I didn't seem to be able to get very far, at most i was able to kill a couple of ants. I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but it seems that whoever attacks first wins a fight. I liked the idea of the reputation bar though.

As said before, the game needs a little more strategy! However the concept of the reputation bar and being in an ant colony is really cool!

I liked the different UI's for the overworld, combat, and dying. :) The reputation bar makes the game.

Nice idea. I was a little confused about what I was supposed to do to win fights.

I kind of like it, although it could need more strategy / concepts. Also check out my game. I just need a few more votes

Oh my f-in god, the sheer creativity with all the caps and little boots on the ants, I laughed much harder than I should, especially whith the lvl4 ants with their thunder + the game over screen:D

Okay. This is actually fun :) For me, mostly because of the visuals. Gameplay, while quite simple (you can get the grind down after a few tries and barge through the game quite easily then), still managed to keep me playing for a few runs.

**A good addition** would be some **randomization**, so you couldn't mathematically know if you're really going to win - you could either randomize the damage a bit, or levles (e.g. ant in cap - 1 or 2, ant in booties 3-4 and so on). That would make the game more challenging and would make the player use 'run' option much more.

I liked it. You really went full on with the developer art, and the mechanic is actually quite solid :D

Cheers, and stay awesome!

The concept is interesting, though it felt like the only way to "win" was to grind a few levels until you get beat the next stronger type of ant without difficulty. The large leap from level 5 ants to a level 9 queen probably contributed the most to the feel of it being grindy. It almost feels like Sim Ant meets Pokemon for combat.

florian-van-strien 2017-05-14 22:33

The visuals are very much programmer art, but (or and...) quite nice/funny because of that.

I like the idea of the game! The combat system is really simple, maybe a little bit too simple. It feels like there's really little strategy, and that the game is a little bit luck-dependent, especially in the beginning (I sometimes got killed really quickly by level 1 enemies even though I was level 1 as well). Maybe some special attacks would've helped, and I think that should have even been possible in the short compo time. Maybe next time :P

Minor points: - I feel making the color of your sprite your back color would've been nice. - Going down/up in horizontal corridors into one-tile wide corridors doesn't work very nicely. - I like how the ants are all actually animated!

I had some trouble leveling up at first and I died a number of times But I did get the hang of it after a few tries. I even killed the red queen! GREEN TEAM RULES!!! Other then a very hard start you did a good job!

sn4pi 2017-05-15 13:01

I really liked the level system so that you have to kill alot of enemies to get stronger over time. The different enemy types were shown in a very interesting way, evn though I would have liked some music in the background :3 Still it was a good game especially for a single person to do! Really like the idea and concept you elaborated for your game. I just think the game is still kinda unbanlaced to level up. In this, I recommend creating some new ideas into the mechanic to make a little more dinamic and fun to level up your ant. But that was a very interesting idea that really has a very good potencial to become a great game, keep it up! Great job, anyways! ;]

Cool concept but pretty tough - sometimes ants would respawn behind me and I had no way to survive after that, especially at level 1 when you could get into an unwinnable fight. Once I figured out how hats corresponded to enemy levels things got a bit easier though. Reputation mechanic was interesting but wasn't quite clear how it affected the game. Lots of potential here though, would be cool to see this improved upon. Nice work!

This art style is something! Little flashy and could use some polishing but it has a lot of charm. Love the mood in the game. It was a really hard game though, some balancing is still needed. and remember no one loves you and you are alone!

I saw, that you need some more votings on your game and I gave some on the "sceenshots" I saw, since I'm on a company laptop and can not install games right now. So hopefully you will cross the border (ratings) we also still need some ratings.

ragnta 2017-05-16 18:48

@hackschnitzel Do you have any browser on your company laptop? :)

zener 2017-05-16 21:01

Nice concept, it takes a bit until you get the mechanics but I like that there is a battle part. Good job

lone-spelunker 2017-05-18 16:41

Interesting little game. The art style is something that I haven't seen before - looks like it was hand-drawn and scanned in?

I liked the premise of the game, but I didn't manage to get very far. I played several games where I'd die on the first fight because the other ant would go first, which seemed to be the sole determining factor on whether I would win the battle or die. That made the game a little too "swingy" for me - I would have appreciated something that would bring more strategy to the table.

Still, it all appeared to work, had a consistent and interesting art style, and had some little humorous flourishes, like the ant leg sticking out of the grave at the end.
