The art is really cool ! the game is really hard though...

mrspeaker 2017-05-01 15:09

Yeah, I agree with @astrkl - really great art! And the way it segues from one area to the next feels really nice.

There should be some kind of indication that the enemies are planning to jump... like, they should have a pose for "about to jump" otherwise it feels a bit unfair that they randomly jump up and hit you and there's nothing you can do.

"Be careful of the people of the world who want you dead for some reason" made me laugh out loud for real.

HUJ.png Made it in 32s with 4% health :D, the game is pretty challenging and I only finished because of good RNG, other than that pretty fun, graphically is really good, the only thing that was annoying was being a bit stuck on collision wit somebody and no indication of enemy jumping. good game overall!

The idea for the game is really good, and it fits the theme well. Okay the difficulty level i a bit high, but it is still pretty fun to play.

I played through this game 6 times and won twice. As other people have said, the art is really good and you made great use of the theme! Right now, I feel like whether you beat the game is somewhat luck-dependent because enemies move around and jump fairly randomly, and sometimes projectiles appear from the side of the screen without any warning and little time to react (or you're currently jumping and literally can't react).

Some minor nitpicks: -If you go up to an enemy and hold right, you get stuck to them and can't get past them even if you try to jump, which feels bad because the player naturally wants to move right (I think this is some common Unity physics thing where you can get stuck to objects if you're holding left/right). I died multiple times to this, so I think it would feel better if you could pass through enemies, or jump over them if you're holding right. -The sound effects were confusing, because it seemed like you had sound effects for all of the enemies, but not for the player! It would have been nice to have audio feedback for player actions, especially for getting hit because the flashing animation isn't that clear.

Overall, I had a good amount of fun, even though it is a short game. You really knocked it out of the park with the graphics, and the game is very thematic (and the title is brilliant). Good job!

Great pixel art! I think you can improve it with an health indicator, the ability to crouch down and maybe some theme music (different for every country). p.s. Add Italy! :flag_it:

caryoscelus 2017-05-03 08:16

Never knew the most dangerous thing in a world travel is people who stand and jump in your way and compared to that people trying to shoot you with all kinds of throwing and firearm weapons are just a little nuisance!

Nice idea and nice graphics indeed. Sound effects are just annoying and the lack of health bar made it really hard to estimate win possibility.

I think it would be nice if the people you meet would say some thematic reason to kill you before starting to attack.

There are a few improvements that can help the fun out of the game. Because there is some. The situation may not be clear all the time, but in the end i had fun and the realizaiton was nice

Nice background art, I managed to get to america on my best run but it felt like luck more than skill got me there. Maybe the different enemy types should have different but predictable movements.

It's a really cool idea for a game and I really dug the artwork and all of the characters, however it was pretty hard and I found the gameplay frustrating. I didn't like how the character got stuck on any of the enemies when I ran up against them. The jump didn't feel that great either, felt like it wasn't high enough.

The whole experience reminded me of those boomerang throwing turtles in Super Mario Bros, except there's an endless sequence of them and you can't jump on their heads. I really didn't like those turtles so maybe thats why I found it frustrating in this game.

Graphics are cool and very similar to my game lol https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/naziverse-1. By the way, it's a pretty game concept and I love it. Nice game dude.

I really like the graphics. Could do with a bit of music. The problem is that it is simply way too difficult - I couldn't beat it a single time. It seems like a lot of the time you will necessarily be hit by a particular enemy at least once, meaning that you basically have to be perfect for all the enemies that you can avoid. In particular, I have no idea how to get past the second or fourth enemies without getting hit, or in general any of the enemies that throw projectiles.

lilkrit 2017-05-17 01:13

I like it :) The idea was very cool and the transitions between zones were nice. The game was a bit too slow for me though. Pixel art was nice, I loved the backgrounds. Thanks for making it run in browser!

veralos 2017-05-17 10:15

I made it!

Health: 34% Time: 34.84 Total Score: 1530

Nice take on the theme. Do you actually have to complete the game in 80 seconds or was that just for the sake of the title? Anyway, it's pretty cool how the different countries have different backgrounds and different types of enemies. The difficulty is a bit high, though - it feels like it's almost impossible to avoid all the enemies. Perhaps it would work better if you took more damage but the attacks were easier to avoid. There should also be a health indicator. The graphics are quite nice but the sound is a bit lacking. It would be really cool if there was a dynamic soundtrack that gradually shifted to suit each location. That's obviously infeasible for the time given but I'm just throwing an idea out there.

Nice little game! I loved art style (but perspective camera feels wrong IMO). Also, it would be great to have some UI (like progress and HP bar) and music.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I’ll try to check out any games you have available for me as well.

I’d like to provide some responses to your feedback:

- Art: Axle and myself filled in some missing frames, modifying frames of completed characters. I did a couple of the weapons. All backgrounds and character designs are from Mike, he did about 99% of the art involved.

- The challenge: This game is intended to be incredibly challenging. I guess some people are frustrated by this, so after judging is completed we’ll probably tweak it a bit. Personally I feel that the speed aspect is a little to easy while the damage avoidance is a bit too difficult. Still, I hope that no one ever completes the game with 100% health. I certainly haven’t.

- Enemy jumps: The enemies seem to jump randomly because they actually do jump randomly. I hear the complaints that theres no indication of when this will happen, and am considering changing the animation (after judging, of course).

- Stuck on enemies: This is something I don’t think we’ll change. If you run into an enemy, you should back up and approach again. If were were to update the game so that you can avoid an enemy AFTER you’d already run into them and are still all up in their face, it’d make plowing through enemies too easy. The challenge of this game is balancing speed and caution.

- Adding Countries: We might consider adding after the judging. Right now, most people who complete the game do so in about 35 seconds, so I think lengthening it is a good idea.

- Sound/Music: The simplistic sounds and lack of music are because of time constraints, so these might be worked on afterwards.

- Heath Bar: Another thing omitted by time constraints, we’ll add this is afterwards.

- Time and Scoring : Someone asked if the time limit is actually 80 seconds. Yes and no. If you pass 80 seconds you can still keep going, but the end score is calculated by the time it took and your remaining health. Over 80 seconds and you get no score for time. I haven’t decided if we’ll add any on-screen timer.

- Other improvements: As we were running out of time we had to omit a couple things. After judging we’ll probably add in a title screen, on-screen controller instructions, easy restarting, maybe pause features and high score saving. The stand-alone builds weren’t finished because of input glitches that prevented jumping, so maybe we can fix that and created downloadable versions as well.
