LD29 — Beneath the Surface

FuMeKuRi (page-turner) by negiyan 2014-05-09T03:41:00

Simple, well put-together, and very cute. Great combination of graphics and audio to set a lighthearted mood!

Cave Beneath The Surface by davidllanos22 2014-05-04T13:59:00

A really solid dungeon crawler implementation. Art was crisp and clear, and the enemies+traps kept me on my toes for the first few floors. Unfortunately I couldn't get past floor 6 or 7 due to the game freezing! (Win/Chrome)

Watch Your Step by nka 2014-05-06T17:17:00

The graphics are excellent - really help to nail the mood and theme of the game. Controls and mechanics were spot on.

Lasted a fair bit before feeling overwhelmed by the large number of enemies and not being able to do too much about them. Really well done!

Gnomish Miners by nimblegorilla 2014-05-06T02:21:00

Very well-implemented; the game played quickly and beautifully, and was a very interesting concept.

I found the theme to be a little bit of a hindrance in understanding the game -- I wasn't really sure why gems were being re-mined, why the sources tiles don't get included, or indeed where the gnomes were. Certainly a game I'll enjoy coming back to, though.

Grow Little Tree, Grow! by elfeck 2014-05-06T16:29:00

A nice calm, relaxing game. The theme really tied everything together to make a complete experience.

Would have liked to have the pace increase a little faster with time. Great game!

DownDown by mrexcessive 2014-05-04T18:03:00

Had a lot of fun once I figured out the "#/color" mechanic. The different themes were a little jarring in the overall presentation. Just wish I could have continued after losing a level instead of having to start back from the beginning!

Surface Tension by frankbsad 2014-05-02T19:37:00

The mood and theme here are excellent. Everything ties together in a simple and elegant fashion to evoke the experience of a fall day in the woods. It left me wanting more.

I would have liked for the 'skip' sound effect to better match the ambient sound, though, as it took me a little 'out of the zone'.

Morpher by donut345 2014-05-06T16:11:00

I really like the theme and the idea behind the mechanics. Loading got stuck on Chrome but was fine on Firefox.

The game was also too hard for me -- too many enemies that I didn't really have enough time to get used to the controls and how to switch between spirit animals. Would have liked to been able to dive in a little bit more, but I could never get very far!

Overwhelmed by OhFiddleDiddle 2014-05-06T16:44:00

I really like the use of theme and the feeling of being, well, overwhelmed. Definitely increases the tension over time. Have to agree with others about the audio -- felt like it took me a little out of the experience.

Unknown by Pietro Ferrantelli 2014-05-05T01:08:00

Nice theme to tie everything together! Overall a solid, enjoyable experience. Found the camera panning to be a little disorienting at times.

Holy Moly by thaaks 2014-05-04T14:57:00

Nice and straightforward integration of theme into the gameplay -- made it easy to instantly pick up and play. Had fun for a few levels but ran into some slowdown on Chrome, unfortunately.

NecRobot by Zarkith 2014-05-09T03:23:00

Great style; the music was quite catchy!
I liked the idea behind the gameplay, but found it a little difficult for me. Looks like my necrobot will never be human ...

Woodcutter's Folly by Troy 2014-05-04T23:58:00

I like the mechanics, and the graphics are a nice implementation that meshes well with the audio to create a nice mood. I agree with the controls being floaty, perhaps moreso based on what we're accustomed to. Would have liked to seen more!

Drill by LinusPrime 2014-05-02T21:36:00

Why do drills love citrus fruit? I may never find out. Nonetheless I had a great time playing this. The mechanic was interesting, the levels well-designed and thought-provoking, with a nice progression curve -- until I got stuck on one level!

Unearth by Ben Whittaker 2014-05-04T13:54:00

The concept is great, and the projection really helps you to see 'beneath the surface' in an effective and unobtrusive way. Would have liked to have seen the full concept!

Air by inucode 2014-05-05T01:02:00

I liked the concept and the animations, but also felt that the controls, combined with the limited amount of air, made the game quite difficult. The jet propulsion feature was nice, but also a little frustrating to control.

The Moon Mystery by qntnm 2014-05-02T19:49:00

I really like the idea of stretching out a boss battle into a game. I really wanted to see what the moon was made of! Alas, I couldn't make it past the ice moon.

I had a little difficulty with the controls, particularly bounding off the side of the screen. I found it a little hard to control my speed.

Super Iceberg Hero by wschorn 2014-05-04T21:32:00

Controls take a little getting used to, especially once the iceberg gets quite small. I liked the tradeoff between ship size and melting speed. However, I couldn't really tell how much the small ships were increasing my lifespan so it seemed to make the most sense to beeline south.

Dagfin by DraKlaW 2014-05-09T03:17:00

Good use of lighting and the film grain effect. Spent a little too much time stumbling through the dark, and then I died. Would have liked to have seen what came next!

Mind Therapy by Detective Pixel 2014-05-06T02:36:00

The theme and mechanics were truly new and surprising -- something I truly appreciated about this game.

There's a lot of content here, and it's very well presented. I would have liked a slightly sharper difficulty curve, personally, but the curve as it stands is still great.

Very well done!

Earthen Terror by arkeus 2014-05-02T20:35:00

Excellent level of polish, particularly with the interface. The addition of enemies, blocked tiles, and spells adds interest and flavour to an already-solid base game.

I liked the subtlety of these changes, and felt that the balancing on "Normal" was generally pretty good. Difficult enough that I needed to pay attention to what I was doing, but not so hard that I lost interest.

An all-around excellent effort for such a small amount of time.

Infector Detector by Devtactics 2014-05-04T14:20:00

I love the concept; you've made great use of the theme. But after ~50 dead, I found things became much more guesswork. Perhaps having unique colours, so that people can be tracked more easily as you're trying to extrapolate where the original infector could have gone, would allow for a more structured approach.

But I still saved 76 humans, not bad for a day's work!

Submarine by Logun 2014-05-04T20:25:00

Excellent job working with -- and around -- the theme. A fun, irreverent exploration piece of just the right length.

Beneath the Duck Face by lorancou 2014-05-04T14:32:00

Alone in the chatroom, I feel like I missed out a lot of the potential of this game. Nevertheless, you really nailed the ending theme -- only game to get me to actually laugh so far!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Castle-Man by Hatscat 2014-12-18T18:00:00

Not always sure what I was doing but the music was a surprisingly good fit!

Spirit Dance by olkeencole 2014-12-18T18:17:00

Graphics and music really helped to establish place & mood, tying together nicely with the theme. Nice!

Sdioretsa by Tangent128 2014-12-18T18:12:00

Excellent job with humour and mood, set with just the right amount of text.

The Disk of Phaistos by hi-scor.es 2014-12-18T18:22:00

Very innovative, great build-up of mood. Seems like I could leave the screen area as the disk, which made it hard to follow. Great idea!

Evoccalypse by fued 2014-12-18T18:31:00

Nice variety of graphics! I agree with the above, though, really enjoyed the zombie switch but a little change in mechanics there would have been nice.

containment by Symmeteer 2014-12-18T18:35:00

Great idea, but couldn't figure out how to place gravity in the LD version. Nice progression to the finished version though!

The Blind Monk by PoshRaven 2014-12-18T18:39:00

Excellent idea, but I felt that things should have kicked in a bit sooner. Got bored after a few trips and only re-played after reading the comments!

Last Defender of Tenochitlan by hypothete 2014-12-18T21:15:00

Great background art, and excellent use and integration of the theme!

Would have really enjoyed to see what you'd have made with time to polish up the combat.

Modern Dwarfare by PoQA Games 2014-12-14T03:46:00

Nice tower-defence game -- I really liked the screen being revealed as the waves went on. Very well done!

Not sure if it's just me but I couldn't see the tooltip for the 2nd tower type. Figured it out pretty quickly though!

Protector, The Turret by lparker 2014-12-18T21:24:00

Like the others, great music. Found the rotation a little "clunky" too, but that's all part of the challenge!

Catlaser by flodec 2014-12-18T21:26:00

Graphics, audio, both really helped to create a good mood! Seems like you could move the laser right through the cat, though. Nicely done for such a small amount of time!

Lone Wolf by KeinBaum 2014-12-14T01:16:00

This game provided a really good challenge! The prey was really hard to catch unless you managed to corner it.

Wish the game screen was a little smaller, because I had a tiny amount of scrollbar on my browser.

Follow the screen by SumGato 2014-12-14T01:10:00

Short, sweet, fun to figure out. Excellent way to package your idea!

Tiny's Adventure in TV Land by Kate Kligman 2014-12-14T01:24:00

Excellent job of creating mood and tying everything in with the theme. Very charming! Wish the first level was easier (even with the hint)!

Bullet Hell by dkkarate 2014-12-14T01:56:00

Really liked how the background emphasized the "Hell" in "Bullet Hell". Like others, would have liked a bit of audio and a little less of a difficulty jump! Those turrets are hard to avoid!

Screen Door Panic! by XenosNS 2014-12-14T01:40:00

I almost went with a screen door theme, but couldn't think of a good place to bring it. But you did! Excellent job, I found this game actually really funny, mostly the choice of sound.

BUSY DUNGEON by MrLeePerry 2014-12-14T02:24:00

Fantastic entry. Fun, replayable, with great mood.

The banner idea is really engaging and only suffers a little bit from being a little bit small on the screen.

One of the games I'll look forward to coming back to!

Fun With Lasers by ALobker 2014-12-14T02:47:00

Really impressed you were able to make a level editor! Enjoyed some of the puzzles, wish you had time to maker more! Cute music.

Avian Avoidance by cleitoneldorn 2014-12-14T02:50:00

This is really cute - especially the audio, it really brings everything together. Clicking on the blood-pool to restart is really a nice macabre touch.

Hands Race by AnglerteamGames 2014-12-14T01:19:00

Some of the letters (like e, t , s) look quite similar because most of the thumb position is obscured by the shadow. You'll really need to study those carefully before rounds where they appear together in order to tell the difference!

Hands Race by AnglerteamGames 2014-12-14T20:44:00

I'll see if I can't put together another version with non-silhouetted signs for those who want a more direct sign-language experience!

GRIDMASTER 3000 by pixelguff 2014-12-14T03:51:00

Very solid entry. The decision to add in the hitboxes was excellent - turned what could have been a frustrating game into a tough but fair, thoughtful one!

Lightpong by thomz12 2014-12-14T19:20:00

Love the idea and the strategy -- really had to work hard to score a goal! Lighting & coloring made a great mood.

Find The Squares by lisac 2014-12-14T01:34:00

Very hard but I immediately got better at it -- that's an excellent job for a game made in such a small time. Great game, the color choice is really in-your-face, but I think that's really important. Would have liked a little audio to go along with it!

fisheyeroids by H4ssi 2014-12-14T02:18:00

Also really liked the fish-eye effect, excellent way to pack in "more space" onto the screen! Had a little difficulty with the controls, would have liked to have been able to right-click without the browser menu coming up.

Jewely by bigbadwofl 2014-12-14T19:39:00

Nice lighting, particle effects, and variety of enemies!

LD33 — You are the Monster

Ludzilla by highlyinteractive 2015-09-10T17:12:00

Unexpectedly funny! A nice fun romp.

Takodemon by Split82 2015-09-10T18:49:00

Lovely, sublime, and a great difficulty curve.

HOST by Noah Ratcliff 2015-08-24T05:03:00

Fantastic concept and execution.

Gargoyle Simulator by Raspadsistema 2015-09-10T17:57:00

Really enjoying the art style and wish you could've had more time to take this further!

you are the MONSTER TRUCK!! by dlmrky 2015-09-13T17:15:00

Great game, attention to theme detail, and well done pulling off a multiplayer game nicely. I did find the flat-colour shading a little confusing because I didn't really know what physics to expect, which made steering often unintuitive.

Excluded by Tanner 2015-09-13T17:22:00

Amazing idea. Like others, I kept dying of no stamina without much idea of what to do -- a little more clarity would help!

$!*# by Andrey 2015-08-24T04:15:00

Nice use of the theme -- but it got me to stop playing rather quickly!

Well done as a word search game, but was a little difficult to understand at first that each letter could go in any direction.

Constellaris by AnglerteamGames 2015-09-13T19:41:00

Thanks for all the feedback!

I've just had time to track down and fix the star-inside-circle bug -- it should register properly now.

I did try to take the theme in a different direction: you're playing as monsters in broken-up-constellation star form, trying to re-create your image in the night sky.

Creating The Monster by hrd_games 2015-09-10T16:52:00

Nice, unique idea that's cleanly executed. Wouldn't mind an increase in difficulty over time!

MISHMASH by bodsey 2015-09-10T17:48:00

Really like the graphics and gameplay, but got stuck in a dead-end trap of red planets!

Minotaur by cirpig29 2015-09-12T23:52:00

Nice theme! I liked keeping the focus on the treasure rather than the (insignificant) humans.

Gary, You Little Monster! by RegularSlinky 2015-09-10T19:10:00

Cute game, but the hitbox detection was a little hit-and-miss. Great voice effects!

Loch Ness by filiph 2015-09-10T17:35:00

Really cool strategy game! Got some "move null to ***" later on in the game ... as well as many serious blows.

Otherworldly Stars by Sam Twidale 2015-09-10T18:36:00

Great mood, story, and atmosphere. I do wish there was a little more interaction though!

Tenebris Morte by FerraWare 2015-08-24T04:48:00

I like the simple and elegant way you added some visual interest and motion to a choose-your-own-adventure!

It's Only You by Flaid 2015-09-10T18:41:00

Nice use of humour and tying in the setting for the tutorial. I've ... I've got to climb the rope.

Subterranean by K.Chplr 2015-09-10T18:02:00

Excellent job setting the mood!

Pro Gardener - Monster Edition by JoshyOshKenoshi 2015-09-10T16:44:00

Cute game and great audio! Found clicking the 'food' at the bottom didn't always take -- and missing one spells the end of the game!

Give My Egg Back ! You Monster ! by Sanka-X 2015-09-10T16:36:00

I really like the animations! Very frantic action, but the layout was a little confusing at times, especially since the camera is relatively zoomed in.

All That Glitters by cgmorton 2015-08-24T04:28:00

Great sound, great concept, lots of fun!

Would be interested to see a non-grid-based version!

No Country for Troll Men by aberdeenphoenix 2015-09-10T17:01:00

I really like the idea, but I started on a corner island with 6 sheep, no fences, no bridges, and no idea how to do anything else! Would have liked to have seen the rest of the gameplay.

The Last Witch by Tanton-XHX 2015-09-13T04:43:00

Excellent music! Gameplay was fun but I found it a little difficult to figure out what was going on initially.

Boss Roobot by darkpaw 2015-09-10T17:53:00

Interesting idea! It's a little frustrating not having control of the character ... but it helps make the point!

Cucumis Love by muit 2015-08-24T04:00:00

Cute fruit! The lighting is pretty interesting, too!

Out West by veoviscool12 2015-09-10T18:14:00

Just an excellently crafted mood and great story.

Doom, Death & Destruction (Tycoon) by WhoIsNoahGames 2015-09-13T04:18:00

Really excellent production (tiny text aside)! It took me a minute to realize my spawned units were in the bottom corner!

The Monster Anarchy by Krillzz94 2015-09-13T06:18:00

I really like the concept! It would be helpful to have a little more information on how to keep my health up without growing in size too much.

15 by KanjiKado 2015-09-13T16:57:00

Very nicely done! Clean aesthetics, gameplay that's very easy to pick up but becomes difficult to master.

Aberrant by Cake_Catastrophe 2015-09-10T17:07:00

Excellent mechanics and tie-in to the theme. Very fun!

BYSS by Gareth Jenkins 2015-09-13T17:04:00

I really like the interpretation of the theme and the tension created when choosing to change your monster. Perhaps with faster gameplay and a few tweaks this could make a great 'herding' simulator / puzzle game.

Motherflipin' T-Rex! by mantis 2015-09-10T17:04:00

Very cute graphics and sound, fun, quick and engaging gameplay. Well done!
