This is amazing for a jam! The BIOS boot and the Fenestra 98 desktop with e-mail, finance and market windows nail the year-2000 vibe, and the phone designer is genuinely deep: dragging keys and speakers onto the body while the design checker tells you "the speaker must be above the screen (teens don't mind)" is great feedback. The 3310-style ringtone composer and pixel wallpaper editor are lovely touches. One of the most complete entries I've seen, great job!

Beautiful visual style! The main menu was a lovely surprise, and the sounds fit perfectly. Really hit me with a wave of nostalgia :)

I got completely hooked on designing my own ULTRA MAX NOKIA PRO DELUXE EDITION 2000 with 20 speakers and 4 buttons only :D

Yet another goated entry - i finally could build my dream phone the Mokia-6769!! And it was a hit, i mean i knew, cause its my job, but it was a hit and I didnt get fired by bob.

My condolences to the guy who died in the meeting, I will bring a cheese plate for the event in the kitchen.

Nuts, what you guys managed to do - everything is crisp and smooth, an insane level of polishing as well.

10/10 entry!

You did so much in just 72 hours! Really interesting game

wouter52 2026-10-21 13:46 ♥ 1

I'm always blown away with how much you can do in 72 hours! A complete phone designer with a userinterface that actually works as expected, slappin' background music with media player and a complete marketing system-mechanic and so much emails that are not there for the progression of the game, but are there just for fun and vibes?! I mean.. How???

I love it. Although, after two phones my time was up and I needed to think about this feedback. A view nitpicks I think: - For the first phone I was asked to guard progress, which meant "skip round" I think. Only later rounds those turns can be used for research and such. - In the Wizard, you can use checkboxes to select between Business, Teens and Seniors. I would have expected radiobuttons instead for the functionality you're going with there - Some icons would have been nice, like pick up phone, hang up phone, some arrows, some other icons like "iMode" or something 😁

Also, I love the alternative names for all the brand names haha

I had fun playing yours, keep up the great work

Edit: there is a freakin' "continue" option?! Mind blown haha, ok I'm playing this at a later point more seriously I decided 😁

Your game is at the top of the itch.io page for this Ludum Dare tag - congratulations!

It was so much fun at the start! I love the visual style, and the menu is awesome too. The game reminds me a bit of Game Dev Tycoon.

I really enjoyed the beginning - I genuinely got into the vibe of designing cool new phones!

But I think the game is a bit too long. By the end, I'd become one of Bob's worst employees

And speaking of employment… this game actually made me think a little more about my own career choices. So, thank you for that!

@disvent oh wow, really? maybe itch measures popularity by the average gameplay time, which i agree could be more condensed for the jam format. But some people want it to last longer too, so its a tricky one. Yes Game Dev Tycoon was an inspiration for this one. Thanks for playing, and good luck with your career. Times are tough right now, I'm experiencing it too.

Very impressed with the amount of stuff you managed to fit in that game, and how well it all works together. The visuals and audio are flawless, and the writing entertaining. I struggle to think of anything that could be improved. Well, maybe an ability to pull a phone from development (with some penalty) after you noticed you forgot about something, or if new trends suddenly emerged.

Got fired right before the C-suite, what can you do. Just couldn't really live up to the level of the original Grindpad. Sometimes you just happen to be at the right place, at the right time.

Loved this one, such a clever idea! The Y2K desktop is so charming! The "Windows" screen, email inbox and phone-building tools feel wonderfully authentic and fun. You really nailed the vibe, fantastic job!

that is some serious work! also, #torille : )

This is really well made. I remember when Winamp and operating systems looked like this. I still think that style looked better than modern Windows. You could clearly see the interface elements and where to click. I really like it.

As for making devices, I built an iPod but couldn’t sell it. Apparently, you have to be Steve Jobs to pull that off.

Thank you so much for this game. I had a lot of fun playing it. It also reminded me of Delphi, a development environment where building interfaces felt very similar.

I’d love to play a tycoon game in this style about something other than phones, perhaps making retro video games.

I also really liked the BIOS-style loading screen and the way you placed the Next Turn button where the Windows Start button would be. That’s a clever design choice.

Love the vibe! and that's so much content in 72 hours. Good job.

Very nice and unique entry! I love all the funny little details you put into it (like the band and song names :D). The whole vibe took me back to the days when I first started messing around on the computer. Thanks for sharing! =)

Fun tycoon game, very on theme, I like the ringtone designer.

Incredibly impressive how much you've been able to accomplish in 72 hours! This is basically a full-fledged game.

I played until I became CEO and had a lot of fun!

I love tinkering around with different phone parts and making a perfect design. But it seems that as long as the key requirements from the list are fulfilled, the phone will get 8/10 or better. It's very difficult to judge player creativity...

I'm also unsure about the decision to make the development of the phone take 2-3 months. Because of that, the ending felt a bit anticlimactic. I just designed the new, best phone ever and didn't even get to see how the market likes it, because I became CEO the next quarter after designing.

Also, I'm unsure if player has enough time to react to failing the quota. You need to not fail 3 times in a row, but the development of a new phone usually takes 3 months. What else can you really do to bounce back?

Oh god, the nostalgia hit hard on this one! Love the little details (especially the WinAmp-like media player!), and the whole Win95 vibe was perfect. Lots of fun with the old school designer app (flashbacks to VB1.0!). Fantastic work -- very well done!
