Nice game and idea 5/5!!! Good luck!!!
Hilarious. Great choice of genres for the theme.
That was fanastic! Needs audio, some more feedback for actions, and more commands. That was really fun, even if I got my armies routed and returned to HQ in defeat. Thanks for submitting. I was the field commander and it felt really good. You get to feel the power when you type "Fire" and press enter while screaming "DIE FOOLS!". It was a good time.
At first the controls were pretty clunky but when I got the hang of it it was pretty fun! I would suggest a cooldown on the "Fire!" command though, the enemy army got decimated obliterated by my soldiers when I had a clear shot.
I was pleasantly surprised with this, had a lot of depth to the combat I wasn't expecting! Wish it had a bit more feedback, audio or effects, but I can understand if you ran out of time! Well done!
Yup, a lot more depth here than I was expecting. I love that the theme carries through to the visuals - going all in with the setting like that really makes it come together.
I wasn't able to play the webgl version of the game (didn't register my inputs), but fortunately the downloadable version of the game worked fine! As someone with fairly bad typing accuracy it was pretty difficult, but I enjoyed myself. The controls were clunky at first, but it was a lot easier to play as I got to memorize the commands. It would be great if the game had some audio, but I enjoyed the game a lot. Good job!
Interesting Idea. All the strategy commands are pretty awesome. I felt be in a civil war but against with microchips hahahaha
Pretty fun game like the concept. Sometimes the commands would lag or be slow. I dont know if this was on purpose but it kind of got annoying. Anyway nice game
It was quite hard initially to understand all these commands. But also I think you provided a the right difficult at each level so it wasn't so overwhelming. I started thinking it would be a lame game, and finished all the levels wanting more. Really creative idea actually, the limitation on control made it look more like a puzzle, in a good way. The only similar game I thought of was There Came an Echo (which I didn't play). The letters were also really small to read in a big resolution, but no big deal. Overall, really fun.
Edit: Oh, also the Webgl version doesn't seem to work here too. Maybe if it's a general problem you may want to take it down so other people don't think the game is bugged.
Thanks for all the feedback! I'll be looking into the WebGL version soon. If you get the chance could you tell me what browser you are using @sohakes and @Arun Donti ?
Cool! Definitely took a bit to get the hang of but once I did it was really fun. I got a bit thrown off at the beginning thinking that the army on the left was mine. Everything being so small made it hard to figure out which way the individual units were facing, but eventually I got over that too. I wish there were a command to form a line without changing direction - in a couple of the levels (I think the one where you start out sandwiched between two armies) it kept on facing the army I didn't want to target. Despite these issues it was still a lot of fun to figure out each level like it were a little tactics puzzle. Maybe it's time to read up on my Sun Tzu :P Nice work!
Sure @Ryan-Koning, Chrome here, version 65.0.3325.181 (looks like it's outdated, maybe that's the problem).
**PROS:** Typing for your life! Controls are varied and interesting. Soldiers' movements are surprisingly organic for a jam game (nice!)
**CONS:** No training wheels - jump right in and use all commands.
**OVERALL:** This is an excellent spin on an unusual concept. It's fun and it doesn't look like anything else I've seen during this jam. It's easy to imagine a cruder version of this game doing just fine, but the graphics, controls, and polish make this an impressive jam game.
You really had a great idea for a theme! Good job guys! I just wished that there was more levels. I think that the game was really fun, and you guys should keep working on this for post LD versions.
I would like to see some other kind of graphics, like little troops in a battlefield with larger maps, different units and such! Because this game idea is great, and if you guys work had, you can make money out of this.
Haha this was a really interesting take on the theme, very well done!
I'm really loving these text-based games! The only criticism I have is the lack of ability to turn less than 90 degrees. Other than that, it was a great game. Spamming fire got a bit tough though, guess I need to get better at typing.
one my favorite in LD-41.
I really like this game!
**Positive:** - I like the concept, the idea and the implementation.
**Negative:** - For me the font and letters were a little bit to small and hard to read, also in full screen. - Music and sounds would be nice and round out the game.
Nice! Reminded me of old civil war tactics games. Good job! On my high rez screen the text was hard to read, but once I had the basics, I didn't need to read any more.
At last my typing-skill came handy! Nice concept, Well done! :v:
The style of this is really nice. There's a couple of other typing games for this ld but this one is really intuitive and smooth, and I really like the style of having the game take place on a tabletop.
This is brilliant and seems to have a lot of depth. I kept getting killed on the level where they start on either side of you. I agree with the sentiment that having the ability to turn at something other than 90 degrees would be nice. Overall I'm amazed you made something of this quality for the jam.
I have never typed "fire" so fast 🙂. I said to check it for a bit and ended up playing half an hour 😋. Amazing job!
P.S. Had issue on Web GL version too but after I restarted Chrome and latest update was applied it was resolved
For some reason the WebGL version didn't work on Firefox (can't press 'Y' to start) so I didn't rate. Other WebGL Unity games have been running fine for me. I'm wondering if it's because it's embedded in a frame or something.
This is pretty neat! It's definitely a bit hard to control your troop well, and I had some trouble seeing what was going on - everything felt very zoomed out. Nice game though!
Loved the concept and implementation but maybe you should have cut some levels and try to use that time to add sound.
Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUzNw0b6qtc
