Cute art and fun concept, I somehow broke the job option so was unable to do anything but go to the park unfortunately but on the bright side pretty sure Jennifer is into me.

actual-potato-69 2019-10-08 09:43

Very interesting little game. When you lose your job, you can't do much then sadly. Some little tweaks with the prices and the Jobsearch and the game will be great!

mikethehuman 2019-10-08 09:48

Great concept and art style! Could really do with some music and UI sounds though.

citsua 2019-10-08 10:00

@lauryn @actual-potato-69 Thanks for the feedback! You can your job back after losing it, you just have to wait 5 months. I had forgotten to write it in the tutorial, so thanks for reminding me!

lauryn 2019-10-08 10:03

@citsua yeah I figured that out eventually and have been playing the game since I commented haha. Will probably keep playing for the rest of the night, this is surprisingly addictive for a game jam entry, 10/10.

hexcolyte 2019-10-08 10:06

Interesting concept, and love the simplistic artstyle! It could use some indicator on when there is a better job available so I am not stuck as a waiter forever!

After the 40 months, there is only an option to restart the game, it would be better if I can continue my generation with improved gene.

citsua 2019-10-08 10:15

@lauryn very glad you like it! @hexcolyte not sure if I understood you correctly, but you actually can improve your genes! If a girl likes you enough, she will get pregnant, and after 9 months a child will be born, inheriting both your characteristics. You however cannot continue your lineage once you lose.

zuf 2019-10-08 10:30

Wow, nicely done.

It teaches some valuable life lessons: prioritise your goals, call her back every three months (especially if she's pregnant), and always play rock paper scissors.

Some ways to improve: Add more phone/park scenarios. They repeat a lot. Add more jobs, and I agree that it would be good to see other jobs before quitting yours. (Or maybe there aren't any. What a tough job market.)

hexcolyte 2019-10-08 11:32

@citsua I didn't know I am actually losing the game if I do not continue my lineage, thanks! It is a great game.

upsitesdown 2019-10-08 11:47

Love the Nigerian Prince! It was fun but quite hard to find love (too realistic :D)

zuf 2019-10-08 12:58

I started the second generation: the child had much higher stats and was immediately inundated with job offers. I picked the highest paying one (6.5x the peak salary of his father). Barely one month into adulthood and he had already exceeded the wildest dreams of his predecessor. He even had extra dialog options.

But despite all this, he was not able to sire a child. Let this be a lesson to you all: do not spend your days at the club, for you will acquire a great many numbers. And the woman of your affection will remain out of reach, hidden in the masses that accost you in the park.

citsua 2019-10-08 13:06

@zuf I about died laughing reading your comments. Thank you so much for enjoying our game

ladyvardoula 2019-10-08 16:16

Very addictive! I have to ask: does paying the nigerian prince ever pay off?

citsua 2019-10-08 17:01

@ladyvardoula there's a 5% chance that it does, and it's worth it!

saltfactory-studio 2019-10-08 18:23

Love the art style and UI design, but the gameplay does get a bit repetitive after a while. I would suggest adding more dialogue options or having the characters respond differently each time to a specific piece of dialogue.

Really great look and the conversations were hilarious and entertaining!

custardcosmos 2019-10-09 21:50

Really liked it overall! There's a lot going on, even if the events repeat and it was nice everytime something new popped up. I get why there was no change to the rock paper scissors game or that things didn't variate as much as I'd expected, but this is so well done for the game jam time frame. I'd say that maybe an indicator when a new job became available would be nice change - stayed on as a waiter a little too long. But overall, great little game that I'll definitely be giving a couple more plays!

swordishmage 2019-10-10 16:19

I really enjoyed this game. It was an interesting concept and very fun! :)

notapixelstudio 2019-10-11 17:42

I did play it for a while. And I found myself intrigued by it even if this is not my genre. You made me play it so kudos to you. I didn't get why I couldn't got to the club :( but then I saw the description here. You should put some warning in game. Well a nice game. Life goes by and you don't even notice. That's what I got from this game.

aderix 2019-10-12 08:06

@saltfactory-studio we will add more dialogs in the future, we had no time and no more inspiration before the deadline

@custardcosmos we hope that you will continue to play our game! We'll try to make some updates to add dialogs and to adjust some of the UI to make it easier to play and understand

@notapixelstudio It's a great compliment to see that you liked our game despite it not being your genre. And pleased to see you learned something ;)

I started as we all do. Went to school and had a shitty job to earn my living. I was OK looking I think, but had neither time nor money for love affairs. Felt lonely.

I started hitting the gym. However at the same time I had burnout from working too much. I decided that it was best for my health to quit the job until I would graduate from school. At least I now had the energy to get in shape.

After quitting the job, I had some free time so I decided to visit the park for the first time. There I met Rebecca, who appeared to be avid reader. I usually mess up with the girls, but this time things went well and we managed to have a reasonable conversation. I got her number which was promising. She was pretty fit chick and overall nearly perfect. I decided that I would get on the same level with her.

I graduated from school and went back to my old job. I didn't receive any promotions or salary rise, but I guess I was lucky to still have a job. At least I had money for the gym to get fit. I messed things up as I lost Rebecca's number somehow. Hopefully I went to park to see her again. She happened to be jogging by and was quite tired and hungry. I had her favorite snack on me, which surprised her positively. We both laughed at the incident of me losing her number. I felt we had become close. After this we spent lot of time together and Rebecca ended up getting pregnant.

This is where my story ends however as the game run out of time..

Game was a nice experience. Random generation of the characters was nice surprise. There could have been some randomly generated clothes on the characters as well.

Vector graphics were right choice for this one, I think. Color palette is nice and positive. Clouds on the background give somewhat dreamy feeling. Background could have changed theme when you visit various places, visualizing park, workplace etc..

I never had enough money for a car or other expensive things. Also the club was closed for me. It might be for the rich ones as well? I felt there could be more jobs around, or promotions based on your intelligence. Maybe some temporary jobs, which could provide more salary?

I found it problematic that I constantly lost the phone number of girls for no reason. It wasn't thematically communicated why this happened, or I missed something.

Overall nice entry for the jam. Good work!

citsua 2019-10-12 16:59

@keppu wow, thanks for your story! Sorry you couldn't build a family with Rebecca... Hope she'll be there too in another life Most of the things you're wondering about were explained in the tutorial (visible on the game page). You can only call girls once every three months, and you need a car to go to the club. You're right though, we wanted to put those informations in-game but we didn't have enough time.

You actually unlock quite a few different jobs when training your stats (teacher, athlete, model, engineer...). And I would have loved to have more visual variety too, and as we plan to keep working on this game for a little while, it'll probably come in the future :).

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback!

szupinek 2019-10-12 17:45

Interesting idea! I played it for an while (didn't make any spectacular progress, kinda noob in a dating/mating game) and I definitely see a potencial in it. Overall, good game guys. ^-^

peachtreeoath 2019-10-19 02:06

It's not often we get statbuilders on here, I'm usually pretty drawn to them. This game I found decently difficult though. I tried a few runs but couldn't quite figure out the right balance of stat growth. Not to say that was a bad thing, I was definitely engaged for a long time and loved that there seemed to be a few different paths to try out.

yazara 2019-10-21 12:10

I tried the game for a few times, but I never managed to get more than one generation :/ So I guess I missed quite a bit of content. With improved balancing and more feedback in audio and visuals this can become a really fun game :)
