Really fun game with nice mechanics
cute, reminds me of the 'no-coin' challenges in the newer super mario games
This is a good concept, making your character heavier and that affecting what you could do. I imagined a game where you make choices about when to collect the gold and what order. There could be some interesting trade-offs between payoff and agility. Unfortunately I spent almost all of the time just walking back from the start of the level and repeating everything whenever I made a mistake, which was a lot, and so I didn't really get the chance to experience that.
It also took me a few walk backs to figure out you could dash in the air. Maybe I don't play enough platformers but that was not something I have seen before and so it was not something I tried until I had died a couple of times and realised there must've been some other trick. The sign said "Shift to Dash" so I kept pressing it trusting the sign wouldn't lead me astray. It would've helped if I could see the island on the other side and the goal I was aiming for.
I think for one thing, you can teach jumping without falling off cliffs - the player could just jump over things in the tutorial - then it is safer and there is not so great of a cost of getting it wrong. Then the respawn could be closer to the mistake, if that were possible.
Anyway, with all that said, it is a clever concept.
Cute game, but did not hold back with the difficulty at all. I struggled to beat the first level. đ
Very cute game, it was very challenging but still a lot of fun, enjoyed a lot.
cool game and a good use of the ludum dere prompt. Gameplay is smooth, and dashing about is really fun!
well done! I think the theme is interpreted pretty clever. It's a very good idea that collecting stuff makes you weaker. Forces some interesting decisions between taking the coin or leaving it for an easier exit. Is it generally possible to collect every coin and still make it to the end of every level (certainly not for me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)?
@raysplaceinspace Appreciate the feedback. All our previous game jams we just had a massive wall of text for tutorials so this is our first real tutorial level so we will use that for the next game jam.
That's a nice twist not to have to collect everything in order to be able to complete a level. I like how the player must break out of the conditioning to pick up everything. There's some nice strategy and risk/reward pondering to complete certain levels. The momentum mechanic with the slope was a bit hard to catch though, but all in all it's a cool game
I like the game mechanics and the player movement feels satisfying.
Liked the mechanics
Great game, enjoyed playing it!
Solid game. The background art was nicely done, and I feel an early onset PTSD from the slimes. Well done!
Interesting concept paired with good level designs and mechanics, had a lot of fun playing through this.
This is a cute and cool idea with some good decision making moments along the way. Great job!
Great work! Love the built-in tutorial with learn-as-you-go style, the sounds, music, art style, and the whole mechanic of "don't collect everything" is very clever. Major props.
My only complaint is I'm not very good  I got pretty far (I think), but would usually barely miss the mark and get sent back to start. The mechanic that most frustrated me was landing on a slope causing me to slide down, usually into an enemy, so no matter how precisely I landed, I'd spill my coins. Perhaps this was totally intended and I just need to get good haha.
Again, great work!
Nice, but really hard ... for me :-s.
Surprisingly, the game is quite engaging and challenging to play. I think the level design could be improved, but I really like the number and variety of levels. The visuals are good, and the sound effects are pleasant too. The only thing I didnât fully understand was the main goal â it seems like the idea should be to collect coins (since youâre a goblin and the jam theme is âcollectorâ), but in practice, you actually want to collect as few as possible, since they slow you down â and there are no clear win conditions for completing a level xD
:'( But I want all the coins!! Nice game! Good mechanic idea! Nice sprites. And great level design! Each level made sense and was interesting. It all progressed quite well.
I love the idea of a goblin making it s own life harder and harder because he just can t resist collecting more gold. As a player i always had the urge to complete a level with as much gold as possible. Even if i needed a few extra trys to complete a level. Goblin.PNG How did i do fellow goblins?
Oh man, the greediness required to maximize the coin count was fascinating.
I recorded myself playing to provide extra feedback! Cheers!

It took me a moment to understand the idea - the fact that you shouldnât collect the coins feels funny and unexpected. The core mechanic is solid, and the level design has a nice amount of variety. Momentum can be a bit tricky to control, especially on the level where you have to fly over the gap at the start - it would feel smoother if it built up not only after jumping. I really liked the background art. Good game, nice work guys!
Very cool game! Loved the coin management mechanic, though I was just avoiding as many coins as possible by the last couple levels haha. The level design was great, such a variety of levels using all the abilities of the goblin. But I gotta say the difficulty ramped up very fast and some levels took me a ton of tries. Maybe a couple more levels easing the player into the more difficult ones would help or maybe I'm just bad.
Anyway great job, loved the game! game_cap.PNG
Phew, that was tough. I beat the game with 159 coins. The goal seems to be to avoid all the coins where possible as there seems to be no benefits of collecting more. It was just too tough and unforgiving to attempt to maximise a score. I do like the weight penalty mechanic though. Perhaps if the levels were designed more towards collecting as many coins as possible rather than just attempt to get to the end?
The slime hit boxes seemed to be far larger than they should be which made things harder. The level that starts with two slimes then long jump onto a single block gave me the most trouble. The ones after that were not so bad and the last couple were very easy.
@100th-coin Thanks for the video feedback that was great to watch. We did go back and forth on putting a minimum coin required to complete the level, but thought it would be unnecessary in the end. Some levels were designed intentionally as you saw to force you to maintain certain mechanics. Glad you went for a high coin run as this was really our intention we just did not want to force it since the game can be challenging especially with getting most of the coins. Unfortunately you did get a lot of the unity collider stuff putting you in walls. I have had this problem every game jam and cant ever seem to find a good fix for it, maybe unity will make colliders work one day
Having to restart completely when losing during the tutorial made it difficult for me to continue. Especially since you're still learning the mechanics and the weight of everything. I would've liked more checkpoints or an environment where I can learn without such a big punishment
Pleasant sounds, good art, the levels are built gradually, which is good, but the controls don't feel good when you're slowed down and deprived of your abilities.
Very challenging platformer! I wish there was a way to drop off the coins and go back to pickup more, maybe getting hit could knock the coins out of you sonic style instead of killing you instantly could add for some interesting moments.
This is really interesting! I've played soooooooooo many Ludum Dare games about collecting as much as you can, and this game is absolutely about the opposite. It's a breath of fresh air for sure!
Very hard! Was the idea to avoid the coins? Because I tried that.
Nice entry, I'm really bad at these games so I couldn't get very far but I loved the immersive tutorials bits. Overall I kept dying when it felt like I should still be able to jump, especially with double jump, back up out of a hole. But other than that, I really liked it. And I absolutely loved the backgrounds, they were perfect! Well done!
