LD44 — Your life is currency

Fun, simple, rustic, savory. The timing might have been a bit too tight. I often got hit even when my character was out of the enemy's range, so there's possibly a weird inconsistency between player's I-frames and the enemy's hit timing. Still, a visually pleasing game with a catchy tune. Too bad I'm not good at rhythm games.

A fun little experience, albeit a bit too easy for my tastes. I saved my stamina until that big purple monkey face saved me and it never had the chance to catch me. The path between the Keeper (was that its name?) and the soul spire was too short for a good chase sequence, and the spookster tend to be always in the opposite direction with its back facing me.

As constructive criticism I'd recommend making the spooky thing harder to see before it has seen you (no glowing lights until it's go time) and then just make it faster. Almost the same speed as a running player would make it very intense.

All in all, I got a good chuckle from it and hope to see your work in the next Jam.

(And only now I realize that it has a difficulty setting. Maybe put it in the startup menu next time?)

Balancing difficulty is a pain. I balanced my game by making it ridiculously hard at first and then toning everything down slightly over and over again until I just barely managed to beat it. That's how you can make your game really intense.

A fellow "kill things with big guns" developer! Have a gander at my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/breaker

I'll be sure to play and review your game today as well!

What a fun little game. It did all the important things just right and everything felt really snappy as they should. Movement had no jank to it, killing things was pure skill and no gimmicks, effects didn't clutter the screen. The visuals were a bit lackluster, but after sinking a good 30 minutes into this game I didn't even mind anymore. I was too busy focusing on disapatching those red rice cubes. Audio did what it did and delivered that punchy crunch as it should. Nothing too great, but nothing to complain about either.

All in all, I'm having a difficult time deciding if this game is 3,5 or 4 stars. If it had a more unique look to it (without overdoing it), I'd give it a solid 4 or even more.

Visually a really solid game, and the demon introductions/selection screen were very well written. The combat itself didn't click for me that much. It kinda lacked that bang and boom and feel of actually shooting at monsters. I couldn't hear half of the sounds through the music, and it felt like I was firing bean bags rather than bullets. Just constructive criticism, not hate. This game could use boomier sounds, bigger effects and some meaty screen shake. Still a pretty good game. Can't expect perfection from jam games after all!
