That was fun! The movement felt a little sloppy, maybe because it always moved exactly one unit in some direction. It was also a cool idea, a dungeon crawler with a time limit. I hate time limits in games, too stressful :smirk:

Overall, very cool game. Managed to survive till year 1070!

VARY FUN

The writing in the game is its strongest suit. I wish I had a bit more time to read it, without constantly racing the clock. I like the general vibe and I like the quotes you've written.

I hesitate to brand this game a roguelite, or a roguelike, or a god-game. Mechanically, it's really nothing more than a maze with a time limit, shader, and some collectibles along the way. Not that there's anything wrong with that. As I said, the writing carries this title - having simple mechanics is very much justified and desirable. I just don't think you need to up-sell your game with the genres you mentioned (though I understand that you were trying to fit under LD41's theme here).

The graphics weren't particularly difficult to read, but if I could change anything I'd like the exits and collectibles to contrast a little more from the walls and floors. I skipped past most of level 4 because I didn't notice I was walking into an exit.

My final score was 2190 years with a peak of 3435 followers.

@Eldemarkki Thanks for the feedback, I updated the movement slightly so that there a little bit less pressing of keys involved ;).

@amras0000 Thanks for the extensive review! I can understand the contrast issues, had some trouble with it without ruining the color-mood, but I'll be more careful next time.

The idea went well with the writing, I chuckled at the little tidbits that went along with the events, the only problem is that I didn't really have time to read anything, as I had to constantly be on the move. If you make the game pause while you aren't moving, that would let people enjoy your humor!

Well done!

Good job. My biggest complain is the tile based movement.

devemil 2018-04-23 21:30

Interesting game, I don't like the movement though, because it feels so delayed. It has a good sense of humor though :D So, maybe next time, take care of the smoothness. Btw, the game I made, was my first one too, go and take a look! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/secrets-of-the-forest

nice game. got 4544 followers on year 1770, on lvl 7 and 8 it got really difficult to keep alive.

bitten-toast-games 2018-04-24 11:30

Interesting game, I'm in the same boat as @Jaime Paz Lopes, at lvl 7/8 it was really difficult to stay alive. Having the drops give more followers would be nice. I wasn't able to read the quotes on the bottom, maybe making it drain your followers only when you move would fix that? Not sure though, in the end great start. :)

The movement felt a bit jittery but overall kinda fit! I got something like 1572 followers at my peak and reached level 7! I think you did well in all the categories! Except for sounds but that's ok! Nice job! :)

tmvant 2018-04-25 07:33

@Bitten Toast Games Pausing time when not moving sounds like a good idea yeah! It was something I couldn't quite put my finger on this time, but I'll definately keep that in mind for a next time :).

alobker 2018-04-25 15:23

Very well done. I enjoyed this game very much.

I have a B.A. in philosophy, so I enjoyed the whole idea and execution of this game. The quotes at the bottom, what you gained and lost followers for. Nice, unique entry.

was moving too fast to read the flavor text

The concept and the theming of your game is really interesting, I love how every mechanic is centered around the theme of religion and belief, it's very well made. The game itself is quite simple, it deserve to be expanded with more mechanics, maybe ennemies ? But anyway, I enjoyed playing it for a while, so good job !

tmvant 2018-04-27 14:57

@Toulou thanks for the review! :) I definately think that the roguelite part can be expanded on with enemies or traps or something. Didn’t have time for it this time, so maybe next time :)

mathiouza 2018-04-27 16:45

Cool game, but maybe you should make a gameover screen ^^ The concept is cool though. It lacks a music obviously to make the game more stressful.

Nice entry, keep coding :)

winniehell 2018-04-28 18:30

Nice idea! The game could benefit from a smoother movement (animation) and some sound/music. It's not quite clear to me what genres were mixed here.

Also thank you for playing our game and leaving such positive feedback! :-)

Hmm... interesting concept. The flavor text was a nice touch!

Hi there. Thanks for the game, I wish the movements were a bit smoother but that's a good start.

@JackLeHamster thanks for the review! Interesting to see the performance issues when you play it. On my system I didn't have that problem whatsoever (it's not really doing any heavy lifting), so it's definitely something to look out for next time :).
