Awesome Game! I really love the concept!

micahcowan 2017-04-24 08:29

Excellent first-ever game! Was fun, and very challenging once you reach the level where "which pixel to get" keeps shifting. :)

takusan 2017-04-25 23:50

Well if this your first game you're off to a good start, mate. Good decision to keep it simple, good mechanics, plays well - I can't really say anything that is not positive.

Well done! Saving this for vote.

euske 2017-04-28 14:38

Good for a first game! Interesting mechanics. I like its simplicity.

tobico 2017-04-29 12:26

Nice concept! I like that the colors all have unique shapes for accessibility. I found the level where you need to match the target shape too hard for me, I think it could benefit from adding some kind of warning indicator and sound just before the target changes.

damnscout 2017-04-29 15:26

@tobico Thanks for that feedback. I actually considered adding a sound element to the change, but I didn't have time to do it the way I wanted to. Thanks for noticing the unique shapes, too!

takusan 2017-05-01 14:31

I've added my arting in addition to earlier feedback. Cheers!

Hey interesting little game. It took me a little while to realize that I need to get the color based on shape shown. A audio cue when it changes might be useful. I really like the concept and it proved to be a challenge to get all three colors later on. Great job and welcome to the Ludum Community.

schizoid2k 2017-05-02 14:31

Congrats... this is a great first entry. Simple design, simple graphics, but a fun and challenging game. It took me a while to understand that grabbing other colors would lower the one you are trying to get. Once I understood that, it was a pleasure to play.

Hi! I really enjoyed this original concept, I like these simple sound effects and minimalist graphics do not bother me at all : small world can also suggest small graphics. I think that it's a nice first entry but maybe a little too challenging for me (I can't pass the "imposed form" level).

maldo19 2017-05-02 22:41

This concept was pretty good and the use of shapes and colors to determine what you can actually collect was a nice idea, however it's really difficult and as It is random you can lose all your progress just because the game wanted to. I beat the game but I felt that a lot of my time was lost just because the game threw at me so much objects, as the "pixel" is too big and slow to dodge them all. I feel that you make the "pixel" smaller, a little faster and put the color bars with a transparency alpha on some side it would be much easier and overall a more enjoyable game. Overall a Good game, good job on your first game.

shillingburg 2017-05-03 01:23

really like the idea of this as i have about 5 dead pixels on my monitor. the collection mechanic feels pretty good overall, i like the aspect of balancing the meters. good job on your first game!

damnscout 2017-05-03 02:15

@Maldo19 Hehe, the pixel was actually made smaller from my original concept, and it's also about 20% faster than the shapes and colors. That being said, yes, there situations that can make you feel like you have no way out. While technically it's not true, it's not easily apparent in the game. I've started working on the ability to teleport (which would use up the green color), shield yourself (which would use up the blue energy), and shooting (which would use up the red color). Though, in playing it with the teleport and shield abilities, I feel it takes away from the simplicity. I'll probably end up messing around with the timers of the color spawners.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate knowing where the frustrations in the game are.

damnscout 2017-05-03 02:17

@schizoid2k Yeah, I was hoping the sound would make that apparent, as well as the visual aspect of it. I really wanted the game to teach you without forcing you to go through tutorials. But in hindsight, that first level doesn't make anything obvious.

Congrats on the first game/compo!

Cool idea. I had a hard time getting a hold of the controls... well pushing the arrow keys was easy enough, but understanding what was happening was harder.

challenging

The satisfaction of finding a group of the pixels you need

The despair of a bunch of the wrong pixels coming at you

For a game that is so simple in concept and graphics, this game made me feel it all! You've boiled down to the essence of fun! Congrats on the first game and compo. You did a great job :)

pcmaster 2017-05-04 10:32

Congratz to your first game! I find it funny and easy to play. The graphics are more than adequate! :)

weaverdeveloper 2017-05-04 17:06

You did a great job of not overextending yourself, which is a problem many jammers run into. Simple game, simple mechanics, and simple graphics, all tastefully put together into a solid jam game.

siridakis 2017-05-05 12:08

This looks great. It's simple and well explored in different levels. Doesn't even look like a first game. Congratulations!

bestnickname 2017-05-07 07:57

First off, congratulations on finishing your first game! I really enjoyed the idea behind the game, nice, simple and easy to understand. Good job!

steve 2017-05-08 13:45

A simple game, but well put together with some good presentation. Some stronger call outs on collecting the 'wrong' colour would have helped, as would some graphical FX on the bars when they gain/lose progress. The shape spawning also would have benefited from taking into account the players movement, as I found the easiest way to proceed was to just constantly move in one direction and collect the colours as they drifted by- alternatively, some level boundaries would also have helped as that would force the player to turn around and deal with the horde of enemies behind them. Awesome work for your first game!

sleepystudios 2017-05-10 01:39

You did great for your first game. I would probably make the controls a little more predictable as it seemed like I wasn't really able to control the colors.

chaseplays 2017-05-10 04:50

****What I Liked:****

* That thing that you did with the pixel at the beginning and itch.io's background was really, *really* cool. It honestly looked like there was a dead pixel on my screen. * I liked the gameplay that forced you to keep thinking at all times. The stakes were always too high to take a break, and all of the colors gathering at one place added to that. * The "story" was pretty great, honestly. * Finishing "levels" was satisfying, especially due to the difficulty of the game. * The RGB color swapping system was a good addition to the game. * Using a map without borders was really helpful.

****Minor Nitpicks:****

* The game may have been a *bit* too difficult. It wasn't too bad though.

****Great job and thanks!****

anim-ace 2017-05-10 21:20

I agree with Weaver. Simple game and you did a good job of it. It gets fiendishly hard later, but that's good for some people.

elemental-zeal-game-studios 2017-05-12 01:31

This was a pretty cool concept, and I liked the commentary. Nice job (:

doomshmuck 2017-05-12 02:50

I loved the pacing of the game, the way the mechanics get introduced was very well done. And also the depth of this is much deeper than I expected. It was a lot of fun! Not really sure how this relates to the theme though.

skoggy 2017-05-14 17:19

This was pretty good! Don't really see the connection to the theme. But nice use of colors :P
