LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Double Kick Heroes by blackmagic 2015-12-15T01:10:00

Man, that was a blast. Everything was great with one exception, the music overpowered the sound of the audio feedback of the controls, making it harder for me to sync up went to time my button presses. The sound effects were at a decent volume, but the music was a bit too loud.

Really really solid other wise, awesome job!

Really unnerving style. The use of colors and motion and particle effects gave it sort of an LSD quality. Music was really trippy, and meshed well with the Dean Martin I had on in the background. Some tricky corridors, but nothing unconquerable. The game didn't crash, which was a plus. I like how it was easy to pick up based on context, no instruction needed.

Pretty fun, Ditto!

Grow Ray!! by angela 2015-12-14T23:26:00

That was actually really fun hahahaha.
The music was nice for just zoning out and figuring out the different challenges. I got stuck on the level where you have the t intersection between vertical and horizontal, timing that was a bit too hard for me.

I love the slow mo moon walk of the character, pretty neat. I wish I could've beaten that level!

Simple design but fun.

Would be a neat puzzle platformer to see expanded and with tighter controls and animations.

Haaaah, neat! I agree with the comment about being able to speed the conveyor belt up, but I know the theme was two buttons, and the way this is configured that would be a hard thing to implement.

Possibly instead of having two hard buttons on the screen having just two keys configured and each one being pressed separately dispenses and toggles, but having them pressed together speeds up the conveyor belt, other than that, neat game.

Love the beat box sound effects, good job on those.

Much Gold by WitchBoys 2015-12-14T22:55:00

Nice graphics, good footstep sounds. Controls were a little weird and the actions felt a bit cumbersome, but the idea was pretty solid, I thought you did well with the Grow theme! Something about the way the bags were handled I didn't like, like the way that the placement was done and the Goblin felt a bit too heavy at times.

That being sad, the game was fun and there's a lot of room for expansion with the idea I think. Good job :)

I didn't like that the game required a controller, I feel like that might deter people from playing, but the controls for said controller were simple enough. I think the game is a bit too punishing early on, the guy controls pretty slowly, but that might be your intention. Graphics were fine for the game. I think the biggest critique I'd have would be the way it feels to control the character, getting the tightness of that down and making it more fun to be the character would go a long way. Oh, also the bullets stopping before hitting an object just made the gun feel super underwhelming, but maybe the collision boxes around the cars or certain objects need to be a bit tighter. I hope that helps :)

Tokyo Wars by Valandre 2015-12-14T23:05:00

Music and graphics went together very well, excellent sound choice. Those soft 3d models reminded me of Custom Robo for some reason. Good use of two button theme as well, and the mood was definitely set between the contrasting night city with the lighting.

My only critiques would be tweaking the movement, it felt a smidgeon stiff; the AI needs work, I didn't realize it was much of a battle, but I understand AI isn't the easiest thing to nail down in 48 hrs; and the power up placement was strange (but probably just nitpicking, overall that was fun.

Good job, enjoyable little bite of a game.

Playthrough went smoothly. Liked the sonic esque game music and the jazz menu music. Physics were smooth butter for me. Felt like a pinball game, and decent use of two button theme I'd say.

Lifenodes. by Remicy 2015-12-14T23:33:00

I would love to see this expanded upon, where you're dealing with more interactions in these different time periods, living a chunk of that life for a certain amount of time and then seeing the outcome. I wanted it to be more interactive, but it was really neat seeing the different outcome and sort of reflecting on that inwardly. Cool concept, the music and visuals helped, along with the theme, to tie the mood together.

I liked the pop culture tie ins.

Overall a really neat idea.

Bailman03, what error did you get and what were you doing when you got the error?

@Tselmek, ah I see that must be what #dcRfj15 was talking about.

Yeah I overshot on the game play, but I got a half decent idea out of it that I'm fleshing out currently, posting on twitter.com/craigoryham for those who want to check it out.

The Climbers by NirabazGAMES 2015-12-17T22:44:00

Instructions would have been nice, but after a few fails it became pretty apparent how to play. Funny game, good graphics, fit the theme well, and the controls were tight. Good job.
