Not a bad game! Surprisingly fun but very challenging! Enjoyed playing it a bunch!

greysphere 2017-08-01 03:17

This was really fun! I enjoyed the mix of dungeon-contruction and dungeoneering. It was fun to reveal different treasures and obstacles then make plans of how to best interact with them. I did find myself getting a lot of 'dead end' tiles, and while you could toss them away, that felt unsatisfying. Also I would have preferred larger chunks of construction maybe than just one tile, there was a lot of place/step/place/step.

Overall really well done and creative, particularly for a jam!

eric-florio 2017-08-01 07:50

The art is cute and the gameplay is interesting! I just felt a little bit lost, like it was pure luck. Maybe if you could find hidden objects indicating the direction of the sewer... Great entry!

walterp 2017-08-01 07:52

Very interesting design! Was very cool being able to layout the dungeon yourself with the options of the tiles. Great work guys, keep it up!

boxfort 2017-08-01 08:41

The concept behind this game is very interesting and well executed, with creating your own path with tiles is something i have never seen before. The art is very nice and the sound fits well. This is a really well made game!

nordtraveller 2017-08-01 09:05

It`s really cool, have good graphic, but it`s too much based on luck. On one of lvl i discover over 1/3 of map and don`t find any water.

burchyn 2017-08-01 09:25

Thank you everyone for playing our game and for your feedbacks!! Its good to hear that you enjoyed it ^^ @eric-florio and @nordtraveller, I am feeling like you didn't try our 'scanner'. Its made for those kind of lost situations, it indicates if you are going far away from the exit or getting closer. So you know where you are going. Of course it doesn't show you where the exit is exactly, you need to find it yourself by trying different directions, that's the challenging part of the game also. If you didn't try it, I suggest you to re-try the game with the scanner :) Be careful though, it costs 10 water power. Enjoy!!

And I run out of water... again :D

That I liked: - The graphics are very, very nice and polished - The music is good - An interesting take on the dungeon creation - A very detailed tutorial

Things I found that would make the game even better: - The game could have been less based on luck - Added support for WSAD (I had to place my left had in an unnatural way for me; this might be year of FPS games speaking ;) ) - The tutorial might have been a bit shorter - The tutorial text and buttons would have been more easy to read and noticed if they were bigger

Overall I enjoyed the experience

mortus 2017-08-01 10:02

Really like the game overall. I honestly didn't think that problems other people are describing are too bad. Maybe I was just lucky. Yes, on further levels not finding any water randomly could be discouraging, but how else are you going to increase the difficulty?

Tutorial is great and describes everything you need to know without taking too long in my opinion.

The foremost thing that could make the game a lot better would be smooth animations instead of teleportation on movement. Oh, and tutorial is unreadable on 4:3 monitor in 1280x1024, which is, again, probably not a problem in 2017.

neowhoru 2017-08-01 12:10

Very nice art style and cool idea. The Gameplay is sometimes struggeling and i didnt first realize what do do (as it said "move by arrows") and i didnt expect to put the tiles first there.

dragojt 2017-08-01 12:17

What a solid game, awesome! Great original concept, funny dead message xD, nice art... Everything works perfectly! Good job guys, good luck on he ratings!

dragojt 2017-08-01 12:17

What a solid game, awesome! Great original concept, funny dead message xD, nice art... Everything works perfectly! Good job guys, good luck on he ratings!

hishicorne 2017-08-01 12:53

This game is pretty awesome : nice concept wich is pretty fun, very great art and music, the humor is here... It's a good game, a bit repetitive but it's fine !

remzo 2017-08-01 14:18

Fun game. Very polished in terms of graphics and gameplay! Forcing exploration through random tiles is a really cool idea. Though when I die, I feel it's more a case of bad random chance than my own mistakes in exploration. Maybe it would be nice to be able to rotate a tile by spending some water too. Also really cool that you guys made it mod-able.

xarras 2017-08-01 15:06

I love Carcassone, I love this game, feels very polished and ready to launch! I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions on how to improve the game. It's just great! I love the angry crab :)

krunoslav 2017-08-01 16:39

Nice game. First I lose 3 times, then I realized that it is better to build the paths and do not move, then to move according to the sources that you found. I do not know if is the dynamics that you expected, but it works.

I agree with @Remzo, very polished in terms of graphics and gameplay! Normally I try to resolve that in the last hours but it is very important, and it makes easy and fun to play your game. You have even a tutorial, nice!

Music fits well with the game.

If you force me to find something that I dislike, it is that levels are not too much different but I understand that you can not make 10 levels in 2 days :P

togis 2017-08-01 17:42

@Xarras we love it too, I even had the box on my desk while coding. We used it to explain the concept to a team member.

WP_20170801_19_36_42_Pro.jpg

@krunoslav yes that's the strategy I use when I play too, move as little as possible.

simonhutchinson 2017-08-01 19:57

Great work. Nice fusion of a variety of different types of games into something original. I do feel like I get a bit lost (even with the exit detector), but great little roguelike!

damoy 2017-08-01 20:01

Very nice game, looks and is pro. Enjoyed it, nice work, congratz !

wrexialmt 2017-08-01 20:20

Gotta love a game that's modable, not that im able to draw any assets for it, but just the fact that you took the time to do it possible, great job!

sugarbyte 2017-08-01 21:02

Nice polished entry, very fun to play.

fireshake 2017-08-01 21:24

Funny Game, enjoyed it!

automatonvx 2017-08-02 00:21

Great entry, really nicely polished visuals, already feels commercial quality, Would maybe suggest an animation for when the main character is moving between tiles rather than just instantly transporting, buts thats a really minor thing. I really like the core idea of choosing where to put the random tiles, feels like maybe there is more you could do to enhance the strategy, maybe if some pickups are already shown so you get an incentive to build in certain directions or avoid others or something . Anyway cool game

ganbaregameskyle 2017-08-02 05:57

Nice. I like some scantily clad cartoon girls.

pauljs 2017-08-02 07:52

Nice tiny game ! Cute graphics and polish game ! Good job !

mennchen22 2017-08-02 08:41

Really cool game! The Graphics, music and Gameplay fits together fine :) Maybe it is a little bit to heavy to find the exit point. Took a while of playing, BUT overall it keeps me playing because other stuff fit nicely!

johngun 2017-08-02 10:59

Loved the gameplay and art style a very fun game you have made. Great job

franfox 2017-08-02 11:25

Really good game! My first impression was the game will be the typical rogue-like but I have a good surprise when I've noticed the path/cards implementation. Very inspiring, good job!

daydreamerstudios 2017-08-02 12:53

This game is so addicting! It's really well balanced and it doesn't get boring because it's randomly generated. Good job!

aj-weeks 2017-08-02 14:34

Unique take on the theme! I liked the art style and the idea was neat. It would have been even better if the game looked at where you can go and would give you at least one piece that you can move along. Still a nice entry

angry-squirrels 2017-08-02 15:10

Really good game, arts and gameplay. It lacks a bit of animations from my point of view :yum:

svr-audio 2017-08-02 15:39

The art is beatiful, really great job, the use of the theme is very good, I cannot remember of playing a game like this in this jam, a very outside the box game, different than most of games out there, and the most important thing: is fun to play. Great job !

brandon-diaz 2017-08-02 15:48

Loved the art style, interesting concept. I ended up playing this a lot longer than I intended.

c0nst4ntin 2017-08-02 16:04

I really liked the Art of this game. And it felt very polished!

iseeicy 2017-08-02 17:14

The game was super polished and fun. I loved the game over screen. This is the type of game that's easy to pick up but hard to master.

Only have one nitpick, there's a small bug where if you complete a level while next to an enemy, that enemy stays on the enemy indicator on the left side of the screen when you first appear in the next level. It goes away as soon as you move, but that confused me the first time it happened.

togis 2017-08-02 18:01

@iseeicy wow good catch, I didn't think of that and we never encounter it in our test. Thanks!

baski 2017-08-02 19:57

Cool idea , nice graphics but lack of fun and action. :/ sorry. But i wish you good luck.

rightangel 2017-08-02 20:27

Very nice art, clever concept and fun! Really nice game. Seems polished and complete!

richard-jedlicka 2017-08-02 21:38

Beautifully crafted game. First level it is fun, later it is repetitive. But I still like it. Good job!

knorz 2017-08-02 22:04

Love the mechanics!! This is really really great. Love the graphics style especially. :)

I queued the game on you twitch channel and I am hoping for a rating :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/disaster-on-nebula-one

kungkras 2017-08-02 23:13

There's a very retro PC game vibe to this :)

The art was really good too.

bocodillo 2017-08-03 02:02

A good game with a unique concept. The gameplay mechanics were cool, I could see it really suiting a mobile release but the game did feel a little repetitive as the levels felt slightly large. That said this is a fun game with great aesthetics, fun music and a good sense of humour.

tkuusis 2017-08-03 06:40

Interesting concept! The path construction reminds me of a boardgame called Saboteur. Love the art style and the whole game seems really polished, good work!

quivscor 2017-08-03 09:56

Lovely game, I like everything about it

reax 2017-08-03 11:03

Excellent game, well done!

madmarcel 2017-08-03 11:14

I enjoyed that. Good game.

littlelegend 2017-08-03 11:16

Love the game <3 A cool Dungeoncrawler in an innovative Setting and simple to understand rules :)

rafael-souza 2017-08-03 11:22

I love it, it's a challanging game!

The post is beauth too, awesome.

I hope to see this game again in the near future!

sporeczek 2017-08-03 11:24

very nice game :) it reminds me of the boardgame "Dungeoneer". I very liked that game, i like this game too :) I want to play once more :)

articnet 2017-08-03 11:32

Pretty nice game!

bombjack 2017-08-03 11:49

nice game. really great idea for the theme.

mr-houdini 2017-08-03 13:12

Amazing idea, great for a mobile/ipad game for sure! Searching for the exit was random but yet fun. Discovering and managing the cards was so challenging. Great game, good luck!

jotson 2017-08-03 13:15

Very cute game. Fun too. Surprisingly interesting with the dungeon building mechanic. Good job!

lerpish 2017-08-03 14:16

Great game

holypangolin 2017-08-03 14:46

Very cool, pretty and innovative! HTML version can use some improvements, can't scroll the browser window, and the game doesn't fit in the window. Otherwise I loved it!

jusw85 2017-08-03 18:50

I liked the game! The only thing I would've changed is maybe have some ways of overcoming randomness. Sometimes the spawns and tiles are too unforgiving, especially on the later levels.

marin0104 2017-08-03 19:30

I think you have mixed a variety of gameplay mechanics together to a very delicious peace of cake err... game :) I like your entry very much. It is a very solid polished game! But i do concern the same thing @jusw85 mentioned in the post above me. Sometimes i got tiles that were very unfair, so i got stuck although my choices in the earlier game were not pure madness :) Perhaps you could implement an algorithm that checks the existing paths to avoid too much tiles that causes "dead ends".

In addition: Thank you very much for playing my game "Inhouse Baristas". Your gameplay video helped me a lot to understand what i did wrong in the development phase. Now i know on what i do have to focus even more for the next LD. Btw, if you remember my game and are interested in how to play this game exactly - take a look again at my game page. I already updated the description.

Cheers :)

P.S.: Unfortunaly in my office do not work a barista. We still got to make the coffe by ourselfs :(

toonteamj 2017-08-03 20:02

This was a very interesting entry. Sadly, I'm very bad at navigating on roads, so you can imagine how well I fare when I have to build my own to a location unknown.

togis 2017-08-03 20:09

@Marin0104 Thanks for the review, and yes I'm interested to undesrstand how to play your game! I will have one more look at it when I'm not completely sleepy ^^ I'll add it back to my list to game to check.

coomzy 2017-08-03 20:54

Looked nice, got stuck because I couldn't get and down to left pieces

alaah 2017-08-03 21:57

Best LD39 game I've played so far.

grandtheftmarmot 2017-08-03 22:08

Amazing amount of polish! Wow! What a professional looking submission.

peachtreeoath 2017-08-04 04:54

Woof that was a tough game until I realized I should just go to the marked exit area. I would go there and see a monster so I'd avoid it; didn't realize it was just guarding it. The exit meter itself is very unique and added a lot of strategy to the game. You mixed and matched a lot of different things and ended up with something pretty cool. I like my innovative games and you are definitely one of those.

michaeltwg 2017-08-04 05:35

Graphics are very sweet the gameplay works well and looks like a board games.

christina-antoinette-neofotistou 2017-08-04 05:45

I too love Carcassone *and* desktop dungeons, and this gave me vibes of both. Fantastic roguelike, I'm astounded you managed to polish *and* code *and* design it in that amount of time. Excellent work, full marks from me!

webster 2017-08-04 09:29

One of the best game here !

But some improvement : I would like to choose if i want to take an item on the ground or not, because at the beggining of the game, i had a lot of life regen and water, but no other to choice than use them...

Other things, for the moment, i have the sensation that i don't know what i'm doing and walking in the sand and waiting to find something, the game don't talk to me enough (i mean you shall gave better clue than a warm/cold radar, like an high presence of enemy or else)

But a really great work, gg !

elgregos 2017-08-04 16:53

Very good game, the kind I could spend hours on! Can't add muche, I had fun with it. Ok, perhaps the compass wasn't clear enough, as it show the distance to the exit, I would have thought that the less distance should be left and the farthest would have been right, when it is here the opposite. That's all I can say as negative, so... good job!

a333 2017-08-04 18:04

A very nice game! Solid gameplay and a lot of things, items (and enemies) to explore, which keeps the process interesting. Music was cheerful and fitting, and I liked your unique artstyle. Congratulations on the nice entry! Have you considered a way to allow people shuffling tiles, perhaps at water cost?

guckstift 2017-08-04 21:51

Very interesting game. Had to use my brain for this one :D (happens not so often) Plus: my gf likes the mermaid, she likes the graphics style and so I do.

some-nerd 2017-08-05 04:58

Good game, but is a bit too difficult from the start.

rikoclon 2017-08-05 11:01

Its greatly polished. seemed innovative until i read that the concept was from another game. thats ok. I found it to be to challenging with not enough rewards. the exit was pretty hard to find even with the scanner. the scanner could have been more precise than it was. maybe like an arrow that points from the player? Its probably fun for some people just not my type of game i suppose. WASD as an option would have made a better feel. Good job with the polish, the graphics, the audio. theme was close enough. not exactly a funny game. The mood was good. Great work!

sergei-ryzhov 2017-08-05 13:57

very solid entry!

tori 2017-08-05 17:00

Great game, very polished for a jam game i love the art, and it's a really cool concept, really fun, my favorite entry so far

togis 2017-08-05 19:08

Hello @Rikoclon

Thanks for the comment. Just to clarify, Carcasone gameplay is totally different from Thirst. The only similarity is building the map with tiles. (But that can be said from a classic puzzle too).

Carcasone is a multiplayer strategy game where you try to control more territory then your opponents. Thirst is a survival rogue-like single player game.

rijnswand 2017-08-05 19:44

Amazing game! Love the concept with the map building, really interesting idea. Cohesive graphics and awesome general mood. The music was a bit raw, but overall, it was a pleasant experience.

pschichtel 2017-08-05 20:01

Great game! The character could use some some animation from tile to tile. The tutorial was well done and the whole thing felt pretty good.

timeracers 2017-08-05 20:44

Excellent game, loved the music. I do also find it too luck based. I hate it when I pick up an inferior weapon, if only the mermaid was smart enough to not equip any weapon she comes across.

Hint For finding the exit: with three scans (3 different corners) you should be able to pinpoint the exit assuming the scans are accurate. 2 scans are vertical from each other which tells you the x coordinate while 2 scans are horizontal telling you the y coordinate.

goloso-games 2017-08-05 22:14

Good game, graphics are really nice. This is a nice puzzle/maze game, concept is interesting, very good entry. Maybe if you could add some NPC who can help you a little to find the sewers, it would be even better !

togis 2017-08-06 00:24

Jamie ["RandomiseUser"](https://twitter.com/RandomiseUser) made a youtube video about our game! Thanks Jamie!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9fICCkJlG4

toadietechnika 2017-08-06 07:49

One victory is already enough for me, because this game is hard. The incoming tiles are sometimes unforgiving, but the scanner do forgive haha. I actually liked this game, not only that the graphics are suitable for the game's theme and story, but also the gameplay mechanic matches the point of the game. So, if you want a mermaid to escape from the sewers, you got it in this game! Good job guys :D yeah.png

diptoman 2017-08-06 09:07

This was pretty cool. My main gripe was that I kept getting dead end tiles, and the reveal thing seemed pretty useless for something taking up this much amount of water (or maybe I wasn't using it right?). The idea and execution of everything was top notch though, so props for that.

daneestar 2017-08-06 11:07

Wow. Very interesting concept. Good graphics and great music.

The game itself is a bit too hard for me though. The decisions I had to make were almost only random... The goal "test" should be free. I did not figure out how to use the garbage can. Also what should I do, when the tiles presented are not working for me right now.

It could become a very good game if the decisions I have to make would be more tactic/strategic and not only random based.

Update: I played some more after reading some comments. It makes definitly sense to place some tiles before the movement and just move after some placed tiles. But I still can't use many of the proposed tiles...

antti-haavikko 2017-08-06 17:28

Managed to almost get to lvl 3. Died to a crab who was camping on top of the exit without noticing how low my health was. Guess I should have explored more in search for potions. Difficulty was pretty harsh it being so heavily reliant on RNG. The dead end tiles could even be removed entirely or at least be made less frequent (or free to use).

Couldn't really figure out the scanner meter. Which way was supposed to be close and which far? One side had a flame (which I associated with hot/cold being close/far) and other had the word exit which also meant I would be close to it.

Also would have been nice to see numerical values of my health and water levels. Maybe even tooltips for what all the different items were. It was kinda annoying that I was sometimes forced to pick up a worse weapon because it was blocking the only way I could go.

Is this a bug? For some reason the L shaped tile didn't connect to the T shaped one on the right side of it. thirst2.png

The water/hp bars were misplaced on web version fullscreen for me. thirst1.png

The game could probably benefit from premade levels. Sure, you'd lose a lot of replay value that way but at least that way all the levels would be solvable. Or another way to make the progression feel more fair would be to make the levels start off way smaller. Something like 5x5 for the first etc, so you'd really have to goof things up to fail so early.

togis 2017-08-06 19:05

Thanks everyone for all your great comments!

@daneestar to use the garbage, just drag & drop a tile/card onto it :)

@antti-haavikko

* The first picture doesn't seem to be a bug to me, both tiles need to not have wall connecting them so they can connect, not just one

* I have never seen the second bug, what browser do you use. Webgl is sometimes a bit weird, I wonder if any other person had the issue? Do you also have a zoom on your browser?

* I really like your idea of starting the game with smaller map, that would have been a great addition, but with the short amount of time, if was hard to fit it in.

As a side note, the scanner meter could have been explained better in the tutorial.

It indicate to the player "how far" the exit is, if the needle point to the left side, the exit is on the other side of the map, if the needle point to the right side, you are just next to the exit. A good way to use it is to use it once, then move a few tiles and use it again, you'll then see if you are getting closer of futher from the exit.

antti-haavikko 2017-08-06 19:35

I'm on macOS Chrome, no zoom. And it happened only when fullscreen.

123.png

But I though that 2 was a T shape and should have connected to 1. Maybe I'm wrong and it only allowed me to put a tile there because of 3.

togis 2017-08-06 21:39

@antti-haavikko Maybe it was a bug changing the 2 from a T when you had it in your had to what it is there. It looks more like a Up-Left Tile (UL) on this screen instread of a ULR (T shape). Indeed 3 is (from what I see) at least a ULR (T shape), if not a ULDR tile (crossroad). 3 would allow you to build 1, but would not connect if 1 doesn't have a down connexion.

We should probably have forbidden the construction of a tile without connection, but time didn't let me work on that.

drums 2017-08-06 23:29

Super clever! I love the way that you can build the levels yourself. I might steal this idea some day in the future so thank you XD

infernal 2017-08-06 23:46

Nicely done! My only gripe was the number of times dead end tiles, or multiples of the existing, but unusable tiles showed up in the tiles selection, causing me to waste water to throw them in the trash.

maldo19 2017-08-07 04:08

I liked the concept of this game, Putting together a road for you to move is fun, however the game is really based in luck (I won't talk about the tile choosing as someone else already did), when I played there wasn't much of a indication of where the exit was, I tried to use the radar but it used too much power and it just told me that I was at the same distance as the last time I checked. I would liked if the radar would light up an area so you can get a better hint to where is the exit, if you want to still use your current system I would recommend to reduce the radar cost so you can check more frequently so you can reduce the luck factor a little more.

theflyingkeyboard 2017-08-07 11:02

Really original concept of gameplay. Fun graphics and sounds. Have not found any bugs while playing. The only thig that could be better is difficulty level. I think that this game is just too easy and finishing levels does not give satisfaction. Great entry for Ludum Dare. One of the best games I've played so far.

prodigalson 2017-08-07 19:40

I have the power, the power to carve myself a new path! Nice idea. I liked it.

n-feofentov 2017-08-08 11:07

I played this game at last!

I really like concept. Ar the beginning I thought that this is some kind of puzzle, but it appears to be self-constructed dungeon crawler! I don't quite understand battle system. And randomizer sometimes ruins balance (at my first run I was surrounded by enemies, but I didn't want to start battle yet).

Game over screens are great

ethan-kennerly 2017-08-09 02:27

5-stars! When I placed tiles to explore, I felt interested in this cute world with adorable critters. If you continue to develop this, I would keep playing if I knew how to get myself out of a dead end draw of tiles in the first level.

petzi 2017-08-09 18:19

It's pretty interesting, but I was a bit confused because sometimes pieces didn't seem to connect when they should. I also wasn't sure how the radar works, is it based on your direction or on your position?

As some people have pointed out, it's a bit too luck-based. But fun, nonetheless, it's a shame I couldn't get past the first level :P

ruerob-hyky 2017-08-09 19:05

Haha! Really awesome game! Haha! That was a lot of fun. :0) The greaphics were really nice and the sounds fitted really really well! :0) Awesome job! \o/

schu 2017-08-10 14:17

Nice work! I really enjoyed placing the dungeon tiles but combat was pretty meaningless to me and I never had trouble with my supply of water.

recursor 2017-08-10 17:54

Nice amount of polish for 72 hours. Having the player sort of layout his own dungeon with the cards is a nice idea.

catoto 2017-08-10 18:41

Cool! I like it very much!

mspawa 2017-08-11 02:48

I really love this kind of games! It was so much fun to play it (I think I'll keep it in my bookmarks!). It was hard fo me to find the sewer but when I finally managed to locate it... it was so so so far from me!! So I had to gather a LOT of water and then run as hell to them xD And I did it! A Victory for me! xD I love the art! It looks like a pro game, so congratulations for your artist. I love the enemies, the props and the UI.

Really good game!! Congratulations guys :)

Amazing game. Quite polished and fun!

Loved the mechanics, graphics and audio. The Dungeon Crawler + Tile Placement combo was quite interesting. I don't think I've seen that combination before.

I really had fun playing your game. It was a really interesting experience. One of the best entries I've seen this LD indeed.

Congratulations!

That was a nice little puzzler, with a charming theme and a wide audience appeal. It would be fantastic on a mobile or a tablet. Very enjoyable and one of the few truly complete games in the jam.

Beautifull game. Great work. I really love the art style.

This should definitely be taken further from the LDjam space, it's really worth it already. Mechanics are hard but fun and it really feels like a complete game.

Enjoyed this and impressed at how polished it all feels. One of the most polished entries I've played so far. Liked the art a lot and the humorous vibe it all seemed to have. Also a nice touch that you've made it in a way that modding is possible.

At first, I thought that there are too many elements in the game (scary tutorial!) but then all them combined in an understandable mechanics. Build your path --> fight enemies / get power-ups --> scan --> get close to the exit.

The only thing I did not understand is how to actually exit the level. There was a square hinting at the location of the exit... So I need to build a path that can be prolonged right to the exit point? If yes, how do I know where to build the road from the start?

Kudos for a variety of enemies and the prototype resonates with the theme. Would play a post-jam version. Cheers!

I like the graphics and mechanics goes well with the theme. I think you should add more that 3 options to build roads, but overall great entry.

Very nice. Fits the theme very well!
