LD42 — Running out of space

POLYARNIK by icxon 2018-08-19T16:33:44Z

Lol first game ever where i found kicking animals satisfying. Fun factor and graphics are great here. Minor issues: - Pacing could be like 1.5x faster - There is a technique to leave boxes on the most common edges and block penguins getting into the island - Also scoring is kinda weird, because i'm not sure whats more important - points, or getting 12 boxes into the ship? I feel like I should keep 11/12 boxes status and score more points

caelique by Rother Games 2018-08-14T14:58:36Z

Cool idea for a time-killing game app

To follow the idea more there should be a lots of trash in space to attach the rope to.

Things to improve - visibility of the goal - when its off the screen I dunno where to go. - "sponginess" of movement (bit more inertia, player model momentum and centrifugal force would be nice) - main hero animations - map on M not ESC  - controls info - no clue that A moves the guy, and ENTER leaves intro screen.

nice touch with "holding hands"

Reaper Boy LD42 (Remix) Edition by jessefreeman 2018-08-14T15:45:13Z

uhm, i have a difficulty to run the game on windows. Black box, no sound, no response for any input :(

@jessefreeman installer says that i already have this version of NET in the system

Family Computer by somnolentPumpkin 2018-08-14T16:29:41Z

Cute story. Bit too linear tho to be considered as a game. Love the art. I really want to run all those virtudog apps to see whats the fuzz about.

Better Than Thanos by Vekstr 2018-08-14T15:30:12Z

nice graphics and sound!

Feedback: - something else to do than click, would be a nice addition - any advantage of small brush? - maybe add some places that you *cant* destroy? like reserves or forests

Runventory by fusionnist 2018-08-30T21:38:47Z

Nice graphics and music (could be a perfect loop though). Really polished game. Great execution with the theme too. Too be nitpicky - Mechanics of stacking should have been explained more at the beginning.

Protocol: 47 - Superstar Appeal by Poffle 2018-08-15T21:15:05Z

lol, the song becomes really dark out of nowhere

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-16T11:41:58Z

@rs11s21n yeah...we feel you guys, pure mouse, or pure keyboard/gamepad controls would be better. We were learning the software during development. And 3 days wasn't enough to make this happening, but eventually we will get there

Loot Keeper by outstar 2018-08-17T07:06:20Z

Thanks guys for all the feedback. We are literally writing down things that you say on Trello, grouping it, labelling, (pretending that we're professionals ) It will be a foundation for our future work on the game. So far a lot of problems we find in your comments recur, giving us the clear idea what to improve. We also appreciate your ideas for solutions to those problems.

ROOSTER EXPRESS by Fran Segura 2018-08-15T21:50:40Z

its super difficult to read all those relabeled stuff, hah. I love it.

One thing i would change - not dropping a package after clicking left click to get out of 'inspect mode'. I kept dropping packages because of that.

The Flesh Pit by frankiesmileshow 2018-08-14T15:40:11Z

i love it.

needs a bit of difficulty balancing and tweaking jump speed but overall controls and responsiveness are top notch.

Best Music Award for dynamic soundtrack

LETTERBOX by Shell Pirate 2018-08-15T21:22:50Z

Great execution of the concept. Feels really professional.

Minor issue: wall jumps could be more "sticky" and forgiving

One Billboard Outside Of Catville by Team Catwheel 2018-08-17T10:47:51Z

Outstanding art and a great idea for a minigame.

My only issues: - Grabbing posters with weird shapes is sometimes harder than it should be - New posters cover a chunk of the work area - I had a feeling that I couldn't avoid getting some of the strikes, often being caught in no-way-out situation.

Cyber Duck by Coedo 2018-08-14T14:36:15Z

A nice start.

You should add something about 'running out of space' theme. like expandable obstacles or at least not erase destroyed enemies.

Also minor issue i spotted -> enemies shoot from the outside of the visible screen.

Black Market Nostalgia by boyTurnedRobot 2018-08-19T12:07:48Z

good base for a strategic minigame with decent theme idea and clear rules of expansion.

Feedback: - game kinda plays itself, lacks of events, cpu competition or anything that requires player reaction. Maybe some things should be more manual, like distribution or taking over the area. - Remember Deadlock game? i would love to see some more detail of whats going on inside of every district and micromanage there. - no selected states for areas or 'purchased' state for upgrades. - your itch demo page is not entirely visible on 16:10 screens (bottom of the window) - numbers get into scientific format Screen Shot 2018-08-19 at 13.58.25.png

Sodaboi by Tony Redmer 2018-08-14T15:11:43Z

Cool gameplay and graphics. It would make a great mini game boss battle.

Minor complains: - Soda bubbles feel bit too static on the screen and overlaps in the same place sometimes. - Music is well... interesting  - Damage shouldn't have the same color as bubbles - No ammo counter and 'i got hit' indicators.

Sodaboi by Tony Redmer 2018-08-14T16:40:55Z

@shredmer 'i got hit' i mean like maybe the bar should be animated better or flash on rise. Hard to spot when things get dangerous. Especially when bubbles overlaps.

Camp Snuggle by Scott Steffes 2018-08-17T10:01:32Z

"humhumhumhum in the winter in the winter"

audio is superb

Camp Snuggle by Scott Steffes 2018-08-17T10:21:44Z

oh one issue tho - cant rotate the guys on touchpad because there is no wheel to do so

Hoarder's Curse by dralois 2018-08-14T15:22:13Z

Yeah... I dont have any controller so it was super hard to play it on a keyboard - i dunno if changing a weapon is even possible

My feedback:

- limit the inventory even more - add durability of items, best damage - less durable, only way to remove item from inventory is to use it hard. - tweak the physics so moving around wouldn't be so stiff. - improve graphics

Secret Knight by shinysteel 2018-08-15T11:55:27Z

compo??? wow!

Lúcia Teve uma Má ideia (Lúcia's Bad Idea) by lubslubd 2018-08-17T09:54:55Z

is this Windows only? I see exe files not any mac executable

Rigid Flame by Teo Miklethun 2018-08-20T09:03:50Z

Great entry that nailed the theme. I like the music too.

Minor thing - best tactics i found is to wait a bit for enemies and lift off to burn them and stop again. This creates kinda non-fluid gameplay. Not sure how to avoid that, maybe flames should diminish faster or be semi-surpassable but with damage penalty.

Rigid Flame by Teo Miklethun 2018-08-20T15:53:05Z

@teo-miklethun it might but you need to test it, hard to say based on abstract. I think its an issue that will solve itself slowly with every feature you will add to the game. Cheesing tactics always adjust to every change.

LD52 — Harvest

Harveeps by Raivk 2023-01-09T21:57:18Z

Fun and fresh gameplay. Maybe the meta of clearing 3x3 fields should be more explained at the beginning. My first round was a disaster ;)

Gun Harvester by The1 2023-01-11T10:12:21Z

meaty gunplay and animations. love it. from ui point of view - instead of selection menus i think next/prev switchers and just buying what you preselected would work better for the fluidity of the game.

Goba Day by Jonas Tyroller 2023-01-09T22:51:58Z

Don't get fooled people - Its like in fallout 2. 95% chance is really 20%.

Nimkip! by T C 2023-01-09T20:56:46Z

game doesnt load on my mac/safari for some reason (unity progress bar freezes close to the end)

Chess The Second by aslan 2023-01-11T20:55:42Z

love the concept. make it a real game.

The Harvester by flanne 2023-01-09T21:41:57Z

love the gameplay.

one thing - the prompt about removing the soul is very sneaky now, you can die if you follow the instructions because removing soul takes a turn (sometimes you have to dodge). Maybe it should be more obvious its not 'required'. Or removing soul shouldnt take a turn.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Mini Outbreak by andyspace144 2024-10-08T08:13:51Z

i got performance issues on firefox/windows when more entities show up on the screen. Nice concept of merging bullet hell with a strategy game.

Thanks, and thank you to everyone above for participating, voting, and providing feedback  See you next year!

Critters, Conjure, Cannonade! by PureGarlic 2024-10-08T08:05:19Z

"Spill" button should be more visible. Nice use of physics! Funny to watch little blobs doing their job :)

Among The Deep by Langotriel 2024-10-23T09:47:39Z

Polished entry. Tone shift was kinda unexpected :) I think half of cut scenes could happen as a background exposition so pacing would be more fluid, and reserve the screen take overs only for most important story points. Mechanically I think there could be some mini-game involved with gathering resources or combat. Maybe overheating the beam or some pattern thing for optimal usage. Anyway I enjoyed it very much. Also I never saw GDevelop in action before.

Relics Return - Point and Click Adventure by Cassreads 2024-10-08T10:33:25Z

Rare occurrence when game jam devs need to go out to work on the game. 5 stars for audio, too. right click and drag to look around would be good addition (browsers don't like when cursor is taken over) you can un-polish the gemstone by obtaining it for the second time ;)

LD57 — Depths

Cartoscoot by Mr_Field 2025-04-24T13:13:56Z

Great job, really nicely done. I like the combat system. Lifts are maybe too modern for a fantasy setting?

Hope you will get the 20 ratings on time.

Tidehold by outstar 2025-04-08T16:14:37Z

yeah o2 rush is an exploit but i will fix it after the jam (somehow)

Tidehold by outstar 2025-04-15T13:17:48Z

Some post mortem notes

Things people probably have not noticed

- The game features spatial sound effects. Tiles farther from the camera sound distant and are positioned in 2D space.

- Maps are created using PNG files, where each pixel represents a tile, and its color determines the terrain type. This approach saved us time, allowing map editing directly in Aseprite.

- The map is 64x64 tiles, but stress tests successfully handled 256x256. This is achieved by destroying tiles outside the visible area and redrawing them when they re-enter the screen.

- If you clicked fast enough, you could destroy your end goal, potentially breaking the game.

- Radars at the map’s end act erratically because their "mistake" ratio isn’t scaled based on distance from the goal. I found the effect funny, so I kept it in the code.

Hollowspire by simex 2025-04-08T08:06:25Z

enjoyable game for minecraft players :) great style and execution. feedback from ui guy: bit too much clicking in the beginning but with full mining operation its nice. crafting ui could do some improvements (if you switch item during crafting it should restart crafting, crafted items shouldnt block crafting others or if its a mechanic - make the 'ready to pick' item more urgent / standing out. craft button could use some better color for enabled too). It wasnt clear how to apply items too at first so a hint about it would be nice. UI in general could use some more 'clicky'-meaty feeling of whats toggled whats not. And last small thing - replace words 'attack' 'hit' 'damage' with something else - its not a combat.

Painball by AmberFall92 2025-04-08T08:43:31Z

Cool idea and gameplay. 5 for graphics. Bit hard to switch between keyboard and mouse sometimes. maybe when cursor is in the game area left click should be left flipper and right click right. Or that slomo should be triggered on some button press and hold. Also space to shake the screen is missing.

I borked a leaderboard too - you probably should detect some combo crazy numbers and limit stuck ;)

A Squire Acquires by HexyVexy 2025-04-24T08:28:37Z

I used https://taisel.github.io/GameBoy-Online/ to run it in browser. Music is a bit too loud but i suppose its an emulation problem.

Nice little game, it could use more events and decision-making.

Debts in the Depths by Reaktori 2025-04-08T10:50:19Z

really great game, simple but catchy and strategic. Feedback: i would remove no-mana friction. allow to shoot just maybe do less damage if no mana or something. Dont make player feel useless/blocked. Sound is a bit too loud by default. Add keyboard left-right movement on A/D and shoot on space, next round on space too.

LD58 — Collector

A Stamp-Stealer Postman by Pimeko 2025-10-09T10:38:52Z

i would kill a postman for a "You are here" marker on the map

Dice'OMancy by Kaspjej 2025-10-20T17:53:22Z

cool concept for a roguelike, but maybe main hero should be a necromancer raising killed things from the dead? Combat feels too rng imo. And as someone mentioned - dice should roll faster.

if its godot - quick question - how did you solve mouse position vs shader warping the tiles? I once tried something similar and the position detection mismatch killed me.
