LD30 — Connected Worlds

Mammoth Monkey Mole by ehtd 2014-08-26T23:48:00

Really fun, and challenging! I really like the concept of controlling several characters who all do different things. I also like that it's tile-based, this is so far the only tile based game I think I've played so far during ludum dare 30. Overall, this is a very well designed game.

Oculus Souls by OrangeeZ 2014-08-29T16:01:00

Cool game, the controls are a little awkward and combat feels clunky, but it has a nice art style and the music fits with it. A few bugs here and there but with refinement and extra polishing this could be something worth expanding on.

The Legend of Glowing Balls by Hemuuuli 2014-08-27T16:58:00

Fantastic atmosphere! The combat seems a little too tricky, but I guess it probably just takes a while to get used to. The audio and graphics are the best part, they really help to create a really good mood.

WorldLine by Jellycakes 2014-08-26T15:01:00

Fantastic idea! I really like the concept of typing in numbers to take you to a specific place. I think if this was to go further, it could start branching out so each level might have several codes that take you further into new worlds, and maybe there could also be secret worlds that aren't recorded, but typing them in would lead there. I have to admit that the last level got me stuck for some reason, I kept thinking it was alphabet-to-numeric - so yawA = 251231 or something along those lines, but the real answer was actually really clever!

Solar Supply by Josh Riley 2014-08-25T20:41:00

Found it to be very fun! I also like the way the hectic element of the mechanics contrast with the calm mood. Really nice game, I would love to see this idea expanded upon.

Galactic Paperboy by Aaants 2014-08-25T23:23:00

Interesting game, I didn't like the fact that you continue when you fail at first, but I actually think it's a good idea for a game with a score system. Maybe a way to improve on that is to let the player choose to either continue or retry the last level - instead of having to restart the whole game. I like the art style a whole lot, but the game wasn't as fun for me as it was visually appealing. Still a pretty cool, and very well polished game, with impressive physics.

Above & Below by Ariake81 2014-08-28T18:51:00

This was really nice, a little tricky on my own but still doable.

On the edge of Earth: 5000 by Hypnohustla 2014-08-29T14:36:00

Overall, really great! I think that figuring out how to show the distance on terminal c was a little too obtuse but after that it made perfect sense. I think this could be expanded on with more planets and perhaps a narrative too. Really like the art-style, sound and the concept seems really interesting.

Dimension Blocks by reaver 2014-08-28T19:28:00

Cool idea, would like to see more!

Flicker by PapaCheech 2014-08-27T22:58:00

Really fun and atmospheric, love the rogue-like turn-based system!

H.O.C.M.A. by Techblogogy 2014-08-27T16:43:00

Cool idea, but a little too slow, resources usually work a little better when you have something else to focus on when they're low. I think the game would be more enjoyable if I didn't have to wait for energy, or if there was something I could do to gain energy faster. Also I think you could have made the music loop a bit longer, the melody doing the same thing was fine, but the "velocity" of each note being the same every time the loop repeats is a little jarring. But apart from that it's a pretty good game idea!

Interplanetary by mactinite 2014-08-26T00:10:00

Game controls really well, I wasn't too keen on having to keep clicking for every shot though, maybe having it as a hold-down would be better, and if spamming was a concern then a recharge system for the weapon could be put in place, but still it's fine the way it is.

I didn't mind the difficulty too much. Really love the music, and the art-style is pretty cool too.

The Other Sky by Jishenaz 2014-08-26T22:07:00

Love the atmosphere of this. I'd say that first of all you need the mouse to be hidden and locked when playing because that can be a bit annoying in a first person game, also the controls could use some momentum, it feels a little off letting go of a key mid-jump and suddenly stopping. But overall nice idea and for some reason it reminded me of the game 'English Country Tune' in terms of the sound and visuals.

Provider Bob by Cryunreal 2014-08-27T18:22:00

Really well made! I feel like there could be more controls like jumping and maybe reloading as well as having ammo as a resource, but overall seems like a very well polished and fun game. It also seems to have endless levels, pressed the pan button for a minute or two and managed to get up to level 2000... So maybe another goal, if this is to go further could be to add an optional end game, so players can level up until they're ready to finish or keep going for as long as they want.

Notes from a Mad Mage by Razoric 2014-08-27T22:26:00

Really fun! Love the pace of it, and the music works perfectly with it too.

Delta Spaceline by damrem 2014-08-26T13:52:00

Cool game, took me a while to realise that getting passengers helped make the game go so much quicker, in fact it seemed almost unbeatable without making use of them. Seems like space trading is a perfect fit for the theme - I can't believe it didn't even cross my mind when coming up with ideas. I would love to see this as a full blown sandbox game, like a 2D sins of a solar empire without the combat.

Roy, Gee, Biv by LTPATS 2014-08-26T01:03:00

Great idea with the whole colour coordinated thing. I really like the wackiness of it, makes things a lot more interesting. Even the strange melodies had a certain charm. I'm not sure if the game is supposed to end, but I assume the game is "finished" when you get to the colourful particles outside the map?

Gravity: Connected Worlds by Seraphic Media 2014-08-26T23:17:00

I enjoyed the comet galaxy mode the most, it was fun, and the control scheme is interesting. The interacting galaxy mode was pretty good too, but a little to clicky for my tastes. Seems like this game would make a good fit on smart phones/tablets. The art style is nice and the music is really great!

Pink Parent by Maxom 2014-08-29T16:23:00

Interesting and made enough sense, I definitely liked it. Would like to see more levels if this goes any further.

Salvation by 43iscoding 2014-08-26T01:48:00

Nice, kind of reminds me of Eufloria a little. Very unique though. Definitely would like to see this expanded on more, a full game could be interesting.

R-elink: A link between worlds by RaycoSantana 2014-08-26T16:04:00

Great idea. I think that for when you teleport objects away, it could have been that they go from the world you see to the one your phone does, sort of like the opposite of what happens with the green-to-red objects, instead of them just disappearing. Apart from that, I liked it.

Close Your Eyes by nonetheless 2014-08-26T15:39:00

Like the game, minimalist art style is good and the mechanics are fun, but I honestly think the last level on unfair mode has too much of a difficulty spike, found the timing on that one pretty hard to get right compared to the others - also, I think that the audio should keep going, instead of restarting on every failure. But overall, I think it's a pretty great game that manages to do the whole "one button" mechanic very well.

Pipelines by xRubbermaid 2014-08-29T16:42:00

This is really cool! To take it further, you could add some music and sound effects, and maybe add a level system; so a level could be 10 letter combinations, then each level could add more letters either to the wheel or to the letter target or both. Maybe an in-game explanation of what you have to do would help as well, because I imagine some people might not get it.

NOODLE FEELING by Magdev 2014-08-28T18:18:00

This is just really awesome! The strangeness of it is really appealing too me. Love the art-style, music and sound effects and the overall tone of it is just wonderful!

Starpiercer by Schrodinger Games 2014-08-27T22:34:00

Cool idea, I think the slow down power-ups didn't seem all that useful, and perhaps if it was more difficult but with more health/model states that would make it more interesting, but I think as it is, it's a fun game with great controls, great visuals, and great music. Very well made!

schizm by KittyMac 2014-08-26T16:26:00

Pretty cool, the resource gathering being a test of speed was interesting. Perhaps the game could do with being longer with the planets having more health and maybe there could be resource waves to help keep it going - felt like the game slowed down a little too much after all of the resources around had been picked up. The art style is nice, the music was surprisingly fitting. Good game!

Crossworld Club by Artamus 2014-08-29T15:05:00

Like the humour, and it's definitely a unique take on the theme too! And the ending was pretty funny!

Severed Worlds by Rob Glen 2014-08-26T01:55:00

Getting to the world where all four have been connected into one is when it finishes. I didn't want the game to have a hard ending, but I probably should have at least signposted the fact that the game had finished.

Bolt by pxlcoder 2014-08-25T20:04:00

Took a while to understand what I was doing right whenever I completed a level, but once I got the idea of it I quite liked it. I'd say the music loop was a little too short, got a little grating after a while. But apart from that, good game!

Interplanetary Bridge Builder by Banni 2014-08-26T13:20:00

Fun game, didn't take long to figure out the best pattern to solve all the puzzles though - I liked the budget mechanic because it made the game require a little more thinking than it would have without. Would be good to see some more difficult levels.

Our Dream World by PapyPilgrim 2014-08-28T20:36:00

Atmospheric and very peaceful, really nice! Took a little while for me to understand anything that was happening gameplay-wise though.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Toy House Attack by floorman 2014-12-09T11:17:00

Well done guys, it's really great! Glad I could give a hand with the audio.

Lobachevskii by myachin 2014-12-08T23:31:00

Really cool take on the theme, I feel like the gameplay could be a little smoother, but the concept is great!

Resize by crhallberg 2014-12-09T22:14:00

Really cool idea. I feel like it would benefit from being more zoomed out though, and having a fullscreen mode due to the nature of the mechanic, as resizing and moving the window was a bit too awkward at times. But overall, I like it!

Orbytos by Zathalos 2014-12-10T22:01:00

Love the art style, and it's always nice to see a game with controller support! I think the game could use some audio feedback, such as a sound effect for being hit, and sounds emitting from enemies, even if it's something basic, it could help make the game just a little more clearer as it gets quite chaotic early in the levels.

Not Making It by Mattias Wargren 2014-12-10T23:13:00

This was cool, I like the peculiar yet relevant choice of keys. The music loop is pretty catchy too!

Polo by ChrisGaudino 2014-12-10T22:17:00

Cool concept, it's a little tricky to get your bearings for the next rotation when you have no idea what the colour is going to be, it feels like there should be at least a minute hint as to what the next colour, like maybe the next colour could do a really faint and quick flash just before the ball hits the current colour. It's good fun to play though, nice and straight forward as well.

Galaxia by greysphere 2014-12-10T23:39:00

Cool concept, like the sense of humor. I think this game would benefit from saving data locally, it seems like the kind of game that you play over a duration of time, not just in one sitting. Might be something to look into!

Mini Minotaur by ljdp 2014-12-10T23:51:00

That was really good, I for some reason didn't realise at first that you have to swap the rooms and didn't know what to think of the game. But once I got that, I started to really enjoy it!

Mobius Dungeon by nesis 2014-12-11T00:16:00

Fantastic concept, and surprisingly pretty straightforward to get your head around! I can see what you where going for with the theme in that every room is connected by screen position, which is actually really cool, you might be onto something, might be worth developing this further!

Spiral Wings by Joe Williamson 2014-12-09T20:44:00

The visuals and sound are amazing. And I really love the way the dragon controls, but it feels like the gameplay could be something more than just collecting orbs of light, maybe it could be exploration based or a puzzle game perhaps? Fantastic entry regardless.

Law Breaker by deepnight 2014-12-10T22:56:00

This is really cool! Love the visuals, and the music! And I had fun being a little bit stealthy, it's also fun just rushing and being chased by everything, so you managed to cover two different play-styles really well.

BORDERS by apiotrw 2014-12-08T10:50:00

Cool idea, I'd like to see a version with some animations and more levels for the mechanics to be expanded upon, but what you have currently is pretty good. I can't really see how this fits with the theme though.

Screened by hexagore 2014-12-11T00:02:00

Nice touch with the meta-narrative, might be the first Ludum Dare game I've played that broke the 4th wall! Found it a little too difficult to control for my liking, that's one of the few types of difficulty I'm not keen on, but I like the visual style, and I like the overlapping level concept.

Cycle by vicious_br 2014-12-10T21:30:00

Really cool game! The gameplay is smooth, and the teleport mechanic is really great. It seems like the primary fire becomes a little bit useless towards the end, I feel like that should be slightly more useful, as in you get more ammo and you should get less grenades to go along with that, but that's not important. The game is really fun, and I'd like to play more! I think I managed to break it though, about half way through the boss, it said I won, and then let me keep playing while the overlay was still there. But apart from that, really great entry!

Resonant Flux by Rob Glen 2014-12-09T23:10:00

Wakka, I agree to a certain extent that the levels should be automated, but I also feel like some people might want to take their time to go to the next level, or even go back a level, maybe I could have it as an option? It could default to on. In terms of the theme, I was trying to go for the idea that all of the levels were on the screen simultaneously, and you grow and shrink them depending on which one you want to play, I can see why that doesn't quite fit, but I was trying to think out side the box a bit.

01rafael, have you tried pressing the number keys? There are ten levels, each one unlocks with every new level you complete.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far!

Resonant Flux by Rob Glen 2014-12-10T22:39:00

Krz, I agree completely, the game's not hard enough, I spent quite a bit of time trying to balance it, but I think it has fallen too far on the side of easy.

Coconut Mage, I'm afraid I can't think of any reason why the player won't move, might be worth trying to 1. refresh, 2. delete playerprefs in Username/AppData/Roaming/WebPlayerPrefs - find and delete the .upp file, or 3. Try the download version, see if that works. I've had it tested on a couple of machines, and there are definitely still some bugs, but I'm not sure how that one could have happened.

Tuism, Yeah, I think the levels should roll over automatically, maybe once the player picks up the last power-up (for health), it could go straight into the next level, or a timer after all of the enemies are dead. And then they can turn that off if they like, or change level whenever they like. I really wanted to make the level changing element a central mechanic, but I never really achieved that. I was move focused on polish this time round, I'm thinking of working on the game a bit more; push up the difficulty, add a proper menu, more level variety, more enemy types that have different weapon behaviors, etc. I think I've nailed down the controls and flow of the moment-to-moment gameplay, but it could be so much more!

Typro by PeerPlay 2014-12-10T22:24:00

Awesome, love it! Music game meets typing game is a fantastic concept, also gives you an excuse to use as many keys on the keyboard as possible which is pretty cool. Might be a good way to teach people how to touch type too!

Screen Cutter by squirrel 2014-12-09T20:58:00

Really love the concept of this, I like the computer's visual style as well. I feel like most of the levels were a little too straight forward but that's always understandable as I imagine balancing a puzzle game in Ludum Dare can't be very easy. Great entry, I enjoyed playing that.

Beat+Trak by Lynx 2014-12-09T22:52:00

Good game, I have to admit at first I wasn't sure what was going on, then I realised that you press down instead of up, might want to change that in the description! I think it was also a little difficult to see the player, but apart from that, this was pretty cool!

Square by onilink_ 2014-12-08T11:22:00

Awesome! This is really well made, solo seemed a little too slow at first but after trying sprint I think having solo at the speed it currently is makes sense. With some audio and more game modes this could be a really great game. In terms of extra game modes, you could look to bejeweled 3 where it has the standard ones, then some gimmick based game modes as well. Also, instead of having the rotating buttons bound to space and shift+space, it might be better to use two keys next to each other. But as it is, it's a really good game!

A-Maze-Ballz by Krz 2014-12-10T16:30:00

Really interesting gravity mechanic, reminds me of a section in the game NightSky where you have to make use of wind-turbines to carry your marble to the end of the level, you've got an almost inverse version of that mechanic going on. I like the level of difficulty as well - perhaps the curve is a little too steep, but a good challenge regardless. I'd say that maybe you could have not had the gravity as strong as it is in the later levels and had more complex routes instead - as level 8 onwards it starts to feel more awkward to control. All in all, a nice challenging unique game, and I'm interested to see how well it plays on android.

Microscope by johnbrynte 2014-12-09T22:36:00

This has such great tonality. Love the visuals and the music is really nice.

Of Carrots And Blood by Trite Games 2014-12-10T21:47:00

I like this, it's a good bit of fun, but I think the attack sound effect should be a little quieter, and maybe the carrot attacks should collide with the larger carrot, just to force the player to move around a bit more. I love the art style! And the music is cool too.

A Place in Space by lokijki 2014-12-08T23:43:00

Great use of the theme, and great gameplay, art and music all in one. This is really good!

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Square Exit by LeReveur 2015-12-16T23:54:00

This was really fun! I think it was pretty well balanced difficulty-wise, it felt like the right level of challenge for the style and scope of the game and the responsiveness of the controls helped with that too.

Lands of TSR Lore by Christina Antoinette Neofotistou 2015-12-17T00:35:00

This was fun, no theme connection, but I saw in your post that you decided not to, which is fair enough. It never occurred to me that something like this could be done in construct so that was cool to see. The art and music were great as well!

Turbo Pig by Crazi456 2015-12-17T02:29:00

This was fun! And I love the style, all the art and audio is great, and the gameplay was enjoyable, I feel like there were a few moments where having to make fast reactions didn't feel like it fit with the style, especially with the green line tool, but I think it works out alright, placing trampolines and boosters was straight-forward enough that it felt like it balanced that out.

Void by bakudas 2015-12-16T23:40:00

I noticed the arrow kept getting locked once I got to the first zoom out area, not sure if that was intentional but I feel like that effected the controls in a negative way. The concept is cool, the art and music are really nice and the sound effects and player feedback when you hit the pickups are excellent. Pretty great effort overall!

Aligned Destruction by Mano 2015-12-17T01:34:00

Three actions out of two controls is a pretty creative use of the theme! Playing as the car felt a bit awkward, but the tank was more fun - I liked the lock-on system on the tank more than the shooting forward that the car had, but I'm not sure I understood what the yellow stuff was for? The secret was pretty weird - but I mean that in a good way!

Avalanche by jlouisB 2015-12-17T02:05:00

This was enjoyable, and nice use of both themes. And also appropriate setting for the time of year! I found the snowball splitting to be pretty clever, I wasn't expecting that. Great music and visuals as well!

Glow Run by ryan.poitras 2015-12-17T02:15:00

Ctrl and space feel a bit too awkward, maybe something like z and x or arrow keys might be more suitable? Might be better to have several key configurations active at the same time so people can pick what to use. I like the aura around the orb and the momentum of the game, I feel like the tail of orbs following should follow closer though because that seemed like a nice touch but I didn't notice it until I got caught on something, and it was off the screen when I was at full speed.

Decay Dynamics by NotoriousFlex 2015-12-17T01:07:00

Fantastic concept! Fun, with intuitive controls and great art and audio. As simple and focused as it needs to be and really well made on top of that. My only complaint is that because of how much attention I had to put on picking the right parts in the right order, I found myself not looking at what was happening in the game visually almost the whole time, it might be better to bring the UI from the sides to the bottom center? Apart from that, pretty much perfect!
