LD42 — Running out of space

Snake Reduction by ReiMari 2018-08-13T07:19:20Z

@endurion Yeah, those two things made me not even want to submit the game. I hope (or, make sure) I'll have something more interesting next LD :)

Snake Reduction by ReiMari 2018-08-13T14:59:44Z

@starven The highest score I've managed is around that as well. I wanted to add a leaderboard but writing out the privacy statement to comply with the GDPR would have pushed me into the jam :P

Snake Reduction by ReiMari 2018-08-14T20:14:20Z

@fenderbate I've tried doing that a couple of times but for a jam/compo I don't really like working on (effectively) someone else's game or idea.

I do realize what I ended up with probably isn't the most original thing (which is why I wasn't happy with the result). But I did come up with an extra twist on this game a couple of hours ago which I will try to build into a more complete game outside of Ludum Dare!

Snake Reduction by ReiMari 2018-08-17T13:17:47Z

@dragongino I'm already working on a new version that has an extra twist that makes it even more challenging and different compared to this version ;)

Into Asteroid Belt by Jakub Kazimierski 2018-08-14T20:08:11Z

Finally all of the time spent playing Touhou is paying off :D Fun game with good graphics!

42_GetOut by elZach 2018-08-13T09:05:27Z

Pretty good gameplay, but the screaming doors were just amazing.

Swirling Infestation by Coda Highland 2018-08-14T05:20:05Z

@coda-highland The reason the 64 bit version doesn't work is because the name of the executable needs to match the name of the data folder. Renaming the data folder in the 64 bit version to "SwirlingInfestation-Win64_Data" fixes the issue and allows the game to run.

Space Depot by Laien Pathfinder 2018-08-13T09:18:06Z

I like the idea, but it seems a bit random whether you get hit by something or collect it. In most cases I flew straight at a piece of debris with the front of the ship, but still got a game over.

Bee-rilliant Farm by Noxbuds 2018-08-17T13:16:10Z

I played it much longer than I thought I would. I beeleive that was due to the good pacing and balance which constantly kept me buzzy. The only thing the game is missing is beeing able to save (or at least continue after closing it).

Evolucity - Build as high as you can! by Mazzletov 2018-08-13T06:58:45Z

Already liked it the moment I saw the thumbnail, and the actual game didn't disappoint. The only thing I didn't like was where the mouse is vs where a building is actually placed.

Spider tank by Blight Radiance 2018-08-14T19:41:18Z

I'm normally not a fan of strategy games, but this one was quite enjoyable! The mechanics were easy to understand but there's definitely a good amount of challenge.

Corrupt Space by jmswrnr 2018-08-15T06:36:15Z

Great graphics and atmosphere! Interesting take on the theme as well. I just wish it was longer.

A blob with a destination - LD42 by Dries Vuylsteke 2018-08-13T09:11:17Z

Good variety of mechanics, but I think the movement is a bit too floaty.

Zero Grace Megadrive by triplefox 2018-08-13T07:46:49Z

Awesome game! Somehow the jumping made me play it in a more risky way than normal Tron kind of games.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Re:Call by Porcus_Pie 2018-12-09T08:19:08Z

Tight controls, a fitting aesthetic, and good levels. I'd just like to have had some more levels that use the throwing mechanic. Overall a really good game.

Noah's Balloon by nettleflap 2018-12-05T17:48:58Z

The difficulty really ramps up quickly, I can't make it past the 3rd level. Besides that it's a really nice game with an interesting take on the theme.

The Omicron Fleet by cerno-b 2018-12-04T10:34:50Z

I'm absolutely terrible at all games involving any kind of strategy so I couldn't make it past the point where there were two ships, but I was having a lot of fun up to that point! Awesome game!

Sidegrade by ReiMari 2018-12-03T22:47:36Z

@owlycode Wow, I was not expecting that to be possible. I sure didn't manage that during any of my test runs, and after those tests I ended up doubling the final wave enemies :| Boss fights are definately something I'd like to have put in the game. Maybe in a future version.

@noah-barsky I did make it with mobile in mind. Maybe I'll re-do this game and make a proper version :)

Sidegrade by ReiMari 2018-12-04T19:12:31Z

@smurf The game shuts down when you hit 0% hull health. I had to sacrifice the game-over screen to make sure I could submit a stable game.

Sidegrade by ReiMari 2018-12-05T23:36:00Z

@xjcl Good point, I'll make sure that strategy won't work in the future version. Though score and ranking should also take care of that problem.

Uhrilammas by LoHii 2018-12-08T18:00:59Z

I liked the gameplay and character art. It's just missing a tutorial and audio (though after a while I just pretended the player character is deaf, so that kind of worked too).

Don't Panic by doomshmuck 2018-12-07T16:18:26Z

This game really makes you stop and think about the tough questions in life; such as how difficult life must be for a whale that's flying in space. Whose only means of delaying it's inevitable demise is to fling cows (much larger than itself) at a seemingly never-ending wave of enemies.

In all seriousness though I like the game, but the fast scrolling background was pretty uncomfortable on the eyes. It also made the enemies and their bullets difficult to see.

Edit: Also, slightly disappointed I couldn't fling cans of deodorant at the enemy instead of cows :)

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-04T10:41:47Z

The links don't work for me. Maybe the visibility of the game's itch page is still set to draft?

Pirates may Cry by themarioga 2018-12-04T11:45:00Z

I found it isn't always clear what the effect of each choice is which turns it into a bit of a guessing game. I also encountered an index out of bounds error when the timer ran out on "The crew finds a floating treasure" causing the game to crash.

Overall still a decent game, the graphics look pretty nice.

SpaceCrafter by shrekshao 2018-12-07T12:16:54Z

The customization is really nice and the graphics are good, but I didn't really enjoy the battles because they were a bit easy and I think the controls are a bit awkward.

It was fun to rearrange the components so I could put as many of them on there as possible, and the controls during customization were pretty intuitive. The mouse was just a *bit* sensitive :P

With more polish this could be a really good game!

Suzanne Awakens by Sunzed 2018-12-08T17:44:06Z

I like the graphics and the idea of becoming less powerful, but I think having the character lose power and increasing the difficulty in every level can only work if there is more skill and depth to the combat mechanics; so the player can make up for the loss in character power with their own skill. And as it is in this game, the combat just isn't deep enough for that to be the case.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it's hard to understand some of the icons when picking something to sacrifice. Some sort of tooltip on mouseover would have been nice.

Fruit Blast by Bibicio 2018-12-05T18:10:22Z

Nice game, I just wish it was longer :D Maybe some obstacles to dodge would have made the game even better.

Birds in Space by PopDaddyGames 2018-12-05T07:54:18Z

Controls were solid and the graphics are nice. It just wasn't clear to me what the bird stations are. I assumed it was the cages but nothing happened when I flew through one, so I ended up finishing the game with a whole bunch of un-spent seeds. Overall a relaxing and enjoyable game.

The Wilds by mparl 2018-12-04T22:22:23Z

I don't want to be *that* guy but on the game's page you mentioned you added an enemy today. You can keep working on the game after the jam/compo, but you should at least have a compo version (without that new enemy) available to play as well so people can judge the game on that version.

In [the rules](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) it says: "You **can’t** add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline." ^ that applies to both the jam and the compo.

The Tribute by Neon Glass 2018-12-04T12:09:11Z

At the start of the game I wasn't sure how the gameplay would remain interesting for more than a couple of levels... 20 minutes later and I'm still playing it. There's a really good flow to this game.

Blood Balance by t1a2z 2018-12-05T08:17:50Z

Awesome game! It took me a couple of attempts to finish the game but I'm glad I did. The difficulty felt just right. I did find a spot in the final area where the pathfinding would get a bit weird around one of the houses so that fight was a bit easier than intended. I didn't end up using the melee attack because the range of it is so short while the enemies are fast and many. Maybe a slightly longer range melee attack with a bigger cooldown would have been more appropriate for this game.

Downgradius by xjcl 2018-12-05T21:57:04Z

Just curious, but is there a reason why you didn't make an executable that can be run without first downloading GMS? I doubt there's going to be many people who want to go through all of that just to run the game.

Downgradius by xjcl 2018-12-05T23:22:15Z

Oh, I thought that was free. Then again, last time I used GM wa many years ago. Since our games are so similar I'll still play and rate your game tomorrow :D

Downgradius by xjcl 2018-12-06T12:14:57Z

No matter how many times I try I can't make it past the first level. I always die at the bit where there's things aiming at you on the walls combined with the red cubes because I lose my shield at the bit with the wall things before that :( I think a slightly smaller hitbox would make it a lot more doable.

As far as I *can* play it it's a pretty nice game!

KingGame by staxx6 2018-12-05T14:06:25Z

Interesting game, but it needs more levels. I also didn't realize you can jump with space as it isn't mentioned in the controls. That made me take quite some time on the gap with spikes.
