Hi,

I had a chance to play your game. Right off the bat I got this dungeon crawler vibe, the graphics and sounds are very retro, and I think thats very positive. Controls are easy to understand and you get the gameplay quite fast.

Whould I would have liked is some sort of small story, along with a objective. I didn't know what I was doing, killing spiders but why? what's the point? If my objective was to kill 3 spiders or something then I had a goal and something to work towards. I got the feeling that I could just walk around and look for spiders forever. So I ended my play through. I saw the gameplay video afterwards and noticed that I missed the boss fight. Which is ashame.

Gratz on finishing the game, I enjoyed it. The music is really nice, and it's impressive you did all this in 48 hours.

Nice start ^^ It was rly hard to understand where i was going most of the time and the red tint made it kinda hard to see stuff, but overall the game gave me a diablo vibe some how :P it was fun!

Nice work finishing a full game with multiple levels and enemy types :)

One thing that could be improved in the future would be the graphics, it was sometimes hard to see what is going on due to the similar colors of the floor/enemies.

Overall really nice job for the given time :)

You did this only in 48 hours, and I think this is a lot of done work :) Graphics should be more balanced, some stuff are not good visible, but overall I think this is good entry :)

I like the musicĀ.

Note that the OpenAl32 dll is not shipped with the project. It would be great if you could upload a new version with it.

The game is really cool, love the music. I miss a little bit more of lore about what your character do on the game.

PS: I admire the fact that you have made the game using your own engine

The feel/vibe of this game is great - very Diablo 1-esque! Certainly an impressive base for two days, and using your own engine? Nice!

The hammer felt a little under-powered and slow vs. the scrolls which took out most things in one shot which I felt strained the pace of combat a little, but overall a good entry!

There are a lot of things I like about your game, although I couldn't really get into it in the end. I also only played the first level because I just couldn't get past the boss (I know, I suck). **Graphics**: Really good for a Compo game. It reminds me of those old PC games that came on Shareware disks. I loved playing them as a kid. Pretty impressive you made all of this in 48h. I wouldn't really want a final game to look like this, but for a game jam it's good. **Audio**: The song is really weird and I don't think it fits at all. It's not really bad, but I don't think it should be in this kind of game. The SFX lack impact, but they are okay. **Gameplay**: Okay, so you lost me here for a few reasons. The game feels very stiff and slow. It's not really satisfying to hit anything - more often I felt like I wasn't even hitting anything. Is it correct that I have to go back two steps, turn around and hit something, go back two steps, hit something, repeat? It felt pretty weird. The boss just obliterated me. I didn't really get close and he just killed me with his bullets. Overall I couldn't quite get into this, but I liked it. Especially since you didn't use one of the 'easy' engines.

I love your music in this! Almost as much as I hate that friggin' hammer, lol. Its just so slow and doesn't feel like it hits very hard.

I had a hard time fitting between the bullets from the boss. Was questioning if I was even supposed to by the time I hit the second boss.

The lighting looked great!

zondarg 2017-05-03 23:00

I must say it took a moment until I really realized what the scrolls and the potions are used for. Then it was quite fun, while it was more fun casting the spells than hitting with that hammer. The rays or bullets at the boss reminded me of some bullet hell shooter. The graphics are quite good for a compo game, this is all modeled and everything in 48hrs? Wow. And the music was great, it set a certain dungeon brawler mood. I liked it! :)

I could not get it to run on the fly, are there external files I'm supposed to use?

I Played this on Livestream Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_6NTcovuI0 And you're welcome to bug me and I'll try and get another run thru it at a later date if you wanna try and help me troubleshoot making it work.

Interesting aesthetic , cool sound design i enjoyed giving it a try.

There is obviously quite a lot of work on this game, impressive ! Graphics are weird but original, it is just sad that I could not make the game fullscreen. Very nice work on the music too, it's great ! The gameplay is not very innovative, but it works. I think everything is too slow and does not feel very dynamic though : the player is slow, the hammering animation takes too much time, and the final monsters feel very repetitive.

Great job !

Good:

- I liked the music - I like to see people write their own engines - Reminds me of lego rock raiders in some fashion

Needs work:

- The graphics were sort of hard to read. The floor had a lot of contrast and looked like aluminum foil - I personally don't care for DirectX but it ran fine - I kept getting chased by birds, they would gang up on me and if I ran away I'd have to turn to face them to use the hammer. I couldn't tell if I was damaging them, and I kept losing health. The potions didn't seem to do anything and I don't know what the item slots were for. - I think it just badly needs a tutorial. There should be a safe start zone where I'm required to use the hammer and an item before I get near any monsters. - The hammer seems to have a dead zone. I see in the youtube video that if you use it properly, it shoves the monster back, but in my case the monsters were right behind me and by turning to face them, I lost any ground I had and was immediately hit. - I'm left-handed so I had to play with my hands crossed to use WASD. Many games map WASD and arrow keys to a virtual D-pad to resolve this.

Awesome! Reminds me of Diablo and God of War. Amazing, what you did in so little time! The music is fantastic, driving. With more story, this would feel less repetitive- though it might just need more enemies!

chaseplays 2017-05-07 20:03

Good job! It was a bit hard to tell what I was doing, but I liked the general idea and atmosphere. The music was great, and the graphics were good, if a bit hard to see. With a bit more explanation, and a bit clearer graphics, this could have been even better than it already was. I had fun playing this! Thanks!

fiery-squirrel 2017-05-08 01:21

I think that the idea was huge for a game jam, I'm impressed you could implement so many things. All the graphics and soundtrack are great too. I have few comments on how I think you could improve the current game. I think collisions have few details, when I hit the enemy sometimes the one who died was me. You could add a clear feedback when attacking and receiving damage, particles, changing colors of the model or adding something clear that lets the player know what is going on, that would improve the whole game experience very much in my opinion. Besides that, great job!
