@Alex13 It works fine on firefox for me, plus there are downloads for every platform.
It's a game where you have a pet giant skeleton snake of death controlled by obsolete technology. I mean *that's* creative. PS: HTML worked for me.
@Blinkenlights Can I use that for promotional purposes? :)
@Kobrar Of course you can!
"Traverse a dungeon with your trusty pet", what else do you need in your life? Great Job. Feel free to drop a review at our game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/boomball
those red monsters are out for DEATH!!! XD
really needed sum pet backup as i cudn't get very far & i'm really not a WASD guy lol. i tried texting ATTACK, KILL, GOPIKACHU, HELP, 999 but it didn't take XD i like the music & the dungeon traps, its got a real indiana jones thing going. just wish the karate chop was a bit more savage! XD great stuff dude ^__^
=)
Texting your dragon is a pretty funny mechanic, and a good fit for the theme. The gameplay is actually quite fun. That being said, there are a lot of frustrating things about the game as well. The 1st issue is that as others have mentioned, the web build isn't very widely compatible. That may not be your fault, but I tried multiple browsers and had problems. I downloaded the Windows build, and it worked flawlessly. However, summoning the dragon just feels really random, as it may or may not kill the beasts. I definitely think the game would be better if the dragon AI was able to seek out enemies. Finally, after the "thin corridor" where you hide your dragon for the first time, that bullet hallway is really tricky. It seems you can't completely avoid damage by dashing, which wouldn't be a big deal if you could just take a few points of damage before reaching the end, but you then spawn beasts from the already cleared room behind the player, which is completely unexpected and makes that hallway really hard. The funny thing is that spawning the dragon there would have killed them, but the game just got finished instructing the player to hide the dragon! Basically, the game is fun, but it definitely could have benefited from more testing and iteration to iron out some of those issues.
A quirky concept that I must assume you thought of in a fever dream. 😆 Points for creative thinking there.
Unfortunately, I don't enjoy typing texts in old school phones, so that part of the game didn't give me much enjoyment. I likely would have tried to get further if there were checkpoints, because after three deaths I just didn't want to go through the parts I had already passed anymore. Most people rating LD games will not spend a ton of time playing each entry, so I would definitely give that as my main suggestion for next time.
The art is pretty basic, there's room for improvement there, but everything is clear and functional.
I LOVE MR CUDDLES
I loved to play the game
I really enjoyed playing. Mr. Cuddles is awesome. Thank you :D
Web build worked fine for me. Really funny game! When I died multiple tiles it was frustrating re-doing the same beginning of the game again and again, so I finally just played with Mr. Cuddles at the start, which was very enjoyable. I wish there were frequent checkpoints in the level. Also minor bug, if you type any command before typing COME, the game crashes.
@patrickgh3 Thank you so much for your input! Especially the bug report! That's what I get for ifelsing a state machine >:| It's a valuable lesson to know that there is logic you should never quick&dirty.
game keeps lagging and jitterying so it was hard to play, the num pad is interesting
@Kainkun Lag is an often issue in the html5 version, you may consider downloading the game for best experience. Than you for playing!
Pre-playing post: I just saw your main page post "UGH THIS THEME" as soon as I saw that third day image I burst into laughter and knew I had to have a play.
It's hard to me. I need check point. But it's really cool, Nice work!
funny that u praised my game, coz yours was the game i really wanted to go back for. i refused to believe i couldn't defeat it. i don't know how i missed the commands first time round, but this time i was ready! had to keep queuing up those "COME" txts in preparation for a tight spot. the really irritating thing is i couldn't get the dragonsnake (which seemed to hav a mind of its own lol) to go forward on a straight path to cover me so that last final end stream of bullets was a NIGHTMARE!!!! (it won't be receiving any cuddles from me! XD) but after 1 hour 30 minutes i finally beat it!
WADDYA MEAN I LOSE!.dib
& don't be so hard on urself, it certainly doesn't suck, it's a cool, with sum nice level design & tension & i'm extremely impressed by the amount of content YOU managed in the short amount of time. this is the game i hav played the longest out of all the LD games....including my own XD
thanx for an entertaining game. keep it up!
@SHINBAXTER Your comment made my day! Thanks a lot! You are probably one of two people on this planet who finished it. Congrats!
Was kind of amusing. I didn't really care for this theme either.
Wow. Really impressed with what you have here. Only played HTML- but the only bugs I experienced were with fullscreen. Reloading the tab seemed to clear out any issues. At first I was a little underwhelmed- though the slapping mechanic was surprisingly satisfying. Texting was a drag- doing it on a qwerty board- mac laptop- no num pad- didn't realize I could click- I think I was scrolled down, so the tutorial at the top was cut off- THEN I SUMMONED MR CUDDLES. Holy shit. That guy makes everything better. The level of thought that you put into this game is fierce. I will have to come back to complete with the mac download- thanks for that- btw, and thanks for the great game!
the struggles to complete it again were REAL! XD
