A very enjoyable sim. It was a fun challenge having to manage all of the satellites to make sure they didn't collide.

fenerax 2018-08-13 09:05

Little confusing what to do at first, ended up walking in circles. After I got it the game was fun. The audio and graphics were really good and worked together to make a cool mood.

dangogamedev 2018-08-13 09:06

Nice little platformer. The art looks really nice and the player looks really cool, also really like his animations.

deniskazantsev 2018-08-13 09:07

The game has really pleasant aesthetics (art and sound)

star-sought 2018-08-13 09:08

@fenerax That was a problem I suspected the beginning might have, thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked the music and mood!

predominant 2018-08-13 09:15

Amazing! Loves the take on running out of space being the memory of the character, and that requiring tape changes. Very cute game!

missalpha 2018-08-13 09:16

A lovely little game with brilliantly charming graphics and good use of audio, very well done!

zzr 2018-08-13 09:17

It's hard for me to relate this game with 'Running out of space',and the size of the maze is maybe too large. Maybe it will be more fan with some gimmicks. The audio and graphics are really good which push me finish this maze.

jole 2018-08-13 09:25

I enjoyed the concept of the tapes! Music is also very good.

sprvrn 2018-08-13 10:38

Really good mood on this one! I liked the simple yet neat graphics too.

michno 2018-08-13 12:00

Most people are taking the running out of space theme too literally. thanks for making something fresh and creative :bird:

jiri-hysek 2018-08-13 12:01

Nice! I like how you are learning player what to do. Minimalist artstyle is very enjoyable and concept of tapes is original. Great little game!

mrjorts 2018-08-13 12:11

Wow, I really like this. The theme is very clever and unique, the character animation is great, and the music and sound effects really give it a memorable mood. My only critique is that there's not much depth to the gameplay, but I really enjoyed this entry anyway.

flyingkiwi 2018-08-13 12:22

Great programmers art, good exploring of a top down tile game, interesting theme on ejecting tapes to move around floors. Animated character is quirky, its great

erendelous 2018-08-13 15:21

Amazing game! Really nice graphics, kinda "atmosphere", and good music! Great job:)

qazikol 2018-08-13 16:14

Aww yeahhhh! Really love this. The palette, the developing character animations and, of course, the developing music cohere in a way that's really evocative. The simple gameplay really foregrounds that atmosphere without being trivial, and uses the promise of further developments as a far more worthwhile incentive than just opening a locked door. Didn't expect to be so emotionally affected by an LD game, ahah.

rs11s21n 2018-08-13 16:16

very cool art and sound work!

star-sought 2018-08-13 16:18

@qazikol I'm actually thrilled you enjoyed it because I had the exact same reaction to your game. Aesthetics team unite!

borjan1peovski 2018-08-13 16:41

The music is very nice and the art is also good. Interesting take on the theme, something new for a change. The atmosphere was the best part about it. Great entry.

qazikol 2018-08-13 16:45

@star-sought Whah, thanks! Yours is a fair bit more polished though, ahah :') Really encouraging to see other people making games with an "artier" focus!

derek-volker 2018-08-13 16:50

Whoa, thanks for doing this game. The description sold me on the crt-robot and sound effects are from my microwave, but i didn't have any idea of how nice the game would be. Good simple yet effective graphics, very well implemented movement and collision with no bugs, OUTSTANDING soundtrack and even a nice message for what the crt-robot have lost. Congrats!

star-sought 2018-08-13 16:54

@derek-volker Thanks for the great feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

talia 2018-08-13 18:36

Really nice pixel art and animation. I like the constantly changing screen in the one mode. No special challenge but very nice to play.

alexfalkenberg 2018-08-13 18:44

Conceptually quite lovely, art is great, and the audio is fitting. Really nice job.

The world felt too large and thus rather empty, overall. I'm glad the arrows were in there or I would have been lost. I wonder if including some story-related scraps of tape or something, or just added nonfunctional set pieces splashed around more would have really sold it as a complete experience. I didn't really get the emotional connection, but I'm often in developer mode and not in gamer mode, so I'm constantly looking at mechanics anyway. Gonna rate this one high, and I hope you do well--please expand and update it, too! :)

(I'd give you extra points for using Godot if I could, btw. Love the engine.)

star-sought 2018-08-13 19:01

@alexfalkenberg Thanks for the feedback! Bits of story and set pieces are exactly what I plan to add when I resume development. I'd like more complex platforming too. The game originally had jumping and teleporting, but I couldn't quite get the feeling right, so I scoped down and focused on what I had.

alexfalkenberg 2018-08-13 19:08

@star-sought Smart move. Hope to see more when you get there. :)

enver-arco 2018-08-14 00:08

Well done for making a game for this game jam

ashment 2018-08-14 03:18

Bit confusing at first. That said, great game; The music was cool, and I really liked the character's sprite.

wildcard 2018-08-14 11:49

I can't say much of what hasn't already been said, well done on an surprisingly touching game!

stevenjmiller 2018-08-14 16:02

I love the music and art! I would love to see this concept taken further. Currently, the tapes act mostly as paths to the levels, but I think having multiple tapes to see or block parts of a level would make for an interesting puzzle mechanic.

draeskai 2018-08-14 17:14

Nice entry, music and graphics are cool! Thank you for the arrows to let you know where to go when you collected the items :D Nice work!

crastinator 2018-08-15 01:05

The game gave me the feels! Loved the beat and the dangling antenna. With a more defined story line I could see myself buying this game.

kunonooni 2018-08-15 03:53

What a really nice game. Loved the music, and the deep inspirational backstory it really gives the game meaning and purpose. Good job on the graphic as well. Congrats on finishing your game!

star-sought 2018-08-15 12:18

Thank you everyone for the wonderful feedback. It's been an absolute blast participating in the dare and interacting with the community, and I really can't wait for the next one! In the meantime, I'll be continuing development on *Eject Tape* with your feedback in mind, under a new project at [star-sought.itch.io/eject-tape](star-sought.itch.io/eject-tape). The submission, of course, will stay the same for future playthroughs and ratings, and I'll continue to play, review, and comment for ld42 until the play+rate period is over.

I honestly can't overstate how much your complements and feedback impact me, especially those of you who found the game touching or emotional. Communicating that feeling is the goal of all of my work and to have been successful at that is deeply fulfilling. Thank you again and I hope to see some of you again in the future!

remco 2018-08-27 12:50

Polish, music and SFX, graphics, all very nice, and I like the way you do tutorialization (throughout the game, rather than just the beginning; the little arrows after you solved the mazes). On the whole, though, it felt just a little bit too anaemic for me (despite the size of the last maze), probably because given the style of gameplay, I expected a little more story.

While it's good that the interpretation of the theme is less literal (I can see why some others like it!) the way it is now feels a bit bolted on to me.

It _is_ very relaxing, and plays smoothly, which is always a nice bonus in between all the hectic pace of the other games :-) Which is to say, the mood is great!
