Difficult, but fun little game! Well done guys!

titos2k 2018-08-15 21:50

its super difficult to read all those relabeled stuff, hah. I love it.

One thing i would change - not dropping a package after clicking left click to get out of 'inspect mode'. I kept dropping packages because of that.

swordfish 2018-08-16 19:55

Super fun little game, with some more story and variation I can see this as a game I would play regularly. Great art, I love how the labels wrap around the corners of the boxes and it has a really nice almost animal crossing feel to it.

It gets pretty chaotic pretty fast, and I love it.

A really great entry overall, solid contender to win I think.

swiftpotato 2018-08-16 19:59

The concept combined with some of the gameplay mechanics like reading labels on the packages make for a very interesting and challenging game. The art and music are also very well suited for the game and add a great atmosphere. However, the game is nearly unplayable because of how unresponsive the controls are.

The main character details and animations are really nice and the game idea is different from the most games published this ludum fitting perfectly the "running out of space" theme. The mechanics are a bit complex but reading carefully the tutorial and after the first minute (if you haven't gone crazy yet) everything goes clear. Definitely this game is fun and entertaining, good job to all of you! An amazing game considering the time limit. :)

squidcor 2018-08-17 10:06

Really liked this game. Great idea, well made and polished!

My only feedback is that it gets really overwhelming. It has the stress of something like Overcooked, but without the satisfaction of becoming efficient enough to actually win. I'd really enjoy being able to actually complete a level in this game. Like some of the people above, I also kept accidentally dropping packages.

One of the best LD games I've played.

jessefreeman 2018-08-18 19:32

Great game! Love the graphics and the mechanics. Only thing I couldn't really figure out was which box went where. I think with a little bit of polish and maybe even local multi-player it could be a fun take on Overcooked!

alex-brull 2018-08-19 09:33

Everything is good in your game! I had a very fun time and the graphics are so cute! Have a look at our game too, if you have time ;)

jaimuepe 2018-08-19 12:10

@titos2k Yeah, that makes A LOT of sense... Not sure why we didn't thought about it :/ Thanks for your feedback!

@swiftpotato Why do you say the controls are unresponsive? Did you play with a xbox controller or kb+m? Any suggestions are welcome :)

@squidcor I get what you say. You can actually win though - after the countdown the boss will spawn a bunch of boxes but those are not your problem because your turn is over. But yeah it can be a it confusing. Thanks for the feedback!

@jessefreeman Yes, Overcooked was an obvious inspiration :P The game is a bit rough around the edges (quite literally sometimes - the stickers get really stretched in some weird angles). We also thought about a local multiplayer, either coop or versus, maybe we'll do it someday :). Thanks!

mochakingup 2018-08-19 13:32

It's so difficult for me, too much to do, haha but then again I'm always bad at games like this. Loving the presentation though, coop would be great with all the chaos. Maybe don't hide the cursor when playing with keyboard and mouse? it's kinda hard to keep track where the character is facing in relation with the mouse.

drauthius 2018-08-19 18:11

Very nice entry! I had a lot of fun, and got really stressed when the packages didn't fit into the hole in the wall, or when they fell of the conveyor belt. Having the packages spill over to the area where they need to be delivered would probably have fit the theme a bit more, but might haver made it too hard.

paula 2018-08-20 14:34

The ambience is fantastic and really funny. The game is very entertaining, fun and really stressful (poor panda :( ). The mechanics and the use of running out of space is great and original. You made an excellent job with the tutorial designed, and it's fun and it's not like a typical tutorial that you want to skip it. I found it a little bit hard since the box colliders are tight and if you don't put it in the middle sometimes it falls, and with the large packets is harder to make them fit. I love the art, is so cute!!!! Fantastic game, worth to play it!!

riptidestudio 2018-08-20 19:29

5 out of 5! Great job.

ithildin 2018-08-20 22:39

I also got the chaotic vibes from Overcooked. If this is already stressful as a single player game, I can't imagine it being multiplayer XD

You've nailed the presentation, with polished graphics and some catchy sound and music. The take on the theme was clear, and I think it works great.

As for gameplay, I found it a bit rough in some aspects. The most frustrating bit to me was probably the inspect mode being somewhat dependent on the player position on the scene (?). I had to move around, drop the package and pick it again to see if it was reset and I could see the labels (or rotate it) properly.

Also, because of the physics it was hard sometimes to drop items, as they would fall or get stuck and you would have to keep picking it again (this happened a lot when burning round-ish items).

The package spawn rate felt a bit too much in terms of balancing, but since the "win" condition is -I guess- to keep the boss relatively happy before the timer runs out, it adds up to the overall tension of the level, which is a good thing.

I'm sure these things can be improved or fixed and everything else already works, so keep at it! You've got a really cool and promising game! Congrats!! :D

Great game, exciting and fun to play, nice graphics. Unfortunately it falls a little bit short because of some design decisions.

- When I get to a conveyor belt I sometimes turn around, which makes me drop the package on the floor. And sometimes the packages slide off the belts. I think it'd be a lot better if you simply teleported the package on top of the nearest belt within a close distance, and then disabled the physics of the boxes. - Why do you have a time limit? I think this game would have been better off with an endless waves type of game, but I guess that's more of a subjective opinion. - The game is way too difficult. I know it's supposed to feel stressful, but you should also make the player feel successful. The boxes spawn in way too fast. - I think you're being unfair with the player with the way you change between districts and delivery types. Several times I dropped off a package to a district, only to see that gate changing to a type of delivery. In my opinion the boxes should be accepted when they land on the belt, but that might also just be my personal opinion.

Some particularly positive things to note: - The mechanism of turning the boxes to find districts or courier details is a great touch, and I love how you have different labels and some even saying a district but it's crossed out and you have to find another district label. - The security camera orienting towards the player is a creative little touch. - For some reason I laughed a lot when someone dropped a burger with the mail :D

Again, great game. I may sound a bit harsh in this review, but that's just because you're 4 people and because you're just a few poor design decisions away from one of the best Ludum Dare entries I've played. I'll give you higher ratings than this review might imply. I'll be looking forward to seeing your future Ludum Dare entries :)

Really nice game. I found it fun and a bit difficult. Nice graphics, good song, good humor (I smiled at the PlayCock magazine :stuck_out_tongue: ). A small note: I didn't find any difference in holding the a button instead of just pressing it. Aside from that, nice entry!

bbaf 2018-08-23 21:14

I still think that your game about Puppy Care Center is one of the cutest thing ever made on LudumDare. Oh wait, it's another game. This one is pretty nice too!:blush: Great entry!

ddrkirbyisq 2018-09-03 21:23

Pretty fun and good atmosphere, haha! I think you've got a lot of fun things going on here with the delivery parsing. My main feedback would be that there are other things in the game that seem to get in the way of the core mechanic of parsing the mailing labels. In particular, trying to accurately drop the boxes on the correct conveyor belt can be a bit difficult (as mentioned above) and I don't think that really adds any enjoyment to the game. It also feels like running back and forth from the package pile to the conveyor belts is a bit tedious and doesn't serve much purpose. Perhaps if the play area wasn't so spacious and the packages to sort just ended up cluttered throughout the room it would also add to the sense of "running out of space".

Great choice of music btw!
