LD28 — You Only Get One

Stan's Happy Thoughts by sliphtrex 2013-12-16T00:33:00

As I'm sure you'll notice, something went severely wrong upon uploading the game to Kongregate. I can assure you the problem is with the upload not the game itself and I am doing everything possible to try and fix this issue.

Stan's Happy Thoughts by sliphtrex 2013-12-16T02:08:00

Please disregard that last comment. Apparently my computer just likes to mess with me at times of extreme stress. I tried it on a different computer and it worked fine.

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

The TV Remote by Leandrus 2015-04-20T03:36:00

I think front loading the controls was kind of confusing. the only keys I really used so far were the arrow keys along with e and d. If you had maybe put them in the level like a tutorial it probably could've helped a bit.

Isolation by nicklink483 2015-04-20T06:41:00

Really engaging mechanics. I felt so much tension trying to seclude each circle without getting hit. I've only played one game that was even anything similar to that. It was an old Game Boy color game that I don't even remember the name of.

Robowar by resty 2015-04-20T06:22:00

This looks so awesome. The attack patterns are really diverse and ever changing, and I can't say I've seem a game like this where you have to deflect enemy attacks. It may be because I'm normally no good at these kinds of space shooters, but I'll definitely give it a look tomorrow. I'm currently working from a Mac. :P

Slaughter the to Lamb by SuperMsp10 2015-04-20T03:23:00

I don't know why, but that game felt pretty unsettling. I like the concept, but I had a lot of trouble climbing the ladders.

Maze of Friendship by frondeus 2015-04-20T08:20:00

I liked the character voices when the monsters became friends. The maze seems well designed; definitely long enough to throw someone off once you get passed the first few levels. I don't really see the point of making friends though. A lot of the time the enemies seem either spaced out or clustered enough to avoid them, and if you befriend one they still have the potential of blocking your path. I think I made it out of the maze though in the end.

Vocal Power by JohnGalt 2015-04-20T03:09:00

I liked it. Although I didn't fully understand what was going on at first, it made sense once I had to start answering questions. That was definitely a different experience for me. Also, OOOOM-WAAAH!

Beermageddon by error031 2015-04-20T03:46:00

That was pretty fun. It kinda reminded me of Critical Annihilation except with a more clear goal.

Birthday Bash by DoppleDanger 2015-04-20T04:56:00

I loved how when the people got hit they just sat there with a derpy expression like "it's cool brah".

Elemental Castle Adventure by merrak 2015-04-20T05:11:00

Oh god, what are the spiders shooting at me, webs? I can't seem to figure out what to do with the items, but I guess that's kinda the point to figure it out, right? I enjoyed it.

Ghost in the Machine by Alice 2015-04-20T08:00:00

I don't often get hooked in text adventures but I actually played this one all the way through twice. I could hear the Renaissance music in my mind. I admit I had a hard time finding the relation to the theme, but mine doesn't have all too much to do with the theme either.

SHAMPOO PLEASE by napedia 2015-04-20T05:26:00

That was hilarious. I would have preferred more game play though. Even if it were more of the same leading to the same conclusion.

You are the carré by thedarknightdu78 2015-04-20T06:13:00

Basically everything the last person said but I got to the third level. I want to say that I have played something similar to this though I can't remember what. Also the art deco and color scheme are really freaking awesome.

Pacifist Piper by Pete Hufnagel 2015-04-20T05:38:00

Really solid game. I'm so hooked.

LD35 — Shapeshift

SHΔPE by TiRSO! 2016-05-21T01:23:00

This is so elegant.
I love it.
I'm hooked.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

The Time Tree by Chilleh 2022-10-04T23:28:31Z

I love the mushies! They are adorable. I really like the aesthetic of this world. It feels like it has it's own ecosystem and story. I feel like the gameplay is a bit slow though. That might've been intentional (I realize we're fighting slugs and the theme is every 10 seconds), but I feel like there isn't much to do if the only mechanic is placing power-ups. I'd like to join my fellow mushrooms rather than just watch them fight from the tree.

SKLOP by Beefsock 2022-10-03T23:27:11Z

That was really cool and definitely gets a 5 from me on mood. On the other hand, I feel like there wasn't much to do so I can't give it much for fun. I kinda wish the special tiles spawned endlessly and maybe reset after a point. Though, props for doing an art piece. I haven't seen one of those in LD before so I'm ranking it high on innovation too. I feel like it could benefit from some soothing music or maybe rain sounds to go with the water effect. Definitely a good start to something with a lot of potential. I guess what I'm saying is I want to see more, and that's a good thing.

Oh, and lastly, there needs to be a quit button. I had to control+alt+del to close it both times I tried it.

Panic at the Graveyard by Steven Garberg 2022-10-04T23:09:42Z

I have to say, this really just reminded me of my first Ludum Dare game from LD28. I made a game called Stan's Happy Thoughts which was like this but with aliens. The art in yours is much better though. The candies and health are an upgrade too. I think mine was a one hit kill kinda game with no reticle. I like this for the nostalgia more than anything and for the Halloween vibes. Thanks for making this! It makes me happy.

Untitled Cat Game by sliphtrex 2022-10-20T09:01:10Z

@arzi, I agree it would've been better if we could have plotted the whole course at once. Unfortunately we couldn't get the mechanics of running over tiles multiple times without stopping. Definitely something I'll have to figure out in the future.

Golova by Rexagon 2022-10-04T22:29:25Z

I really like the atmosphere of this game, although I think it could benefit from a few hints. I managed to win the first two rounds in a row somehow, but then after that I couldn't get a single one, and I probably never would've guessed it either. I think it could maybe benefit from a slightly higher angle, or a label on the objects. There were a couple times where I didn't see an object because it was mostly hidden behind another. Overall though, I want to know where this project goes. I would play it again.

10 Snekonds by YogurtTheHorse 2022-10-05T00:00:34Z

Oh man, I had a lot of fun with this. I feel like it might make it a little more forgiving if the weak points were one square further out from the pyramid. I kept dying immediately because the controls were a bit tight. I only got to the second stage, but I'm curious to know how many stages there are so I'm definitely gonna come back to this one. Also, I found it interesting that you can replace the head of the snake instead of the tail. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but that feels like an overall win because it allows you to come back if you're stuck with nothing but dead weight.

Actually, yeah, that must've been intentional, since you lose the end of the snake. It wouldn't make sense to gain one then immediately lose it. I really do need to have another go at this. I think it didn't fully sink in on the first try.

Update: I've got the hang of it now. I've found a good strategy of tightly circling the base. It's gotten me to stage 4 pretty quickly.

10 Snekonds by YogurtTheHorse 2022-10-05T00:24:25Z

@yogurtthehorse If you run head first into a block it will attach it to the front of the chain instead of the back. I guess, it's not really replacing so much as just adding on. I thought at first that your power-ups were dependent on which block was in front because I started with a speed block then slowed down with a slime block. Then I realized if I collect more speed blocks I go even faster. I didn't realize it was stacking.

What's the rules? by Pusheeneiro 2022-10-05T00:37:57Z

AAAAAHHHHH! What is with the vegetables? I will figure this out! I will! This game is so simple. Why is it so difficult?

I'm enjoying it I swear. This is a really nice first game. Way better than my first LD entry.

What engine did you use btw. I'm just curious.

Cure Casimir by Bender Biber 2022-10-03T22:36:29Z

I like the texture and character design of Casimir. I've been wanting to try out Godot, it seems cool. I hope the little guy feels better in time for Cure Casimir II.

Hotel Catastrophe by Xeltide 2022-10-04T22:10:09Z

Hey, another cat themed game! Honestly, I like this idea a lot. I like the concept of having the time linked to guest happiness. I think the controls are a bit too floaty and I wish I could climb the poles like the other cats, but I like the mechanic of cleaning a room by running around. Makes me think of a cat kicking around in their litter box.

For Whom The Bell Tolls by Diego Teran 2022-10-05T01:36:59Z

OMG this is so good! This reminds me of the Rusty Lake series of which I am a big fan. I feel like I was expecting a jump scare at some point though. Thanks for not doing that. I really like how intuitive the mechanics all feel. It's a really well designed puzzle game. I find room escapes to often be too difficult and frustrating, but this one was just right for the tone. Well managed scope for a 3 day project. I'm definitely a fan!

Sleight of Hand by elosociu 2022-10-04T19:53:15Z

I really want to play this but the aspect ratio is too big for my screen.

Chaos Pigeon by jabsatz 2022-10-03T22:22:24Z

I love the music for this! It's so fitting. Definitely a fun time! I've played it multiple times now and my high score is 16760. May come back to this. Those feel like rookie numbers. :D

10 Doujins per Second by steinuil 2022-10-04T21:06:26Z

As someone who doesn't know much about this stuff, I can attest that you don't need to know about it to play. It was fun to figure out and while it is a niche topic I think the artwork and small conversations with guests does a good job of conveying what they want without the references being too obscure. Once you start to figure things out you can get into a rhythm. I think this is one of my favorite games so far. It's a refreshing concept. I just wish conventions lasted more than 3 days! Though don't we all.

Don't Shoot Yourself by Bo Dangles 2022-10-03T22:49:01Z

First all 5 star rating! really well done! It's such an interesting concept that as you defeat more enemies you expose your clones to damage. Great difficulty curve. I feel like there may be too much going on at level 4 though. I couldn't even make it to level 5. I could just be bad though  .

Dubious Arcade by ocwal 2022-10-20T09:20:45Z

I like how the first one I got was try not to cry... and then I immediately failed. I like how there's a range of difficulty. It really makes me want to play the game until I can beat every challenge.

Resonance by Mediflect 2022-10-05T05:38:42Z

Yo, this was really cool. I like the puzzles and the atmosphere. The only little complaint I have is the waiting. I feel like it would be better to maybe slow time and keep the lights on longer or something, or simply stop time until we say to start it again. It just feels very "red light, green light". Still, a better puzzle game than I could design, especially under time restraints.

Spooky Glitch by nicorm 2022-10-03T22:02:43Z

Warioware! Why didn't I think of that! :D No, but that was really fun and definitely got high marks from me. High score was 17. Can't wait for Spooky day now!

Terminal Words by gui_pererao 2022-10-04T22:49:00Z

Haha, I like the vibes. I feel like I'm taking a typing test on an old computer in an abandoned bunker or something. Idk if the words are randomized from a list or not, but it was funny to me that, at one point, I started getting several short words. Then all of a sudden I got the word "synchronized". I immediately failed after that  .

I feel like this could benefit from a story and maybe more mechanics. It doesn't stand out as much of a game to me on it's own. Not to say it wasn't fun, I guess I was just expecting there to be more to it than just "type words until you fail". Also, saying how many seconds I lasted rather than how many words feels like tracking the wrong thing to me. I want to know how many words I typed.

The House of Gillamoor by Piboy314 2022-10-05T00:53:33Z

I didn't get to see the color inversion on my play through, but I like the control swapping. I think that's a mechanic that goes under-appreciated a lot of the time. I didn't get to try all the levels, but it looks like a lot of work went into this in such a short time. That's really cool to see 5 levels. Our game was shooting for 6 at first, but we only got 3  .

Update: I saw the color inversion. It was trippy. I enjoyed it.

Justin Time: Man of the Hour by applecore555 2022-10-04T21:55:36Z

I can't believe this was made in only a few days! This is sooooo good! I'd totally play a full version of this if it had a story. The music is great, I was literally humming it for most of the game without realizing it. The art is cool and makes me think of Yu-gi-oh's Time wizard, but mixed with that Newgrounds style Flash artwork. The cards are all time puns. The first time I saw the boss I was like "what! Oh no!" This was really really well done.

I think my only complaint would be that I'm not sure how long each round goes on for, but it really feels like it's too long. Again, that's fine for a game jam, but if this were to get a full version, I'd expect more like almost puzzle based levels or little scrimmage matches akin to say Inscryption. Also, it may benefit from a better explanation of the rules. It took me a little while at first before I fully understood what I was doing. And a better indication of where the cards are attacking would be nice. There were several times where simply clicking a card placed it on an empty tile and others where I went to use a card and realized the enemy was actually one space back because they were floating. Maybe outline them in red or green if they're being targeted and make sure the player can't accidently play a card if they select it too quickly. Maybe a full click to select then a full click to place rather than click and drag.

Really loved this game though! I hope I get to see more of it in the future.

LD52 — Harvest

Rhythm Reaper by BtheDestroyer 2023-01-09T16:22:37Z

Yo, I could see this being a real good concept if you keep going with this. I like the theme of a rhythm based combat game where you play as the grim reaper. I think the combos could use some work though.

I should clarify that I'm not really sure if I was successfully doing them or not. I noticed some different attacks like throwing the scythe vs. swinging it, but nothing really stood out to tell me "this is a combo". I feel like having the combos in the top left while the track is at the bottom also makes it hard to think about them in the moment.

I found myself either looking at the combos and pressing when I thought I was on rhythm or looking at the track and just trying to stay on beat. I think if you displayed the combos right above the rhythm track (or even found a way to transpose them directly onto it) it would do a lot to help the player figure out what they're supposed to do.

That being said I really liked this game. Definitely better than my hunk of garbage .

In other news, what's up fellow dP :dragon:'s ! It's so cool to see people I know on here. How's life been since the good old days (2017)?

Lila's Garden by sliphtrex 2023-01-10T02:08:08Z

@ben-toosey should bring you to the download page with a web link now. I think the link is randomized every instance or something.

Night Job by AdamPhoebe 2023-01-10T02:40:03Z

Oh my god this was really good! I really like that old-timey flickering effect. I want to know how you did that.

Just a couple nitpicks before I give this a full score. On the operation where I had to remove both kidneys I removed the right one first and then when I went to remove the left it wouldn't let me so I did the right again and the left kidney swapped out with the right one and removed the right one again. Also, in the last operation I removed the heart and nothing happened. I don't know if there was supposed to be an ending and the game just broke, but if there was something else I didn't end up seeing it.

Now for my score: Overall, I gave it a 5. I thought it was a well put together project, and I'd love to see it developed further.

Humor and mood are such easy categories that seem under utilized in LD. 5's for both of those.

5 on graphics. Again, I feel like a lot went into this. If this was all made in the game jam I feel like I have so far to go. I love seeing stuff like this and just thinking "I will probably never be this good".

I gave audio a 4. I liked the music, but I didn't really think it stood out. Not a bad thing. It does what it's supposed to.

For fun and innovation I did 3 and 2 respectively. I did enjoy the game, but as far as mechanics go I would've liked to see more game play than just "click to do thing". When I think innovation I think innovative mechanics first, then theme second.

Again, I really did like this and would probably play this if it was a full game (or at least watch streamers/YouTuber's react to it ).

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

TINY PACK by xk_the_name 2024-10-07T12:56:15Z

This is a really cool entry. If you guys decide to make this into a full game, I'd totally play it. Only thing I can really think to add would be maybe music.

I gave it a 4/5 for audio because of the cute little "meep" sound effects and the ambient night sounds didn't escape me either. I just feel like maybe something droning or eerie cymbal crashes would really bring it to a perfect score. Maybe some suspenseful violins?

I only gave it a 2.5 for innovation. It could just be me, but I feel like there have been a lot of games like this coming out lately. I'm not complaining, I still really enjoy them, but I don't feel like this one really did anything to set itself apart. Kinda feels like Die In The Dungeon meets Inscryption.

Tinygotchi Creatures by Vinicius Veronese 2024-10-08T02:28:14Z

Why is no one talking more about this game!?! Let me be the first. This is really cool. I've never seen anyone do a digital version of an analogue game like tomogotchi before. Definitely got a lot of 5's from me. The only thing I didn't give full 5's on are humor and fun, but the latter is just because it's not my personal genre preference and the former is because I don't really think humor was the goal here.

I really think it could be a successful simulator game with some minor difficulty/design tweaks (more time to meet requests, maybe a better way to differentiate which pets need immediate attention), but I really liked this and it definitely blows anything I could make out of the water.

I don't like how I kept losing before I even got my bearings in the level. My high score was 10, but once I got the hang of things I definitely started feeling like there is a rhythm to it. Maybe if you had like hot keys 1-9 to cycle between the pets and the lose condition was like (obviously if one dies in your care, but also) if you already have 10 and you don't send any back before the next one comes in. Not gonna lie, it took me until like the 3rd game to realize you need to send them back out to get points. I really hope this becomes something more. Wishing you guys the best.
