nice play on the theme, engaging mechanics, interesting to see how this concept can be evolved
would prefer more instructions, but as soon as I understood the gameplay, everything went very smoothly
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD54 → Canals

I JUST updated it with some tutorials! 30 minutes before the deadline
Great game! I particularly enjoy the subject matter, and I'm sure many a city planner would love the ability to just... dig canals everywhere to isolate traffic. I would have loved a way to influence the movement of the cars, as it is, it kind of becomes a waiting game... And waiting is not particularly fun. :) All in all though, a fun and unique idea that is well-executed. Great job! :tada:
Nice game, good fit with the theme and interesting mechanics. Was wondering if water counts towards clean area, feels like you just drown the place.
I really like jezzball so this game was just perfect for me. I few tweaks to how the dragging works (sometimes it felt like the mousedrag didn't work) and some polished graphics and this would be great!
Cool - reminds me of that old game "Qix" which I loved playing. A bit of a twist here with the theme being about cars in a city. Cutting up the area into smaller and smaller regions works really well. Fun!
It reminded me - and I have to say that this is a positive! - of using the mouse to drag boxes on an empty desktop, but this time with purpose!
That was pretty fun! I had one time where two lines fired at the same time in different directions. it was after i had changed my mind on where i wanted to put the canal. Good game!
I'm not sure if I don't understand the clear percent or if there was a bug, but I split an area with multiple cars, so there was no area turned green, but the percent clear still went up.
@lou-bagel Oh wow, that is not supposed to happen! I will take a look if I can reproduce it.
I like the idea, it's a different take on the classic snake and spider games in the 90ies. I even considered something like this myself for a while. There are some bugs obviously, but with better graphics and some sound I would like a post-jam release of this.
Fun little game! Good job!
(You're Windows download link seems to have expired)
I've been enjoying seeing all these level manipulation games, this was one of the better ones I've seen. An interesting concept and a good message, stay green! :D
Nice little game, I really like the idea and execution. Only missing a bit of sound, otherwise, gg for a compo entry.
I enjoyed the game! Mathches the theme very well and it's easy to play, but needs to patience to succeed. Good job for a Compo game!
@leparlon oh I played again and figured it out! I think it is the tiles that are used to create the canals!
I notice it goes up by just a couple of percent points even when not clearing area. When I played the first time, I must have been just a percent or two below the goal on the 2nd level. Then I split an area but cars were on both, so I thought, oh that was pointless - but then the YOU WIN popped up and I was confused, haha.
It is a nice game mechanic!
Fellow proc-gen brethren! I also spent way too much time fighting with invisible algorithms this LD, and my visual product paid the price, so I recognize and appreciate your behind the scenes work! The gameplay works great, and the theme is a slam dunk. Nice job!
I liked this it reminded me of jezzball wow what good times. Great job though.
Very fun and addicting game, I really liked it. Simple and actually challenging to find the perfect moment to place the canals, and so satisfying to clear a gigantic place all at once. Congrats on the entry!
I like this radical ecologist take on the theme! Could be a good basis for a puzzle game. GG
Those are some really unique mechanics! Neat idea and an admirable goal :smile_cat:. Shame you ran out of time for sounds and additional juice, but what is there works well. With one exception - the game tends to freeze between levels from time to time and never unfreeze (Windows 10, Firefox 118.02), leaving me looking at "area cleared" forever.

Your post-jam is a definite improvement on the original submission. Good going!
On a sidenote, I love that you can actually sink some cars without failing your quest :grinning: Quite amusing when you think about it.
Nice game, well done! I enjoyed playing it :)
I also like the improvements of the graphics in the Post Compo version. I think the act of sinking a car (and hence losing a life) could be made more visual. Maybe you can show the car still for a bit (shrinking) when the water is already there, and highlighting/enlarging the number of lives for a bit.
I have played both the standard and enhanced versions of the game, noticing aspects like parks and green zones, which now bring everything into perspective! Nevertheless, I imagine the challenge — indeed, it's difficult — of developing the car AI, creating the maps, and contemplating all potential possibilities is tremendous, especially achieving this in 48 hours! I must also extend my gratitude for producing a post-compo version; the noticeable improvement significantly enhances the game experience for individuals like me. Excellent game!
A simple concept but pretty original. I think some visual feedback from losing lives would be good since at first I tried drowning a car and it seemed like there was no consequence but later I noticed the lives lost. I completed one of the 90% levels and failed on the next 90% level.
Nice game, good work!
Great game. It's a classic game type about constantly limiting the size of the area. It's a very solid game type and you did a great job.
