I love the aesthetics! Gameplay and mood! The music is so good too! Really polished game! Good job!!
The music slaps and the game is fun. What more could you want?
Fantastic music, and a very cool mechanic!
The music absolutely slaps. Central mechanic is slick and well tuned to the theme. Art style and overall production design on point. The controls are hyper jumpy, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but takes quite a bit of getting used to.
I like the game a lot, I found it very creative! Though I must admit, I raged a little bit in the third stage when I missed the jump at the last part
Really great game! Some of the levels did feel a bit long, and having to replay sections that I have already completed was a bit tedious, however, it was still a really fun game and I would love to see it made into a full game!
Music, graphics, gameplay, all very polished. Definitely a bit on the difficult side, but I definitely had fun. Great entry!
I really liked the alternate paths! The place unstable tiles mechanic was a lot more interesting than I thought It was going to be. Nice music track as well!
Very good art, great music, original gameplay. The game is VERY challenging. If I could make a suggestion it would be for the levels to be a bit shorter so I don't have to replay as much content when I fail near the end (or realize I needed one more pink cube from way earlier). Really love that the controls for movement were very tight and responsive. The look on the pink cube as it's fading is great too.
Excellent work, really cool and great audio.
A banger music and interesting mechanics, I like it! The game is pretty unforgiving and fast paced. I prefer if the blocks stayed little longer and you could take a breather in-between. Also there was one exact camera transition which made placing blocks way too hard, eventually making me quit. Good game none the less.
Enabling full screen option would be dope.
This game's really cool! I loved the aesthetic and the sountrack slaps!I think you should've opted out of the humor category tho
Awesome soundtrack, art and gameplay. What else can I say, an overall great entry!
Loved this game so much, pretty challenging but super fun and a good length. Really minor suggestion would be adding a timer so that if I click with no blocks, but pick up a block immediately after, a block still gets placed. Mostly only relevant on the last level, but it would make that specific mechanic feel a lot smoother. Great soundtrack btw :3
Brilliant music, perfect for the game. Challenging but lots of fun, I see what you mean about coyote timing in your jumping, definitely makes a platformer better so thanks again for the tip.
@bigmancloudy Yeah this is my first ludum dare so I didn't realize you could/should opt out of certain categories. Anyway, thanks for playing!
Mood and audio are awesome, for some reason I found that jump noise incredibly therapeutic. While the game is frustrating when you fail, I absolutely love it - definitely something I'd play in my free time. The concept is fantastic, and the execution is even better. My only gripe is the the movement feels too fast sometimes which results in me dying - so maybe the whole movement system could be polished a little if you expand on this at all. Good Stuff!
Nice platformer !
The game is fun to play, I really like the idea of creating blocks. I don't like controls because I can't jump using space bar and controls are bit sensitive. Maybe add some checkpoints.
@liam, agree, the music fit very well with the game.
Good job !
sweet platforming. Amazing
Very nice mood, absolutely stunning SFX that are in one tonality with music, bravo for that! It could be perfect if controls were even better, but it's really difficult to do on Game Maker Studio, so excellent! Thank you for this game!
Awesome game! The sound is great!
I found the jump really difficult. It's uncomfortable for me to try and jump with the up key or W. Also the physics were tough to aim -- Sometimes platformers will have a light normal gravity, but then apply extra force to the player when the player is moving down. This gets you that bit of float time for aiming the landing while still feeling weighty and I think this game would have benefited a lot from that.
As others have said, I also think the checkpoints are too infrequent for how difficult the gameplay is.
Overall just a really interesting game. I love the idea for the mechanic where you collect and place blocks for a true platformer. It reminds me of playing terraria and trying to place the block at just the right time to get somewhere. Tweaking the collisions to feel good with the block placement must have been a nightmare. There's so many different cases to take into account, based on player position relative to everything else.
Just a really solid game.
I love being able to plan out how to use my blocks and then having to be quick to execute my plan. I thought it was really smart not having the blocks start to disappear on placement, so that you get the satisfaction of both the planning and execution aspects of the game. The music is really nice and makes me want to play for a long time. :)
The music in this is amazing! really like the block pick up and place mechanic but wish there was checkpoints earlier on. Maybe thats just me liking my hand holding haha but a really great game. One improvement I would say is maybe having different types of blocks? Could be a cool idea!
Awesome mechanic. Visually great and it's a ton of fun. Def a bit hard and made me wish for checkpoints when I missed that final jump lmao.
Im a fan of this game, I like the art, art is a big thing in games for me. Mechanics also are pretty good, overall pretty good!
Great job! The music, sfx, and controls were all wonderful
Polished game, controls are precise, which, along with added mechanics of adding blocks, makes it really fun to play. Would like to have frequent checkpoints though :D
Is this really your first LD game? Very impressive. Some smart design decisions here: collect block to use them and have them expire only if you step on them to demand more responsiveness from the player. Great entry!
@squeg-inc Yeah the physics/movement could definitely be improved. I made the platforming mechanics pretty quickly so I could focus on the block placement aspect (specifically making sure they align to the grid), and at a certain point I decided it was good enough since there was so much else to do lol. If I decide to expand and polish up this project focusing on making the platforming feel really good will be a priority.
Cool game. Interesting level design.
@binaryprinciple Thank you so much! I've done two smaller game jams over the course of 2020/2021, but this is my first time doing ludum dare.
@tattomoosa I did consider adding space as an option for jumping, but then got busy doing other things and never got around to it. Adding space for jump and checkpoints at the start of each room are some improvements I would do if I decide to expand on Dreampoint Collapse in the future.
The game is very challenging, I can imagine streamers speed running.
@nulldreams oh my gosh I would absolutely love that!
It was fun though the controls sometimes didn't feel as responsive as I would have liked. The game eventually became frustrating but was overall a fun experience.
another game using unstable tool to complete the game. It's good game.
Impressively fleshed out level design and core mechanics! The game can be very harsh at times (especially when playing a level for the first time), but at the same time does an excellent job at motivating you to begin anew. Very refreshing take and aesthetically pleasing! Great job!
interesting concept, good old games in new interpretations
Cool idea with block mechanic
Great work here the music is fantastic and the art direction really ties everything together. The level design is well thought out that gives the game an overall difficult but fair feeling.
The negatives I think the jump speed and the gravity speed a too strong. I think a slower fall speed would have let the player have alot more control. Also the limited amount of squares you need to place felt a bit too tight since alot of the additional squares relied on you having to use a square to get to or were hard to get too.
Aside from that amazing work I had a blast playing!
Lovely game, well done! Rather tough tho. I love the mood, that outline with your art design was really interesting.
Difficult and fun! Really coherent visual style and simple, fun concept to basically edit the levels as you play. One minor thing I wished for while playing was for spacebar to also activate jump, since I have a lot of muscle memory for that from other games it feels more intuitive. Anyway, cool game!
I really like the concept of being able to manipulate and place platforms in a platforming game. However 2 things for me felt frustrating, the jump felt like I dropped like a sack of bricks once I let go of either side movement keys, and missing a jump might mean I soft locked the level due to not having enough pink block resources. That being said, the difficulty felt hard but the game is consistent and fair even if punishing. I did enjoy the game overall, solid entry.
One of my favorites so far! It's tough, but in a very fair and interesting way. Once I realized I could pre-plan my block placements I felt like my brain expanded a little bit. My only nitpick is that I would have appreciated having jump also bound to the space bar, but that's just my personal preference. Overall it was great!
I liked the game. Interesting mechanics and a good challenge. The music is very pleasant and creates a mood.
Great graphics, sound and mood.
Idea is very good as well, but the game is too unforgiving. Unforgiving as in not only hard but also makes you spend too much time going through same places to get back where you were. And some situations just say "ok, you can kill yourself now". But that's just me, someone else would probably find that enjoyable. All in all, great graphics and movement feels smooth, I couldn't get very far but it was a pleasure to give it a spin.
I liked the concept, but I really would have enjoyed the game much more if there was some sort of reset on the blocks or something that would allow for some sort of mistakes to be allowed. The physics you chose to go with a very unforgiving. The infinite acceleration with the high max velocity makes controlling the player responsive but stopping at specific areas very difficult, and that is what most of your game relies on. I think the game would be much more enjoyable for us non twitch gameplay gamers if you slowed everything down and gave the player a little more float on the jump to make the precision jumping easier. Maybe the twitch gameplay is what you were going for though. Just know that it doesn't appeal to everyone
I'm not trying to be overly critical! The puzzle elements were fun and figuring out the best way to place your limited supply of blocks to overcome challenges was enjoyable. Graphics were simple but conveyed exactly what everything was perfectly. You clearly designed the levels well and knew exactly how far apart the player can jump and where to place blocks, so nice work there!
Cool game! I like the block-placing mechanic a lot, and the platforming puzzles felt very polished and ramped up in a reasonable way. I really liked that there were branching paths sometimes! Visuals are very clean, and the music is nice.
The character's physics made the game pretty challenging overall, I died multiple times in the tutorial and even by the end I was still having trouble landing exactly where I wanted to after a jump. Personally I kinda like the platforming challenge, it makes the gameplay a combination of both careful planning and good execution. But I can see how potentially frustrating that could be to other people too, so it's a tough balance. Great submission either way!
