I think I have to clarify some things. The game is named "Tetrominal Space" because you were supposed to build your spaceship with tetrominos while evading the sun and the void.

Then where are the tetrominos and the building system, you may ask The answer is simple, Godot decided to shit the bed with the help of Locke8's code. The game is nowhere as fun without the building system, but he (Locke8) sadly couldn't fix it even after 7 hours.

This also was my first ever attempt at art and pixel art in a game jam, and I'm not too proud of it since the actually good parts, like the GUI for placing blocks wasn't added due to the building system not working, and the other parts are rather bad imo.

I like the idea, definitely fits in with the theme! The controls were tough to get used to. Would be interested to see it finished with the building system if you plan to add that!

Interesting idea but was difficult to tell where things were when they were off the screen. I plummeted into the sun a couple of times when I thought I was going away from it. That said, there's definitely scope to develop this further with more time.

Quite a fun game, but after couple of attempts controlling the spaceship around the sun became quite easy, which lead it to be a little repetitive. I really liked controlling the spaceship, which seemed to be the main mechanic in this game. Maybe some gatherable objectives could have been an interesting addition? The art style had a old flash game charm in it which I liked, but the space ship itself was a little weird. The game could have benefitted a lot from very simple audio, but this can be of course a lot asked from game jam games. The thrusters could have been a little larger as it was sometimes quite hard to click them while the spaceship was rotating like crazy. I got to score 4000, hopefully that ain't too bad!

Controlling the ship by enabling the thrusters is a really nice idea! I got to 630 points before trying to hit the thrusters with my mouse got too hard for me, maybe being able to toggle them with the keyboard or something like that would have helped

Fun and challenging game, the random events create a lot of tension at points. I think that instead of the arrows, a mini map would have been a better way to communicate bearing. Overall is a good game bit it lacks polish, sound and atmosphere.

@mhm32167 I would have loved to finish the building system, unfortunately it would be rather tough to do so, and i doubt i will.

locke8 2021-10-05 17:06

@cubanfrog Whoa, i didn't think anyone would play this game for that long. I certainly agree on the audio, but i simply couldn't mange it with the time i had, i preferred improving the gameplay instead. Thanks for the feedback.

I saw the name of the game and thought "My GOD, is there anything unique I can make? That must be exactly the same concept as my "Orbitris"". Turns out, no, it isnt the same at all. Nice little game, it looks great, extra points for the nice stars effect, I like it! I was able to get ~1100-ish points before get sucked in by the black hole. Which I totally missed because it was masked by the blackness of the space :)

Totally agree that minimap would make things better, but mouse thruster controls feel a bit more fun then suggested keyboard ones. I would experiment with more idfferent mouse-activated elements of the ship, like turrets to shoot asteroids, or magnetic rays to collect something. Someone could find a lot of fun in those "control hell" games.

Very tough game for me personally but I still enjoyed it! Sometimes it was tough to see the trajectory my ship was flying in other than the particle effects from the thrusters, but the distance indicators helped a lot. I enjoyed the added stress of the random events on the map as well. It sucks that you weren't able to get exactly the game you wanted mechanically, but I still like what you guys were able to put out and I'm glad you shared it regardless.

goldyxen 2021-10-07 22:12

@bootak that's a nice game concept you got there buddy :)

since you died to a black hole here's a black hole fact

black holes where supposed to have a special effect around them but godot didn't allow it because you have to do some fuckery with project structure for it to work

goldyxen 2021-10-07 22:12

i acidentally sent my message twice and i hate it

intodarkness 2021-10-08 13:46

Well i think you can improve your game but for Good Job

locke8 2021-10-09 10:06

@bootak Hey there, thanks for the feedback! I was actually thought the same in regards to the controls, i didn't really want to change them as i saw them as part of the game's challenge. I actually had the same idea in regards to adding more clickable components to the ship, if i had more time i would have probably done that.

rufson 2021-10-10 04:25

You have a nice concept here that requires some more work and a lot depends on how much you want to develop it. Very good feedback from commenters like: bigger thrusters, upgrade system on tiles ship surface etc. Maybe would be good to turn off smoke and instead of it add flames to the thrusters. Personally, I would make bigger sunshine glow so you can feel faster that you are in trouble. Canvas is not limited to res on window size and for example on 4k screen I see a biger space image(kinda cheating)

I listened to this generator while playing, nice vibe: https://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/intergalacticSoundscapeGenerator.php

Good luck!

@rufson Thanks for the tips! i'm not sure if i'll keep developing this game, but if i do, i'll probably use this help.
