I enjoyed it! I only wish it were easier to tell the enemy types apart
@theflanman Thank you for the comment. I noticed the same issue as soon as I added the final models haha. Tried to salvage it by adding different helmet hair designs.
I liked the game, maybe if it continue to work it could be better! <3
This was a GREAT idea for a game! Definitely felt some Total War influence with the unit deployment. Fun idea and well executed- good job!
Dude, that's actually clever as hell. Nice job getting it on browser, too.
This was fantastic. I loved the music and the gameplay was really good.
It is a nice game. I can see that you spend so much effort making those model. The music is quite super as well. The game play mechanic is a little bit tricky though, I can't seem to get the mouse into the right position with the right amount of soldier. the soldier type is also hard to distinguish, maybe adjust the lighting a bit.
Love the idea!
I did find it difficult to tell what the incoming units were, especially when it wasn't fullscreen. Also, I think the placement/rotation of the units could use some work; it was difficult to tell where the units would be placed when starting a click-drag event...
Appreciate the feedback! Will likely steal more ideas from Total War and place a Flag above unit formations that clearly define the unit type and maybe strength as well. The drawing mechanic can certainly use some more work as well.
Epic game)
Great game! I lasted 4 minutes but screwed myself in first moment by having too much fun spawning troops xD I really liked the design and concept! It could work really well with multiple levels and different waves, more enemies perhaps (more combinations)? It could do really well with just a bit more content if you develop it in the future! It is really fun game! Also love the visuals and character designs! Great work! :D
@janku thanks so much for playing and reviewing! 5 minutes is where it gets real crazy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Great game! As said before maybe the enemies should be easier to tell apart, but super great entry!!
@roughskin thanks for the feedback, I would like to improve the visuals. I need to read up on the rules for that. Assuming we need to wait on scoring to be set/done.
@janku & @pwnofprophecy maybe some highscore leaderboard feature would be good to add later on. Curious to see how far people can get in theory.
Wow RTS games are a ton of work, you actually pulled it off. Well done! I had a tough time figuring out how to aim the unit formations, but they mostly pointed in the directions I wanted them to go. Except my first game's first placement which was a giant pile of horses that just ran off the screen. That was pretty funny.
Gg for the huge work ! It's quite difficult to place unit's in the good direction and numbers but the gameplay is intersting ! :D GG all !
Nice! Making an RTS - no matter how simple - within such a short time constraint is a great deed.
Very cool game and impressive for the short duraiton of game jam! I liked how you simplified the RTS mechanics into rock-paper-scissors style. Really like how you are rewarded with units over time to prevent spamming. My only complaints is that it can be hard to tell units apart and the mouse placement felt weird, itd expect it to place units under my mouse but there was some offset. Overal really enjoyed it!
I really like the idea - updated to take some static troops and different formations this could be a good full release.
If I were to make a suggestion to improve it, it would be that there are some returns for killing enemy troops, and those returns are changed based on distance from commander, would help with scaling as the game goes on I think.
But pretty polished submission, a good concept, and I think what's there is good!
@njs thanks for the feedback. We did toy around with the idea of our resources being tied to your performance like kills give you back units. Obviously due to time constraints we went for a simple replenish rate which was easier to build and design for. Appreciate the interest and will consider expanding this to a more feature complete version in the future.
@lvl99chicken thank you for your feedback. The formations and their placements were a huge challenge to build. But we learned a lot from the atempt and have some ideas on how to improve it in the future so it's more intuitive for the user.
I liked the Age of Empires style of balance and it also reminded me of that old Warcraft III and SC2 defense map.
Nice graphics.
i like the dynamic screen shots you but the top down view doesn't do the art justice. Dynamic camera might be cool if possible in future builds. The mouse controls for dragging are good but i feel it needs some tweaking to improve the accuracy. Another thing that might help is the attack or death vfx, It's kind of missing a indication they are getting wiped out. cheers.
Cool 3D animations and definitely fun to play! Very easy game mechanics that's easy to understand. Great job!
@phats604 thanks so much for trying it out! You're 100% right on all counts, to the degree we actually tried to implement all of those things along the way. Sadly just didn't make the cut for the time limit of the jam, but maybe in the future? Cheers!
Wow! This is really very cool! You are very cool.
Nicely done. Very fun entry. Good music too. Tried quite a few times. :-)
this is cool, did a good job of making total war style formations. did find it difficult to tell the spearmen and swordsmen apart
@getsky NO U
Cool game, reminds me of 90s strategy games!
That was great. A fun, well polished experience. I lasted 6 minutes. The artwork was great, its a shape the camera angle makes it hard to appreciate the character models properly. I think it may have been better if the squads remain centred where you first click, I kept moving them too far to the side when making larger groups.
@someone that's a pretty good suggestion! I will have to toy around with it and see how it plays but I like the idea so far. Thanks for the feedback!
It took a little bit of play to get the unit countering order under my belt, but I enjoyed the game. Great job!
So nice idea. And lots of fun to play. Don't get fully how to rotate the direction but its mayby my :)
Cheers
You made a very good game in this short amount of time! I featured it in part one of my let's play series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YpXlNnSS0s
@erkberg thanks so much man! It's an honor!
first of all, reminds me age of empires, the troops coming and i have to survive, nice catch. survived 3:40 and im happy with this score, because the game is not HARD, he's challenger and i like it! nice game! hold the line.png
Game was fun and have much potential. With that here are a few gameplay issues I had:
1. I felt like I couldn't decide in which way to send my units and "got lucky" when I sent them in the right direction.
2. Maybe a missed it but I couldn't find a way to decide how big the unit I deploy is.
3. This is just a suggestion: I wish I could control my unit path after launch to further my strategic ability in the game.
@erkberg thank you so much! Glad you liked the game! @effe practice makes perfect :P
@shmador to your point, the unit size doesn't matter too much, a ballpark guess would do the trick. Assuming you counter the enemy troops, you would win most fights. We did consider further troop control but we had to scrap it for sake of time implementing and designing but certainly a way to grow the game in scope. Thanks for the feedback
I love this! I love RTS! I love UNIT! I LOVE YOU
@conroy WE LOVE YOU TOO
Very creative idea. The enemies are a little hard to distinguish, but otherwise really cool game. Great job!
Creative new spin on the "rock paper scissors" principle!
Neat game - well done - like the idea that they just keep coming
I really like it but the controls were a little hard to use
I liked it! I agree with some others who mention problems with the legibility of the unit types and the looseness of the spawn controls, but overall I loved the graphics and core gameplay and enjoyed it a lot!
Loved this game very much. As you get used to the spawning controls, you will actually start to see the depth of this game: timings, placements, amounts needed, etc. The only thing I wish you could add is some sort of cursor change/highlight for the selected unit type so I don't have to check the bottom of the screen (but maybe it's just me with my shitty peripheral vision xD).
A very cool entry! It really reminds me of mods made for older classics such as Warcraft III.
I had quite a hard time placing units - especially getting them to the right rotation. Either I did not understand the placement system correctly or it was something weird on the web version.
Cool! Reminded me of Total war a little. Feels like something I'd need to practice a little more to get the hang of it. I found it difficult to control which direction the soldiers move in.
It looks really cool!
Fun concept! kept wanting to click on the unit icons to change my units - also the rotation control took a little bit to get used to. Good job!
very nice game! I didn't realise that classic rock-paper-scissore can be that fun. I think it could be quite easily turned into a good mobile game. Good job!
Really cool concept, I just got overwhelmed very quickly. I found myself running out of troops to deploy and then constantly placing single troops down. A way for troops to replenish faster would be amazing! Nice game!
Sick game! Felt really optimized on my pc at least, never dipped below 60 even with all the units on the screen and I know that's hard to get right in an RTS.
Nicely done! The concept and mechanics feel fun, I really like how you have to angle your troops to intercept attackers. I like the graphics too. Just two notes: it's a little hard to tell the unit types apart when they're in play, and it was difficult to get used to the controls for deployment. I would recommend something like: click to set position, move to set troop angle (compared to original position) and group size (distance from original position). Overall, though, very cool and fun!
Wooo I loved this. Super fun and tense. I got 6:13. I love the rock, paper, scissors strategy and troop placement aspect of the game. I tried so many different ways to maximize my damage by trying to place troops so that they could take out two or more units.
Awesome awesome awesome
@russ-moonbase thanks so much for playing!
Excellently balanced gameplay! The RPS aspect is pretty obvious as to what you should be doing. That gets you over the initial hump of getting into the game. But the REAL juice is figuring out *exactly* how many units you should be placing to conserve your resources. That, in addition to fact that you can run into army sections that field multiple units, results in a surprisingly high skill ceiling for such a simple mechanic.
I honestly think you can take this concept a lot further. This is a good game to reference for campaign ideas if you decide to do a full version: https://armorgames.com/winter-falling-price-of-life-game/18961
@peachtreeoath thank you for the feedback and sharing that reference. Yes we have through of other ways to expand the game. I think it would be fun to have a lighter and more fast paced version of total war that is fully battle focused. Perhaps some prototyping and inspired references can help us get something more feature complete out.
And thanks to everyone for the feedback. Please come back to check out the game in a week or so after scoring is done. We have a number of improvements to add to the game based on feedback.
An ambitious concept for a jam game, but you pulled it off nicely. The troop AI works really well. Directional alignment while placing the units is a bit wonky, but otherwise the controls work as expected. UI could use some design improvements, but the graphical style of the gameplay looks refreshingly unique. It would have been nice to have a more dynamic camera/view so one could admire the action from closer rather than being fixed to a birds-eye-view. There seems to be nice animation work and detail on the troops, but they are hard to see when the camera is situated far up. All in all great job tho. Keep it up!
