my first LD! ahhh
LET'S DO IT!!!! :D
If silent hill and hotline miami had a baby, the baby would be this game =p One of my favorites so far.
The flashlight effect is amazing, the fact that you have limited bullets and limited battery to turn on the flashlight add a strategy element to the game, making you have to know how to use your resources in order to survive.
The art is beatiful, the character, the enemies and the whole map is very well designed and creates a ominous/threatening enviroment. The music is just perfect for the game, it fits perfectly the atmosphere of the game. Some sfx could have been used to enhance the gameplay, but it is a awesome game, the only thing I would change would be create a keyboard key to shoot.
a great team effort, 5 stars game, for sure !
Very cool little game. Controls feel good and the art style really pulls it together. A good bit of panic too when you realise you're about to run out of battery and you're surrounded!
Well done team on a well put together game!
only windows version in 2017 :(
Not bad! I like the vibe it gives, it's dark and creepy. Some sound effects on the flashlight toggle, and perhaps for the enemies, would have been a nice touch. Very pretty art, and I like the ominous background music.
Nice entry, the game mechanic is really neat and also make the game quite scary. The game lacks some polish, like make the pickables items different, and make the player understand when he picks up something, it took some time to me to understand that some pickables are infinite (and some others aren't). I also appreciated that the game is developed closely to the theme. Nice work! PS: the quit button in the main menù won't work
I want see litle lighting islend without flasing. Cheak my game bro: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/scale-of-life
Gets boring quite fast. You guys should add more gameplay!
and now we have an html5 version.. enjoy
Love the mood of the game, good job, guys. Reminds me of Hotline Miami, and while I'm not a fan of the genre, this game seems like it could be a solid successor to the aforementioned game with a horror-ish twist.
I really like the mood that the music creates in this game, and I feel that this could be a really good game, but there are a few things that aren't quite right. One of these is that I wasn't able to recharge the battery of the torch, even though there was something that looked like it was for.
I also think that the movement should be based on the characters rotation, so that when you press forwards it makes you move in the direction you are looking rather than directly up the screen.
It reminded me of Alien Shooter but in a more horror-y sense. Controls are very fluent, graphics and audio give just the right mood for the game.
Really good entry, 8/10
I didn't like the control scheme... It was very confusing. I was expecting that when I moved forward, it would move me in the direction that my character was walking. Some of the soundscape seemed a little bare as well. Some walking effects would help it! But overall, the mechanic is nice.
Hello there... I hope your participation at LD was satisfactory...
Good work... but I can't pick the battery so I run fast of energy... sounds and effects are really good... and plus this kind of games like Alien Shooter I love much... :D but you guys needs more objects to pick up, or more kinds of enemies... also with the spotligth of we can't know if we are walking or not, you need a step sound effect if you don't want to use a small light to see the enemy or the ground... or a little small spot at character position... or some small ambient lights spots like wall spots... maybe with a red color to make a good combination with the music and the scene jajajaja... Good job... someday I will try to make a game like this... like Alien Shooter too :D I guess your 1st Ludum dare entry is pretty interesting... this is my second LD and still having terrible bugs at development xD
Here is my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/runoutofenergy-the-game rating me please! :D
There my game link for Windows… enjoy https://www.dropbox.com/s/dpapwuoscuiu9eq/RunOutOfPower.zip?dl=0 for Compo
If you wish play my game without the Pink texture bug or with the fixed physics play the "3 days development Jam version" here is the link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wqhljcqrqgjhq6v/RunOutOfPowerJamVersion.zip?dl=0
Really fun little game, with nice idea behind. There are two things, that could be done better: -time between shots should be bigger(pistol shoots like a freaking smg) -bullets are spawning from center point between hands of character(spawn them from weapon or change character's sprite). Overall the game has potential, but needs more polishing.
Nice little game. The music is nice but I missed some sounds like shooting or stepping or take stuff. The idea is great and the gameplay, too. But with more sounds it would be much better and have a better mood. Graphics are really good. Well done!
Great work, you really nailed the eerie feel. It was just missing some monster sound effects. I came across a bug and was stuck in a wall.
Some nice ideas here, but without a way to extend the flashlight life it's very difficult to play any length of time. I'm amused that the music intensity kicks in after around ~2x your flashlight time, I wonder how many people have made it that far :) (certainly not me)
I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/163826993 - Time 0:37:00
Good work, a cool little survivor ^^ It could be better with more feedback (a flash when you are hit by a monster, little animation when you pick an item for example) and more sounds effects.
It's fun to play and graphics are nice, and I had a good mood.
Well done !
Nice game, the ambiance/music fits nicely with this type of game, but I have to agree with @harusame , you need to add more feedbacks: - creeps making little noises when nearby or growling when chasing you down - the gun could lit all the room for an instant (it also needs sounds) - when picking up items, try to have a visual indicator on what they do. But I keep in mind you made this in three days ;)
Overall, the game is very good. Well done.
I played on stream, _(VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/164456874)_ so you were able to watch a lot of thoughts live as I played. However I _**promised**_ I would come back to rate and give feedback. Any questions/comments use [@timbeaudet on twitter](https://www.twitter.com/timbeaudet). And **finally** a link to _my_ game if you wanted to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/edrive
For starters I had a bit of a rough time starting up with your game, first resolution arrows and then some really odd issue that my character would constantly run downwards even if I wasn't pressing down. Even if I reset the button (in case it had stuck down in game somehow by not capturing release). After a bit of experimenting we found out to be my steering wheel. Actually the pedals (clutch pedal). It seems Unity was grabbing this as input automatically and it was very annoying. But I was able to figure it out and kept my clutch in the deadzone - while playing.
The flashlight idea was quite nice. Turn it on/off to save battery and needing to run around to find batteries was nice. I was lost at first trying to figure out if there was an objective or a "live as long as you can". After a bit I figured it out as a play until death. The arena didn't really feel like a submarine, in fact I'd have guessed a giant warehouse with lanes for forklifts.
The audio appeared to be lacking for me; there was no sound for gun shots, pickups, no ammo, flash light on/off, getting hurt or enemies approaching etc. This feedback is almost essential especially low battery on flashlight or when in the dark knowing if an enemy is near would be useful to turn the light on for saving the power. The reloading was KILLING me. I kept failing to reload and wouldn't kill anything and be like "WHAT". But at least there wasn't waste if reloading early.
Seeing the points that were accumulated during the run, after death - say a results screen, would have been super useful. Pretty good entry!
Okay, this game is creepy as *hell*. Once my flashlight started getting low I had to start conserving battery life. I knew there were giant freaky scorpions all around me, but I would only catch glimpses of them before they ate my face. Really nailed the theme and overall mood. Nice job!
You guys could have done a lot better! But never mind
I liked the mood, and there was a nice relation to the theme. However, I think that the visuals could use some work. It was hard to tell when bullets were being fired because of their relation in color to the background. It was also hard to fire bullets in the first place. I also found that I would have liked the flashlight to have a toggle functionality, rather than a press and hold functionality.
Good game! The mood is instantly set up and I started panicking when I was surrounded by 4-5 scorpions from two directions haha
The music and sfx are good, graphics too!
Maybe adding something more like a specific goal, or just an amount of time to survive would have improved the player motivation to keep playing!
I felt the spookiness and the dread of running out of battery...I died because I ran out of ammo though...lol It was fun to navigate around using my source of light sparingly and shooting in the dark hoping the target would not move ;)
The art and sounds are great. I love the constant threat of running out of battery but I wish there was something to work towards such as escaping or something. Otherwise, really great work!
Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hFP2TT_L4k
