It's pretty good for a first game!

Some improvements would be: * Sounds effect and music * add spin to some of the meteors and use different textures * moving felt slow, and the shooting felt very slow. A faster pace over all might be nice.

I hope you have fun making more games! (* ̄▽ ̄)b

@emberushi Thank you for your feedback! I will try to add those improvements, upgrade the game and practice more 。◕ ‿ ◕。

nice small game, could do with some music and sound effects, movement felt a little slugish, maybe bigger asteroids could give more points and/or split into smaller ones, or there could be powerups that make you shoot more bullets or a laser or something, plenty of places you can take the game further!

Well done on not only your first game, but making it for a game jam. I think increasing the speed of the game overall would help the pace. Great work, keep it up!

Lots of respect for making your first game in Unity in 48 hours, can't have been easy! The movement of the ship feels nice and I like how the shots accelerate too. I think the best thing to add would be some sound effects to give everything a bit more impact. :)

jk5000 2022-04-04 17:38

This is absolutely a okay first game, and I had fun playing it.

You guys are too nice, i can't (╥﹏╥)Thank you for such positive feedback, it gives me motivation to learn more. I will practice hard for next Ludum Dare! (●´ω`●)

First game and first game on Unity!

See you at the next time !

Good first game.

Something to consider, if there is no reason to not be shooting, just put the player's character on auto fire (there was no reason to not be holding down the space bar, so it was a non-choice).

doomshmuck 2022-04-05 13:57

Yeah, this is definitely solid for a first game (and even like a 5th game, to be honest). Sound effects would definitely help. I did notice a strange like acceleration thing going on with the lasers... are you using addForce or something on the lasers to move them? That can cause that effect and feels a bit awkward for a laser. I would recommend using either just the standard move function, or setting the velocity (if you are using the unity physics to do the movement).

Since you have this submitted as a compo game, remember to post a link to your source code.

First experience in developing a standard game in 48 hours though. At a certain point, from a slow fall of meteorites, they begin to fall quickly, because of which, basically, there will always be a certain number of points, slightly variable.

rinko 2022-04-05 21:45

@doomshmuck thanks for feedback ^^ I made lasers moving by changing gravity to minus value so maybe that's the reason. Source code is available to download under game on itch.io

Very good for your first game!

nice and fun game, great stuff!

nick-rafalski 2022-04-07 01:29

Very nice for a first game! I like the art and the particle effects :)

rinko 2022-04-07 18:37

@supersonic and @nick-rafalski thank you so much for the feedback •ᴥ• particle effects saved me bc i don't know how to do animations yet (∩▂∩)

The art style is nice as well, as laser shoots look good and movement feels nice, too. Good job with your first game!

Here are few suggestions: - As pointed out. Music and sound effect would add a lot to the game. - Same goes for different types of weapons (laser bean, rockets, etc.). - Pretty common mechanic is asteroids splitting into smaller ones, when destroyed. - Sine the most important thing in games like this are happening vertically, it is common to have taller that wider screen. - Always add, short description of your game: what it is about, what tools you used. And add a screenshot of your game. This adds a lot to the presentation of your game LD page.

Of course, you need time to implement all of this :)

I love what is happening to the screen when you get to around 20-30 points :)

@zimny11 thank you for a constructive comment, those are great suggestions and I will definitely try to implement them next time i will be making game! (◠ω◠✿)

75 was the best score I could get before the big crunch. I was trying to use the momentum of the ship and the accelerating bullets to my advantage to shoot down as many asteroids as possible. If only the ship wasn't as wide, maybe I could drill a tunnel through the endless wall of rocks and become a space miner.

matthewrobo 2022-04-21 16:54

I think having inertia in a shoot-em-up styled game is always a bit wonky, since you feel like you don't really have control over movement.

That being said, your first game was a compo entry? That's a herculean task.

Good job.

jamtempisto 2022-04-21 18:25

The graphics are so pretty!

I agree with the suggestion that, for variety, you could make the big boulders give more points.

I don't think that making the big boulders break up in smaller ones would be a good idea for this game, since shooting them would yield even more things to avoid, penalizing the player for destroying them.

> I made lasers moving by changing gravity to minus value so maybe that’s the reason.

heh nice job working within your abilities and actually completing a game in 48h

thecritterscove 2022-04-21 18:43

It's a simple game, but it plays smooth. The controls are easy for this game, but remember in the future to write it out somewhere. Just to note, I think it's hilarious that the boulders are shoving each other at the end like bumper cars. Anyways, nice job for compo and first time!
