You didn't link the game.

mrpenguin 2018-04-24 15:39

@ludum1118 the thing of this game is that is using this same web to play the game XD Did you read the description?

ludum1118 2018-04-24 15:41

@mrPenguin didn't read, sorry

Hmm, in my childhood I had a fishing simulator board game with the same mechanics :), but turn had two phases, dive and after you had catched fish, you have to get it out of water. And I like your dice implementation

gen-liu 2018-04-25 15:18

Like the idea of combination ldjam and board game. Win-win.

A nice simple risk-reward mechanism. A few bad rolls and you're forced to risk the sharks. I like it.

slashie 2018-04-25 19:25

This dice may be useful: https://www.random.org/dice/?num=1

slashie 2018-04-25 19:30

Nice, very practical... I like it! played thru a game with myself (I have no friends :( ). I won!

mrpenguin 2018-04-25 19:33

@slashie ! I added the link for those playing in chrome, thank you!

Happy to see that you won! (I would have been a bit worried otherwise though xd)

What an amazing idea! I just love all things meta! And since I have no friends over I decided to let the computer play, which became a meta game in itself :P Btw the third puddle is totally OP! You only need an average of 18.16 dice throws to get to 5 stars and it wins 64.37% of the games with 3 players where all pick different puddles. The second puddle has a crazy variance though. Thanks for this cool game!

infinitycore 2018-04-25 20:51

Wow, this is the first time I have seen a physical game in a LD before. You've got balls my friend. Very meta, good job

mrpenguin 2018-04-25 21:06

xD thank you @infinitycore <3

mrpenguin 2018-04-25 21:09

@sibi I love that you did actually checked this! This is why I love Ludum dare <3 I admit that I should have been more careful with probabilities anyway : p

solnak 2018-04-25 21:52

This type of entry is original !

robowarrior1982 2018-04-26 09:41

Very original to find this here! Take a penguin and Roll the dice! Strange but good idea!

hilvon 2018-04-26 22:48

Lol... A very intersting idea for a game.

mrpenguin 2018-04-26 23:04

Thank you @solnak @robowarrior1982 and @hilvon hope it did bring a smile : )

pandademic42 2018-04-26 23:30

Took me a moment, but that was rather fun. Cute idea, and it's awesome to see someone making a board game in Ludum. :)

morrilet 2018-04-27 00:54

I can't say I'm a fan of the true random nature of this, but it's a really unique idea and I love that someone made it. Nice work!

goat-toaster-games 2018-04-27 02:08

Interesting idea! Nice work :)

ultrarat 2018-04-28 18:40

I like people submitting board games to LD. When writing instructions it's clearer if you split the single vs MP instructions I think. I had to read the final note about how to play alone then go through and skim the rules again.

gil4 2018-04-28 18:58

No words, amazing meta design. xD And props for the instagram, penguins fans unite. :) Seriously though, for a small board game it's more balanced than it might have looked initially. Nice job!

mikeliosus 2018-05-01 11:14

Hey! Funny entry!

Not expected to see a board game here. xD

Nice mix, well done! :)

veztron 2018-05-03 04:00

I agree with @morrilet, the game is a bit too random for my taste. I was a bit confused by the rules, but seeing the graphic made the game make sense right away :).

simianlogic 2018-05-04 13:19

This game makes me feel old. I think it's fine to go with a board game design, but you should still code up something a little interactive. I also hate meta (games about LD strike me as lazy). So I'm probably too down on this and just come off as "old man yelling at kids to get off my lawn."

mrpenguin 2018-05-04 15:23

@SimianLogic oldman.jpg XD it was a joke anyway to play with the shitty theme, that makes no sense, because you can't combine incompatible things, because they start being compatible at the moment you manage to combine them.

I may or may have not coded another project, and made this one as a joke, and to see how people react to it : p
