LD39 — Running out of Power

The Fifth Exponent by axoona 2017-08-02T06:58:08Z

This game captures the 90's point&click atmosphere really well! Too bad there's no music or sfx whatsoever, I'd really like to hear some midi sounds. Interesting puzzle mechanic but the game depends on trial and error maybe a little bit too much. Anyway good work!

Mortal_Divide by samt2510 2017-08-02T10:14:31Z

The file is 237 megabytes, is it intended to be that big?

Running out of pow(d)er by Anders Holmberg 2017-08-02T10:35:47Z

This was actually surprisingly fun and addicting to play! The increasing customer amounts make the game's difficulty curve rise up nicely and there are even some tactical choices to do (I felt like the best tactic was to try to keep the individual stocks as even as possible). Even though the basic idea of the game is pretty much the same as in Tapper it was still fun and the setting was different and sort of comical (100% sale and still keeping the store open, hah). The intro screen was a nice addition and the game had a polished feel to it. The music was fitting and I really liked the graphical style, sort of reminds me of Stardew Valley. Not sure about how well the theme corresponds with the game though, but overall, good job!

Disaster On Nebula One by RAC-Games 2017-08-03T06:50:45Z

Can't believe you made this in 72 hours :) Looks awesome and it has intro and tutorial level and everything! Only downside was that it runs *reallllly* bad on my pc for some reason. Nobody else seems to have commented on that so the problem must be on my end.

Anyway, solid 2d platforming!

Guardian Stone by Mr.MadCat 2017-08-02T06:37:27Z

Surprisingly captivating! I love the intro, reminds me of Legend of Zelda-series, especially the Wind Waker. The dialogue is great and there's some good humour. Unfortunately I got stuck at the bookshelf "puzzle", I'm not sure what the goal was because there are no hints and I don't remember if the character said something useful before the puzzle started. I tried to put the books in alphabetical order but that didn't work :(

Space Evaders by Tanay 2017-08-01T19:08:55Z

Is the game unfinished? I kept flying around the space but nothing happened, I just chucked around some mines but no enemies ever appeared? The help button in-game didn't do anything either.

I like the art style. The static camera is awful for platforming game, you can't see where you land your jumps at all. The laser platforms were especially really annoying. There's no real incentive for collecting the coins, it's hard to pick them up and you can't even see how many you have collected. Maybe put a counter on the screen and make them float to you when you're nearby? The hint texts are hard to read and you can skip parts of the level by walking on the edges. The laser beams and some other assets need some more immersive graphics but hey, it's a game for a jam so I'm gonna cut you some slack :)

And btw the description says there's 2 levels? I don't know how to enter the second one, there's just this kiosk in the second scene selling something I can't afford and I don't know what to do.

THIRST by Togis 2017-08-03T06:40:36Z

Interesting concept! The path construction reminds me of a boardgame called Saboteur. Love the art style and the whole game seems really polished, good work!

Icarus by Jaakko 2017-08-02T12:47:01Z

Nice interpretation for the theme! The webGL version is bugged on my pc, the minimap is covering the whole screen.

Fear Of The Dark by ArttuK 2017-08-01T10:38:42Z

@vehem: Thanks for the feedback! You are correct, the night vision doesn't do much after a few upgrades - I thought about just hiding the button after 2 or 3 steps because there's no point in upgrading it anymore. Increasing the light range would make sense though! The energy depletion rate is already handled by the "energy" upgrade.

We might do some small additions/fixes to the game afterwards but probably nothing major because all of us are going to be quite busy with other projects soon.

@wesxdz: Thanks! Yes, having more enemy types is probably on top of the "to-do" list.

@eximarus: That's actually something I was supposed to work on but kinda forgot / ran out of time to fix. You probably noticed that you can keep the mouse button pressed to shoot so the accidental clicks on the upgrade buttons should be somewhat eliminated.

@quemagalletas: Thanks! Yeah, some sort of visual cue for taking damage should definitely be there.

@thorneto: Haha, glad you found the flashlight because it's such a crucial mechanic to the game. I'm not sure what you mean by a visible cursor? There should be a cursor on the web version too.

**For the rest: Thanks for all the positive feedback and for the constructive criticism!**

Fear Of The Dark by ArttuK 2017-08-02T20:45:39Z

@Lawrence Thanks! I agree with you - the more I see people play the game the more obvious it seems that some upgrades should be more effective.

@Knorz: Thank you and will do!

Fear Of The Dark by ArttuK 2017-08-03T06:52:24Z

@togis And thank you for streaming all those great games, was fun to watch!

On Demand: Power by Remus 2017-08-03T09:27:52Z

Good effort! The game definitely needs some kind of a minimap or markers for enemies because I spend about half of the time trying to find the last couple of enemies each wave. I'm not sure if having 3(?) separate shops is a good idea, one would be enough.

Möbius Trap by RedNW 2017-08-01T09:02:00Z

I like the theme and the art style, controlling the ship was a little bit hard at first but you get used to it. Some music would be nice and the laser sound gets a bit repetitive. Also some sort of feedback for hitting the enemies would be good (an animation as you mentioned and a sound effect). Overall a nice experience!

QRTTNBPBYTROAYALID! by Pip Turner 2017-08-01T10:50:55Z

Nice little endless runner game! I like the entrance animation and how the character just casually enters a dark dungeon to do his morning jogging routine (or something along those lines, that's just my interpretation). Took me a while to realize there's a double jump! Sometimes the battery packs seem to spawn so far from each other that there's practically no chance to reach the next one (or maybe I'm just that awful). Overall a nice experience!

RedScript - Out of BrainZ by Rafael Souza 2017-08-01T09:25:25Z

Nice graphics and I like how polished the game seems (intro and ending etc). I just wish the actual level was longer or there were multiple levels but overall a nice experience! I'm not sure about it but I think the positions of the enemies don't reset after each run because sometimes you can run straight for the barrel and sometimes you have to wait for the knife dudes to go out of the way. Just a minor inconvenience though.

TITAN, Defend Earth before it's too late by MichaelTWG 2017-08-01T09:17:21Z

Great art style and atmosphere and also a really innovative design! I feel like the flamethrower is too far away from the generator compared to the hand cannon to be usable but I guess it's more effective if you use the shield to group up the enemies in front of the machine first?
