LD42 — Running out of space

PistonBreak by Gipzo 2018-08-16T20:21:38Z

Great job! Its simple but still fun and very enjoyable. I noticed when using the downloaded version of it on Windows, if I selected any resolution it seemed to scale the title screen text improperly. This is a pretty easy fix, just make sure your elements on the main screen are anchored to something. This video describes how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svyDgYz5idg. Other than that, the game seemed to run really well!

I love this game! The only thing I noticed was that you seem to have a pretty large amount of time to organize items when there is only one chest, however when it got to rows of chests later on the difficulty definitely went up. I personally think an option to drag and drop items would be a great addition but clicking and using WASD was very intuitive and added a degree of difficulty, so it was very fun to play regardless. I intended to try it briefly because it looked cool and ended up wasting hours on it. Do you guys have any intention to finish/publish this game as a full game?

ROOSTER EXPRESS by Fran Segura 2018-08-16T19:59:08Z

The concept combined with some of the gameplay mechanics like reading labels on the packages make for a very interesting and challenging game. The art and music are also very well suited for the game and add a great atmosphere. However, the game is nearly unplayable because of how unresponsive the controls are.

Fun game! It quickly escalated and got really difficult. The sound is insanely loud, even on 1% volume on Windows it sounds like its about the level of 20-30% volume on other applications. The clicking and dragging is also not super consistent, I could click on the edge of the float on some and not on others, but it wasn't too noticeable once I got the hang of the controls. Overall, really fun game though!

Love the concept! My team came up with something similar haha. Overall the gameplay seemed to work rather well. It would definitely be interesting to see an updated version of the game as you mentioned above, looking forward to it.

@laytanl @joschi @chocolat-endive Thanks so much for the feedback! I did intend on adding a score counter and some sort of currency to unlock upgrades and better weapons, but I ran out of time. I may come back and do that later as a separate update now that the Jam has ended. The invisible walls are another thing I wanted to fix, I know whats causing them, but I didnt have a chance to implement it in time. I'll have to look into coming back when I have time and adding an update to add/fix some things.

@mrsylar59 Thanks for your feedback! I definitely learned a lot by creating this game, hopefully I can manage to add more polish on my next game in the next jam, but for now I'll definitely be looking into fixing this one up once I've got the time for it.

@robo-chiz Thanks!

@megalink I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the suggestion and feedback!

@comenoha Thanks! The cursor wasn't intended to blend into the background, theres supposed to be a crosshair sprite. For whatever reason, the crosshair works in the editor and I didnt have a problem with it until I built the game right before the jam ended, so I didnt have time to fix it.

SAVE THE PICKLE by Canoo_ 2018-08-14T21:41:48Z

The controls werent super intuitive and there wasn't really a clear goal at first as you spawn away from your grow beds, but after exploring a bit and figuring out what to do, it was pretty fun.

Cosmic Escape 1999 by Chocolat-Endive 2018-08-15T19:38:22Z

Very interesting! It was simple, but had an interesting combination of visuals and audio and the mechanics made it fun to play. It didn't last very long as there was only one level, but it was enjoyable for that one level. Maybe make an endless mode where you have a timer and it progressively gets harder and harder while you try to last as long as possible?
