Weeha!! Mankind is alived!
Good gameplay and crazy jumping asteroids
Was a great game, thought that the controls could have been smother at times, sometimes I would fly straight through asteroids without penalty. Overall really fun.
Short and fun. Your asteroids look better than mine :) My only complaint is that currently objects pop into screen quite suddenly. Even if this was for gameplay reasons, it should be smoothed up a bit I think.
Thanks for the amazing comments everyone, I am really happy about it :)
Maybe the asteroids can be seen more early? Anyway nice little game.
Seeing the asteroids a bit earlier might be nice, but right now the speed and field of vision feel perfectly balanced to be punishing but not impossible.
the game looks greate and i liked to begin screen with the text scrolling.
I really like the design of the spaceship.
A problem was that I could hit a single asteroid, and lose all engines on consecutive hits.
Also, if you change the near and far clipping values, you can avoid the asteroids appearing and disappearing suddenly.
It feels really great to go really fast for as long as you can, but I wish the asteroids didn't pop into view as close as they do. When speeding at, in scientific terms, a bijilion miles per hour, I need to we able to plan my moves ahead. Good job!
I can't tell if the game was running really slowly for me and warping the soundtrack, or if that was the sound of the spaceship engine. The intro music was a fun time to listen to, though.
Not sure what the point was for "Press I for instructions" when it only added 2 lines to the screen that could have just been there to begin with.
Fantastic for a first jam game though, I know the anxiety that brings! Heck this is only my second successful jam so I totally get the anxiety and the impatience for 20 ratings. Good luck!
@papabirb I have tried it on three different browsers(chrome, safari, microsoft edge) and it seemed to work fine. Did you download the application and see if the problem still persisted?
Very nice graphics!
I lov howe the distance counter was accurate. Mars scared the **** out of me when it popped up lol.
Looks pretty, but not being able to see the left/right edges of the map makes it unnecessarily difficult. Good execution, though I would spawn the asteroids in farther away (or extend the camera's view distance) and make them despawn behind the camera (sometimes they disappear right next to the ship). The chaotic speed at the end was nice and intense.
For a simple game it's surprisingly fun to weave back and forth. The graphics hep, and the polish is quite nice (I'm talking about the damage messages). I get some pretty serious pop in with the asteroids, which makes the game a little harder
It's fun but the asteroids sometimes popped in right in front of me and I just died with no way to dodge them, I also feel like the left/right movement is a bit too slow and clunky. I think with more responsive movement it would make it feel more like a fun reflex based game and would give you more freedom to make the ship fly faster too. I also didn't like the background ambient sound, for some reason it was just kinda grating.
Nice game, but the edges is to narrow
Nice entry! A little basic, but very good first LD entry!
very basic ^^ i kinda got stuck at the invisible left wall and died overall solid though
It's like a space version of cube runner, I dig it! Loved the look of the space craft and asteroids, explosions looked cool too!
Engaging game play for being so simple, could use some brushup, I managed to get stuck in the left invisible wall, could be good to mark the edges out a bit (red fog or something) so that you see the limits of the game field. Anyways, good go and Cheerz!
lol had some hilarious moments with this game. I spawned into a rock and lost all three lives immedieatly.
@cptn-b @luddegodofpain Will surely post a post-jam version with this update showing the left wall.
I was about to say you should make the borders/walls visible as it led to some confusion when playing, but it seems others have already beat me to it!
@sharks yes they have? Can I add the feature right now???
Good job! Especially with the movement. It feels like the ship has some real weight when I move it.
@aryanjumani As far as I know you can, just make sure to put it on your game page that you've updated it and keep the old version so people can still download it. I've seen a few games that have separate JAM versions and then Post-Jam updates.
@brelx thanks a lot!! Appreciate all the feedback given by @blackgoku36, @jahwffrey @james-beninger @sinamon @dm2684 @gray-fustos @rein @aditya-kumar @pandepic @odeyalko @robotsandmuffins @luddegodofpain @sassykeys @sawtan @cptn-b @sharks @brelx @johnjoemcbob @igoreshka @danielrmorgan @gajop and @papabirb
@sharks  will surely do that tomorrow morning(its midnight here)
@aryanjumani The windows download build is just the source code (asset folder), but being able to hear the sounds without playing the game tells me mine was running just fine on browser. You just picked a spaceship engine noise that happens to sound like a warped soundtrack after hearing the intro music. Game works fine, no worries :)
Music was a bit crazy at the start. Very easy to understand the concept and you could feel the weight of the ship trying to dodge the asteroids. Could use a little more creative mechanics but great job so far!
@papabirb I myself made that sound combining brownian and pink noise in audacity and using several effects. Anyways good to hear you could play it.
@attx thanks a lot for the amazing feedback!
great job! the story text crawl is funny and the game is enjoyable. definitely some rough edges, like the animation and the music seems a bit like random midi notes. But it has a lot of charm and overall very fun!
@gno-evenimente thanks a lot! Will surely bring about these updates for a post-jam version!
It's a big number :). At first I though easy. Got 300 lives. lol.. then bam.. kind of generic game play. But very polished and well designed. Cool looking ship. ..Star wars touch too
I agree with the people before me that the asteroids could do with appearing and disappearing more gradually. Some really smart artwork on the space craft! It ran resonably well, I was rather terrible at it :D A fun game x
@marvalgames @ponypen glad you like the game!!
Nice entry! Very fun to play, maybe you could add a section where there is one path you can fly through and you have to do it without hitting the sides :) got potential for a mobile app too!
@vernalbehemoth thanks a ton!! The game works with touchscreen laptops by the way. Do try to check it out if you have a touchscreen laptop! Will surely make a mobile version for it as well. If you want you can check my other games on playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AryanJumani.RainVest
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AryanJumani.aMAZED
@vernalbehemoth Please note that the animations do not work with touch screen laptops!
Very grim future you paint there ;). It was fun to play for a while and the graphics were pleasant to look at. The constant engine hum got a bit tiring, I must admit. And I found running into the surprise edge of the playable area very surprising ;) - that's how I lost my first 100 people.
Overall, a nice jam job!
@fabula-rasa thanks a lot!! Good to know how all of you'll get stuck in my game . I have reached Mars a hundred times by now :nerd:!
What, only 300 of us will survive the current pandemic?! Nice game anyway. Regarding graphics, I wished the stars were moving a bit, but I get that it may not be easy to get right. The ship animations are neat!
@jeremyfa thanks a lot. The stars are a part of the skyboxes so would have to change all the 6 different skyboxes textures to get the stars moving. Glad that you liked the animations :D
A fun little game. It would be nice if the asteroids would not pop in so harsh and if it was a little clearer how close you can get to them. But a solid game overall.
A simple game. The graphics is better than controls, I hope you can adjust the controls and it would play much better!
Nice Game, I managed to get 100 people alive! Sadly 2 engines went down. The star wars style backstory gave me a laugh and the pandemic refrence. Also a quick sugestion, it would be cool to add alien shpceships to add to the suspence! Overal nicely made keep it up!
This is a simple game which is very pleasant to play. I really liked the atmosphere. The spaceship graphics are spot on. What I didn't like is the sudden flip (roll) to the sides when tapping A or D. It is so much more pleasant when you just hold the key down and it gradually rolls. It's a minor thing though. Oh and you nailed the "coming home" feeling when Mars starts to appear. For such a simple game this is very well executed. I got to Mars with 200 alive.
@lerg sorry you didn't like the controls al lot. I am coming up with a post-jam version of Earth 2.0(soon in the next few days). Hope you will like it then.
@nithman will surely put alien spaceships for the suspense in the post-jam version and thanks a lot for the amazing feedback. Glad you like the star wars effect :D
@attala Glad you like the game. As for the controls, Unity gave me multiple error when I tried to change the rotation just on a single tap and not make it look jerky but I didn't know what to do with Quaternions, they really just went above my head. :disappointed:. Feeling proud that you like the Mars pop-up!!
The ship was pretty cool, would say to work on the distance culling /LOD , as the rocks just popped into existence without warning.
Cool game. However, the control and the viewport frustrated me sometimes. Some more polishs will make this game rocks !! :v:
@johnnysix and @nghia-lam as said before, I am coming up with a post-jam version of Earth 2.0. There the game should be polished to all of your experiences(I hope )
I feel the movement of the ship could use some work, and sometimes asteroids just appeared in front of me out of nowhere. I managed to save 100 :)
Reminds me of *Race the sun*. I liked it!
@alobker glad you like it!!
Looking good so far, at the moment it looks like a work in progress. It's difficult to avoid a lot of the asteroids if they spawn right in front of you suddenly. If would be much better if you could see them from a distance. Would be good to see what you do with the game post-jam
Nice entry, The game looks really good! I did not like that the asteroids would spawn in front of me randomly, but I really liked the idea of multiple parts of the ship that can be damaged.
300 saved, first try! :sunglasses:
Graphics were well made, but the pop-in made it look kinda janky. I'd suggest an alpha fade-in. And steering the ship would have felt better if the tilting animation was smoothed out instead of snapping back and forth. Also, improve the music in the post-jam version.
Otherwise pretty fun and just the right amount of play time.
Nicee!! heehe
Graphics are amazing, and the gameplay was good. I didn't really like the steering animation, needs to be smoother. I prefer if the asteroids were spawn further away from the spaceship and the time that they need to desapear must be longer. Overall very nice game! Keep it up.
To @blackgoku36, @jahwffrey @james-beninger @sinamon @dm2684 @gray-fustos @rein @aditya-kumar @pandepic @odeyalko @robotsandmuffins @luddegodofpain @sassykeys @sawtan @cptn-b @sharks @brelx @johnjoemcbob @igoreshka @danielrmorgan @gajop @papabirb @attx @gno-evenimente @marvalgames @ponypen @vernalbehemoth @fabula-rasa @taddl @jeremyfa @lerg @nithman @attala @johnnysix @nghia-lam @francisco-caal @alobker @jamesolivermusic @niels @manderxan @iago-lunardy and @alkis, a post-jam version of Earth 2.0 will be coming in the next 24 hours! Just have to finish working on the audio. How about Seven Nation Army - White Stripes to be the background music for the intro(Created by me)?? Otherwise the left and right edges have been made clear, the ship's animations have become smoother and a fog has been given so the asteroids do not pop up suddenly(they do pop up suddenly in the first 5 seconds but then I think it is sorted). Hope you'll will like it!!!
Sorry If I missed out anyone in the comment above. Please tell me and I will change the post :D
Nice runner game. had some issues with the asteroids spawning randomly in front of me. would definitely like to play it again once you update the game
I added your game in my video. Hope you like it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93xk24_f670
Great game though the graphics could be better and same goes for the spawning mechanics. But still it was super fun.
Good game! simple but fun. There is a little bit weird when I try reach the left or right bound. Also, the suddenly appeared meteor is weird too. Maybe you can make some transition? Thanks for playing my game. I saw your meteor model on unity asset store when I was making my game.
Only managed to save 100 people, but still got there! Thank you!
Issues:
- Felt weird that at some point you can not move to the right or to the left in space - reaching bounds in a place that should not have bounds by it's very definition. Maybe, telling the player that it's too far from the course to Earth 2.0 and he should turn back would help? - Asteroids spawning unpredictably everywhere. At some point I've got one spawned on top of my ship, which destroyed it instantly.
Keep it up!
Great graphics, I liked the design of the ship. The increase in difficulty was good as well, it became pretty challenging!
Good game! The graphics is better than controls. I wish to improve the game and to fix the bugs! I found not correct colliders (
Cool game! I like the simple concept of dodging asteroids, though it did seem like they could spawn very, very close to you, making it difficult to avoid them in time. Other than adjusting the spawning, I thought it was great! Loved the music and intro too!
100 ppl saved. Very simple but nice graphics!
To @blackgoku36, @jahwffrey @james-beninger @sinamon @dm2684 @gray-fustos @rein @aditya-kumar @pandepic @odeyalko @robotsandmuffins @luddegodofpain @sassykeys @sawtan @cptn-b @sharks @brelx @johnjoemcbob @igoreshka @danielrmorgan @gajop @papabirb @attx @gno-evenimente @marvalgames @ponypen @vernalbehemoth @fabula-rasa @taddl @jeremyfa @lerg @nithman @attala @johnnysix @nghia-lam @francisco-caal @alobker @jamesolivermusic @niels @manderxan @iago-lunardy and @alkis @armani03k @g-a-gamestudio @lungtakumi @firellon @emmatw @coolestdoggie @ctrble @nosfer, the updated version of Earth 2.0 has come out!! Please play it(Named as Earth 2.1). More feedbacks and recommendations are most welcome!
**Note: The random spawning still persists in the first five seconds but then it is sorted out!Hope you all like the game now!!**
@aryanjumani thank you!
Looks great, plays fine, you need to fix the asteroid spawn, I had one literally spawn right in front of me and take out 2 engines because there was no way to dodge.
@anonymous, I hope you have tried out the new post-jam version of Earth 2.0 as the random asteroid spawning in that lasts only for the first five seconds, after that I think the asteroids spawn further away. The code was a bit difficult to debug but then I narrowed it down to 5 seconds. Hope you like the new version!
I'm sorry the feedback isn't super positive, but it's an infinite runner. There's nothing super special about it. Maybe I'm not the target demographic? Idk.
Short, but intense! I like the art.
Had to try game again as there was a new version. Still liking it. Glad to see you got the instantaneous roll animation fixed. However, now I feel the animation is too slow :) It should roll gradually as it does now, but faster so it matches the actual change in direction. Nice addition with the arrows on the side, and still loving it when Mars appears :)
@rahmkota3 it's not an infinite runner, the game ends once you reach Mars which is 140 million miles away(Info about your whereabouts are displayed on the top left). Really Sorry you did not like the game.
@attala will surely change it(just have to multiply speed by 2 and then it should be just perfect).
@randomhuman glad you liked it!!
nice game with hypnotic space sound. I would have liked to know the left and right edges of the play field. Also press enter to play again would had been nice. Oh and the rocks spawns infront of the player instead of always in the distance. Apart from that a rock solid (ha-ha-ha) game :)
@aryanjumani I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. If this made you feel bad or something like that, I'm sorry. I know it ends, I finished it and saved 200 people :) I just wanted to say that it plays like an infinite runner (you're trying to survive as long as possible and avoiding obstacles in the process). The game is ok for what it is, but it's nothing spectacular.
@rahmkota3 no it's nothing like that. I always want feedback from both sides(good and bad) and I am happy I have received some! Will surely put updates to make the game better. If possible please mention ways how Earth 2.0 can become better in your view!
@smiley the left and right edges of the game have been marked in the post-jam version of the game called Earth 2.1. The random spawning has also been fixed and now the game has a fog which does not allow you to see beyond a certain point.
@aryanjumani if I were you, I would focus on game feel (for example adding a screenshake when player hits an asteroid, maybe some ship parts could fly at the screen, or maybe add a near miss system (when player flies close to an asteroid you give him extra points) and show the player in some way (gentle screenshake or maybe have the screen flash a little bit), so that the player knows that he did something good. The near miss system should encourage risk in players, which is more fun than just avoiding asteroids. I was about to write that you should show the player some kind of score but it's already in the game, I just didn't notice it. That means you didn't show it well enough. Maybe change the color of the numbers (for example: keep the "distance travelled" white and make the score light blue if it's not a new best and make it yellow if it's a new best score). Also smaller numbers tend to work better because you can easily tell that 10 > 100 but it's not that easy to tell that 10000000 > 100000000. My last peace of feedback is: play other infinite runners and think why they're doing this and what purpose does that mechanic serve. Analyze why you're having fun with one game but not with the other. Good luck :)
Cool little game. The distance was picked well, it was long enough to not be trivial, but it was just short enough to motivate me to keep trying -- and make it eventually. Very happy I was rewarded with a separate victory screen too :) Congrats!
@rahmkota3 thanks a lot for the amazing feedback! Will surely update my game on your suggestions! Again thanks a ton!
@ditam glad you like the game! Hope the victory screen gave a Mars-y effect!!
Asteroids popping out of nowhere remind me of original Wing Commander games - unexpected and unforgiving... And it brings the feelings, that computer "cheats" instead of playing fairly - might be good to provide at least some way to see ahead :)
It's very simplistic yet still fun game to play. I liked the style of the game, but it kinda felt monotonous after a while. Also you didn't make the game difficulty too high, I managed too pass the game but not on my first try, which is a big plus! Overall a nice game !
Great game! Your 3d artwork is quite impressive. Good job keep making great games! Would like to see your other work!
great effort! here are some things I would improve: - The sound is too loud and has very harsh frequencies! Maybe try to filter them out. - I know the spaceship is supposed to have very indirect movememt due to space, but it just feels so uncontrollably vague that it kills a lot of the fun. - Try to bind the animation (tilt) of the spaceship according to it's current sidewards speed, and not the speed that the player is pressing! Because as it is right now the spaceship will do some very weird animations when changing directions.
Keep up the great work!
@remus-rain please see Earth 2.1(the post-jam version of Earth 2.0), it has all these fixes! Also I have updated the game description to make everything clear.
Well, all my comments have really been said before, and fixed in the post-comp. Good job!
Cool concept! I love the space theme, and the way you decided to combine it with the LD46 theme is awesome! I like the way you pitched the story at the very beginning of the game, because it's very easy to perceive, which is good. However, the game was complicated by unexpectedly appearing meteorites. There were times when I just didn't notice them ahead and crashed into them. I think the problem is that they are initially very dark and blend into the background. But still very well!
P.S. It's amazing how many tools you used to create your game O_O
Not bad, but there are disadvantages. Randomly appearing meteorites and blocking meteorites landscape of Mars. 1.jpgAnd bugs:2.jpg
Was playing Earth 2.1, I had one definite bug where an asteroid appeared literally in front of me without any warning and destroyed one engine then before flashing wore off immediately destroyed another engine. Another game I hit one asteroid, it re-positioned me into another asteroid after engine was destroyed which hit an asteroid then immediately hit a third one ended my game. The pause button didn't seem to do anything. Losing to this is frustrating.
On a playability front, when the planet appears in the distance it can be virtually impossible to notice any of the asteroids from then on against the dark blue background as they fade into the dark colour of the planet (this only happens on darker screens). I did eventuality win with 100 people left alive.
Definitely needs some polish to handle some of the gameplay issues that I've encountered. The minimalist audio works well with the space scene. While the gameplay area graphics are well polished some aspects of the UI could do with some additional work and polish.
@kjscott thanks for the amazing feedback! Will surely change the game according to your feedback. Just noticed that the pause button didnt work :disappointed_relieved:.
The game seems really nice to play, buut, this side limit made me crash twice hahaha
I would recomend completely free lateral movement (Without this barrier) For you to keep spawning stuff in front of the player you can calculate how far he can go sideways at any given time and use that as a spawner always locked to the player's position
But the game is really cool, the graphics looks good and everything snaps together really well...
Well done ^^
@shunaky thanks a lot for that! That update will surely come up but it might be after the results come because school started again :disappointed: and we have our exams coming up in the next two weeks :face_palm:
Nice little game you've made :) The Sounds of the Engines are a bit...annoying after a while.
But overall nice Game :)
The control and graphics is overall really good. The sound effects is also pretty good, but the music in the intro was really bad in version 2.0, but it is much better in version 2.1. The gameplay idea is okay, but it is nothing new. So this is overall a pretty good jam game. Well done.
I love the particles and sound effects. Gameplay was solid as well, but getting bumped into repeatedly by asteroids quite annoyed me. Maybe a little warning system would've worked better in the player's favor?
@tunahead and @jk5000 thanks for the feedback! I know the engine sound gets a bit irritating after a while but couldn't think of any suiting background music for it so I just put a repetitive engine sound which I soothed a bit in version Earth 2.1!
@valeth2124 will surely do that and put it on...(any good platforms to get my game played and rated??). Glad you loved the particle effects!
Nice and simple, but it works, plus you're a beginner so I can't fault you for starting with something small and simple. That's always the best way.
The 3D graphics are very good quality, and I appreciate how you slow right down when you hit an asteroid, so you don't two lives in rapid succession. The engine sound was actually kinda relaxing, I didn't mind it, but it did cut out after a while. My other major piece of feedback would be to make Mars transition into view a lot slower and smoother, because right now it just kinda appears from nowhere when you're halfway there and it really breaks my suspension of disbelief.
For a first effort in a game jam, and in 3D to boot, this is a pretty good start. I hope to see you enter future jams!
@f1krazy thanks a lot!
Hey, thanks for posting the game for my stream!
Played the original and Post version. In both managed to save 100 out of 300 people... that's enough right? We don't need ~that~ many humans on mars I'm sure... XD
Cool retro vibe.
@iak haha saw your stream on twitch! Thanks for playing Earth 2.0(and Earth 2.1), and yes, we do not need so many humans alive on Earth, it just started with 2 humans right?? Also glad you liked the atmosphere of the game!
A cool Game with some nice Graphics and some soundeffects.
The Mechanics work very well. Unfortunately its hard to see where an asteroid is comming when the mars is in the background.
But overall a good Game. Well Done
@deathstorm thanks a lot! I know it is tough to see the asteroids but I wanted it to be like that so that players crash more at the ending because the game is easy and so I made that fog purposely. Glad you liked the game although!
