Nice little game, a bit short unfortunately. The collision is quite buggy, you get stuck in the floor all the time. Also the overall feel is "floaty", make the player move faster.

Getting stuck in the floor happens very often (forutnately you can just jump out of it). The voice acting was a positive surprise.
@aggrathon & @Endurion I am looking for the part in the code for the collision! But thanks for the feedback.
Well done ! Things I found cool : - Graphics (especially the player sprite) - Voice at the beginning - Your game tells a story
Things I would improve : - Controls : I think it's the most important thing you can easily fix. Try to make them faster, and smoother - Collisions - Sample length (for music) - Level size
Good job, carry on !
@Tom-Fr Well thanks for the feedback I am working on the Improvements!
Nice start! The voice acting is good, and the graphics are nice, especially the main character! The collision code definitely needs some improvement, having to re-jump after every landing, just to be able to walk again, was becoming annoying :-)
Test Comment!
Too bad there is so many problems with navigation, because I really like the idea as you described in the description of a boy trying to see the snow. Sadly I didn't manage to get out and poor Timmy will have to wait for someone else to grant him his wish.
Keep working on games! :smiley:
@cvetk Thank you for the feedback!
I'm really bad at writing game reviews so here are a few things I noticed while playing your game:
*I really like you take on the theme here, it's actually rather interesting.
*The graphics look great. They really do.
*You might want to consider making the music longer as it gets repeditive pretty fast.
*The collision system is (as a lot of people have already pointed out) quite flawed and I got stuck pretty often
*The voice in the opening animation sounded really good
Solid Entry! I did not get to the end but I did quite a bit of exploring. One thing I did notice was that there was a jump sound when I used the up arrow but not on space bar or WASD which also worked for jumping.
I just wrote a game with bad controls, so I can't complain too much, but controls definitely need some work.
The story/background was quite nice.
While jumping around is definitely something used for challenge in some games, I found this not challenging at all. But without some better controls I would not want to attempt more challenging jumps.
Nice work!
@Eathan Allwood and @Laaph thanks for the feedback ill try add some of it. Ill ceck your game tomorow.
It's a nice game, but the direction is a little bit weird. Sometimes, a can't move when I jumped, a jump a little, or I can't jump :(
- Great intro! Loved the voice over and the overall presentation. - If you press the space bar while jumping the jumps seem to come up short and stiff, particuarly with running jumps. I found just using the arrow keys works a bit better. - I liked the player character's graphics.
Overall great job for your 2nd LD! Looking forward to playing more of your games in future events.
@Kate Kligman thank you Im looking forward to your next games aswell.
@ragnta thanks
I quite liked the graphics, especially those of the player. There could have been a few more animations, though. Also, sometimes the tiles seemed to glitch around a little, but that's no big problem of course. I liked that there was music, but it was a little repetitive.
As others already said, the controls could have been a bit better. I understand that this is your second platformer though, for that it's already pretty good! I didn't get stuck, at least, I know that was different in my second platformer. :P Also, I didn't play very long (as I really couldn't get used to the controls and sometimes fell into a pit without a way to get out without restarting, please don't have that mechanic) but I didn't really encounter any gameplay beyond jumping around. I think that would've improved the game, as there are lots of platformers already so it's nice to have some unique gameplay. But maybe I just didn't look long enough!
Minor points: - The bottom text on the menu is pretty hard to read. - The jump sound effect doesn't really fit. - I liked the intro very much!
It feels like a lot of times I needed to double jump, since the first one wouldn't go very high. An animated walking/jumping sequence would be a really nice addition. I liked the fluttering of the coat after a jump while falling.
I like the art and that characters animations, although there were a few small issues. When you jumped you would always look left, even if you had been facing right before. Additionally, you had a lot of places that were exactly the height of your character that were pretty annoying to try to jump straight into. Its annoying enough in games to try to jump directly into gaps like that, but I think that was also the cause of the problem that a number of people have commented on having. Whenever I hit my head, when I landed, my feet went an extra pixel or two into the ground. I would then have to make a mini-jump to be able to normal jump. I have no idea what was causing it, but it was pretty consistent. Hopefully you can fix it. I am always a sucker for platformers.
@Florian-van-stier Thanks. There is R to respawm
@ryan thanks
@Prototyke Ive been looking for that bug but i cant find it. I might alao change the jumps a little.
I think the art of the player is decent, but a little static when moving/jumping (although I understand it is pretty tough drawing animations in such a short time). The fact that you managed to make background music is great, but it may get a little repetitive after a while. I enjoyed the little cutscene at the start with the voice acting :) I think the controls can be made a little more "tighter", so that movement doesn't feel too imprecise. The collisions are also a bit strange at times, but those are very minor issues. Overall, I think this is quite a good job, especially for your second Ludum Dare. Keep it up, and I hope you'll continue participating in the future! :)
@btwj Thanks for the Feetback!
Not a bad game, especially for a second game. Unfortunately, the controls were a bit buggy, but the graphics was really cool.
@Gulyasarni66 Thanks!
Well, it's ok. Graphics are quite good, but gameplay sucks and is very slow. Also, collision detection doesn't work perfectly, as I got stuck in the ground quite a few times. The background music was way too repetitive, but the voice acting was nice.
@Julian Creutz thanks
Needs some mechanics! Besides that art style is great, would have like to see a jump animation though. Cutscene was a nice touch but I imagine it took up quite a bit of time :P Sound was really quiet for me I actually didn't realise there was any until I read the comments. Anyway overall quite good, would suggest to focus more on game play and how your controls feel in your next jam.
@fpwong Last time I didn't concentrate on the art so this time I used a little too much time on it!
A Nice game, considering that it was made from scratch with java in such a short time. The collision is buggy, and sometimes i couldn't jump, (dont really know why) Nice concept anyway.
This is an okay idea, and story is fun, but there is really not much to do in the game.
@AyyAmThe1 and @jk5000 thanks, fo the feedback!
Good entry for a compo. I liked the feeling of it and definitely, the voice over intro was great (maybe add a small blank before it starts to have some time after starting the game). Physics was a bit off and slow. And also scale between the character and the blocks didn't feel right. (And yeah, the collisions are also a bit wonky)
Congrats on making a game! :)
@MaxguN thanks for your feedback I'll try to fix something in a few weeks!
Nice game. I liked it a lot. :thumbsup:
I loved the intro. But actual game does not give any challenge.
I've made it to the end. Only challenge make you hero jump. Sometimes he jumps a little bit. And do not move after.
But the best thing is when you fall down his coat was waving. That sweet detail.
Anyway, nice work and thanks for game without killing anybody. ;)
Nice work! Movement didn't feel great (jumping was the main problem), not really sure what the real objective was beside get to the top (no real obstacles).
If you could play and rate my game would be appreciated!

Very unique take on the theme, great job! For feedback - it would be great to have more of a challenge and obvious "end goal", if you don't do further iterations on this game, it would be nice to implement in your next project!
Nice pixel art and story, although some things like jumping feels really off like the jump is either really short or really high. Good job on your entry!
Cool introduction, with voice over. I liked the style of the game and the storyline. It was a little short, but had a nice feel to it. The controls could be better, but it worked. I didn't like that the menu need arrow keys and enter, but the game was asdw. Would have been nioce if the menu reacted to asdw aswell. Cool game though!
@gimbalock you could also use Arrow keys In-Game!
@drkr and @ DaisyChibb Thanks
Controls need a lot of polishing. It doesn't feel natural at all, it takes too much time to jump, it doesn't work every time and you can't move on the air when falling. Sometimes I got stuck on the ground and couldn't move. Level is too empty in detail and content.
I liked the intro, very cool voice acting. But overall there is still a lot of work to do.
:D

@Dester24 well... Think you found that funny!
Voice acting is a pleasant surprise, the rest of the audio, mainly the music, wasn't as enjoyable though. You chose an ok melody for the music, just play with it in some other variations, mix in a bridge of some sort, a break in the melody for a few bars and try to stretch the loop to maybe 45-60 seconds,then you should be good to go in that department.
Player graphics looked nice, walls too. I saw that in the resources and the map file you have different edge pieces defined, so a big improvement which you could have managed to do in a lot less time than complete player animations would've been drawing all those edge pieces to make the dungeon look more pleasant.
Regarding the controls, one simple improvement is to not stop the players horizontal speed completely once he touches a wall. Just check every frame whether you can go to the next tile, so the player doesn't have to press the key in the direction he was going again...
Of course the collision bugs should be fixed, my guess is that you move the character first and then check for collisions. If you do collide and stop the player, then he is already stuck in the block. Try keeping the player position as it is while checking for collisions and if nothing blocks the way, move the character :smiley:
The level design was a little flawed, especially the blind falls into dead ends which I could not escape, nobody likes that :/ Try either giving the player a larger field of view so he can see whether a pit is a dead end or a passage or removing those dead ends in general...
I noticed you left a temperature bar in the assets, which I can only guess would have been some kind of compass/positioning system, would have been a cool addition :smiley:
Oh, and the tiles glitching... I think you used a self written engine, didn't you? So I'd suggest making sure all the tiles are updated every frame or even going as far as implementing a camera system for managing all that. Of course, the easiest (and probably best :grin:) solution is using an existing engine :smiley:
@somethingboutgames thanks!
