LD57 — Depths

Quantum Inferno Run by LeReveur 2025-04-12T20:54:47Z

This was pretty fun, I got over 1000xn distance and enjoyed the gameplay. The count-in didn't make sense the first time, but then it became like an iconic little thing for your gamejam to count off that way once I did a few rounds. I couldn't decide why there were blurred versions of my runner in the "distance", I guess like a parallax effect? It's clever that you tied in the theme by making the runner in Hell. My only gripe with balance is that if you get caught on something (like the first jump, always got me) then it's impossible to ever regain distance from the edge of the screen. It would be cool if you slowly creeped back up to a middle baseline after consistently running. Nice work!

This game is super cute, it feels like a story book more than a game. I like the hand drawn graphics, though the animated text in the intro screen was a little hard to read. I didn't quite understand if there were goals as I went into different holes, and I liked the Portal reference!

Sound the Innersea by tukisboolukis 2025-04-11T04:28:07Z

I struggled a bit with the controls and the balance of the gameplay, but was too enamored by your graphics and aesthetic to stop! I love the submarine launching screen you drew to go with the story, and the home screen with the floating moon is a really fun touch. The graphics and low-res text all worked beautifully. Great job on the visuals!

Downstairs by Sn4pi 2025-04-12T21:04:00Z

The visual effects and moodiness were spot on, well done on making it spooky to play.

The Vault by EX3D0 2025-04-13T18:22:02Z

I like the idea and you did a pretty good job pulling off the aesthetic of computers from that era. @paul-maxime also went for an old school computer desktop. If I had more time on my entry, I would've done the same (maybe I'll go back and do it!)

That said, the glitch effect and the CRT bevel/lines made it really hard to read. I had to give up fairly early to avoid a headache. I think it would have been much more visually striking without them, and maybe with less zoom. Neat idea, even if I did find it a bit puzzling to play!

What Lurks Below by dxk2294 2025-04-08T03:32:00Z

Love the aesthetic and moodiness of this one. Great work!

Somnium by Roitchie 2025-04-09T01:18:48Z

The atmosphere and mood of this game is cool, it is kind of eerie and captures that liminal space vibe well. It reminded me a lot of Myst, which is very rare for a game to do. Great work on this one.

Drowning Simulator by Mikeliosus 2025-04-13T18:19:40Z

Very interesting concept that you executed fairly well, considering you were learning the system during the gam jam. What was your approach on using ChatGPT to generate the code? I'd be interested to know your process and how it helped you. Also, I really like that shiny edge on the coin. Nice detail.

Unbound by LCStark 2025-04-12T20:48:42Z

The controls were really hard for me but the moody piano and dark color theming were really enticing and gave the entire game a cohesive vibe. I like how you implemented the low gravity, it was fun to scoot around in. I think the asteroids would have fit in better with unaliased/non-vector edges because everything else has an appealing pixel rough edge aesthetic. Nice work!

Yummy Depths by Neon Glass 2025-04-12T21:18:45Z

The bite sound effect was hilarious. I wasn't sure how the gameplay evolved beyond a basic tractor beam, but it was fun to be a little Cthulhu. Unique spin on the theme!

One More Folder by Paul-Maxime 2025-04-11T04:23:42Z

Wow. Bravo. This is one of my favorite games of the jam. You executed on this idea in a much cooler and engaging way that I managed to tie in folders. I didn't expect it to unravel so naturally into a puzzle, it reminded me of trying to get older generation games and downloads to work on my Windows computer growing up, which sometimes necessitated crawling around in system folders and shuffling DLLs for binaries. Also, the click sound effect was so satisfying, and I liked how you rendered the windows. There's a lot of polish on this, really excellent work and you should be super proud of what you made!

Murder for Dessert by Fupi 2025-04-12T21:07:39Z

Wow, this is an unexpected masterpiece! The characters are so endearing, I felly in love with them forever. Little Billy with his lollipop??? are you kidding me. Your mind is genius. The murdered pineapple was the root of so many good jokes from the other characters, it easy so easy to go along with the absurdity and get to the bottom of it. Great job making a game to get lost in. I genuinely want to know more about this whacky little world. Good selects on the music too!

The Depths of Gitche Gumee by Deruitda 2025-04-12T21:23:01Z

The story on this is fun and jam-packed with features. I was really impressed by how much you managed to not only implement but also draw. Great work getting this together, it's a testament to a lot of skill and effort!! I liked the imagery and the gameplay was intuitive enough to follow along.

Doodley Descent by LarsieVL 2025-04-12T20:57:47Z

I liked the gentle momentum feeling of sliding left and right. That is well-tuned! Your LD embed isn't working but it worked on itchio!

Asteronaut by Leykal 2025-04-12T21:13:55Z

This is gorgeous, wow! It felt like I was playing a game inside of a coloring book. I had a hard time understanding what to do or how the controls worked, but it was fun to bounce around between all your hand-drawn things!

DEEP INTO THE ROOTS by TomasTanhgor 2025-04-12T21:16:11Z

It felt kind of eerie to play, and was a unique spin on the jam theme. I couldn't really figure out how to progress after grabbing the stuff I could see, and the way the roots were drawn felt jarring and didn't match the rest of the game's feeling.

Oh No!! Astral Warp by plidomo 2025-04-08T00:43:52Z

I love your graphics, and the stretching perspective as a play on gravity is really unique!

Depths Business by Anchous Blupblup 2025-04-08T00:45:48Z

Your graphics are so cool, reminded me of Pentiment. Love how the style came out.
