Nice style and idea! Well polished!

johnnysix 2023-10-02 23:14

This is the win screen - though it' a Jam I ran out of time :anguished:

Cool game with a neat concept! I really like the mechanics, though I struggled a lot with jumping while drawing a box, especially when the camera moves (the level with the switches that activate while bounded). With a better camera or a easier way to select the bounds this would be amazing

jesus-gonzalez 2023-10-02 23:44

4.5/5 Really good

cheesepencil 2023-10-03 04:11

I struggled with drawing the box, it really, *really* wants you to draw from the top left to the bottom right and my instinct most of the time was the opposite, which doesn't work very well.

Cute puzzler! I love the little kitty guy and his quest for the lightning

johnnysix 2023-10-03 19:07

@alex-duh & @cheesepencil - I had a total brain fart with the box drawing and massively overcomplicated what should literally be a bounding box describing a line. :anguished: I will do a post-dare version with this fixed, and most importantly, after playing on my son's tablet, less particles so it doesn't run at 10fps

meru 2023-10-03 22:12

Its Great that it is playable on mobile. I really liked the idea. The drawing of the box should be easier, though, as mentioned before. Please Continue to work on it. It has Potential.

johnnysix 2023-10-03 22:15

V2 with a less stupid box-drawing system coming shortly

man this is really good. good graphics with good music. some levels were hard but enjoyed it. would be a plus to have a hints option in each level.

janinna21 2023-10-03 22:18

🌟 Wow! First off, hats off to the style and idea behind this game – it's sleek and wonderfully polished. Everything from the aesthetics to the mechanics just oozes charm! 🎨✨

Now, diving a little deeper, I absolutely adore the misadventures of our tiny kitty hero on his epic journey to snag that elusive lightning! And that winning animation? Pure comedic gold. Had me chuckling to myself! 😺⚡️

However, there was one teeny hiccup I encountered. When I tried drawing the box, it seemed to strongly prefer that classic top-left to bottom-right motion. My artsy instincts were just naturally inclined to do the opposite, which felt a bit counter-intuitive. Maybe it's something you could consider tweaking in the future?

Regardless, this delightful puzzler brightened up my day.

petr-vejchoda 2023-10-03 22:26

I struggled a lot even with the third level. Its an interesting idea, but with keyboard and mouse, it gets frustrating quite quickly. Loved the concept though.

pixeltaku 2023-10-03 22:35

Really great idea, execution leaves a bit to be desired. The mouse AND platforming was a bit much, at least on trackpad. Eh, well, actually I think the main issue is the tracking of the box. Even after clicking it had a tendency to drift off of where I initially placed it, leading to some unfair deaths. That combined with the camera fighting me made it hard to continue, which SUCKS cause the concept is SO GOOD! Great graphics too, it's crazy that you solo'd this in 50 hours :D

mar-zockmeister 2023-10-04 00:22

Very cool and novel idea! It's really something new and also like it that you can actually use the box to avoid the traps. As others said, the combination of keyboard and mouse and also that you have adjust a lot might be exhausting in larger levels. Maybe a solution would be to allow to draw a sequence of boxes or something like that...

lintfordpickle 2023-10-04 11:07

ah love the concept, and the art and audio are very well done. Amazing work for 50 hours. as others already mentioned (and you said will be fixed in v2) - the only issue I had was drawing the top top-right to bottom left, but other than that, the game played great.

Well done

quasilyte 2023-10-05 11:02

The graphics are amazing for a solo game. You really showed your skills in all the areas: from sound to graphics. The game gives enough visual and sound cues to help the player. The level design is good as well. I think I saw 2 more platformers with comparable mechanics this jam, but here you have to draw the zone yourself and this sets it apart.

andreadbx 2023-10-05 22:10

Cute game! The mechanic is intresting, the dragging has some clunkyness to it but its surprisingly well done for a solo dev, congrats!

loiclegrosfrere 2023-10-05 22:34

I like it, but as I said, with the mouse, level 6 was really difficult... I think if the larger area created in the movement is kept, that would solve the problem (at least, it would be enough to focus on the starting square, then the direction, rather than the finishing square).

There's no level 7, or I didn't get a metagame in the menu?

(I'm in love with the left/right blocked animation, I'm really feeling the cat :joy_cat: )

f1krazy 2023-10-07 09:33

This is great, especially for what's essentially a Compo game! It took me a few moments to figure out what I was actually supposed to do - an explanation of the game mechanics in the description would have been appreciated - but once I figured it out I was hooked. Figuring out how to get from A to B in small steps is surprisingly tricky at times, and I gave up entirely on the final level because I have no idea how you're even supposed to get past the first spike pit, let alone the rest of the level. It'd be easy if not for the toggling blocks...

Great job! I'd love to see more of this in the future, it has great potential to be expanded out into a larger game.

Fixes are coming. ezgif.com-optimize(3).gif

edward-dassmesser 2023-10-10 04:06

Pretty much just amazing. Absolutely love the take on the theme. Also the cat scratching at the edge of the box... :kissing_cat: :ok_hand:

mofox 2023-10-10 10:28

It is a wonderful idea!It is difficult to create a good game but you did it!

sbeif 2023-10-11 14:27

This is amazing, very good idea, I especially loved level 6 (although it's very hard) with the toggling blocks mechanic. Very clever addition to the design. The game is extremely polished for a game jam, definitely in my top 3

digitaldude555 2023-10-13 22:40

Great concept, love the paw scratching animation. Like others said the box drawing is quite frustrating, but otherwise the game is fun. Music and sound effects are also pretty satisfying.

johnnysix 2023-10-13 22:52

I can't seem to add to the page, but for the frustrated users - there's a v2

For those that ( probably everyone actually ) struggled with the box-drawing mechanic and jank. @sbeif / @f1krazy / @proz / @meru / @alex-duh / @lintfordpickle / @janinna21 / @cheesepencil

The idea is fantastically original, the sound is good and graphics too. But the gameplay is too difficult. I only passed the first level, but in the second it seemed impossible to advance. Sometimes the mechanics of the designed box don't seem to work. So it wasn't fun, although the mechanic and idea is one of the most original and faithful to the theme of this jam.

johnnysix 2023-10-14 20:18

@lincolnsalles - I play through the levels in the video - the core concept is you're limited to a box , which itself is limited in area. You can move the cat through manipulating the size and placement of the box.

redoxeide 2023-10-18 01:38

You are right, we kind of did similar concepts !

I really love the graphics and animations. The cat scratching the box when it can't move is such a great detail. The polish in this game is great. The particles, the effects on player death, it's all great!

If anything, I would maybe add a checkpoint to some of the longer levels.

On the post-jam version: - Being able to drag the boxes is very good, but it felt a little intruding when trying to quickly draw a new box on top of the old one. Maybe have a dedicated mouse button for each function, or allow to resize boxes by dragging corners? - It's a little hard to see the switches that are inside the walls on lvl 4. - I got stuck on lvl 4 standing on one of the "doors" and deactivating the button, and I couldn't find a way to reset the level. Capture.PNG - Other than that, I love the new art and effects!

Overall, great job! Keep it up!

yo Johnny! I decided to give my impressions in video form this time:
