LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

10 Second Script by Gabe 2018-04-26T01:09:34Z

I was grinning the entire time. Brilliant idea! Only thing I wish there was, would be a game show soundtrack going in the background. The kind that are played during time-restrained answers. That would make the 10 seconds even better!

C://TEXTRIS.EXE by Ryan Gannon King 2018-04-24T06:02:47Z

As @stderr noted, the Windows download is still missing the UP DLL.

Apostle: Vanguard by Shess 2018-04-26T00:19:06Z

Devs, this project looks fantastic and I'm sad to see it left with no ratings. If you rate other games, it puts this game up higher in the search results. I recommend you do that if you want to qualify for the rankings at the end of the rating period. Also, you're sight won't load for me to download (I'm based in the USA), so I suggest you upload your game's HTML version to https://itch.io/ for people to play it. It's free, simple, and you can even set up a donation/pay link.

Arbust's Revenge by sirikan 2018-04-24T05:37:41Z

A card / battle royale game. You mixed those genres well, and everything was well done. My few criticisms would be that there should be something to tell you to look for the wizards, and that the turning responsiveness was a bit off. Initially, I thought that wizards would spawn after a certain number of waves, and I couldn't aim well because I couldn't stop turning at least semi-instantly. Other than that, I enjoyed myself!

Drive Threw by Zachary Burkett 2018-04-24T04:07:39Z

You are an Indie 500 driver, as well as a expert cook! Left me wanting to complete the first order, but sadly the game crashed each time about 10 seconds after I started driving. It also mixed in the puzzle aspects of random orders from customers.

Roundabout: ~ Roguelike & Rythm ~ Trading Bard Game by Gustavo Manchae 2018-04-25T18:38:49Z

This game reminds me of Slay the Spire. The feedback system is done well, except for a few things. I couldn't really tell if my combos were doing extra damage because I timed them with the same color note. Simply making the note larger if I timed it correctly would have fixed this problem. I was also confused whether I should play a card in front or behind the line that a note of the same color was on. If that doesn't happen and those notes were just for decoration, that's definitely something that could have been implemented. Those notes should have been a different color if that wasn't the case. It gives off the impression that you can time them.

The art was well done, but the overall mood of the game really needs work. Other than that, it's a cool game!

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention, which actually added to the mood a bit, is that the character blirbs were hilarious.

Idling Racer by voxel-box 2018-04-24T06:16:04Z

Idle clicker and racing game. Entertaining once I figured it out, but almost quit before I figured out that you needed to click the race in the menu item. It was fun to mess around with, and the mechanic is pretty well designed. A few criticisms: No sound. It would've been so much better with an idle rumble when the car was moving or slur when you bought gas. I had no idea the race listed in the menu was a button. Oh boy, the turning radius. It should at least be doubled. Also, yes, the collision could be improved. On that note, I was absolutely not expecting it to spin. That's a good feature.

Fish Fighter by GiovanniBarrottu 2018-04-24T03:56:26Z

Eeek! Links are broken! I'll bookmark this and come back later!

Shake'n'Shoot by WilloXs 2018-05-02T19:30:25Z

Nice art, good and hip soundtrack, but I either broke something or some mechanics were not explained. I started the game testing the firing mechanic. "Oh hey, cool, a Samus/Anime power". I started wandering a bit then and ran into the enemies. I tried firing at them, but nothing happened besides the base animation. It looked like I "dry fired". Anyway, I spent the next few minutes trying to figure out how to get it to work again, but nothing worked. Leaves a little to be explained, but it's a great prototype!

Pongun by Yack Sebblen 2018-04-24T04:31:27Z

A sideways space shooter and digital tennis game. So much fun! It has minimalistic graphics which has the nostalgia of old games. Left me wanting to have it as an on-the-fly game.

Light At Night by Extrone 2018-04-24T05:59:21Z

Colorful and vibrant platformer. Made it past the Impossible Level! Loved the fact that each level had it's own track. Loved the colors, the difficulty, and the game itself. As for criticism, I couldn't really see another genre mixed in.

Spatialsurf by Chronorealm Productions 2018-04-26T01:19:25Z

"Spatialsurf is a cross between Hi Friends!" I was confused at first, but then I realized your description has a little mistake in the beginning.

Very cool game! I really liked the intro where the camera pans down and levels out. That added a great deal of effect. Criticisms: After the spawner reached max speed, the spawn sound started getting slightly irritating. If you ever have a sound that's going to be played over and over again, it's best to have a sound that's either muffled or not very sharp. I also wish each different colored "note" had a different sound to it, or at least a different pitch. It could have become a strategy then, to make a beat out of the incoming "notes".

Things I loved: Although the notes aren't different per color, the explosion sound is still satisfying. The "warp" streaks around the player look very cool. The overall aesthetic of the game was unique, and I liked it!

Universe Godot Control by Klaus Dellano 2018-04-24T04:18:01Z

A cute, simple platformer. Sadly I wasn't able to see another genre, and it seems like the gameplay wasn't given enough focus. Graphics were cute, and the vaulting mechanic was smooth. Left me wishing for a story or a known goal.

Ah! Runaway! by Reign 2018-04-24T04:41:16Z

I got a better score by mashing all the arrow keys as fast as I could! It's a great mix of the rhythm/infinite runner genre. I didn't notice if you actually did implement this, but it would be nice to gain a pace after hitting a large combo. Left me wishing it would slow down and wait for me to catch up! :P

Gear Head: A tale of no arms. by StueGrifn 2018-04-26T01:00:57Z

There is no way to escape from the options menu!! Exiting by 'Esc' tries to open a save, which crashes the game because there was no save at the time.

The sounds were cute, the protagonist's comments were laughable, and the aesthetic was good. The music didn't come back once I crossed the river, and that took a lot from the mood of the game. Overall, sounds nice, looks nice, played nicely, but the story didn't keep me intrigued for very long, sadly. It's mostly because I'm not a fan of RPG games, so I'll give you a rating compensating for that.

Quickdraw by nudle 2018-04-24T03:53:32Z

A card game showdown. Beat the bots, collect cards, find the golden king of bots, and kill em'. It was innovative, but left me wishing for Anti-Gravity and a more motivating goal.

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-24T05:14:57Z

@Kobrar @smallboss @sirikan @Extrone @Reign Thank you all! Most of the 'story' work came in last minute--literally--and was only possible due to the system I had set up. I'm glad the mood came out as I'd hoped!

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-24T08:01:53Z

@saoi-games Thanks so much! I must have left just before or something, my bad. Watching it now :).

There are a few fixes I'm making at the moment, for instance the download name was wrong. Also, entering your name was evidently broken, but I just fixed it. It's great to see people play, because I can then notice what's not working correctly.

Yup... I wanted to implement ammo... and it keeps going... lol.

Oh, and the command line memory feature, that's a fantastic idea!

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-24T20:46:01Z

@CalebLewis I appreciate the feedback! I agree, there aren't many console games anymore because it's not a very popular genre. I'm an oddball of sorts when it comes to games, so I absolutely understand if some don't enjoy the functionality.

Thanks again!

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-25T06:02:37Z

@Kindred lol. I didn't have anybody to test for me, and ran out of time. I'll make an extended version with all the features I wanted to include at first. Maybe you'll have fun with that one :).

OPERATOR by Hello.Coder 2018-04-26T18:06:54Z

@Yahialds Thank you. A little motivation makes anything possible, so go for it!

Waifu Defense by GT3000 2018-04-26T00:42:50Z

The game looks hilarious, but sadly the build file is broken. There was no .exe, and running the .json file just opened my code editor.

Turn Snake by proda 2018-04-26T00:11:19Z

The concept is cool. You play in a multiplayer match against other friends in a hotseat game, and plan each turn one by one. I didn't have a friend, so I tested with my invisible friend, Myself. I had a third friend, but he didn't want to play. His name was I. Altogether, we were Me, Myself, and I.

Enough with the terrible puns:

As I said, the concept is cool: mixing snake.io, classic snake, and turn-based strategy. The pathing was nice, but kinda finicky. There was no indicator that I noticed which specified how much time was left to each turn. Sometimes I would finish pathing one snake, and the turn would suddenly begin. Maybe I didn't understand, but I feel like a quick description of how the game worked would help. Also, sound is always an incredible way to entice players. It helps give feedback, increases the mood incredibly, and just makes the game feel nice.
