Amazing art !!!
Excellent graphics.
Cool art and characters! Reminds me of the Addams Family
Cool art, it could be more challenging with more obstacles and people in the water
I genuinely like the writing. I was unsure whether the angling of the ship takes the flow into consideration or if its due to the perspective that the turn upwards was less visible. But it dodn't hurt the game.
Looks and sounds very nice! Also some nice banter text. I wish there was something else to do, or something else to work towards, rather than just grinding for souls. But other than that, great stuff! :D
How is Charon?
nice entry. i liked delivering souls, very cathartic. 470 souls and only took 1 damage.
this is a really fun game but I cant access the leaderboard afterwards? is mine bugged? I wanna see my top score! pros to the coders of the game!
Really well put together game from a coding standpoint and such incredible art. The biggest issue for me would be the repetitive gameplay although the back and forth banter kept it interesting. Another critique would be the UI as I was unable to view the bottom elements that were vital to the gameplay while zoomed in. Overall this was an incredible peace of art and the sound design/song was impressive.
I'm not sure if there is an end goal or not, but if there is it's too hard to reach. I got to 300ish souls before getting bored and calling it quits. I get that the monotony of Charon's job is probably part ot the joke, but I would've liked to see the ending if there is one.
Regardless, the presentation is fantastic! The art style is very nice and manages to convey a somber tone while still being charming. The music sets the mood well and the sound effects all feel appropriate. The dialogue gets a bit repetitive after a while, but adds a nice bit of personality to the game.
I really like the art style! Amazing jam entry and tbh I’m quite jealous about the name of your game! How clever!
Very beautiful, and polish. Nice lore, music too :)
i liked a soudtrack lovely grafics style cute souls interactions, i dont really get the idea of logs in styx river but it goes well with the overall slightly modern aesthetic of the game.
It looks fine :) , but I am not sure with the controls. And very fine soundtrack.
Loved the soundtrack and the graphics, also loved the Greek mythology theme !!! Too bad I couldn't see everything from the UI, but that's a very nice game you did there !
A great meditative game with a touch of humor)
Great game; it's a unique take on the theme with good art to back it up, and the dialogue was impressive in both writing and implementation for a game jam project.
It took me a while to work out that I should use space bar to start moving, I'm not sure if this was explained anywhere. The gameplay could have been more varied, although already having a mixture of different obstacle types is good. Maybe it could start easy and get more difficult over time?
I liked that hitting obstacles took away some of your souls, and especially that if you weren't carrying any it took away from your total capacity; this made the journey back a lot more tense.
Overall, the game was a lot of fun and has a good level of polish already!
I loved the occasional puns from your little soul companion, it added a nice touch of humor to the game. It was also all very well-presented with the dialogue boxes, characte portraits, plus I enjoyed how the soul talks to you during gameplay. The art is also very nice!
I found the gameplay a little repetitive and the end goal seems very lofty given how many souls you can carry so I think that could have been adjusted a bit. I liked it a lot overall though, good take on the theme.
Really incredible art style! The default view on the web build made things zoom in, had to figure out a way to make it full screen to fully enjoy. And it also took me a bit to figure out the controls but they're so simple it wasn't that big of a deal. Love how hitting obstacles reduces your total capacity, a very interesting take on the health mechanic.
I was a bit confused on the controls at first, a note somewhere about what I was supposed to be pressing would have helped. I enjoyed the writing, that really added to the experience.
Amazing art and music ! The gameplay gets a bit boring after a while I guess, but who cares, you got everything else, and with just a few adds this could be an awesome game ! good job for this entry, it's stunning !
@matthewrf thanks for your feedback, we really appreciate it! Re the number of souls you need to collect.. well let's just say it's an arbitrary number that was meant to give us the ability to tune it a lot lower, forcing a few play throughs before you saw the endgame, only due to time, the leader boards and endgame got "skipped".
@hmrpf thanks for your feedback! We definitely were so ambitious in the scope of the general game that we ended up not spending enough time tuning and concretely navigating the mechanics to be extra fun. But I'm super glad you enjoyed it!
@veralos I have a feeling you played the version that was cached before tuning. For some reason, itch never ended up showing the final version in time for many players and so you may have missed the best version we had at the time :'( this might also have been the same for @nuin @frib and @catbutt
@holydemiurge we have leaderboards ready now but we didn't want to put them out too early and spoil the spirit of the jam, since we techncially only hooked them up after the 72 hour window and had finished our playtesting :( Then again, it doesn't really change any gameplay or features so we are thinking to add it in anyway once most of the votes have already come in and show it as a post jam update
Awesome art and narrative. And it also looks polished enough, good job!
Super cool theme interpretation and beautiful arts! But there are too much dialogues for my taste, the ones during gameplay were especially annoying since they hide part of the river and obstacles. Other than that it was fun.
Amazing art and music! The writing was also enjoyable, although the gameplay was a little bit repetitive. Edit: Also I really like your interpretation of the theme. It's one one of the more unique ones I have seen thus far.
Nice game! We had a similar idea :D
Like the humor in this and the way the theme was integrated. A great entry! Keep it up :-D
What a lovely game! The art style was wonderful and I was feeling the vibes. Excellent entry!
Cool art and music!
The gameplay is hard to judge because it was lagging so hard and kept completely freezing on me. Would have loved to play it without lag because the mechanics seem fun.
Overall, solid submission
I really like the art style but it was hard to play the WebGL version of this game. The viewport was humungous and many elements were off screen. I don't know if that's just my computer or not. Could an executable be made available for download?
@johnsensei @sjpixels we could do a windows downloadable build if you wanted. It's a good idea really. Technically it should be enough to play in browser, though you may need to click the full screen button in the bottom right hand corner for the best experience. I have also added it in our list to try and see how a slightly smaller window works out for some post jam stuff:) @k8n sorry you didn't enjoy all the dialogue! We put a pretty hefty focus on it to make sure the repetitive-ish gameplay would still feel interesting to try and continue to go through. And the little mid game dialogue was intended to be distracting, so that's great! :P
Thanks all for playing and enjoying <3
@baconeta - I figured something out. If I click the fullscreen button provided by itch.io, the viewport gets huge and game elements go off screen. If I click the fullscreen button provided by Unity, it looks fine. You can see in this image how they're stacked right on top of one another. If it were me, I'd disable the itch.io one, it's a simple check box on your itch.io page. Screen Shot 2023-05-05 at 4.13.21 PM.png
What a beautiful game! Rowing was fun and the text was funny. The music fits well too.
This is a very relaxing game, I loved the dialogue and character design, and that souls would say something sometimes. On the first walkthrough it unfortunately froze on the dialogue of Persephone, and I had to refresh the page. Would love to see the concept expanded, maybe with more story/goals to reach?
Really well polished game (though it did crash on me once). Would have been nice to have more sensitive controls but faster moving obstacles. As it was I often new I was going to be screwed into crashing well before it happened and couldn't do much about it.
Nice take on a sort of Greek mythology dark Frogger game. Art is absolutely gorgeous and the writing's enjoyable.
Lovely Art! Humor was spot on, the dialogue was great. Simple effective game play that is enhanced by the humor of the characters. Really nice job. Could really see this developing into a cool arcade game with more than a weekend worth of development! Great job.
Cool game, love the art and the music!
