The text on the initial screen is sort of hard to read being mostly white on white/gray and I had a bit of trouble understanding what to sell to each character. But aside from that it was a neat idea with some really well done presentation. Loved the art and all the little tooltips when hovering over stuff.
A really nice concept, selling doujins under pressure and figuring out who wants what is pretty fun!
However with some of the clients it is bit harder to tell what they actually want and I imagine someone less knowledgeable with the references could have a harder time too, some time to look over your goods and read their descriptions before going to sell them would help a lot.
Also putting in the G36 Fumo is based. Best Gun.
10/10 love the idea
Game is very funny and it has a fresh and original concept ;) it is very niche of course and I had problems with understanding the references since my knowledge of anime is very limited. I agree that the text on the first screen could be a bit more readable. Good job!
Kamige.
But why can't I give the potato girl from neutral milk hotel to the girl asking for potatoes though?
> neso
you have my full attention
@actuallythemoon Thank you for the nice comment! Yeah, the white-on-white intro text was definitely an oversight. Should've added an outline, or something.
@vatx I'm glad you enjoyed the game! Yeah, we got to a point where we had to decide whether to make it playable for an ordinary person, or just lean into the niche anime bullshit. We chose the second option. I wanted to put G11 in there, but I got BTFO'd and our GFL man did G36 instead.
@mcmuniz & @Holden22 Thank you!
@chaikadev Skill issue. ("Potatoes..." actually refers to the Girls' Last Tour Fumo, In The Airplane Over Gensokyo is "I love... Kochiya Sanae...". Don't ask me, I've never even listened to the album in question, I only listen to Rules of Nature on repeat.)
@weetabix-su I'm glad! Make sure to hang on to it, wouldn't want to accidentally sell it to the wrong person!
Okay that was very crazy.
As someone who doesn't know much about this stuff, I can attest that you don't need to know about it to play. It was fun to figure out and while it is a niche topic I think the artwork and small conversations with guests does a good job of conveying what they want without the references being too obscure. Once you start to figure things out you can get into a rhythm. I think this is one of my favorite games so far. It's a refreshing concept. I just wish conventions lasted more than 3 days! Though don't we all.
This is a memory game. I think the player should be introduced to the inventory before the game begins, because right now it's very chaotic with practically no time to read.

A man of culture is the one you play, but i'm not that much of a weeb! Still, loved the referenced humor.
kawaii game~ I like it.
this is so chaotic. 10/10 work. would love to rapidly sell doujins at a con for my incapacitated friends again
I thought I was a weirdo for coding in crab, but to the power level of a F# user I must kneel. I enjoyed the game. It's pretty cute and funny to me, though I'd imagine perhaps not so funny for someone who don't get a fair chunk of the references, and I don't think revealing the inventory first would have made any difference on that front. You set out to make a game not everyone will like and you succeeded at that, so, no complaints whatsoever. Well done!

Thank you for playing and all the nice comments!
@alaah I think not having any time to read the item descriptions is the intended experience, it makes the game that much more stressful and chaotic if you don't exactly know what it is you're selling, and it fits with the lore of you being a friend that the other guys called in just to help out but ended up manning the booth by himself for three days. The chaos is (mostly) intended.
Also @chitoyuu F# is the shit yo, I wish you could use it in Unity too.
In fact, the original vision for the game also had the items individually priced (listed on a separate price list that you could check, Papers Please-style) and made the player manually drag-and-drop coins to give customers correct change, all within the ten seconds. The only reason we cut it was because we, ironically, ran out of time.
At several points we noted "Man, this game is pretty hectic." to which the reply was always "Yeah, but how can we make it even more so?"
@chitoyuu >You set out to make a game not everyone will like and you succeeded at that, so, no complaints whatsoever. Well done!
This guy gets it. Thanks for playing our game, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Wait, is that touhou?
I laughed a lot with the references! That was a good way to use the 10 seconds theme. Good game!
Hilarious idea executed really well, loved the varied customers that had different ways of telling you what they actually wanted. Not sure if a bug or I didn't understand something but on my second try the giant plush was gone so when the dude that wanted it showed up I didn't know what else to give him
LOL,a fun game! Actually I'm a player from china. This game is a kind of hard for me, but I really love the game! You are really good experts in anime!
By the way I listened to the music Bohemia Rhapsoby today so it's amazing too!!
But there are some netas I don't know, could you help me? thank you so much!

Thank you very much for the nice comments everyone!
@krasimir-balchev Just tried it out and I can confirm that if you sell the plushie and then fail to sell enough goods overall, the plushie will still be gone when you retry. This is definitely unintended and I'll let Steen know - thanks for pointing it out! I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
@c14 你好! Thank you very much for the praise, I'm really happy you enjoyed our game! I'll try to explain the references for you:
The first picture is of famous video game director (and self-professed inventor of the camera) Hideo Kojima, who really likes the anime Lycoris Recoil and has appeared in public wearing LycoReco t-shirts.
He wants to buy the big nesoberi plushie (same character as on his shirt, although I probably could have made them look more similar...)
The second picture might be one of the more tricky clues, even for westerners. Dick Dale was basically the front runner for Surf Rock as a genre. You might recognize one of his most famous tunes, Miserlou (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYjo__4COIo), from the classic movie Pulp Fiction. So the girl wants to buy the "Touhou Surf Rock 16" album.
The third picture is a reference to the album Soundtracks for the Blind by SWANS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfNOuwUXG2A&list=PLU_aM5EzmeKRZkbmPi7d4-Nz55GxwAHIJ), which is basically exactly what the tooltip describes.
(I hadn't actually read that tooltip yet, since Steen put it in rather late, but I love it).
The "shrine maiden complaining about the empty offertory box" is of course a reference to Hakurei Reimu, who is notoriously poor and of bad temperament.
Hope that helps!
@sleepymenace Thank u sooo much!! I knew when you said it for 1 and 3. The first neta is also very popular in china, And the third one I mistook the word shrine to shine LOL. But The second one is really hard! It's very helpful!! Have a good day.
That's a cute game, with a lot of fun anime references.
I hate to say I absolutely loved this game, I guess that means I'm a degenerate. This was by FAR the funniest game I have played in so damn long. Some of the references went over my head but everything was just so damn hectic and insane that I couldn't stop myself from ignoring the things I didn't understand and just focusing on all the good shit going on.
I also love the fact that this is my first 5 star in every category game.
Amazing entry that I will for sure be talking about for a while. Great job friend :)
PS. WHO THE HELL IS THIS?! His face is so familiar but I can't for the life of me place it. Everyone I ask thinks its Kojima and it was my first instinct too but idk. I feel like im losing my mind.!
[WHO IS THIS.PNG](///raw/e13/63/z/52648.png)
Edit: Goddamnit I just saw your comment to reply to someone else. I was right and I can now go rest.
I had absolutely no idea what I was doing at first, but slowly but surely learned the correlations between the dialogue & items and it became a fun, hectic time! I like a lot of the references here, and the art for the different characters is fun. I do wish there was a way to have more time to look over the boxes of goods beforehand, but that's just a small nitpick- it feels very well put together overall. Nice work!
I'll admit that I got way too many references - and I'm terrified about how many more I might have missed. Great game!
"Because that's the theme!" - brutally honest. Well, after successfully locating the executable (which is a game in itself) I was pleasantly put in the mood by the humor starting right from the intro screen. And it's always nice to see a Monogame entry.
Now, while the idea in itself is amazing, the game was too fast for me to handle, and I don't have knowledge of any of this lore. On first play, the only thing I successfully sold in 3 days was the "it sucks your ****" and I don't actually know how I managed to get that right without even glancing at the matching item's description.
Luckily, playing this game is a learning process, and also I seemed to have a sixth sense when it comes to guessing what these creatures really wanted so it all worked out. Great job tbh.
Once again, thank you all for the comments - it makes me truly happy to hear that even people who are completely unfamiliar with anime (and anime-adjacent bullshit) enjoy our game!
@rtdmfn That is, indeed, Hideo "I invented the camera, actually" Kojima jonesing for some LycoReco merch! I'm really glad you liked our game, thank you very much for all the 5 stars!
@brainloaf-studio Indeed, the "getting an opportunity to look everything over" thing is a recurring point of feedback. I understand why that would be preferable from a gameplay point of view, but from a lore point of view I feel that just being dumped right in the middle of things is a very important aspect of emulating the true experience of being ditched by your friends at a convention about something you are completely unfamiliar with, and being forced to sell things you don't even understand. Thank you for playing our game, though, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@sven-schoeling I'd honestly like to know which references people get and don't get! We put some pretty obscure stuff in there, and it would be fun to see if anyone picked up on it. Thank you for playing our game!
@kr4ft3r The dick-sucking bean plushie is universal. Just look at his little face. Unmistakable.
It sounds like your experience playing our game was exactly what I, personally, was hoping for while making it, which makes me really happy to hear! I was really hoping that the first playthrough would be hectic, chaotic, even overwhelming, but still leaving you wanting to try again. Thank you very much for playing our game!
(And yes, finding the .exe was our secret, second game submission.)
Wow, you have a very cool idea, it brings back memories of the festival in Japan! I'm thrilled.
lol funny idea, now I get to attend a doujin event just like my favorite anime CGDCT.
I got probably only half the references but there was still humor to be had even if you're not a total weeb. I loved that the anime bro is happy with the maid no matter what he says, just toss the doll at them! I also liked the masked up girl who gave off Watamote vibes, especially because of the things she asked for (I suppose both girls achieved that).
As for the gameplay, certainly a bit simple but that also meant it was easy to pick up. My first attempt went to hell, but on my 2nd playthrough I got 13k Yen (LD upload doesn't appear to work rn):

The cover art and title was a great hook and definitely got me interested in trying, but I suppose that's because I already like that theme and wanted to check it out. Doujins or not, this was the only 'match good to customer' game I've played this jam so it was cool to see how it would be explored, fun stuff!
The graphics are good, the sound design as well, and the gameplay is easy to understand.
However the culture around the game is unknown to me, so I did not understand most of the references.
Very fun game! how it looks and it's very fun to try understand what people ask for, well done!
Very enjoyable and good humor, I was thrown for a loop a few times as I am not that much of a man of culture. But I can see the immense humor and passion you put in there.
One thing I did find a bit daunting was finding the executable between all those DLLs, no idea if that is fixable but dear god, that game me limewire vibes from 'yee olden days'
@jirrev PAPA\_ROACH\_-\_LAST\_RESORT[128KBPS].MP3.EXE
I'm not sure about the .dlls, I was told it was "part of the aesthetic", "intended jank", and "please shut the fuck up, sleepy, i swear to god".
Thanks for playing our game, I'm glad you liked it!
@aripize I'm glad to hear our game reminded you of fond memories! Thanks for playing!
@peachtreeoath Haha, I honestly wasn't too sure about the cover image at first 'cause it kinda looks like a DLSite game, and it's also a bit of a bait-and-switch since the girl doesn't appear _that_ much. I'm glad you enjoyed our game, though, thanks for playing!
FINALLY MY PASSING KNOWLEDGE OF TOUHOU & LOVE LIVE HAS PAID OFF. Such a funny little game trying to figure out what they were after. First time round I didnt make it but the 2nd time round was fine. Graphics were so well done and the little hints were great to look at. The fucking Hideo cameo. I fucking lost it. Sometimes we all need a Nesoberi.
Ah the amount of references, was laughing all the way through 5/5
Cool idea). The only problem is that there is no time to read in advance what you will sell, but this is normal within the jam. In general, I spent a lot of fun trying to guess what they wanted from me).
Lovely game. I haven't smiled so much for a looong time!
Amazing game. Completely Unhinged to blow all the earnings at the izakaya afterpary. My only problem is that Kojima was alone in this game, please put Hideo as well in the next one.
very fun, excellent use of the theme, i hope you get first place. got nothing to critique that wasn't already said.
I love this art style!! <3
took me a few tries to understand who wants what but it was pretty fun, good looking game and sound design is nice
Omg so many references haha. I struggled to catch all of them. Nice use of the theme. I chuckled at some of the jokes. Overall great fun! Would have liked it if we were given just a bit of time to inspect what we were "selling"
One of the touhou /mu/core games of all time
