I just played for 15 minutes so far, but I am so blown away. Jesus guys, so fricking crazy what you accomplished in 3 days.

So much to love in this, and it's incredibly tricky. After winning the first battle I got stuck in a loop of defending myself as I lost initiative every time, and it never went to my attack, just back to initiative. Not sure if that was supposed to happen. I thought both sides got a chance to attack after initiative said who went first.
But the art, sound, and mechanics are awesome.
Love the art and the idea with the dice. Its a bit hard I think but not to hard that its not fun. Good job :D
Maybe one of the best Jam games I've ever played. Would absolutely buy a fully fleshed out version of this. Dicey Dungeons (and maybe a bit of Backpack Hero) kinda vibes.
Edit - just finished it, had a strat that kinda *cheesed* it, but with some balancing it could be sick!
I have no words for how cool it is. One hundred percent one of the best games I've seen at this jam, if not the best. Very cool job!
Very pleasant visuals, the art, and those buttons with animations! The music and sound effects are top-notch. I haven't encountered this kind of combat system before, it was quite engaging. I like dice (Baldur's Gate 3 <3).
It was a little boring to fight at some moments when neither I nor the enemy could cause damage.
Oh, it also reminded me of a childhood cartoon: Redwall.
Great job. Fantastic art and interesting gameplay mechanics even though it does feel like it's quite easy to fall into a loop of having to defend oneself after losing initiative and then constantly feeling like you are on the back foot. Like a previous commenter, I kind of assumed you would get the chance to attack even if you lost the initiative (I admit I didn't read the tutorial too carefully). Anyhow, overall a fantastic entry!
Thank you so much for your comments folks! As for Initiative, @lelulagames @hajpappan - this is great feedback, as Initiative rolls are more for attack chance in general: the side that wins Initiative scores an opportunity to attack the opponent. After each attack, another Initiative roll happens. Hope that helps!
Would love to see more upgrades, and a bit more diversity in combat, but otherwise great. Like other folks mentioned, it felt like there was one super dominant strategy for just upgrading everything and pushing through, but overall quite neat!
The art is cool, I really like the mechanics, I hung in there for a long time
Pretty good game. It can hook people in as it awakens the gambler from the inside. Maybe the voice could be just a bit easier to understand. But as for the GameJam project - it's great
Very interesting interpretation of theme! Graphic looks great and gameplay is enjoyable
For a game jam this is absolutely amazing. The sound design the art is all fabulous. I would love to see this game developed into a full on rouge like. My one issue is that it can be very swingy. Some fights where no challenge at all because the dice just decided to go my way. Other times it felt like I couldn't win at all because I could never win initiative or I had to commit to many dice to do it that I never delt damage. So a way to make fights more reliable and based on skill rather than luck would be awesome. Even still this is an incredible game and everyone deserves accolades for this project.
This is a very good game! The graphics are amazing and it's very fun to play. Sometimes it was frustrating because it's luck based, but overall I think it's a nice game. Great job!
I like the mechanics and the squeaky mouse voice. It was a little hard, but very fun! Great job!
A lot of dice rolling. It's a great, innovative mechanic to upgrade the dice you didn't use. Great graphics and effects, lovely story. Very high quality entry!
Lovely game ! The story is quite cute, and i liked playing but i'm bad at strategy x) !
Waow the visuals are incredibly polish! I thought I understood how to manage dices then I got stuck in the second fight with opponent having incredible quality dices and I could not do anything against them to save me. Screenshot 2024-10-08 151435.png
Congratulations for all this work! I will try another time to understand more the strategy!
I did two runs but died at the end. Il liked the simple mechanic easy to understand !
What a fantastic entry. Very polished. Great audio and visuals and rolling the dice was satisfying.
The combat was kinda innovative, but turns out the initiative/attack/defend mechanic can be cheesed quite easily. Since there's no real downside to failing your attack rolls, all you really have to do is make sure you win initiative every time. Always commit max dice in initiative and then attack with a single die. This lets you trivially level up all your dice to 1d12 and then just breeze through the enemy.
Really cool and polish. The fighting is really well done.
Great art - illustrations are *chefskiss*. Music brings it together. The fighting mechanic is innovative - had to wrangle it to understand - but I found that being First is always key. Lovely package, great work by everyone! 🎉
This was great! Polished art and sound design, along with a compelling little gameplay loop! I thought I had it figured out: start by winning every initiation phase, then play a single attack dice until all your dice are 12 sided. The toad king ripped my strategy to ribbons...
Love the art!
Nice art and gameplay :)
This game is so cool! I loved it!
Nice art and audio and great dialogue! Very well polished game.
This was really well done! Loved the mechanics, it was an interesting balance!
This is really good. It's addicting and I kept playing over and over again! I'm not sure how to use the dice boost though? I noticed my opponent boosting their dice mid-battle but I couldn't find an option for me to do it even though I chose that perk after the first battle? This is such a cool idea for a game and I hope you take it further! The music ends after 1 loop though :(
@weirdbitgames Your leftover dice get boosted in attack and defense phase, so if you don't use them then, they become stronger! That's why it's sometimes good strategy to hit small in attacks and save a die or two to boost. Thank you so much for playing!
I really enjoyed this! The gameplay was fun, and there was even room for strategy! I loved the artwork and voice acting! Top-notch work! <3
Such a cool idea!
Got caught up in fighting various enemies and hoping for good dice rolls :) I thought that I was stuck in a downwards spiral, but after reading the comments I realised, I should have kept some dice so they get upgraded. Makes sense, but I somehow missed that in the explanation.
The graphics immediately give a sense of personality. Very well polished and thought through. The battle log is a great way to understand, what just happened. I was so engaged, I "felt" every hit Sir Adam took.
I could totally see this being a full game at some point :)
Very cool entry :) Looking forward to more :)
@outstar Oh so like if I roll initiative with 1 die and defend with 1 die, the remaining 2 I didn't use at all get boosted for next round? Ooo!
I was streaming the game to a friend, we both had fun  The first thing I noticed was the music and the graphics, I loved it though in the menu it was a little too loud. As I went through the tutorial, the music at some point stopped, not sure if it is supposed to?
Either way, I loved going through it, the concept simple enough and the story... I was definitely chuckling.
one of my favorites this jam, simple to understand gameplay that anyone can pick up and play, narrative and high production value, not mentioning the amazing art. Yeah this game is great! Kudos to the entire team o7
It's a rather addictive combat mechanic (other aspects of the game are also top-notch)
However, the working tactic seems to be as follows: you try to win initiative every round and spend just one dice on attack till you get all your dice to d12
Then, you just win initiative AND bash them into submission :)
Is there a better way to play?
(and, of course upgrades should get you +1d4 whenever possible, that's the best one)

Really good game, I'm impressed you manage to make this during a game jam! The game is super easy to play/understand, the characters and backgrounds are beautiful, and I had a lot of fun playing it. Congrats 💪
It's always a good sign when the feedback you're getting is on balancing strategies and figuring out the optimal way to win... graphics, audio, UI, everything is so cohesive and polished there's nothing to complain about! The only things I struggled with a bit were understanding how my dice were matching up with the enemy's dice (the tutorial says HP gets hit only if there is no defending die to block, but I was definitely doing damage when the enemy used dice to block & just rolled lower than me) & what speed was used for. It would've been nice to be able to play the tutorial again, or at least have the basics in the itch description for reference.
In terms of player experience, the game did feel a little slow at times, especially when I hit 6 k12 dice and was just choosing all 6 of them every round--perhaps there's room for bursts of damage to speed up the end once someone takes a clear lead?
Overall, though, I really loved this entry; amazing job!
Very cute! The art is great and I really like the voice acting, not to mention a well put together battle system. Good work!
Good work! Incredibly polished at that. The same strategy worked against all enemies for me, but I see how this game could break that given more time. I liked this, congrats!
Very nice game. I love the initiative and combat mechanics. The music was good, the voice acting added to the character of the game and the graphics help set the theme of the game. Overall it's a very polished submission! I think that there is a dominant strategy of trying to hold the fight until all of your dice are upgraded, but rolling dice is always fun so...
One of the favorites. Well done!
Very cheesy game here. I really love the fight mechanic and am waiting for a full release :D
This was so damn good!! I'll give you 5/5 across the board - I loved this. WELL DONE!
Loving the character models (are 2d characters called models?) and the gameplay was very intuitive. Solid entry!
Entertaining game with a good artistic design. The idea of combat is fine but maybe I would have appreciated a little more risky in its proposal.
The game felt a little repetitive, but I really love the system here. I'm a tabletop creator myself and this was super genius the way you level up unused dice and reduce dice when you deal damage against a blocking die. Such a clever idea!
I really hope you keep working on this, I'd love to see it become something even bigger! 🥳
Congrats on your final ranking by the way!
Thanks, and thank you to everyone above for participating, voting, and providing feedback  See you next year!
