I like the graphics and the atmosphere, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. This would be cool if this was expanded upon.
Fun little game! No real gripe with it. I love the personality you added to the game by making the skeleton and boss man relatable.
Really cool idea. I love "Twump" being the monster. :3 Good job!
Good stuff. Enjoyed the nice take on the theme. :)
Nice use of the theme. :) Fun little game.
A good start, would love to see where you take this.
Frustrating at times, but fun. Love the art style. :)
Wow! Best game I've seen so far. Cool way to use the theme.
Graphics look alright but would be improved if the colors were brighter. Fun game to play while I was installing some software though. c:
Dang you guys. That was FANTASTIC. Love everything about this game! Makes me want to create a homage game to GameBoy. Also bgm_Calm may just be the best thing I've heard today.
One thing I think would help would be a better way of knowing when an enemy has been hit. It seems a little vague.
Make a bigger version of this game! PLEASE.
Oh no! I'm sorry that happened!
Thanks for all the responses guys. The feedback is incredibly helpful.
Thanks for the play through, guys. It was really awesome to watch! :)
@Omiya Games: I like those criticisms! Looking back, I should have added multiple endings and worked the buttons to be less random. I intended to have sound effects added in, but I ran short on time (even though I still submitted to the Jam). Thank you so much!
I have the same problem as aberdeenphoenix. Which is a damn shame because I wanted to play this! Will try later.
Cool idea. Controls are fine for me. My recommendation is a larger playing area. I think the game feels a little clustered as is. That aside, I still enjoyed myself.
I noticed that once I reached over 100 points the counter started over at 1. Is this a bug?
@Gil4
Ah I just realized what happened. No bug at all. I was misreading numbers (like a fool) thought I had a much higher score than I did.
Sorry to make you run tests and dig through code at my expense!
What a fun little game. I enjoy the art and the humor. Also, solid idea for the theme. I dig it.
Would be improved with a line of sight of people. But I enjoyed it. Nice stuff. You could take this further into a pretty fun game. :)
I like the runner idea mixed with the theme, but I feel like if you are going to have a point system, especially one where missing blue dots counts more than acquiring them, then the game should have more draw distance or the view should be larger so players can see the dots and prepare for them. Definitely a fun idea though.
Holy moly! So GOOD! I loved that. :) My only complaint is the lack of audio, but everything was amazing.
Great job! Love the art. Much better than mine. :P
What a cool game! This looks like a game that would have taken me weeks or months to make, not 72 hours. I know there were two creators, but that is still impressive!
The gameplay is fun and unique from what I've seen so far in the Jam. The shadow form reminds me a bit of Mark of the Ninja. I do have one complaint: during the tower climb, there is an area with walljumping that is pretty difficult. That is fine, but the same black screen text appears every time I spawn. Makes it frustrating. A player wants to get right back to playing the game after dying, not waiting around for the same part of the story to repeat itself.
That aside, you guys have a quality product here.
Fun game. Borrows a little bit from Orbital Gear, but I still enjoyed it. Controls are a bit hard, but once you get used to them it's no problem. Good stuff!
Nice game! I like the humorous spin you took with the theme. Also mad respect for that art.
Finally got the net to check this out and rate it. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is fun. This is a good idea, guys! You should run with this and make a bigger game (and get some coin).
Overall fun and appealing. Good job!!
WOW! Gotta love a game where you feel like a total badass. Good controls, cool design, really FUN. The art is good too.
Sad story. Poor Mr. Monster. :(
Fun game. Enjoyed the hunting aspect of the game. Fit the theme well (obviously). Couple gripes with it: once I have set off the alarm, the alarm sound continues to play, even if I start a new game. Also, if I kill someone with the "T" key, it doesn't count towards my kill score. Which is sadness. Other than that, cool stuff!
Very pretty game. I love the humor too. The gameplay is a little confusing, and it is short. Still, nice work!
Cool idea. I love the art style and the music. Stephen's voice could be louder. :P Enjoy your well deserved slumber.
Good game. Loved the art style and the gameplay. Shooting them arrows felt rewarding. Sad ending is sad. :(
Couldn't get past the first level. Interesting idea though.
Not a bad start. The graphics are jarring with the blurred images. Controls are a little wonky as well, but the idea is fun and the game works!
Good job. :)
Cool concept! This is the kinda thing I wanna see when the theme is "You are the monster." Also good design with the cat as a way of protecting the kid if you get caught. Great job!
Fun little game. I did have one of the jacks get stuck on a beanstalk and he wouldn't move. Still, enjoyed myself.
I love the beam effect. Reminds me of playing Lux in URF mode.
Audio would have been nice. Good stuff.
Controls could use some work. Would be nice to move forwards OR backwards instead of constantly forwards with left and right tilt. Still fun though! Burn all the things. >:3
Nice game! Was fun to play for a bit. :) POSEIDON'S FART!
I like it. The random spawn of Theseus is frustrating though. Having health or more lives or having him spawn a set distance from the play would help.
Great job!
Good graphics. I enjoyed the gameplay too. And holy cow those stars are gorgeous. I think it would be awesome if the enemy bullets looked different from the ones the player fires. It's hard fighting them otherwise. Still good stuff.
Fun idea. The game is kinda meh with the theme, but the gameplay itself was very fun. Impressive for 72 hours. Feels like a full game.
I like the graphics and the sound effects. I could not get past one of the jumps in the game, so I'm not really sure what the rest of the game looks like.
Those graphics are amazing! :D Audio could have used some work (the narration was a little quiet), but I enjoyed that. Sad ending too.
This game was amazing. Maybe one of the best I've seen. Even though there is little gameplay, the emotion, story, mood, and art are ALL AMAZING. Well done! I went through as much of the story as I could, but I bet I still missed stuff.
Also, I think this would be a great game to expand on. Make it bigger, with more options. Add in a narrator (Logan Cunningham from Bastion?) with some music and more endings. Just a thought. I'd pay for a game like that.
Great stuff.
Fun, hilarious game. Found myself playing this longer than I thought I would.
Nice game. I like the mechanics, as there is this constant drive to get hearts. But by doing so you create problems for yourself. And then the energy bar adds so much more on top of that.
Great job!
It's always amazing to me how even the simplest of stories/games can have some of the biggest impacts emotionally on an individual. Great job.
If you wanted to carry this further, I think it could be cool to have the story intermixed with some gameplay. Just an idea.
Gave high points for humor. Really funny. :) I love the chat boxes, and I also loved when one of the college peeps walked into a room with a dead body and the chat box read ":D". Hahah!
The random AI was a bit annoying at times, but not too bad. I did notice that after a while the roof to the house returned and I couldn't see inside the building. A bug?
Cool game. I love these types of games. :) You should take this further and add different difficulties which affect how many points you have/get.
Graphics were super good, and the controls were okay. Not sure how to win or if there even is winning. Just survive as long as possible I guess. Good job.
I think this game uses both themes perfectly. Amazing work! I know you didn't make the audio, but it fits nicely as well, so good job choosing it. Anyway, the art is awesome, the gameplay feels nice (teleporting is super rewarding). I also think this would be a great game for mobile or built further for sites such as Kongregate. Good luck! :)
That was fun! Nice work! And dang those graphics are nice. Good luck!
Nice work man! Fun little time killer. Reminds me a bit of Spore or Flow (which isn't a bad thing). I enjoyed how the enemies are you changed depending on the phase you were in.
Suuuuper good mood. Nice narrative submission! And the audio was really well done. :) Good work!
The graphics are nice, as is the atmosphere and the mood. A very nice start to something greater. I do think the delay in the cursor is a problem because it is hard to be as precise as possible to slice up the baddies.
That said, I do like the idea of balancing the meditating with the space bar and using the mouse to kill the spirits. Good work.
Interesting idea. Very hard to control, but I understand why. I like how the beetle can only use its wings when right-side up. Also the mood is set well for a weird reason. I kinda dig it. Graphics were nice too.
But I couldn't finish it. The controls were too awkward for me.
Good work!
@Soka: what do you mean enter to the menu? You mean to select mechanics?
@HuvaaKoodia: Thanks for the critique! It's great to get differing opinions on my game. :)
I don't think you need to have a way to lose to have a game. That doesn't really make sense nowadays. There are many games nowadays where you don't lose. Stanley's Parable, FEZ, Thomas Was Alone, I could literally keep going on and on here. These games are more experiences to be had rather than an objective to beat.
With that in mind, we get to your second point. At no point in the development of this game did I want to make this a puzzle game. I even admit that these levels are not puzzles, even if others refer to them as such. The "guess the two actions" level was just meant as a fun relief from the usual stuff in the game. But, like I said, I wasn't intending to make a puzzle game here. I was trying to make a gaming experience instead of an objective to beat. I like objective games, don't get me wrong. But the games that stick with me the most are the experience games. And I wanted to share that with others.
I do think adding more actions is a must. I originally had 6 planned, but had to scrap 2 due to time. I like your other suggestions too, except the limiting of changing actions. But it's certainly something I could try.
Thanks for the input.
@Donar: I was actually wondering how international keyboards would impact the experience in the game. I'm sorry that it was so awkward to play. I'll have to take that into account next time.
I don't think having one key to do actions and the other to switch actions would have worked quite well in *this* game, but it would work well in something with less physics. Because the player will need to jump and move left or right at the same time in multiple parts of the game, it would be very hard to do so with the method you have mentioned. And yes, I think your keyboard issue made the mouse play feel weird. It feels very natural to me to play it like it is. But I'm only using on hand on the keyboard. :P
Thanks for the input sir.
@Jwatt:
I agree that you should be able to drag a new mechanic over an old one. I actually wanted to put this in the game, but I couldn't get it to work just right and had to remove it to focus on other things. I'm sorry it's a nuisance, but the whole click and drag system was something new for me in terms of code. I had never done it before this game, which means I spent an already large amount of time on it compared to an experience dev.
Are you siding with HuvaaKoodia by saying you think my game is in fact not a game? That's fine if you are saying that, but I will have to disagree with both of you. Since HuvaaKoodia's original comment about it, I have thought a lot about the issue. And I've come to the conclusion that it is still a game to me. But, like I said, that's fine if you don't agree.
I'm sorry the levels were not more interesting or challenging to you. I did want to create a more challenging experience, but time got in the way again and thwarted my efforts. I'm still very new at this, and I feel it's a huge enough accomplishment alone that I made a working, functional game in 48 hours. And there's absolutely no reason why this game or a game similar to it shouldn't have more challenges in the future. I'm new at level design, and with the time restraints that unfortunately resulted in boring and linear levels.
Also, a video that sums up my opinion on the "language" issue here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgu76ql6FSo
Okay, this one might be my favorite so far. It's so chill and calm and has a great atmosphere, audio, and graphics. And it's a compo game?! Seriously, good freakin' work here. I love this.
This is, like, the third game in a row where I've been like "yeah, this is the best game I've played so far for LD34." Good lord man, that was fun. I love the art. It's SO GOOD. The audio is nice, the idea is both hilarious, fun, and unique for the theme. And I just cannot get over how much I enjoy the beard animation as you move and jump. Good work, 5/5.
Interesting. I like your take with this. It's more interactive than your general fictional digital novel. I would actually be interested in playing and even buying a bigger version of a game like this. With better art and more of a story, it'd be cool. Good job.
These graphics are superb. Well done! The gameplay is interesting. I like the mechanic you have included to "add" more sheep. ;) Also, those "baaaa" sound effects made me laugh every time. Good stuff!
Nice game. I think it is super cute and has some interesting mechanics. I wish I could scroll forward to advance at my own right so I could explore faster, but it's quite good for what it is. Great work!
Very gorgeous game with nice graphics and audio. Sets a good mood. I like that you added map generation. Feels a bit like Don't Starve, but it definitely needs more gameplay for the style the game is going for. Good work! I plan on digging through the source to learn a thing or two. :)
Couldn't get the hang of the space mechanic. I kept speeding off into oblivion. From the screen shots, it looks the player is supposed to dodge cubes, but I never encounter them. Tried both the Windows and Web version.
I do enjoy the perspective of the game though. I think it looks nice.
After coming back and reading the note you added, I can see cubes! I think the dashing back and forth between the two rows is very fun. Good luck!
Can't rate high on innovation, and the game doesn't fit the theme, but it works and is fun. Good work, and best of luck with your other games.
Interesting take on the theme(s). I would love if there was more control instead of it being random. Also, this might just be me but this game was slowing down my system a ton when I had it running. Still, the idle game idea behind it has promise and could be cool if more was done with it.
Good job!
Nice, good take on the theme. I like how creative you guys were with using both of the themes. The level-wrap around is interesting, I'm sure I could use it better but it was annoying at first. I still enjoyed it. Good work!
This is great! You did a fantastic job with this. At first, I was like "mannnn one of these games..." then you showed me up by adding a lot of interesting spins to the game. Good job!
Good game. A nice start for something that could be bigger. Graphics were fantastic, gameplay was fun, and the mood and atmosphere were well established. My only complaint is that I wish there was a way to click and drag to move the camera instead of it being locked in place. Or maybe a WASD control to move the camera around.
Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't talking about rotating the camera. I'm aware you can rotate it. I meant actually moving it around. Good game nonetheless!
Nice game! Controls were hard, but in a game with only two buttons, things are bound to be hard. ;) I enjoyed it though. Each level, even the "tutorial" levels feel like good accomplishments once you beat them. I also like the idea of have a fuel limit, even though it is a little bit nullified by the restart button. Good job!:)
Controls are kinda wonky, but you said this game was bad. REAL bad. Like, in your post or whatever. And I actually kinda liked it. Good work.
Good stuff, Shaun. Looks like something that would need more than 48 hours to make. Haha. I think a map would be nice, but other than that nice work!
Nevermind about the map. I just noticed it in the ZIP. Nice touch! :)
There were a lot of things that were great about this game. I love the graphics. They remind a bit of Gunpoint in a way. I also love the audio. But there are a lot of cursor bugs that make the game hard, and it is confusing to know what to do sometimes. With more work though, I think this could be a fun little game. Good work!
Nice. I had a hard time controlling it at first, but after a bit I got the hang of it. Still a little awkward controlling with the arrow keys for me, but I still like it and it looks good. Great job.
Lag makes it quite hard to play. The evolution system would be cool once you finally add it. It's a nice start. I wish you would let us rate graphics, but the animation is actually good and pleasing. Anyway, if you need more time for the next LD, try submitting to the Jam. I did my project by myself as well and still submitted to the Jam. It gives you more time, and is still allowed!
Okay, this is stupidly fun. Good work. :) And nice use of both themes. I played another snowballer game this LD already, but this is the superior one.
Nice game! Really pretty even if you didn't do the art. I think a bigger version with other kinds of mushrooms would be a fun game!
I do wish I could change direction mid-air while jumping. But it's not a big deal. :P Good job!
The graphics and audio are nice. The idea is interesting, but could be better implemented. It's also rather hard and confusing at first. Has good promise. Nice work.
Cool game! I'll have to try this with my roommate. :) My favorite things in games is messing around and seeing what abilities and mechanics are available. So naturally, I loved this. Good job!
This is well done. I love the nice art, and it's a fun little game. Good job with the two button controls. Would love some Audio, but it's a great start! :)
Careful! You might get some people not calling this a game! :P I don't feel that way though. I kinda like this. The whole mood and atmosphere is great. I do wish there was more to play, but this is a good start to something great. Good work!
Nice little game. I dig it. Would be easier (for me) to control if you didn't have to hold down arrow key for so long before needing to drop. It allows you to plan ahead, sure, but I think an immediate response might be better.
Either way, great job!
Two out of the three endings gave me good chills. Very creepy! I like it. :) I think adding some nice visuals with the story (pixel art even) would add a TON to it. Still, you set up a good mood and story. Good job!
Interesting concept. As it is, it's incredibly hard. But still fun. I find myself enjoying exploring the landscape more than gathering gifts. Haha.
Something that would make it a little easier for me would be holding the space bar to shrink instead of tapping it. Otherwise, nice entry!
Okay. This is the best game I've seen yet. I'm keeping this one for later to show my roommate. Good freakin' job. Love it!
I really enjoy all the different types of ammo you get. I enjoy exploring those things in games, and I'm glad you added them in. The music was amazing. The art was amazing. The game was just great you guys.
Also, I LOVE THOSE CHEATS. So much fun! Btw, sword plus cats = best combo ever. Thanks for making this guys! :D
Definitely needs more work, but isn't a bad start. Some things that would help if you're going to show this to more people:
1. Put the controls somewhere. Anywhere. It's frustrating getting hit by enemies and not knowing how to fight back.
2. I think enemies should not be allowed in the shop. It'd help with decision making while you're in there.
3. I died and the game crashed. Not sure if this is a one time thing or not, but something to look into.
Good job.
Freakin' amazing work for 8 hours. Nice pixel art, good audio. The control idea for this is interesting. It's hard and frustrating, but rewarding and fun when you can get it right. Great job!
Third snowball roller I've played in this competition, yet this one is still unique and fun. Good work. I enjoyed myself. :)
I like the combination of snake and asteroids. It fits super well within our theme combo this LD. Only thing I would want added in would be some sweet tunes. Sound design is nice though. Good work!
Nice game, but very confusing at the start which can be unnecessarily frustrating. Still, good use of the theme, nice graphics, good music, interesting gameplay.
I think it'd be cool if the two sections (left and right) were connected somehow. Story-wise or something. I dunno...
A little confusing at first, but once you get it it's a blast. Funny, good audio and graphics. Great work again you guys! Can't wait to see what you make next LD. :)
I really like this game! I love 2.5D, RTS-style games. :) I would LOVE to see a bigger version of this game. I'd probably lose hours to it. Good work!
Nice idea. I like all the mini-games associated with the them. Works really well here. Graphics are nice too. Good work!
So tired of playing snake....
Interesting idea. I also spammed both mouse buttons. Doesn't seem to be a point to each individual button so I don't think the theme works too well here. Graphics are nice though, and the humor is good. Nice work.
Would love to see this grow into something more. This could be great on mobile, for example. Anyway, even though the levels weren't difficult, it was still fun and enjoyable watching the ripples take effect.
Good stuff!
Nice little game. And congrats on your first LD entry! It's a great feeling, isn't it? :)
I like the audio and the art style a bit. Game was a tad confusing at first, but still enjoyable. Also, as a head's up: when using Game Maker, you can just send your project file for source code instead of putting all your code into a text file. Saves you some time!
Cool stuff! Game maker devs unite! Haha. :) I really like this game! Good work. Great fun with nice graphics. Audio was aight, but not annoying or anything. Also, good idea with the theme.
I just want to say that I tried to see how big I could get and I got so large that the game had me "start" again at the spawn point but all my progress was saved. Interesting little bug.
Not a bad start, but definitely needs work. Not just asset work, design and control work as well. But, like I said, it isn't bad. You made a game! That's pretty exciting.
Couple of things I'd do to improve it:
1. Title screen audio is WAY too loud compared to the game audio.
2. The level where you have to jump up the stairs and it feels. Like. It. Takes. For. Ever? Yeah. Don't do too much of that. That's not something that's fun, especially if you die and have to do. It. Again.
Cool idea. I like the use of multiple 2 button controls. :) I'll have to try and find a buddy to play with though (like my roomie). A little hard on your own, but with two people I bet it'd be great! Nice work!
Nice. Good first game jam entry. I dig it. Good art, simple and fun. Suggestion for the music: have more things going on in it. The same melody over and over again does get a little grating, and other voices and rhythms and chords would help.
Also, in Game Maker, the source is actually a .GMZ file, not the .GMX. Not a big deal, though. :)
You should be proud of this. It's very fun. I love solving 3d puzzles. Always feels like you're actually there. Fun game!
Not bad. Hehe... poop.
I liked the graphics a lot, and the music wasn't terrible (less repetition would be awesome, but the quality, mood, and melody were all nice). And of course, this game is pretty funny. Good job.
Kind of hard to get used to at first, but it's fun when you get momentum going. Physics seem to be a bit weird. Also, for the sake of ease, a quick way to exit the game would be fantastic next time round (played it in 1920 x 1080 and had to ctrl alt del to get out).
Fun to play, good take on the theme, sound effects are really nice although some music would be stellar. Good work though! And THANK YOU for adding a map! :)
Great job on your first jam, man! I like the facial expressions and screams from all the dudes as they run away from you. Haha. And the music in the background is pretty sweet too. :) It is hard to stay alive with the humans spread out as far as they are, but still I enjoyed it.
Nice idea! I love the wrap around for the runner genre. Good work. :)
Very innovative. Like, I don't think I've ever played something quite like that before. It was super hard, and I didn't get far, but the idea is solid. Audio would be nice but I can understand the limitations during a game jam. Also, it'd be neat if we could automatically skip the intro if we die after the game has originally started. I literally died 3 times in a row due to officers spawning right next to me. I'm not salty though, I promise. ;)
Good stuff! Best of luck.
Good level design, story, idea with the theme/mechanics. The audio is good, although the "succeed" a level sound effect is too quiet compared to everything else.
My main complaint is how hard it is to actually beat this. It definitely takes some practice, which is cool. But I think if gravity would automatically shift mid-air when pressing 'Z', this game would be much more enjoyable. It would also be more like changing gravity and less like being on a ice skating ring.
Anyway, great job! :)
Interesting game. Lots of things going on in one which is cool. I think it'd look better if the clouds were a part of the background instead of in the foreground (or, like if some were in the background and some in the foreground). Good job!
Hey, nice start! I like how the player sprite has a small delay to following your mouse. Makes it feel organic in a way. I like that the art is fuzzy, but think it would be cool if the art got fuzzier or darker the more despair you have and clearer and brighter the more hope you have.
Also, this game references the topic of depression in an interesting way. Never give up hope. Good work!
Really fun game. Best I've played so far. I like the micro-managing aspect of all the followers. It's really fun. And then trying to protect and move them, and even use them to solve puzzles. It's great. Would love to see this as a bigger game.
Some things to consider should you wish to continue working on the game:
1. Show last bosses health
2. Add a restart level into the game
3. Add upgrades for the player and maybe different kinds of followers
4. Consistent art style
Also, a bug that happened to me was I got almost all of the followers in the game and my demon grew too big for the room. I couldn't jump or get to the final boss on that playthrough.
Great work guys!
I always like it in a game where I can double jump again after using an attack in the air. I don't know why, it just feels right. And fun! Good work.
Wow what a fun game. Feels a bit like Risk of Rain with the stacking items, but plays like something I've never seen before. It's weird, it's like I'm being thrown into the fights by some act of will other than my own, but since it's linear gameplay it's perfectly fine. It's also perfectly fine because a lot of RPGs work like that with linear gameplay but you just choose the pace.
So basically, what I'm saying is you made a good game but worked around the theme by removing some control. Totally works.
It is a bit tedious to wait for the spell you want to appear, but I like how the selection process speeds up and that you are guarding as a default while you wait. Nice work!
Cool idea. I like it. It's charming in its own way. The visuals are nice, and good parallax scrolling. Controls are good, but more content for a game like this is a must. You should try to add more and then go for a real release. :) Good work!
Art, audio, and controls are fine. The design is a bit off. A wider view would be better. Plus, with a wider view you could focus on different types of hazards and terrain. Good work nonetheless.
Fun game! I like how it plays. The melee attack is very fun, especially with the little dash you get. It'd be nice if you didn't have to start at experiment 1 every time you die. Also, the art is fantastic. Thanks!
I like the idea you had going into this. It would be very cool to see that expanded further. Might actually play that as point and click games bore me, but this idea is promising.
Hope to see this developed further. It is too short to be really enjoyable now, but ideas are a great starting point for something great.
Not sure if Undertale inspired the art or not, but I like it. Feels very lonely in the game (mood-wise). Puzzles are nice, and the hints helped. The music added well to the mood. Good job.
Good work with Javascript. Good graphics. The screen scrolls down with space and also moves with the arrow keys, so it was a little frustrating at times because of that. Hope you develop this further.
Very nice! This looks great! Probably the best graphics I've seen yet. And I love how jumping and moving makes air run out faster. Good work! :)
Fantastic graphics and good idea for the theme. The game itself is very frustrating at the start and then slow as you tip toe your way between two guys to the truck. Would be fun as a multiplayer, but as a single player the controls hinder the game, I think.
Feels like a breakout that rotates, which isn't a bad thing at all. I like the idea of speeding up the little robot too. I think it'd "feel" better to use arrow keys or something to rotate the room, instead of the mouse. Good work.
Cool take on the theme. Would love to see this expanded further into a bigger game. Could take a cool approach with morality on this one (like white hat vs black hat).
Not a bad entry. Controls well and has potential. I think the various weapons you can have is a nice touch. Good job.
That was pretty fun. I love the humor. It controls a little weird, but once you get used to it it's incredibly fun. I like the extra weapons and abilities. :) Good work!
Nice entry. The controls were a bit weird, but that didn't bother me so much. However, the respawn times did bother me.
One of the biggest frustrations in platformers is dying and having a long reload time. It removes the will to keep going because it feels like you're wasting time.
Past that though, the graphics are pretty great, and I like your level design. Good job.
Hard game, but still fun. Great respawn time. Nothing is worse than dying a ton and having to wait 2 seconds before you can play again, so I appreciate that! The graphics are nice! The left and right movement feels a little floaty to me -- meaning it's hard to control. Definitely adds to the difficulty in a good way at times, but it also feels unfair sometimes.
I think what this really needs is a check point system. That would solve so many problems, no matter how hard the game is. At any rate, you guys should continue working on this. It's a great start.
Nice game. I like how you get to place more towers as you progress (and can move towers around) without having to worry about a resource cost. Seems fairly balanced, even if it is hard. I think it would be cool to add some variety somewhere -- different enemies, towers, or terrain. But for a compo entry, it's well done.
Cool idea, I like it a lot. Some of the puzzles were a bit too much for me, but that might be because I got four hours of sleep. Anyway, I like the design, simple yet fun. The difficulty ramps up in a good way. And yeah. Good job!
I like the random level generator for each level, that's kinda nice. I wish there was a way to know where the door would teleport you before you entered. Also, make sure to tell players they can kill enemies by walking into them. Graphics were nice and I enjoyed myself. Good game.
Cool entry. Was a little confused as to what I needed to do at the beginning, but once I figured it out I had fun. Art work looks nice! Random question: What do you think of Game Maker Studio 2? I'm still with GM:S 1 haha
I like this, very fun idea. I wish there was a better response time for input. Feels a little slow as it is now. That said, I like having to use multiple extractors to finish a job.
On the second tutorial though, I finished the it before the text was finished and I failed somehow. Seems a little unfair to have to redo it just to comply with the code.
Also, I love the text. I love games that try to include you in the world, like getting messages from a boss for a job. Good job! :)
Hey this was a lot of fun. Cool idea! Fits the theme very well I think. Loved the graphics and the game play is fun. I like the challenge of balancing people's energy bar with just one bed. And the emails were a nice touch. Good work!
Fun little game. Good job finishing it with the time you had. Also, I dig the music.
@pcmxms: Ah, thanks for pointing that out. Just fixed it! You'll no longer be thrown out of the room when pressing R when you first enter the game.
Thanks for all the comments, everyone!
Nice entry! Very fun game, and actually requires some mechanical skill and strategy to play. I love how the music always makes it seem like you're fighting for your life. I like the mouse controls, but the last boss fight with the shaky screen can be annoying to get the cyan stuff.
Beat 4 out of the 5. If I really wanted to, I'm sure I could beat the last one. I just gave up after a while. Hah, good job!
I like this a lot. It took me a while before I realized I needed to open up the comms to get the ball rolling with the other ship, but after that I loved it. The atmosphere and world you've established made it feel like I was actually in command of a refueling space station. Was pretty neat. Good game!
Pretty cool entry. I love the spin effect between restarting and levels. Also I love how certain things give different effects. The graphics and audio were nice. I didn't like how slow the jump felt, though. Also, while it was cool, the level with the spikes and the tilted screen was too much for me and I didn't finish it. Good work!
Cool game. I like the ammo system, but I didn't get ammo spawns very often and I spammed my bullets too much and died shortly after. Haha. Oh, and I like the heat system too. Adds a level of realism to the game.
Very tough puzzle game. I dig it. Good game! :)
This takes the soul-crushing experience of working in a cubicle and spreads it to others. Misery for all! Good idea, would love to see it developed further. :)
Nice entry. I like the idea behind it. It'd be more challenging if you had to save up money for upgrades instead of having a ton of money at the start. I think it'd also be more interesting if you could control the minions in the board game somehow. This has potential, good work! :)
Good work! I love this! We need more humor games in the world. Thanks for adding a lot of laughter to LD37. :)
Everything is so well done. I think that my favorite part so far is the amount of work done for voices and the mouth animations. Just amazing.
Cool game! I would love to see this expanded upon! Really feels like you're in space fighting a bunch of dudes. Also, the music has a very classical feel to it (almost Mozart-esque) which gave a pretty cool mood. Good work!
Nice little game. I think that if you're going to have a delay on when the mouse button is pushed to when the bullets actually fire, you need to show this in some way on the screen. I spent the first play through clicking rampantly to no avail. A charge bar or something that just shows that the mouse click registered something in the game is crucial. Otherwise, any new play might think they are having issues with their mouse connection.
Otherwise, good work. The game feels very fluid, which I enjoy.
Pretty sweet entry! The game plays very well and just has a nice feel to it. I don't think it really encapsulates the theme, but I don't think you should really worry about that. Also, I dig the art. :)
Oh! I also appreciate that enemies respawn in rooms after you kill them. Helps with farming if you want to change weapons. Good job.
Alright, this was stupidly fun. I could totally see myself playing this non-stop for a long while. I would love to play this game with more people at some point. Great work! :D
Wow. Wow. Best game I've played during this LD, maybe any LD I've participated in. Good freakin' job! The art, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the story... just amazing. I hope you take this further, because I would love to see a bigger game with this idea or something similar.
Cool game! It plays well. I think you could explain the mechanics better as you progress or show the enemy using a mechanic and then the player can learn through that. Otherwise, it's just blind experimentation which CAN work, it just isn't very reliable.
You should continue working on this if you're interested. I think it'd make a great mobile or online game. Good work!
Simple little game, but it's a good start. First off, I think the shooing sound effect is too loud. Playing this game at work with sound on is NOT RECOMMENDED to everyone else playing, haha.
Anyway, I like that drops from the ceiling makes more stalagmites. That's pretty neat. I would also like the player to be able to withstand more than one hit. Good work!
Good game. I think the level design is too hard in the beginning, but later levels are good. Once you get the hang of the game, it's fantastic. Would love to see more.
What a cool idea for a game! Would love to see this idea developed further. This would be a good way for people to practice FPS if they've never played one. Good work!
