LD57 — Depths

Repossessed by beardywombat 2025-04-08T16:07:39Z

A nice entry, well done!

I absolutely loved the tutorials being laid out on the rugs. What a cool little touch! Plus the humor is pretty spot on, and it had some other great thematic touches like the damaging of the furniture making you lose money. The room which had all the skeletons shooting each other in the back got a good chuckle out of me too.

I would love to have gone further with it than I did but the friendly fire and the slow turn speed made me die pretty consistently just before the filing cabinet room .

Armstrong: Plunge, Protect, Punch by abcdef65g 2025-04-09T11:47:49Z

Some of the sprites in this were among of the best I've seen this game jam - Archibald looks great, and I really like the spinning skulls too. I got around 658m deep after about 10 attempts. The punch down to speed up mechanic was clever - it really helped with the pace of the game. As a bit of constructive feedback, slightly higher obstacle/enemy density might be nice - The first 100m in a few games I played were a bit sparse and only contained platforms. Overall I liked it - Great effort!

ABSEIL by baknik 2025-04-08T15:18:59Z

The gameplay on this one is one of my favorite I've seen so far!

A few sound effects when hitting stuff would be handy, and it wasn't exactly clear why I couldn't place a new anchor. However, trying to traverse sideways when in a bind was a really interesting movement puzzle, and I think the swing being on a timeout was a really clever choice. Bravo!

The Depths of the Bag by Croped 2025-04-23T09:17:48Z

This was cool! Nice movement mechanics, I really like the voice acting and the cover art is amazing. Got to the end after the 5th or 6th attempt once I got the hang of the movement mechanics - although don't knows if I could repeat this feat :D. Could do with the first section on restart being a touch shorter as when you die initially, you do have to spend a few seconds waiting to get back into it. Good effort!

Fusty Fake. Shame in the depths. by Sviborg 2025-04-08T09:59:41Z

This was fun! Really loved the hand drawn element of it. The spinning wheel with the locks was cool too. Got a laugh out of me helping the pigeon out. The music loop was great - all round just dug the vibe!

abyss by A0405u 2025-04-08T22:25:46Z

This is such a cool concept for a game! The art is great, especially the background and the icons on the left side of the screen - it's so moody! The jumping physics felt really nice to me too, the structures generate resources at a nice pace, it's all really thoughtfully done I think.

I also appreciate the hands off approach to showing the player what to do and gently hinting with the text on the right , although there are some things that would be nice like seeing the cost associated with each of the structures, as when I couldn't place a structure I wasn't 100% sure if it was because of the cost or I wasn't meeting a placement restriction.

I definitely want to come back to it though and can see it being a bit of a time sink - it seems like the kind of game where patience is rewarded. Really well done!

Sub-Silence by Pusheeneiro 2025-04-21T16:16:16Z

Liking this one a lot! Very claustrophobic feeling, properly nailing the look, good controls and a great idea. It is really hard though!

Murder for Dessert by Fupi 2025-04-08T08:11:13Z

Brilliant :) I never really play this type of game but it had me interested. I definitely want to come back and finish it - I managed to unlock about 4 of the dialogue options before getting a game over but it definitely felt I wasn't getting further due to my own incompetence :D Amazing story to pull together in 72 hours~

Trepth by Quail Weaver 2025-04-08T17:05:49Z

This was really cool! Absolutely nailed the theme, aesthetics were great. Super interesting concept too!

I started off with the ant and had no idea what to do, but the instruction of 'the termite eats wood' was enough for the next playthrough and I beat the game with the termite, had a blast!

I then tried playing with the grub. Is there a goal in the sky? I went up for quite a long time and didn't find anything there - I just got surrounded by hornets : - )

Really strong effort!

Help! I'm Trapped on The Torment Trapeze. by Yossarian 2025-04-08T08:45:24Z

Wow this is great! So many good mechanics working together - love that you can attach onto the ghosts. Difficult but really well imagined. 5/5!

I'm 14 and this is deep by Enad96 2025-04-08T11:55:57Z

Really liked this - got quite a few laughs out of it. Dig the aesthetic, really like the two tracks in and out of the water.

I think I got two different endings? I didn't find anywhere to use some of the quest items, but I went up to the rig and talked to the boss a couple of times. Solid, quick adventure with a lot of laughs.

DEPTHS OF HUNGER by Poppy Entertainment 2025-04-08T10:57:55Z

This was pretty cool! The spaceship art was nice, as was the character. I really dig the textures used for the background of the body - even though they stretch out, that seems to add to the look of it being inside a murky body, which is really effective.

Really liked the split window approach, with the one side being the controls. Also, the use of lighting was great - it was nice seeing it as a core mechanic for the second bit!

Took me about half an hour to get to the red blood cells bit, at which point it became a bit too hard too get past. This game definitely requires a lot of patience! Great effort

HIM(1).Locked by fosf0 2025-04-08T09:30:24Z

Really like the writing on this - finding hints within video is a cool concept too. Got stuck with three files in the [ L O C K E D ] folder, after getting the binned file. Want to know how it ends!

Scares on Schedule by python-b5 2025-04-08T16:32:32Z

Wow this is really nice! Presentation is definitely 5/5 - great music, art, theme. There were some interesting takes on some classic mini games - particularly the twist with choosing pairs with the card swapping one. I've got a sore hand from mashing on the plates to get them to float though! After a few goes I feel like I got the hang of it and managed 4 scares, and would definitely come back for more. Good job!

Turtle slide by Ansible 2025-04-08T13:19:56Z

Really nice! Massive bonus point for the aesthetics - the double outlined character sprites on the background give it such a nice hand made feel.

The platforming mechanics were tight! I can't say I fully grasped the intricacies of how to use the sides of the map effectively. I made it to the very last jump 4 or 5 times and had to withdraw with a time of 22-ish minutes.

Nice music loop, would come back to it I think!

Into The Deep by clymm 2025-04-08T11:32:52Z

I liked this!

The weapon is REALLY fun to use - it's great that it just instantly kills/mines things. I really liked both the soundtracks and the ability to switch between them during game. The sound effects were fun :D The visuals were great too - nice sprites, particle effects etc.

It seems pretty difficult ATM, but that could be a skill issue on my part - I couldn't get much past the text that says 'Find a core' even with a couple of speed upgrades. It seemed to use up all the bought potions/batteries with one press button so even with the 7 potions I bought I couldn't get much further. Really solid concept though!

Mysterious Cave by Vladimir ins 2025-04-08T09:11:25Z

The visuals are really special I think! Nice quick game, I like the additive effect of the pumpkin jumps. Once I got the hang of it I managed to complete it. Good effort!

Explodicaves by ThatFirey 2025-04-21T16:26:17Z

This is a cool one! Really liked the sound. A standout platformer out of the ones I've played for this comp. Good controls, feels like a pretty fair challenge with thoughtfully designed levels with a good amount of obstacles and enemies. Really impressive that there are multiple useful abilities. Nice one!

DUCKDEPF by Jona Scheidig 2025-04-08T21:57:31Z

First of all, thought the music REALLY added to this game - it's so funky and fun!

The difficulty felt just right too - such well crafted obstacles, especially the big ribcages! It gives so many different ways of approaching the same obstacle rather than funneling you down into smaller and smaller holes, and keeps the game feeling so fresh.

There are really great little touches too - the stop signs, the trees which are oriented so you can fit through the branches, the slo-mo on death etc. Altogether feels like such a tight package, bravo!

Depths of Death by Philocode 2025-04-08T11:10:17Z

Really nice! Just beat it in 6 minutes, with around 1500 souls. By the 5 minute mark I was carving those Minotaurs up!!! I really like the particle effects in this, they are very tasty :ok_hand:

Sounds effects were nice and punchy, the rat scurrying one was a little loud and shrill but other than that it was great.

Nice gameplay loop, and appreciated the level variety too. I managed to get through it without the block or dash buttons. All in all a solid game, you should be very happy :D

Endless Depth by Dywanix 2025-04-08T09:47:00Z

Really nicely arranged! Think I saw pretty much all of the possible bits of level - Nice gameplay loop that kept me going, I probably did around 30 runs. Great pixel art too! The main character has a nice swagger :) And the simple black and white aesthetic was effective, only note is that the red color is cool is quite dark so it's hard to when the sea urchins are active or not. Great effort!

Marble Race To Hell by Gaverion 2025-04-08T10:09:04Z

Pretty fun! Super monkey ball in hell :) Like other players I couldn't resist the temptation to hurl myself off the edge to get to the bottom as quickly as possible - I couldn't beat the sub 18 set by @farzher though :D

The sound does seem a bit messed up on web - maybe the executable solves this? Liked the lava effect.

Meanepth by rensun 2025-04-08T21:41:26Z

What a cool experience! I played the web version and the PS1 style visuals really suited the vibe. So many amazing looking bits of scenery, it's such a carefully put together package.

I went a bit off-piste on the jellyfish section and ended up in a hole that I couldn't get out of - I didn't mind restarting the game though because the aesthetic was so cool! Also I thought the occasionally shaking objects were part of the scenery at the start so didn't think to try interacting until I'd done a few laps.

Had a blast though, great work team!

Edge Digger by Arthur Tang 2025-04-09T11:25:22Z

This was really great, and really stands out out of the games I've played so far! Title screen is amazing, music fits the game really well and everything in the game is really coherently put together.

You've struck an amazing balance with the difficulty - it was fun trying to focus on both sides of the screen at the same time, and I fell in a hole at one point that I couldn't get out of because I was focusing on the code input, which felt really fair as a reason to lose!

I noticed some slightly inconsistent behavior with the falling ERROR messages:

ok-left.png

If I pushed against the right and let go, I was safe from the error messages

not-ok-right.png

However if I pushed on the left side of a block and let go, the error messages got me, causing a death at this point. I died a couple of times when I wasn't sure what got me - think it was this?

Hope that's OK!

Into the Depths by byebye 2025-04-08T15:49:46Z

Nice push your luck game! I think I played quite cautiously and stayed at level 4 for a while, then I had quite a bit of money to rank up all the way to max level. It's cool you can play with different strategies though! Plus the visuals are really nice and it's a nice polished entry, good job :)

The fate of Carl by SagaDev 2025-04-08T09:02:42Z

Had a good time with this! I got to around 1500m depth I think with maxed out turrets - but Carl did not survive. The setting is really cool, and the music really makes it feel like a last battle. Well done :D

The Hole by dstoc 2025-04-08T13:43:00Z

Cool! I managed to do all 18 holes just about and it was pretty close at times, so quite tense! :) The procedural generation worked well, and made the decision to go for more coins or less strokes really interesting. The difficulty seemed spot on as I always was close to having the right amount of coins.

Oh No!! Astral Warp by plidomo 2025-04-08T12:08:39Z

Really appreciate the feedback! I definitely should have explained the mechanics a bit more. @firellon @clymm I've added a little visual explanation of what can be done to solve this in the body text of the game above , and for anyone else that gets stuck :)

Oh No!! Astral Warp by plidomo 2025-04-09T09:56:59Z

Thanks everyone so much for the kind feedback!

@a0405u Awesome thanks for finding and reporting that bug - I have fixed that and uploaded a new build.

OnlyDown by nojoule 2025-04-09T12:17:27Z

Nice stuff! It's a really great visual falling down, having all of the black spots coming down with you, and landing surrounded by black spots. It also doesn't really feel like placeholder art to me either - just adds to the vibe TBH! Looks a M.C Escher painting to me :D It would be nice if holding down and right when you're trying to jump off the right edge of a ledge worked - this was confusing to me that I could only hold down when the direction I wanted to move in isometric space was down and right

Lift by Mikan 2025-04-08T14:31:04Z

Really liked this one, and I could definitely play a full version of it!

It defeated me at the last stacking level where you have to get 5 high - all of the other puzzles were real head scratchers and had a couple of us stumped for a bit!

Big thumbs up!
