A fun little adventure game. Yes sound effects would have been great for this game, or at least some music. I would also have liked an inventory system, or perhaps just a simple way to see what I have collected. But this is overall a great game, especially for your first LD.

It's definitely nice game, especially for a first LD! The only thing that is not obvious enough - is the rope. It's really hard to find even by pixel-hunting everything :) And the inventory would be nice help if you accidentally skipped some text. Overall it's a very good game, like it!

ketchupcoke 2017-04-25 22:52

Thanks the feedback guys, I totally agree with your points and about the inventory system which I had originally planned but feared I would run out of time :/

I have now also rated your game.

Nice game !

The whole thing is simple and efficient, It's true that music and sound design would have add some dynamisme and underlined the ambiance you developped with your plot and graphism, but it's allready working as it is and it nicely fits the theme. Small detail : I had trouble with composing the code as I couldn't with the numerical pad.

Congrats and it's rated !

Had a great time! It took me a while to find the flashlight, which was my hang-up (I feel like everyone gets stuck on something with these types of games). I really liked the art and I **loved** the cameras in the bushes watching you. I was totally reminded of gritty old-school 90s point-and-click adventures. I also like how you can break the night/day machine at night and how the flashlight makes night a little brighter. Nice details.

Very nice work! Super impressive that this is your first game!

Very well done!

Critiques: * Not much background on the character or story. A silly quip about who the character is would have been golden. * No sound

Complements: * When I first saw the art, I was a little worried, but it just took a few seconds to realize that you did a fantastic job tying the visuals together, ESPECIALLY the walking animation. * Definitely got a chuckle from the bench

Awesome Job, @ketchupcoke. Hope to see you next year!

I love a good adventure! It's pretty short, but what you have so far is great. Lovely graphics as well. My only real complaint is the difficulty finding hidden things. I'd have liked some visual clues (imagine the end of the rope being visible). Also sounds are nice to have in adventure games, but I understand you didn't have time (I rarely have time to spend on sounds in my LD games too). So yeah, I like it :)

Nice graphics. I was wondering why the moon and sun were attached to a string; I thought that was pretty neat. It was a bit hard to find certain items; there was nothing intuitive about some of the locations. But once all the pieces were collected, it was easy to put them together. I liked the different scenes and the lighting. As others said, it could use some audio. I was also concerned, from the background, that the details in the background would be too distracting, but they weren't too bad.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I definitely agree with many of the points you have made and hope to use that to improve with my next entry!

hackschnitzel 2017-05-16 18:39

8 and counting... ;-) Did not find the rope and magnet yet ;-(

jebouin 2017-05-16 18:51

I escaped! Nice game, the graphics are not exceptional but they are quite coherent. I also had a bug where the cursor would stay highlighted everywhere but that didn't have any impact on the overall experience. Congratulations on your first entry!

veksell 2017-05-16 18:53

Nice game.

slueta 2017-05-16 18:55

Hi, this is nice-looking game. it was hard to find the objects. Keep on making games! if you have the opportunity, please rate mine: NUKEBALL - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/nukeball

I absolutely LOVED your game, i'm a real big fan of adventure games! Really great work to make a finished adventure game in the time! The only thing i struggled with was that i didn't realise that i could enter the pipe in the pond at first - though that just added to the enjoyment for me as it bought me back to the old adventure games searching for any little clue or detail! Great work! :-)

Simple quick game but I had so much fun. I have to admit I was worried about the graphics, but when I saw them in motion it worked much much better than I expected.

There not much to say, short but sweet, congratulations!

I like film "The Truman Show" and your really funny implement it idea, your art and idea are very good. Great job!

thatsnillet 2017-05-16 19:23

As i fan of adventure games, i love this. The difficulity is perfect, the puzzles are just tricky enough to be engaging. Maybe a bit short, but thats usually the thing with ludum dare games. Great work! (Check out my game if you have time, i also need a few more votes)

t0m 2017-05-16 19:25

Hey ! I really *loved* the atmosphere ! When we play this game we can jump into your world, and your mind :) Graphics are very 'simple' (I know even looking simple it's painful to make ;) ), but it fits perfectly. The theme is respected. One thing, I would add sound, and I would improve movements, cause I found it a bit laggy and slow. But overall it's very good !

pixlwalkr 2017-05-16 19:25

Nice and interesting game! Good job on your entry :)

tuomo 2017-05-16 19:31

Nice short adventure game! Lot of good ideas here, but needs more work to be great. Graphics are okay, bit stiff. I’d recommend using bit more less saturated palette, it’s bit too bright. Especially those red flowers on green grass. That sewer scene was bit odd. How did I get there? Was the pond drained or something. The magnet and key puzzle was really obvious. Overall really functional game and your first entry, good job!

phi 2017-05-16 19:42

Cute little point and click adventure -- I like seeing these every once in a while. And you put everything together nicely: simple but effective graphics, fairly intuitive level design (though some things are indeed quite hard to find...), not too much to read. Sometimes the cursor went buggy (e.g. when I returned from the pond it stayed purple), but otherwise, this appears to be quite polished. Great job!

ketchupcoke 2017-05-16 19:53

Yeah I am aware of the bug involving the cursor, perhaps I will add a bugfix if it is allowed (I know what's causing it and I believe it's only on the HTML export)
