This game is fun!

nightmaresdev 2018-12-03 08:54

I enjoy the simplistic style. Gives it quite the nice look to it :D

slizzben 2018-12-03 09:10

Nice job. I like it. 1 bug - when you dragg a tree and it's grow, the default position of it set to the place where it were at this moment

apace 2018-12-03 09:40

@Raphnika Thanks!

@nightmaresdev Thank you. :) I tried to keep it consistent, given the lack of my drawing abilities. I hope it isn't too much of a turn-off.

@slizzben Thanks! I'm glad you only found one bug, because I'm sure there's more. ;) I appreciate the bug report though!

The minimalistic style is amazing! Good job

A really nice creation! Had a good time playing it. The simple pixel art looks great and the game concept is cool. Congrats :D

I really liked the concept. Your art is minimalist, but the animations and sounds are on point! I like the complexity of the weather system and day/night cycle too, very nice touches. Having said that I think there are a few things that are holding this game back from being even better: I felt like the gameplay was somewhat slow. At first I thought I had to drag villagers around to make them do things, but apparently everything happens automatically (Maybe that first thing could be a great suggestion?), so there is a lot of downtime. The second thing is that I feel that there is not enough feedback as to what the gods like and don't like. Sometimes something good happens after you've sacrificed something, but mostly nothing occurs. I also think their diets change after a while? At first one of my gods loved trees, and then I gave him some later and he burned down my house (the bastard!). Anyway, overall I really liked the game, and the depth you've put into it. Good job on making it and I hope this feedback was somehow helpful! :D

@kultisti Thanks! I like your game's graphics better though. Funny thing, our pixel fonts look almost exactly alike!

@game-mon Thank you. :)

@virtual-turtle-studio I really appreciate the elaborate feedback! I completely agree that there's not a whole lot to do, especially in the beginning (and as soon as you know the tastes of the deities). Extending this with some RTS elements, to make you command the villagers and control the village of your own is definitely a good idea. It just wasn't in the scope of the jam for me. :D I can see how the feedback is lacking! Definitely. This was actually one of the problems I already found while playtesting, and I remedied it a bit by adding some particle effects for a few of the gods' actions. There's certainly not feedback for all actions in there yet, and also gods may react "neutral" to a sacrifice and don't do anything. But I deliberately stayed away from explicitly telling the player whether the god liked something or not (with a satisfaction meter or something alike), because I thought it'd be more fun if the player had to guess from the environmental changes. But yes, I can see where my thought went wrong! Thanks for the useful feedback and the kind words. :)

@apace You didnt go 'wrong' anywhere, haha. Its just one big learning experience and you made an awesome game in the time you had. You should be proud of yourself! As we should al be for participating :D

Simple and fun loved it man

jharler 2018-12-05 13:57

The visuals are simple, but effective and coherent. I love the sound effects. So many entries are omitting sounds and to me, sounds are needed to round out the experience. I did run into a bug (I think) where many days had passed (something like 20) and there were only two villagers. I don't know what I was doing wrong, I tried to keep the resources as even as I could. Very likely I played it wrong, but just thought I'd put that out there. Overall, this is a nice game. Good job!

koemeterion 2018-12-05 14:51

Dont know why, but this one is one of my favourites so far. I like the simple graphics, the sounds and the gameplay/gamelogic. Well done!

daniel-abeleira 2018-12-05 17:18

Good job I love those simple graphics

codesity 2018-12-05 19:08

owen-rees 2018-12-05 19:15

I played this game for a while but I had no idea how to make the villagers reproduce

apace 2018-12-05 19:37

@mrwillowb @koemeterion @daniel-abeleira @codesity Thanks a lot! @jharler Thanks for the nice comment. :) I am sorry that it was too confusing for you, I agree the gameplay is not quite obvious. (See explanation below)

@owen-rees Sorry! So, the main problem is that you do not have to do anything in order for the villagers to reproduce. The village runs on its own. The only thing you have to do is provide the gods with sacrifices.

Why the villagers might not have reproduced: you did not have enough housing - one house can support two villagers. If you have twice the amount of villagers than you have houses, they will not reproduce. They not only need housing though, they also need food. The food is shown in the GUI on the right (top icon) and depends on the number of crops and the number of sheep. Every villager needs "one food". What can also happen is that you gave the goddess of love (Menocha) something she didn't like. Then some "no-love" particles appear in the village and no love action is gonna happen until you give Menocha something she likes more.
