LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Saneedling by commanderstitch 2015-12-17T05:06:00

I couldn't figure out what the guidelines for seed planting were. But... it seemed to at least work, as far as the animation cycle and stuff was concerned. Some in-game guidance would be good, for the first seed or two.

Resonance by Starspell 2015-12-17T05:11:00

I really enjoyed this one. It very much reminded me of a very old title for the Apple called Light On Target.

Ladder Grow by One Seed Fruit 2015-12-14T05:24:00

Not bad, but it seemed more like just an endurance challenge than anything. Also, I would have made the sounds flow better, instead of cutting off the way they do.

Zen Roots by nopogo 2015-12-15T14:41:00

Loved it. Very calming and zen. My only suggestion really would be to make the rocks a bit easier to see. Other than that, BRAVO.

Choppy Crop by komjaur 2015-12-15T14:47:00

Impressive entry. As Ariake81 said, very good use of timers to expand your options, and allow you to use both themes.

Family Board Game Night: The Board Game by monika 2015-12-15T05:19:00

Impressed that you made a board game, but I'm not going to have anyone or any time to really try it out with. Kudos though!

Pizza Panic by Didi 2015-12-15T04:55:00

Amusing and fun little title. The controls are a little touchy for me, but it definitely fits the theme very well. Good job. :)

The Regrowth of Layeon by Ampera 2015-12-15T19:36:00

Interesting start, but needs a lot of work still. Text adventures are challenging to do right, because of the command parsing needed. Good luck, and keep working on it!

retrovirus by razieliyo 2015-12-15T04:39:00

I'm impressed! You even got documentation in there. That's one thing I needed in my game. Also, fun to play, and easy to understand. Good job!

Squirrel Forest by Luminar 2015-12-15T19:27:00

Not a bad start, but it really needs more development.

Colony XG-29 by juxipolo 2015-12-17T05:01:00

I had to force myself to stop playing it, so that I could rate it. :)

2108 M81 - Part I - by Kazura 2015-12-15T14:36:00

Not bad at all. I ran into several places where I got stuck in the terrain, but given what you were doing, that's not too surprising.

Just a fatty cat by logon13 2015-12-16T01:59:00

First, thanks for rating my game. I enjoyed yours as well, and it was better implemented than many others I've tried that used the same sort of movement mechanic. Good job!

Grunnist by Alpenter 2015-12-15T15:00:00

Good job, especially given the time you had to work in. Some BG music would have helped it a lot, but the graphics and controls were good.

Can't Jump by x92rwzb 2015-12-15T23:47:00

Interesting take on a platformer. Some sound would really help it, even if it's suble.

Rollin Lemmin by PixelStuff 2015-12-15T23:33:00

I'm unable to get past the initial segment, but I think that's because I'm misunderstanding game mechanics. It's still well done, and has some potential.

MusiChaos by SigmanZero 2015-12-15T23:50:00

Wow. That's well named. Very chaotic. I'm REALLY bad at keeping track of that sort of thing, but it's very well done, and I'm impressed.

FLOW by Romixal 2015-12-15T23:41:00

Very interesting zen experience! Loved the sound design.

Flowers no Lemmy by MrTroy 2015-12-15T04:41:00

Not bad, although I didn't really enjoy it much.

Centi-Snake by utoxin 2015-12-15T05:05:00

Maartene: You just need to eat more. As you move, you lose 1 hp per turn, and the initial fruit only restores 10 hp.

Centi-Snake by utoxin 2015-12-16T01:10:00

Thank you everyone for the amazing feedback. A few comments:

Yes, it starts a little slow, and without the help screen I didn't get time to add, it's hard to understand exactly what's going on with food / health / score. That will be improved!

And yes, the sound is... yeah. It needs work. I was working with Bfxr, and did the best I could in the short time I had. I want to add some quiet music eventually, and improve the sfx a lot. I also want to polish up the graphics a bit more, and add some new challenges.

Mecha Planeta by Zeriver 2015-12-15T15:05:00

Not bad! Definitely a good original idea that fit the themes well. Not sure if the lag in input was intended (a cooldown, maybe?) but it took a bit of adjustment.

Billy the Winter Pinocchio Elephant by BulletsArePeopleToo 2015-12-15T04:36:00

Quite a good entry, although very difficulty in parts for me. (That's not a negative... just a reflection on my platforming abilities.) The controls could maybe use a little tightening, but it's still a good start.

Blobitronica by crucknuk 2015-12-15T05:22:00

You got nearly a perfect score from me. Lots of fun, and VERY polished. Good job!

Crystal Quest by Belug 2015-12-15T14:36:00

No linux box to try it on. Sorry!

Tap Root by mattlevonian 2015-12-15T04:44:00

Sorry, don't have anyone to try this with. Looks interesting though.

Tech Rider by MrJoshuaMcLean 2015-12-16T02:10:00

Definitely a fun little racer, as others have said. Iron out the bugs, and tighten up the controls a bit, and you've got a good game. My biggest suggestion would be maybe add some hint as to which way the track is going to go? You can see so little of it that it's really easy to fall off.

Ball Street Journal by modenv 2015-12-15T19:33:00

Not bad, but it seems like if you don't get ahead early there's no way to recover. You also need to fix the web client.

PlantBoy by siObyte 2015-12-14T05:13:00

Sorry, can't run it (no emulator or GB), but it sounds really neat.

Micros by gkxd 2015-12-14T05:41:00

Very impressive! The controls are a bit rough, and I saw a bit of visual stuttering. But overall, good graphics and sound, and it certainly fit the theme.

Nature's Will by 4B 2015-12-15T05:12:00

Seems to be well made, but the controls are extremely annoying to use, and feel kind of tacked on. I would have enjoyed it much more if you had left the Two Button Control theme off of this game.

EXPURGET by xodene 2015-12-16T02:04:00

Thanks for the review on my game.

Your game is an interesting start, but I had a lot of issues with enemies getting stuck on me and having a hard time destroying them. Work on improving that, and you might have a fun little game.

Total Recoil by MAB 2015-12-15T14:56:00

5 star from me. Clever use of mouse position and one button for your controls! GREAT job on the sounds and graphics as well.

Bankk! Be a Better Bank by ptkfs 2015-12-14T05:32:00

I rather enjoyed this, actually. Well done on the audio and the theme fit. It might be good to make it a little more obvious how to proceed to the next month. It took me a little long to figure out how to proceed to the next month.

But the biggest thing I can say is that I realized I needed to stop playing it, so I could review it.

Abyssal Zone by Leddev 2015-12-15T05:13:00

Don't have a mac to test it on right now. Sorry!

Blob Schmlob (BS) by SpecialChef 2015-12-15T05:18:00

Definitely fits the themes, and is a solidly made game. I would have liked a bit more sound, and it's very challenging gameplay for me, so I didn't have as much fun.

Jeffrey's Adventure by CaptainRed_ 2015-12-15T04:28:00

I enjoyed this, although it's a very hard platformer, which is something I'm not really good at. It would improve a lot with sound and bugfixing.

Kawaiiju by TeamKawaiiju 2015-12-15T05:01:00

I absolutely loved this. It took me a second to catch onto what was going on, but as soon as I did, I was cackling with glee as I ate everything I could. I'm an old-time Katamari fan, and this definitely reminded me of that. BRAVO.

Parallax by triello 2015-12-15T14:52:00

Good job on the presentation of the game. Great graphics and sound, and reasonably good controls (although they feel slow on the left-right controls). I didn't get any sense of the theme, but it's good.

PlatyPad by euske 2018-04-24T12:54:16Z

LOL. This is so great. Good job. Certainly one of the more unique things I've seen this jam. :)

CardRacer by Smooth 2018-04-24T02:18:38Z

The download links are dead.

Falling Rooms by ThePelranthean 2018-04-24T00:56:40Z

Very interesting little game. Certainly unique.

TDshooter by Genpaku 2018-04-24T12:51:22Z

Not a bad start for a game. As others have said and you agreed with, it does need some balancing, some more weapons, and maybe some way of placing barriers. Maybe destructible walls, so the players can make new routes if they find a weak area in the gun coverage?

Deck Cutters: Hearth of the Cards by Steve Sparkes 2018-04-26T03:26:03Z

Very enjoyable! I'd love to see this idea developed further. More levels, more cards and monsters. MORE.

TIMBER by ponker 2018-04-24T19:14:50Z

This is a lot of fun, and I think it should be polished up and developed some more. The controls seem a little bit janky, but the basic concept is solid.

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T01:08:28Z

@Angelbait Thanks for the comment! I plan to polish it up more later. :) It'll end up on itch.io with my previous game eventually.

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T01:27:40Z

@Smooth As explained in the description, that was music I had added that I then pulled back out because of compo rules. I should probably throw up a version without that credit. I was just lazy about cleaning up the title screen.

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T01:39:19Z

v1.2-compo is being uploaded now. It removes the credits for the music that isn't in the game. :)

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T02:07:26Z

@ThePelranthean Thanks! I wish I could take credit for the keybinding menu. :) That's an asset called Rewired. Very very useful.

And I certainly plan to be doing more work on this game. I quite enjoyed working on it, and people seem to like it. I'll probably keep the 'prototype' feel of the graphics too. They just feel Right.

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-24T16:37:06Z

It's by design... but it's certainly open for change after judging is over. :) This game will be getting a post-LD update cycle, because I quite enjoy it, and it seems like other people do too. :)

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-25T01:53:45Z

Thanks, @NateTheGreat. I'd love to have done more, but I only really had time to do Compo. I'll be coming back to this later, but it'll be a month or so before I have the time... we have to move in the next month. *flails*

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-26T13:31:08Z

@C1FR1 Thanks! Odd that the background started having issues. I haven't seen that issue. But yes, camera does start having some jumpy movement near the edges of your movement range, and as you get faster. That's on my list of things to try and fix.

Twin Stick Runner by utoxin 2018-04-26T18:52:00Z

@sh1rogane Thanks! I'm going to try and fix the camera, for sure. I hand-rolled the loose-follow script during the compo, and it's definitely not perfect.

Age of Spires IV (Text/Console + RTS) by David Greene 2018-04-24T12:42:32Z

Very well done CLI interface! I'm loving how many different CLI games came up this time. One suggestion, since I was silly my first time, is to have a help window that you can pop back up somehow, with an indicator on screen of what that key is.

Investment platforms by tripu 2018-04-24T12:56:43Z

Heh. Amusing. I wasn't real clear what was going on sometimes with the 'oof' sounds my guy was making on normal platforms. But it certainly is an interesting take on the theme.
