Junta! Police State 1981 by rjhelms 2021-10-09T05:08:35Z

This is my favorite compo so far! The controls are super tight and responsive, and the ever-decreasing STABILITY bar keeps the pressure on. I like how if you collide with a civilian while going slowly, you just knock them over instead of killing them - such attention to detail! The graphics and audio are simple and work well together. Reminds me of an old NES game, but more modern. The only thing that was a little weird was that at one point I got three events in a row that were all at the same location (2 protests and a supply pickup at the police station). That's minor though - overall, great job!

Hikari’s Journey 光の旅 — the umbral world by Junber 2021-10-09T05:54:37Z

What a game! This is one of the best I've played in the jam so far. I love how the presentation and genre changes as you move through the game, and how it's tied into the narrative. Reminds me a little bit of Evoland, but I liked this a lot better. The narrative themes were very emotional and mature, and overall a lovely take on the unstable theme. The music was great - I particularly liked when the solo piano piece switched from a minor to a major key in one of the game transitions. Loved it!

P.S. I lol'd at the Jojo reference - was not expecting that AT ALL

FrogEatsMouse by JCMonkey 2021-10-06T04:41:16Z

This is a hard one! I think you did a good job of incorporating the theme into game mechanics; it always feels like there's something that you need to keep an eye on. I agree with some of the others that the boss has too much health; maybe difficulty settings that adjust the health of the boss would be a quick and easy way to make it more accessible.

Final Slumber by Flatgub 2021-10-09T05:18:17Z

So moody! I love the little world building bits and how you uncovered the story asynchronously by interacting with objects. I definitely felt a little spooked and unnerved as I played it, especially on the walk back to the end. My only complaint is that I couldn't figure out how to make the game any larger - it was stuck in a relatively small window on my desktop. Other than that though, it was really great! You nailed the aesthetic with the graphical and audio choices. Awesome job!

First Flight by defectivemelon 2021-10-06T05:06:13Z

Very polished! The puzzles were well designed and satisfying to solve. I really liked the artwork for the title and level select screens. The only negative feedback I have is that after I finished the 8th level, I didn't realize that the game was over and was a bit confused; a victory screen or "thanks for playing!" message would clear that up though. Overall I liked it a lot!

SEXY BOOBY 95 by silkworm_sweatshop 2021-10-09T06:04:17Z

I saw the final joke coming and still laughed anyway. Super funny game - loved the nostalgic throwback!

CalmR - Rock Skipping Mindfulness by Eli Delventhal 2021-10-06T06:47:36Z

Very interesting take on the theme! I really like how the game subverts your initial expectations - I thought it was a little weird and on-the-nose at first, and was glad to see it go in a different direction. The audio was great; very soothing and relaxing. The presence of real VA definitely sets the mood.

My biggest frustration was with the controls - I was on mouse/keyboard and I struggled to get the rock to go where I wanted at first (it almost always went way farther than I wanted). I eventually settled on the second control scheme, which felt a lot more consistent. The easy mode toggle was very much appreciated.

One thing to call out is is that I found a game-breaking bug - if you select a rock with the mouse, and then look down at the dock, you start to collide with the rock and it bounces you off the dock, causing you to fall beneath the map.

Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit! I also used an AI character in my game, so it was interesting to see another take on the idea. The ending was pretty funny :)

Frogmented World by spudboy 2021-10-06T04:25:18Z

The space-bending mechanic was fun and easy to learn! The puzzles were well crafted and satisfying to solve.

Systems Unstable by David Brož 2021-10-10T02:07:49Z

Super easy to jump into and play. I really like the pacing of difficulty, and how the game gets progressively harder as it goes on. The music fit the mood of the game perfectly, and the sound effects and graphics combined gave it that classic space shoot-em-up feel. I appreciated the outlines on the enemies and player, which made it easy to see them against the background. Short and sweet!

Pillars of Stability by AMastryukov 2021-10-10T02:47:54Z

Love it! It's super polished and plays very well. The main mechanic is easy to grasp, but there's just enough complexity to make you think a bit as you go through. The presentation is spot-on; I loved the artwork, music, and sound effects. The overall vibe reminded me a bit of Papers, Please but more modern. A very interesting take on the theme, and one of my favorites overall!

Fission Friends by Peco 2021-10-07T05:57:32Z

Adorable! I love the sound design, the graphics, the font choice - it's all super duper cute. The way things spiral out of control quickly really sells your take on the theme. I think I would have preferred if things ramped up a little slower (so I had more time to feel in-control) but that's just a nitpick. The character design reminds a bit of Baba Is You. Love it!

Instability Verse by Stroe Andrew 2021-10-09T01:47:28Z

The art is really well done - I like the painterly aesthetic a lot! The mechanics are pretty obtuse, but there's enough there to understand what's going on once you put some time into it. I think making the data on your current tile a little more centered would help a lot. Right now it's in the bottom left corner in really small text, and it took me a few minutes to even notice it was there. If it was just over the tile directly, it would be much more obvious. The music was a nice touch and set the mood well. Once I figured out how things worked, I definitely started feeling the pressure to get as much done as I could before the next event happened. It felt a little bit like an RTS in that regard!

Potion Panic by LittleW00D 2021-10-08T04:16:32Z

I liked it! The mechanics were a bit obtuse at first (I didn't realize the movement is on a grid at first), but once I figured it out it was pretty fun. The graphics and audio worked well together too. Simple but fun!

Gossip Market by LoicLeGrosFrere 2021-10-10T21:44:38Z

The minimalist style really suits this game well! Interesting concept with having the prices of the items literally tied to a swinging axis; really makes you think about "buy low, sell high" as a strategy haha. It's interesting trying to manipulate a physics system to maximize profits. I think a "reset balance" button to spend money on might be nice, since once all the blocks fall off one of the axes, it just sort of wobbles back and forth for a while. Having the option to spend money to restabilize it would be interesting. Not bad overall!

Buzzing Orchard by mharring 2021-10-16T22:10:16Z

Loved this! It reminds me of Roller Coaster Tycoon in a way. The mechanics are a little hidden at first, but there's enough there to understand the basics (e.g. if the trees have apples all the time, they aren't being harvested fast enough). I think a little explanation or extra info would help; I wasn't clear on the interaction between the hives and the trees, though I assumed that the circle meant something. My biggest gripe is that there's a bug with the pathing tool where you have to hit ESC to get it to disable, but ultimately that's a minor thing. I really like the audio design - the money sound is great, and I love how the music changes as you go through the game and get closer to the deadline. I played 3 times just so I could beat it. One of my favorites!

Labarnas — A narrative board game in ancient times by SimonL 2021-10-09T01:19:05Z

Fun game! I played the 1.4 version, and I had a printer handy so I was able to print it out and do it all physical, with cards and dice and everything. I really appreciated not having to read all the rules to start - it made the game really approachable. I played three games in total - the first I lost after about 15 cards, the second I lost after only ~7 cards, and then the last one I won. The game definitely feels like a struggle for stability, and in that regard I think you nailed the theme. Well done!

As far as critique goes, there was only one interaction I wasn't really sure about how to resolve. In my first game, I had both Nuhasse and Kizzuwatna occupied by the Assyrians, and then a Sea People raid happened on Nuhasse. I wasn't sure if the "weakened" tile on Nuhasse was supposed to apply to the attack on Hatti, though ultimately it didn't matter because I rolled a six and lost anyway haha.

Overall it was a good time! I can tell a lot of thought into the mechanics and making sure they were well-balanced. My winning strategy was to put two cards on famine and sea raids each, and then do my best to survive at least one Asyrrian advance. Once I survived at least one, I knew I was safe from that loss condition (since there were only 3 cards that caused it in total), so I was able to focus on just defending Hapalla and Kizuwatna while keeping my farmers afloat. Great job!

Three Miles High by avareii 2021-10-10T03:17:04Z

One of the few games where I lost track of time simply due to how much fun it was - very well done! It's very well polished overall, and a great take on the theme. The mechanics are very well designed; I constantly found myself debating over which item to take as the quota rose higher and higher. The randomization of the shapes and types definitely made it a challenge to keep building the tower. I ended up getting to a quota of 5.5k before I accidentally knocked my tower over, triggering every loss dialogue all at once, which was really funny. Really well done; one of my favorites!

Unstable Wizarding by Emty 2021-10-16T22:38:30Z

It's 3D! I liked the animations on the player and the monsters - they were simple but worked well. The minimap was very useful and I was very glad to have it. I found that the monsters took way too long to kill, so I opted to just run past them and spam shield to avoid losing HP. I didn't know what to do after getting the golden apple - I initially ran back to the start, and then backtracked to where the apple was and realized there was more to the map. Maybe making the final objective clear would have helped there a bit. Nice job overall!

Big City Opossum by kenster 2021-10-10T02:36:54Z

I really liked the music in this one! I would have loved to have seen some animations for walking/fighting/eating trash, but I understand that time is always short on these types of projects. One thing I discovered about partway through is that you can actually keep attacking if you hold Space while holding X. This makes some of the fights fairly trivial, because the enemies don't attack while you're playing dead, and you can pop back up for a brief second to keep them from running away. That aside, it was a fun little adventure, and I laughed at having to eat garbage to keep my stability from running down. Nice job!

Warp Driver by Wilko 2021-10-08T05:47:32Z

Probably the most fun I've ever had with a 2D golf game! Very polished and it plays incredibly smooth. The mechanics are very easy to pick up, but it's a very skillful game, especially with the gravitational mechanics. I loved the way you blended the space aesthetic with the golf mechanics; you really created something unique. And there's a leaderboard too! My only nitpick is that the tutorial text at the beginning took too long to auto advance (I wasn't sure if "skip" meant advancing or skipping the tutorial entirely), but that's a super minor thing. Overall, one of my favorites of the whole jam!

Unstable Concoction by itsatony 2021-10-10T02:23:04Z

Easy to play, hard to master - I think this sums up the mechanic you've got here! There's definitely a learning curve to tossing and catching the potion, but once you start to get the hang of it it's a lot of fun. I think the one thing I would change about the controls would be not slowing down the character while aiming. Having to slow down to aim felt like it killed my momentum a bit. I started trying to click quickly to not get slowed down, but it reduced my accuracy a lot and I ended up dropping the potion on accident a bit. That's entirely my fault though for wanting to go fast though :) The sound effects and music fit the prompt well, and the character sprites are very well done. Nicely done!

Un's Unstable Table by MEGA Marlon 2021-10-07T05:44:05Z

Super interesting concept! Once I got the hang of manipulating the push stick I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's pretty hard to get the soldiers into just the right place, but satisfying when you finally get it. I would have appreciated a faster shoot timer, or maybe another way to trigger it manually, as I got a little antsy waiting to see if I got things set up just right. The North Korea theme was funny and a clever take on the theme.

Manicat by RexTGun 2021-10-09T02:19:05Z

One of the most ridiculous games I've played so far. I think at one point my gun had a clip size of 420 and I was just spamming left click flying around on the ceiling. I think my highest score was around 28 or so. Absolutely hilarious!

The Great Derby by Geojax 2021-10-07T05:52:08Z

This is by far the funniest game I've played so far! The galloping sound effect got me real good :) The music was a nice touch too. I'm not sure if this was a bug or not, but when I pressed left/right the character would always move insanely fast, so it was hard to position myself in front of the stations. I think it was only happening to me since nobody else is mentioning it here. That said, I was still able to experience most of the game, and it was pretty fun. Well done!

UnstableClownKidnapYou by Jim jagers 2021-10-09T04:35:52Z

I don't think it gets much lower than 6, even with perfect RNG:

clownspeedrun.png

I honestly had a pretty good time optimizing the speedrun for this with my friends. The way the clown honks his nose and runs around after he gets you is hilarious. Not bad!

🌎 Planet Unstable - The Law of Balance by Stefan B. 2021-10-10T21:54:31Z

I like the audio here, it fits the game very well! I lost about 8 times in a row, before managing to carry 1 population all the way to 2020 before dying. I think the biggest thing that would improve the game would be giving the player more immediate feedback on how they're doing. Maybe some adding some UI meters (like temperature, humidity, etc) would help, so that way the player could more easily evaluate the effect of what they're doing on the planet. I mostly felt like I was moving the clouds around randomly and trying to react to the little news pop-ups. That said, I really appreciate the ecological take on the theme; it's very relevant and not a topic explored by many games.

Eruption by Jadeskon 2021-10-09T04:20:33Z

I really liked the graphics! It was super clear what everything was, the particles looked nice, and the island had a lot of good variety. I lol'd at how the people just stack up in the back seat - I actually had the most fun just trying to see how many I could stack before running out of time. My biggest frustration was with the acceleration - the car felt decently responsive when turning, but trying to accelerate/decelerate felt really slippery. Overall it was fun, and I liked the different "endings" depending on how you died!

Plip-plop! Unstable Conditions of Care by sakura_magika 2021-10-10T21:34:45Z

I really like how musical this game is - piano is such an expressive instrument and this game really illustrates that! I like the take on the theme, because by the fourth level things really do feel... unstable. It's really hard! The graphics are cute and go well with the audio. I think the one thing I would change would be to make the meters visible by default, as the first couple of times I did the food level I had no idea how well I was doing or why I was getting certain scores. Once I had the meters though, the game mechanics made a lot more sense to me. Nice job!

Arranging The Deckchairs by Jibberwocky 2021-10-16T23:09:22Z

Lovely art and sound design. The game has a very charming vibe to it. The concept is pretty funny (I laughed at the full title when I saw it) and works well for the theme. One thing that was a little weird is that you can't jump unless you're moving. It doesn't detract from finishing the game, but I thought the input was broken at first. I like how just throwing the deckchairs is more efficient than dragging them. Nice job!

Witches Brew by wertyyytrew 2021-10-08T05:22:59Z

I really liked the art! The mechanics were a little tricky to figure out at first - for example, I didn't get that I had to keep "stirring" the cauldron to keep the spoon from hitting the edge. Once I started getting a good grasp on what I was supposed to do, though, it was a lot of fun! I like how the mechanics are slowly layered in over time. The pacing felt spot on there. One minor thing - the music was insanely loud when I started, and I had to turn it down almost immediately. Overall, it was fun and I liked it a lot!

One more thing: you can adjust the size of the game window on the itch.io page by adjusting the viewport resolution in your Unity player settings before building. I noticed your game window was super small by default and figured it wasn't intentional. In Unity, if you go to Edit -> Project Settings -> Player, you can adjust the resolution here (these are the settings I used on my game):

webgl_res.png

After you do that, you can go to the itch.io settings for the game and modify the viewport there too so it matches (I added a little buffer, so my itch.io viewport was 1414x843). I spent a while figuring this out for my own game, so I hope it helps!

The Cave Diamond by PSV Games Studio 2021-10-10T02:57:25Z

Simple concept, but executed well! I like how you learn the mechanics as you go; it's paced well. The graphics are clean and well done. My only complaint is that the camera feels unnecessarily restrictive when looking up - you can only look up about 40 degrees or so before it stops you. Since the lava was gaining on me, I wanted to look up to see what was ahead of me, and I found it weird that I couldn't. Overall, it's very polished and plays well!

Up! A physics based climbing adventure. by kernon 2021-10-08T05:54:58Z

Simple but fun! I liked trying to plan out how I wanted to structure my tower, only to have it inevitably fall apart because, well, it's *unstable* :) I smiled when I saw the little turtle pop out - love that programmer art! A reset button would be very welcome, given how easy it is to accidentally trap yourself. I think it also might be interesting to give the player the ability to freeze a single object, or maybe exert forces on the structure like some other have suggested. Overall it was fun little building game!

Hamster Powered Elevator Shaft by SilverBRanch 2021-10-06T06:17:29Z

Super pretty graphics! I actually just acquired an RTX card and I was NOT expecting to get to use it in a Ludum Dare game; very cool! The gameplay was fun and challenging. The audio fit the game very well and made it feel active and energetic. The fact that there's a functional leaderboard is awesome too.

Benji's Boat by MargotLsdgt 2021-10-16T21:35:57Z

I love the presentation here! The graphics and audio are very well done. I really like the water shader you used for this. Simple concept and easy to understand. My only nitpick is that the tilt controls via arrow keys didn't feel super responsive, but I was still able to roughly manipulate the boat how I wanted. That said, keeping the cargo on board is straightforward, and it works well as a cohesive experience. Well done!

Inside by not-tomo 2021-10-06T07:25:02Z

Love the character art and world building! I really like the contrast between the two parts of the game. I think a credits screen or "thanks for playing!" to signify that you reached the end would have been really helpful - I thought those were just game overs until I came here and read some of the comments. Overall it was a nice little adventure with some fun twists.

A Gift in Good Faith by python-b5 2021-10-16T22:27:41Z

I like the presentation here - it's got that simple retro 2D vibe. The graphics are simple but easily readable, and the audio complements it well. The flare mechanic is more useful than it initially appears - I didn't realize that it just changes the minotaur's pathing target at first, but once I did I started trying to put as much distance between myself and the flare to get as much out of it as I could. The minotaur is certainly an oppressive enemy, and I like how the drum beat kicks in when it gets close to you. Like some other commenters have said, the game is just a bit too hard - either the minotaur's pathing could be adjusted (so it doesn't home in on you perfectly every time), or it could move a little slower so as not to be so punishing. I only got the first gem and tried to get the second one about 8 times before giving up. Nice job overall though - the game is very polished and plays well!

rUnstable by g5-leonardo 2021-10-11T01:43:52Z

Nicely done! It's very polished and definitely looks like an Unreal game. The controls are simple to understand, and the on-screen display makes it easy to keep track of the changes in the bindings as they happen. The music was cool at first, but after playing for a while it felt pretty repetitive. Simple concept and executed well - great job!

Missed Spelling by Gryhyphen 2021-10-07T05:23:00Z

I really liked the audio on this one! The neon aesthetic is cool too I was little confused about how much to misspell the target words - do things that are close to 100% accuracy but miss it slightly get the highest score? Overall simple and deceptively challenging.

My First Game Jam Game by thedude3600 2021-10-09T03:57:40Z

I like the idea! The puzzles were well designed and I had fun figuring out the solutions. Like some other suggested, I think making the characters a bit faster would help. I found myself waiting for the character to get where I wanted it to go, despite already knowing what solution I wanted to try. Overall it's a fun a little puzzle game!

LIMITED dude by Rimgaudas 2021-10-09T04:50:17Z

Interesting concept and deceptively challenging. It was pretty funny how if you had your mouse aimed wrong you could just lose immediately at the start (though it was easy to notice and fix). I'd make some of the earlier levels a little easier so players can ease into the mechanics a bit. Not a bad compo entry! Don't forget to rate other people's games too.

Dreampoint Collapse by JoeRenglish 2021-10-07T05:33:30Z

One of my favorites so far! It's tough, but in a very fair and interesting way. Once I realized I could pre-plan my block placements I felt like my brain expanded a little bit. My only nitpick is that I would have appreciated having jump also bound to the space bar, but that's just my personal preference. Overall it was great!

Life Gives You Lemons by Chairshot Games 2021-10-06T06:07:56Z

Cute graphics and loads of writing. It was fun to interact with all the little objects and figure out which ones you could interact with. A little bit of audio would go a long way; it felt a little lonely as a silent game (or if there was supposed to be audio, I couldn't hear any).

Mudball by JD_Isaac 2021-10-16T22:52:48Z

Nice job for a first project! It's simple to understand and plays well. I played the first two levels and then skipped to the last one to see how the difficulty ramps up. I like how the droplets get easier to collect when you're small, but it simultaneously becomes harder to dodge the spikes as well as making it easier to tip the platform because you're so large. I think it fits the theme well. Overall it's better than a lot of other submissions I've played - well done!

Shields Down by immortalnights 2021-10-16T22:45:49Z

It took me a bit to put the mechanics together but once I got it was a fun experience! I like the simple high-contrast graphics. It's very easy to tell the player, enemies, asteroids, etc. apart, and it fits the aesthetic of the game. One thing that initially confused me was that I was worried I would have to dodge the enemies, but it seems like they only bother to attack the station. One improvement that might make the game flow a little better might be to add hotkeys for repairing the station. When the station integrity is getting dangerously close to zero, I'm always going to go into the upgrade menu to try to repair it, so have a single button dedicated to that (maybe E or R?) would smooth out that part of the experience. Nice job overall!

Astounded by J. H. Jaskeran 2021-10-06T07:01:27Z

I really liked the audio and the color choice - very atmospheric and moody! I felt like the eye enemies felt a little unfair because their projectile moves so fast, and it's hard to take cover when you have to charge up your attack to use it. Great job on a first game!

It is rainy by DeltaMain 2021-10-07T06:23:31Z

The pixel art graphics work really well! I agree with some of the other commenters that some ambient rain SFX or background music would have added a lot to the overall mood. I enjoyed the little interactions you added, like toggling the lights or going to bed. With more gameplay I could definitely see this working as a cool relaxation game.

Dreamy Dimension Dive by zacryol 2021-10-16T23:01:21Z

I like the mood on this one - the simple graphics are complemented well by the aetherial/dreamy background track you picked! The wall jumping is tough but a fun mechanic - like some others have said, I'd make the timing a little more forgiving. I enjoyed being able to wall jump back onto the same wall - reminded me of N+ a bit! If it weren't for the checkpoint system, I would have given up early on, but respawning basically where I died enticed me to keep trying over and over again. A nice take on the "hard platformer" vibe!

Wurst Angst Apple Joy by Alexej 2021-10-16T20:25:27Z

Very interesting take on the theme! I liked seeing how the same interactions played out between the two different mindsets. I liked the talking sound effects at first but they became a little grating after a while as some other commenters pointed out. The rest of the audio was great though - the background tracks for each mindset really set the mood well! If I could change one thing, I would give the player the ability to switch between the two mindsets whenever they wanted. A couple of times I found myself wanting to be in a specific mode to talk to a specific person, but having to wait for it to switch before I could do so. Overall though, it's a cool experience!

Toil & Trouble by eveenova 2021-10-07T06:32:38Z

Lovely pixel art! The presentation is great all around, it really does feel like a potion brewing game. Trying to get to a target color is a cool concept, though it was kinda frustrating when I was super close but the potion would just explode. I think a few more hints on which ingredients are unstable would help there. I had a good time experimenting and just seeing what effects certain ingredients had on the color.

Crybaby-sitter by always prepared 2021-10-08T05:34:01Z

Fun concept! I love the take on the theme; the baby crying when the controls change really sells it. The music was fun too and fit the game perfectly. I think a hurt effect (sound, red flashing, etc) would have helped a lot. I had to lose quite a few times before I realized that the flying objects were hurting me! It's a pretty hard game but the controls are consistent and fair. I liked the graphics and the cute character sprite as well. Well done!

Realignment by Mediflect 2021-10-06T07:54:54Z

Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback everyone! I will make an effort to play each and every one of your games over the course of the week. I'm glad the little easter eggs I included are being found :)

One thing I'd like to throw out there is that there are in fact two different endings, in case anyone is willing to play through the game a second time. I wanted to add a button to the credits so you could get to the other ending more easily, but I ran out of time.

I also just added a link to the source code at the bottom of the page, in case anyone is curious.

@misterpapi I'm so happy you appreciated the musical interpretation on the theme! The chord resolutions were actually the very first thing I made, before I even started on the code.

@gryhyphen I appreciate the detailed feedback! I agree that the character design isn't very strong. Your suggestions are great and I'll keep them in mind for future projects.

Love the graphics! The shader work is really cool here. Good use of the 10 second mechanic as well. Well done!

Stellar Sauce by Wheffle 2022-10-08T20:33:13Z

Really strong compo! The art/music/sound effects all work really well together. Love the addition of dialog too. Great work!

Untitled Cat Game by sliphtrex 2022-10-05T01:51:33Z

The pixel art is so cute! Very cool to see another take on a puzzle game with this theme. I had a little trouble with the first puzzle because I didn't realize you could move diagonally to get off the bed. I liked the music - it's simple, but it works really well at establishing the mood for each part of the game. Nice job!

Choo Choo Crossing by Hydezeke 2022-10-06T05:37:39Z

Chaotic, hilarious, and thrilling - I had a blast! Loved the option to play with a controller. Everything feels super cohesive; the visuals, audio, and gameplay all work together amazingly. Here's my best score:

HydroRobia by JoeShanahan 2022-10-06T04:26:07Z

Very polished overall! I especially liked the death sequence, how the music pitches down and the screen goes grayscale before you just... explode. I really appreciated having level select unlocked from the beginning, and I was impressed with how many unique levels there were. Great work!

(also the music weirdly reminded me of Luigi's Mansion?)

Countdown Cowboy by waffleworksgames 2022-10-06T03:36:23Z

The pixel art is super cohesive and and looks great! The difficulty curve on the minigames keeps them interesting without being too repetitive. I managed to get 800 points. Really well done!

HeartBeat by chromaphase 2022-10-06T04:10:10Z

First game I've seen with voice acting - super cool! I really liked the overall atmosphere and mood. It's cool how the theme works from both a gameplay and a narrative context.

StrayaCraft by Enad96 2022-10-08T20:08:08Z

I loved the faces + voices for the units! Gives the game so much character. Music was really nice too. Nice work!

Time To Live: 10 by Lancival 2022-10-06T03:56:23Z

Interesting idea! Simple at first, but some of the later levels are real mindbenders.

Barely Something Barely Somewhere Every Ten Seconds by shreemp 2022-10-08T03:26:10Z

The music and artwork are working well together. A great start! Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Resonance by Mediflect 2022-10-04T02:09:34Z

Thanks for the early feedback everybody! I'll make sure to check out everyone's games when my brain cells regrow in the morning.

@fedir - turns out I was relying on the itch.io fullscreen button, which... doesn't work. I've pushed a hotfix that replaces it with the Unity version of the button (different WebGL template), so the game should be working great in fullscreen now.

Resonance by Mediflect 2022-10-08T03:23:06Z

@shreemp - Sorry to hear about the drift bug! I saw it as well in early builds of the game but it stopped happening at some point, so I didn't bother to investigate it. I'll take another look to see if there's an obvious answer in the code. Thanks for playing!

Resonance by Mediflect 2022-10-08T04:18:45Z

I investigated the issue and it seems like the problem likely lies somewhere in Unity's new input system or the WebGL stack. After some digging online, it seems like there might be some bugs regarding mouse deltas, which we use to drive the camera controls. Unfortunately, fixing it would require switching out the input system module, which could have unintended side effects on the rest of the game :(

UMBRELLA REVENGE by SAGIII 2022-10-06T03:47:21Z

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL artwork and sound design! The intro was extremely polished and lovely. I think that last level took me 40 tries but it was worth it to see the custom credits at the end. Great work!

The Great Escape by amarokczukay 2022-10-08T20:16:12Z

First escape room type game I've played this jam - really good take on the theme! The sense of urgency is super real. I really like the color scheme you picked as well. Had a lot of fun playing it - congrats!

Don't mess with my papitas by rascher 2022-10-06T05:23:34Z

My favorite title for a game so far in LD51 - I love it! The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and the game flows well once you get going (and it definitely gets really frantic later on). I had a lot of fun trying to kite 15 slimes around while still planting my lil taters. Nicely done!

Boulder Bash by W4YN3R 2022-10-06T05:46:30Z

Super solid gameplay! The physics for the boulders feels just right. This is a game where I feel like 10 seconds is just the right length for the primary mechanic. I like how the effects are cumulative, so you get to experience the randomness for longer than just 10 seconds. I really liked the audio as well. Great job overall!

No Time For Love by davidtheginger 2022-10-06T04:01:28Z

Really interesting take on the theme! I loved the music and artwork. Frantically trying to read all of the text and react at once was a fun challenge.

Strange Zoo by khaotom 2023-05-05T23:29:05Z

Surreal, in a good way! I honestly didn't really know what I was doing and first... and I didn't really care? I was almost getting more out of just wandering around and looking at the wacky creatures. Once I saw everything I looked at the hints and used those to finish the game. I really liked the different "biomes" and the graphical/musical differences really sold them despite the minimalism. Very weird and very good! I liked it a lot.

Time to Deliver the Mail to Robots by Shooting Them With a Letter, Somehow! by spudboy 2023-05-07T01:56:22Z

Great compo! The difficulty and overall length felt just right. I replayed it to find the last postcard. Well done!

Neural Rot by Angela He 2023-05-07T05:31:36Z

Loved it! The controls were fresh and unique, and they do a great job of selling the feeling of being riddled with infection. The fact that the enemies move around the same way you do was a great immersive touch. I thought that I could cheese the reload mechanic by just mashing the keys, but when I realized it's the same sequence everytime it made so much more sense. The art and music were absolutely on point, and combined created an eerie, mysterious mood that was just lovely. One of my favorites!

Hot Dog Rescue by Roolow 2023-05-07T02:14:33Z

Nice textures and 3D models! The helicopter blade swirling about was a really nice touch. Super tough game - reminds me of trying over and over to win at a claw machine. Nice work!

Virus Load by soundgnome 2023-05-05T21:46:14Z

Really digging the presentation! Very nice "virus" vibes going on, like a combination of ominous and spooky. My favorite part was the animations for each of the different little cells, especially the death animations. The tardigrade was a funny touch too. Nicely done!

Courrier de Souvenirs by MasterProject 2023-05-05T23:18:38Z

So cute! I love narrative takes on themes and this is the best one I've seen so far. The presentation is very cohesive - the graphics/audio/writing all work together very nicely. I chuckled at the Persona 5 reference. Great job!

QWOPcopter by Bytomancer 2023-05-05T22:23:50Z

Tough as nails! I liked the graphics and audio. I was wondering if I could get on top of the building on the second level and ran into the "low signal" message - very clever way to enforce a barrier there!

The Milwaukee Thrift Store by Retrisma 2023-05-06T01:44:41Z

Really funny concept for a game! I liked the diverse cast of customers - I never really knew who was gonna come through the door or what I'd have to offer them. Leaving the Shutterstock logo on everything made me chuckle. Good stuff!

Culling Cards by picross 2023-05-05T22:36:32Z

Wow! Definitely my favorite so far. The graphic style is so dialed in, love it! Very impressed that y'all were able to make a fully functioning card game in such a short time. I like the take on the delivery theme and how you tied it into the booster pack mechanic. I found myself torn between opening packs for options and trying to conserve them for the end. Really well done!

Superbloom by devook 2023-05-06T01:25:45Z

Super cute! I really liked the camera transitions. The flowers were pretty, and the rolling hills were a nice touch too. The sense of scale was just right for making you feel like a bee. Good stuff!

Packet by Defrag 2023-05-04T03:27:54Z

I really liked this take on the theme! The overall vibe is very cohesive and I think you did a great job creating the feeling of pushing packets around. The tools and server load mechanics did a great job of making me think about how to route the packet tactically instead of just mindlessly clicking the fastest path immediately. The tutorial was very welcome feature; I'm always impressed with how much people manage to get done in 48 hrs for a compo. Nice job!

The Blind Pig 🐷 by LittleBlackDog 2023-05-04T02:56:49Z

This one is so cozy! The art was absolutely beautiful and the music set the mood really well. The little voices for each of the characters were really funny. Took me two tries to successfully identify the cop. Really nicely done!

Inconvenient Conveyance by LucDeligne 2023-05-06T01:10:27Z

Really liked the pixel art! The controls took some getting used to but it was fun once I had it down. Nice job!

Reflex Redeemer by Mediflect 2023-05-04T19:05:15Z

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone! I'm glad folks are enjoying the game. I'll do my best to rate and leave feedback on all of your games as well.

@chancea - I really really really wanted to add more music but I ran out of time! The original plan was to have a different track for each set of 6 levels.

@alexsandro - This is good feedback; I did my best to tutorialize through level design but some more explicit explanation of mechanics/strategy probably would have been good.

@cheaptoads - Were you playing on a Mac by any chance? I've heard from a few folks that the levels look kinda glitchy on Mac. As far as filter effects goes, there's a modest amount of vignette/film grain/bloom, and then some lens distortion when you dash. Is that what you were referring to?

Reflex Redeemer by Mediflect 2023-05-05T21:04:55Z

@cheaptoads - Awesome! Thanks for giving it another go. Sorry the first experience was a little rough, I really have no idea what could be causing that. I was just using basic textures and the standard URP lit shader :(

The 50 Deliveries by Alexsandro 2023-05-05T21:39:29Z

I wasn't expecting it to be so spooky! The music and visuals really sell the feeling of being alone trying to finish deliveries late at night. Nice job!

Asteroid Miner by BalimaarTheBassFish 2023-05-07T02:36:49Z

The asteroids looked super good! Like others mentioned the ship is a little finicky to control but I was mostly able to get it to do what I wanted. Honestly not bad at all for a compo that where you lost 25% of the total development time! Based on your comments above it sounds like you got bogged down in asset creation, which is really common when you're starting out. You'll get faster over time!

One piece of advice I'd give is to limit how many brand new skills/unknown things you tackle during the jam. It's really easy to get sucked into rabbit holes and lose sight of the bigger project. You want to be focused on creating content, not figuring out HOW to create the content. For example, for my game, I limited myself to learning three new things: Unity's PlayerPrefs (for save data), Unity's spline package (for rail grinding), and action game movement (jumping, dashing, etc). Everything else I already knew how to do, for the most part anyway.

Skyfail Delivery by DrSlowpokePhd 2023-05-06T01:35:05Z

I really like the visual style! The car was easy and intuitive to control.

Buccaneer Mail co. by ChanceA 2023-05-04T02:39:28Z

I really loved the presentation! The pixel art was top-notch and the sounds fit really well. Lovely aesthetic overall. Great work!

Last Stand Delivery by Sheng Mai 2023-05-07T04:53:09Z

So good! Sokobans aren't usually my thing but this one kept my attention. The difficulty was just the right balance between frustrating and too-easy, and I loved the inclusion of the step-count medals for dedicated players. Easy to grasp but tons of room for depth. The graphics and sounds were very polished and pretty as well, and you even included some narrative scenes too! Great job!

Trooper Support by TheSecondLeft 2023-05-07T02:51:15Z

Took me a little while to understand the controls but chaining dashes together was actually really fun! The artwork was good, and the music was driving and did a ton for establishing the mood of the game. I'd suggest making the transition speed on the meters a little bit faster - it always felt like they were lagging behind what the actual displayed value was supposed to be. That's just a nitpick though - nice job!

Bundles of Joy by MetallicPotato 2023-05-05T21:55:34Z

I laughed out loud when I saw the game over screen! Really funny game overall. Deceptively hard; I had to try it about 5 times to win. I really liked the stork model, especially in the menus. Nice work!

RELEASE THE MEAT by NuiN 2023-05-05T22:55:08Z

Really fun! Great take on the theme. The fact that you have to load the cart at the beginning by dumping the meat into it is a really clever way to prevent players from coming up with degenerate/broken cart designs, since they'll always need a fairly large opening near the top. I enjoyed having tons of money to play around with on the last level. One of my favorites!

Pizza Inspection & Shipping Service by Harrison Jones 2023-05-04T03:15:25Z

I didn't realize until I read another comment here but this really does feel like Papers Please! I really liked all the little humorous touches, like pizzas being $200+ and the vague allusions to a world of scarce pizza. The art was good and easily readable and the audio fit very well. Really well done!

Message Package by IGJH 2023-05-06T02:04:24Z

The character art is really good! I liked the key change in the BGM. The puzzles were interesting too; I think if the character moved a bit faster then the pacing would have been perfect. Nice work!

West Delivery by TheTiredGuy 2023-05-07T02:00:12Z

I liked the animations and artwork! I chuckled at Big Bro's line haha
