Fun, and really hard. Although I did realize that just spinning around and constantly firing was the best strategy, which made it a a fair amount easier. My best score was 1756 (I think).

djfariel 2017-05-02 02:33

Apparently the best score possible is 1772. It was a lot of fun, but more variance or random elements would have added replayability. Good job!

greeny7 2017-05-03 10:27

Game started to be easy after I found that I can constantly spam rotate button + fire button and instantly destroy all enemies. Also, my score was 1856.

z4f1 2017-05-03 14:01

My score got bugged so didn't see it. Other than that it was fun to play!

walnoot 2017-05-03 14:05

Got ~1600 after cheesing it by spamming left arrow and space alternatively :p. But its a nice game anyway, quite polished

selbryn 2017-05-03 14:08

Not working on mac!!

huynq 2017-05-03 15:32

I do not see the MAC version

davikin92 2017-05-03 15:36

You can try making it more fun by making it spam-proof, maybe limiting the amount of bullets you can fire at a time or timing your fire tightly with the enemy incomings or increasing the enemy spawns infinitely to see how far a player can get spamming. Fun for a short game :)

sean-m 2017-05-04 02:23

Nice! Graphics and sound were cool - definitely fits in the theme of the jam. Next time it would be cool to have some explosions when we destroy the enemies :)

saxops1 2017-05-04 13:45

@huynq @selbryn Does the unity file not work for you?

recyx 2017-05-04 14:50

I really liked the mood and graphics in the game. Add some explosions and maybe some different enemy types with e.g. armor and weapons and it would be even better, well done anyway! We made a space game ourselfs check it out if you want: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/42-mikronikus

joemid 2017-05-07 17:39

Screen Shot 2017-05-07 at 12.38.05 PM.png You don't have a mac build. I can play on mac, but technically, only remotely off a pc or in a wineskin wrapper. ;) Will try later on Win.

Really challenging but fun game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yuMfX69kxA

bajarymi 2017-05-11 06:21

Very well laid out UI

sir-magic 2017-05-11 06:38

Nice game, I enjoyed it.

**What you did well**

The core idea of the game was very good. I really liked the idea of turning to shoot ships and the high score was a nice addition (1600). I also thought the choice in music suited the game and the graphics weren't too bad either.

**How you could improve**

At first, I liked the idea of the ship's movement with each rotation turning the ship 45 degrees but I later realised it could be exploited by using left, space, left, space and so on. Maybe you could use the mouse to rotate it or something to make it a bit harder.

Overall, a nice game that fits well with the theme.

(Also, I would really appreciate a rating for my game [here](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/planet-dominion))

subwooferx3 2017-05-11 07:19

Alright entry, could've used a bit more variance or maybe some gameplay revolving less around spam. It was fun nonetheless though

bladesides 2017-05-11 14:40

Well done! Music <3, challenging, but not too challenging that it makes it kinda "bore" if you know what I mean.

P.S. Helping you to build a word cloud :D

alexandr-rum 2017-05-11 14:55

Very cool music, at first I just listened to her forgetting about the game)) Sounds are also very suitable, but for some reason you can not put a rating on sound and music. Overall I liked it, it's simple and clear!

josefalanga 2017-05-11 15:00

That's some good game! Keep up the good work.

saxops1 2017-05-11 15:15

@alexandr-rum I ran out of time to properly do music, so I had to go to some royalty free music, and I didn't feel comfortable people judging it when it wasn't mine.

arcticmattekar 2017-05-11 15:27

Nice artwork. I was kind of bad playing this game (entirely my fault). So I always died quite fast, but the game wouldn't stop and would produced more and more enemies and I couldn't get to the menu (I am using Windows 10):

Except that, I enjoyed playing your game. Keep it up

geckoo1337 2017-05-11 16:10

Cool and challenging game. I noticed some bugs but for a project in less than 72 hours it is good enough. It fits with the theme. Thumbs up ++

kroute 2017-05-11 16:48

At first I thought the game was way too hard for me. Then I realized that I could spam the space button while turning non-stop. It allowed me to kill all the approaching enemies quite easily and it made the game a little bit too easy ! But otherwise, it's a fun game with nice graphics.

cassio-eduardo 2017-05-11 21:39

I didn't like that you could only rotate 45 degrees, free form rotation would prevent the exploit that other people mentioned (spam). Maybe I missed a restart button, but a auto restarting upon death would have been very welcome.

doc-ill 2017-05-12 00:05

Yay, I made to the end using the infamous spam technique! :D While not very innovative or long, the art was very stylish. Maybe one way to eliminate the spam technique would be to include stronger enemies and a stronger weapon-type/powerup with limited ammunition. I see a lot of potential in this game!

occultone 2017-05-12 02:38

I played this on Livestream Today at the request of the Developer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zCqO_O0iIo

I had trouble with getting past the first level, might need the difficulty curve tuned a little. Unless there was something I was missing.

spyispie120 2017-05-13 11:50

It was a really fun and "simple"(It got hard real fast) game, although quite easy to exploit like others had mentioned.

The idea of restricting the movement to only 45 degree is ok, but i don't think there would be much diversity into making it feel more fluent; Maybe change the movement mechanic into using the mouse, therefore your ship would rotate much faster, and that would allow a much more fun game play experience. From that you can expand your game like more type of enemies, upgrade for your weapons, a Giant Floater, etc...

Overall, I think this is a very nice simple game you got here!

florian-van-strien 2017-05-15 11:29

The graphics of this game are really nice! The gameplay is a little bit simple, although that's not necessarily bad of course. I would've preferred being able to rotate in any direction, I also think that would look a bit better. The game was pretty hard when not using the button mashing exploit.

Minor points: - Powerups or similar would've been cool! - I liked how you could still see the enemies that defeated you for a little while. However, this did make restart a little bit longer than I would've hoped.

saxops1 2017-05-15 12:36

@florian-van-strien Thanks! Powerups were on my TO-DO list, but I ran out of time to get them working properly, so I had to cut them.

zener 2017-05-16 21:18

Simple but fun! I died fast at first but then I started firing fast instead of playing strategically. It worked

atmospherium 2017-05-17 21:58

I really wish that the player could fly around instead of being locked to the planet. The ship movements on the title screen were entertaining, but they never had a chance to move in interesting ways during the game itself. I like the art-style and the subtle animations you gave the ships.

I found that I could easily beat any wave simply by alternating between firing and rotating as fast as possible (which definitely isn't the intended strategy).
