Man you make cool game, nice idea 5/5!!!
The game is amazing. I played it straight through to the end, the final level had me on the edge! I think this game is incredibly polished and set on solid mechanics. The ramping difficulty was fair and gave me a lot of time to get comfortable with the basic mechanics and controls before introducing more complex challenges like combat. The level design was superb and I really liked how intuitive the controls were, being able to use both "shoot" and "fire" to fire the gun is a great example of how you guys put focus on the player experience.
Overall the game is fantastic. Great job.
A very enjoyable entry, I played through to the end! I've done a few text command controlled games tonight but this has been far the best example. The music and sound effects were absolutely perfect and helped make the whole thing feel great to play. Obviously it would be nice to see the main player animated one day, but you did a great job in the time you had. The only thing I would of added is a command line style pressing up arrow cycles through previous commands - also cardinal directions (north south west east) are a classic staple of old text adventures and I found myself typing them from muscle memory of years of old games and online MUD's etc - it would be nice if you supported them! :)
Hilarious idea! I keep imagining what kind of absurd situation it actually is for the player. This could be even funnier with the addition of jumping, moving things around, or maybe surprise teleports. But given the limited time, you already did very well, especially in designing a number of maps of increasing difficulty. And the music is not too shabby, either. Was it especially made for the game? By the way: What is the benefit of shooting containers?
@Merrow Thank you for the positive feedback. Yes the music was made especially for the game and there is no real benefit of shooting containers, other than getting them out of the way. Yeah you could go further with the game by adding various elements, like you mentioned. I also thought of a few after the jam has ended.
@hs-dave Thank you! We also thought about iterating through old commands, but couldn't decide if the player would be overusing this function so we didn't take the risk and dropped that feature. But you can copy and paste commands ;) I have implemented cardinal directions now, thanks (will be uploaded in a past-ludumdare update).
This provided me with a frantic experience. I was typing for my life! You've put a great amount of thought into making it difficult but not frustrating. Great job.
If you type "7" it loads the next level btw!
@fidrik Pssssst...! ;)
Wow really clever game, i liked it a lot. It is very well implemented good job.
I had fun, and beat the game. It was enjoyable, though it did feel a bit like a tutorial that never got to the real game.
If you want to take the game beyond Ludum Dare, you might need to rethink the gameplay a bit. In its current state, the game feels mostly like a basic shooter where your actions are limited by your typing speed. The one time it felt like something new to me was when I tried typing "right aim up", which felt badass.
Maybe it could be more of a puzzle game? Or maybe limit your actions with a cooldown instead of simply by how fast you can type?
By the way, I found a small bug. I tried typing "shoot 7" and went to the next level because it had a 7 in it.
But overall, nicely done.
The graphics are very nicely done, and the game difficulty hits a nice balance between not being too easy but not too frustrating either.
Something about your level design and commands led me to think, however, that the game makes more sense being on a grid-based movement system. I would still keep it realtime, however.
Good job!
Nice little shooter. Had fun playing but it did feel a bit bland after a while. I have the same issue with my game where the amount of success is limited by the typing speed of the player. I think you could fix that by make a puzzle game possibly, limit the number of lines typed and actions per line and I think that would make for a cool puzzle shooter.
Nice jam entry and cool concept, great job!
