Interesting concept this reminds me of Lost kingdom.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD41 → Deck Cutters: Hearth of the Cards

Really nice! If you could possibly make the download size smaller, it would help a lot of people with bad internet :) Love the stones and cards. Looks very good! Well done!
@RAFFE Ooh, that's a good point. I'll try and cut it down and provide it as a secondary download on the itch.io page. Thanks!
@RAFFE I've added a slim-build to the itch.io page. I've added a disclaimer to the top that it was added after submission, and if internet speed isn't a problem then to download the original. :)
I really enjoyed this game. Audio was on point! Also, as an avid summoner in TCG's I appreciate the summons.
I loved the concept and the execution of this idea, the music was really good too! One suggestion would be to have cards that are applied to yourself either be a different color or just use them up automatically. I can't even count the number of times I threw a card across the map only to realize, "right, now I have to go pick that up". lol
@Sky Thanks for the feedback! That different coloured card-backs is a great idea. I intentionally made the player have to pick up boost cards that they've played to reinforce the idea that this is a card-game player that's been thrust onto the board with their cards. None of the cards directly affect the player without being played first. Reusing some of the same images for boost cards and monster cards definitely doesn't help with flinging away useful cards!
@Steve-Sparkes Nice !
I love the voxel looking art. It's really nice and simple. The mechanics are easy enough but make for really interesting gameplay. Good work!
Really enjoyable game! Really like the aesthetic and the audio suites it really well.
As for critique I would say game balance wise, the terror tank card trumps all (:D) and maybe have a card have a effect or something when it is waiting to be picked up to make it easier to tell which you need to go pick up and which to leave while running away from the bombs with legs.
Overall really fun game!
@InventorOfStuff Thanks for the feedback! I really wish I'd named the enemy "Bomb with Legs" now, hahaha.
yugioh haha
444 MB is truly a lot for such a small game, but I guess UnrealEngine has an inherited overhead size. The game itself runs smoothly and is enjoyable.
This is a pretty interesting concept. I like the idea of adding a real time element to a card game, having to manage positioning while playing my cards. I also really like the animation of throwing my card to the ground and a monster popping out of it. I think that the controls could be greatly improved by binding card selection to the scroll wheal instead of Q and E so I wouldn't have to take my hand off of WASD. My other criticism would be that the arena was a bit barren, with little in the way of interesting obstacles or terrain. I just sorta went back and forth throwing down cards until I died. Still, I really enjoyed the premise and there's definitely something here to expand upon. Nice work!
I really like it! The grass was a bit out of place, but other than that good job!
@superpokeunicorn the scroll wheel idea is brilliant, thanks! @Adam-Wallberg you both mentioned the look of the arena, I'd really like to focus on making a more interesting environment if I was to work on this further. I may even toy with making an obstacle course that you have to fight your way through. @vilix64 yeah, the file size was waaaay too big when I first uploaded it. The slimmed down build is available for download but it still takes up a bunch of space. You're right about the overhead, I guess I just need to add a bunch of cards to make the files size worth it haha.
Great game. The way the cards work reminded me of the Duellists of the Roses YuGiOh game from on the ps2.
This very impressive for a compo game! I love the art style, but I feel like the lighting hinders the voxel look at a distance. Great job!
This game was an absolute blast! The focus on evasion rather than attacking directly is what I think held it all together, since you could spend more time focusing on your cards, rather than clicking on enemies. I did encounter some enemies spawning outside the arena or in places my minions couldn't get to, but bugs are to be expected given the short time frame. You did a great job with this one!
@RockhopperGames There are a few specific bugs that I want to address post-competition in a few weeks. And the moths escaping the arena is one of them! There's just the tiniest gap in the ceiling that the moths can do a collision test through, and then they just up and leave the arena. It's game breaking and I look forward to fixing it! Thanks for bug testing my game haha!
Very enjoyable! I'd love to see this idea developed further. More levels, more cards and monsters. MORE.
Awesome concept, and good execution. I love the variety of cards and the ability to build a deck while you're progressing through the levels. I made it to level 8, but just got overwhelmed by enemies that killed all my units before they could attack. I guess training dummies and speed boost may not have been the optimal deck... I started over and tried building an explosives-based deck, which was a lot of fun until a moth got stuck in a wall and I couldn't kill it (even the mines and the nuclear rat refused to explode next to it). The tank cards were also very good.
I liked the voxel art style, and didn't mind the lighting that some of the other comments pointed out. I did have trouble seeing my own summons apart from the enemies. I liked the level layout, but I think a bit more scenery would have been nice. I also wish that there was a bit more variety between each wave. Maybe change the sky and lighting colors between each wave, or give each wave a funny name.
Very cool idea! Well executed. I like the artwork and the music was spot on. Good job. It was a little difficult to see the difference between enemies and own summons, but overall great entry!
I really liked the voxel graphics. There was quite the mismatch with the grass ground. The gameplay was solid and fun and the music was good. All in all this is a good game. (Next time please add a switch to disable motion blur)
Very Combination of genres!
Interesting combination! I found it mostly confusing... I spent a while building my first deck, and then died before I could figure out how to play a card (thought I just had to press the number based on the instructions). Next game I made it a few rounds, but spent all of my time just running, had no idea which creatures were mine and which were enemies so just ran, ran, ran. Looked nice, and sound a music fit quite well.
Reminds me of an old game from my childhood, I can't remember the name. This looks great, would love to see it improved on.
