LD53 — Delivery

Why Deliver Y ? by Aurel300 2023-05-02T02:37:28Z

Wow, I enjoyed this one! The mechanics and puzzles were really clever!

Airborne Adventures by firellon 2023-05-06T14:25:10Z

I really liked the pixel art in this one, and the writing was super fun! I really want to see where you were going with this one. I also really like how the music shifted when you were falling to your doom. That was an excellent touch!

I have 2 suggestions for improvement for you:

- When delivering the newspapers, the dialogue for that just hung around a loooong time. You should definitely make that work like the dialogue with the characters where you can press space to progress it. That being said, I did notice you could just move on and the newspaper would just disappear out of my inventory when the dialogue finally decided to finish several platforms away, so it didn't really stop me. - I'm afraid this isn't super specific helpful advice, but moving on the ground felt bad. Like, the character felt like he was trudging through a swamp when he was walking. Granted, you spend most of your time rocketing, so it really wasn't that big of a deal, but still.

Paper Guy by cortexdeveloper 2023-05-03T13:41:12Z

I really liked the paper on a table aesthetic you had going on there.

Delivery DRONE by kasperhangard 2023-05-05T02:39:19Z

I liked the physics you added in there, that added a lot to the experience. I do have a couple of suggestions for you. - I really liked the music at first, but after several minutes of it.... I can't compose so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but that one loud higher pitched motif got really repetitive. I feel like maybe something more chill would have suited it better. - The physics was definitely the most fun part, I feel like if you could lean into that a bit more and have more stuff that interacts with that mechanic, that would really add to the fun experience that's already there.

Kittens: A Tale of Yarn and Woe by FlashViper 2023-05-03T02:21:55Z

That had a pretty fun gameplay loop. The controls were good, and didn't feel like a jellyfish at all.

Flingshot by John Gabriel 2023-05-02T02:49:09Z

I thought at first I was supposed to be landing the vans in the circle, and could use the parachute as a backup, but apparently that was not the case.

Overall though it was pretty fun!

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-02T18:05:15Z

A little...disturbing... but the actual game mechanics were super fun. Really well executed!

Oddsburg by EvilScotsman 2023-05-02T02:09:31Z

I really liked the atmosphere. I had no idea why I was receiving statue parts or why I was building said statue, but it was neat on a surreal level. That being said, there wasn't much game per se, it was more of an experience. A neat trippy experience. I would have appreciated some more context, or some more dialogue, because the 3 lines of dialogue I found were all pretty great. Anyways, I'm going to go stew in my own syrups now.

Thou Lines by VeniTheRich 2023-05-02T01:22:41Z

The first night I was trying to come up with something that involved the delivery of a speech, but couldn't figure out how to do it. Good job on coming up for something with that!

Styx and Stones by Baconeta 2023-05-02T18:15:12Z

I was a bit confused on the controls at first, a note somewhere about what I was supposed to be pressing would have helped. I enjoyed the writing, that really added to the experience.

HMS Deliverance by Sherwin Claridge 2023-05-03T13:19:07Z

I thought the mood and graphics were on point. I do have a few suggestions for improvement though:

- The harvester seemed to just grab resources randomly. While practically speaking, this doesn't really matter, there were several moments where the mothership was sitting next to some asteroids doing nothing while the harvester was doing its thing off screen, and it *felt* as if nothing was happening, even though it objectively was. Having the harvester prioritize asteroids closest to the mothership would help the player feel more involved in the process. - For me, it seemed like missiles would just fire off in random directions sometimes? It didn't seem like the 90degrees issue you mentioned. - It would be good if you gave some indication of where my ultimate destination was. You can't zoom out that far and the scroll speed wasn't fast, so I spent a long time scrolling around looking for the enemy base. You'll probably lose a lot of people at that point. - I think it would help if there was some description of what my ship upgrades were going to do ahead of time. It would give me something concrete to look forward to, and would help trigger that "oh I just need a bit more to get this exciting thing" reaction in players that will keep them going.

Hemoglobin by rrsmtz 2023-05-03T18:47:34Z

This was a super fun game, I really enjoyed playing it. It did feel a little awkward at first that all the controls were on the keyboard except for attacking being a mouse click, but really engaging gameplay loop you've got going on here.

Popcorn Odyssey by 0X_VOID_X0 2023-05-05T02:10:14Z

That was a fun game! I felt especially rewarded for getting all the way to the end.

I did find some delicious cheese on level 7 that let me skip the whole top part of the level, which was nice because that 2nd to last jump is brutal.

Adding the reset button was a good idea, it really helped me keep going when I got stuck.

F. Ragile by Akromaly 2023-05-03T22:46:38Z

Hello fellow Godot user! That was really fun! It controlled well, and the primary game play loop was really fun. It was a little confusing at first how to get the packages into the delivery spots, I ended up just flying really low and firing them across it and that seemed to count.

A Blacksmith's Gift by Kassie Kitsune 2023-05-03T23:17:51Z

Hello fellow Godot dev! That was a pretty fun game play loop. I also really liked the sprite work! If I had one suggestion, the slap mechanic felt a bit un-intuitive. I would slap enemies pretty aggressively and sometimes they'd immediately yield their sword, and then sometimes they'd do it later when they were about to swing after having been slapped earlier. Super impressive doing this all by yourself! Good job!

🌴 Fantino Island 🌴People delivery service by Scratch 2023-05-04T00:12:27Z

I'm came over here since @scratch managed a perfect score on my game, and I'm glad I did. The art was really good, and I was really impressed by the music transitions in-between the areas! I did have to play it a second time to catch that cat, after I saw it flying through the air the first time. Good job! The only thing I have in way of improvements is maybe make the first day ending screen not go away automatically. I didn't realize I was on a time limit and missed some of the text the first time cause I was too busy admiring the details.

Pizza Delivery Flying Bot by Artemy Zen 2023-05-03T18:18:02Z

Really enjoyed the wonky flying (though I also made a game about wonky flying, so maybe I'm biased). One of the few on here I played a couple of times; I was able to get my time down to 4:39. Good job on this one!

Squid Belt by JustCore 2023-05-02T02:57:00Z

I liked the controls, they felt nice. I would put the starting station and client much closer, I didn't need that long to figure out how to move. The aliens were a little easy to fly past, so from a "I just want to complete the game" perspective they weren't very challenging, but stopping to fight a few was really fun. It might be good to incentivize the player to do that, because that part was pretty engaging.

Reincarnation Express by Xlores Liang 2023-05-03T02:13:25Z

That was an interesting story. I think you did a fine job conveying the actual story, I didn't find it too vague. One minor improvement: it would be nice if I could skip through the dialogue rather than having to wait for it to type out in its entirety, cause it's a little repetitive when you want to see the other endings.

E.G.A.D.S. by floralvikings 2023-05-02T21:12:44Z

@cheesepencil I'd love to, but unfortunately we have not figured out how to get Godot4's web builds to work on this site or itch.io. I'm all ears if anyone has any suggestions...

E.G.A.D.S. by floralvikings 2023-05-04T01:57:44Z

@xxstdyk Hey, I’m impressed you got through it with the troubles. I’ve seen it skip a level occasionally, but it’s always been in the middle for me. I’ll be in the lookout for the things you mentioned if we do another bug sweep. Thanks for the feedback! @floralvikings and I have been talking about working on this some more when we weren’t in “we’ve only got 72 hours, just throw stuff together” mode.

E.G.A.D.S. by floralvikings 2023-05-05T01:30:32Z

@paul-avallone @jaxah @xxstdyk I fixed the room skipping bug y'all pointed out tonight. For some reason it was detecting that the player hit the exit doorway immediately upon loading into the room, and triggered the timer to load the next one (which is delayed a second to allow any packages to hit the ground). Not sure why it happens only sometimes, but I figured out how to detect it happening and stop it.

Thanks for the feedback!

E.G.A.D.S. by floralvikings 2023-05-05T22:02:26Z

Hey @the-wondering-vagabond & @sebbot!

The resolution is fixed at 1920x1080, so I suspect you were running that at a resolution that was less than that, and that's the source of the problem? I was thinking about making the view-port scale-able, but that seemed arguably a feature update rather than a bug fix, so I didn't want to accidentally break the Jam rules. We've never Ludum Dared before so I haven't fully sussed out how far is acceptable.

Thanks for playing it, I'm glad you like the part you were able to see!

Irresponsible deliveries by Rezioz 2023-05-03T22:56:00Z

That was a pretty wild ride. The pedestrians really don't have any sense of self preservation, there was one point I stopped to let one by and they just turned and walked into me, but to be honest that added to the experience. If I could suggest one improvement, the turning radius on the truck was pretty wide, and I seemed to find myself frequently having to navigate really tight corners and running into buildings seemed to cause a lot of drag so I had a hard time getting past them.

Space Express LTD by JamesW 2023-05-02T01:47:48Z

Hey, I'd totally play your game, but I don't know where to find it...

Crazy Hearse by MatthewDrake 2023-05-02T18:28:13Z

The controls felt a bit off, but it was very fun. Maybe tone down the top speed, or make it accelerate a bit more slowly? It might have also been interesting if you could only turn while going forward/backwards, like in a real car. I really liked the dialogue.

LD54 — Limited Space

Meowspace by GameRaccoon 2023-10-03T02:17:43Z

The space on that spacebar certainly felt limited. That was fun! I liked how pressing space actually pressed it in the game too! I was a little confused on the hit boxes for the fingers not just straight on the middle.

The Not-So-Spacious Spaceship by LeBossMax2 2023-10-11T21:20:57Z

I was lured in by the title, and it was pretty absorbing once I got into it! I died a bunch at the beginning because I kept getting launched out of the airlocks, until I noticed the indicator. I then starved to death, because I couldn't find where the food went at first. Then I got into the groove and asteroids killed me. It seemed like I was supposed to go to the cockpit, but I didn't know what to do once I got there, cause I couldn't find anything to interact with. I thought the graphics were really good, especially for a gamejam!

Checkout Champion: Bagging Edition by No Grapes Games 2023-10-03T01:54:30Z

I enjoyed the set up and the art was good! I'm not sure I "got" it though? I ended up dropping stuff in there randomly and then I still won. It felt like I was supposed to be maneuvering the pieces in strategically.

The Confines by DestroyerTech 2023-10-11T19:33:03Z

That was pretty interesting, and well implemented. I might advertise it as a Visual Novel, so that people have a better expectation of what they're going to get, since I've come to realize a lot of getting good reviews is just meeting people's expectations when they come into the thing. I might have preferred if the maximum text speed was a tad faster, since you went through the effort of making it configurable.

Also, as someone whose also incredibly self conscious about art, I think you did a really good job. Even the screen shot from the beginning of the jam section looked good, because I could tell what I was looking at. I think, especially for game jams, as long as the art communicates what it is the player is looking at, then it is good enough.

Under Infiltrate by josep93 2023-10-03T02:08:32Z

That was an interesting platformer! The concept of moving through a different "plane" was neat. I found the sections where the breathable part was just as tall as you are were death traps, cause it was really hard to time the jump just right and not just plummet to your doom. It left me desiring a button that both jumped and tunneled at the same time. Like others said, giving the exits more contrast would have been nice, they were hard to see. It was definitely fun enough to get through to the end though!

SarSom by Vladimir ins 2023-10-11T20:49:01Z

That was a fun one! Good job! I got a time from the TV set in the first corridor and put it on that grandfather clock, but nothing seemed to happen. I was able to get through the whole rest of the game though, so I'm not sure what was up with that. Everything else I had to say I see already in the comments, so +1 on those.

Ascii commando by nullval 2023-10-11T02:11:53Z

Man, that just oozed aesthetic.

As an aside, I too couldn't figure out how to get my Godot game to run on ldjam player.

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-03T00:49:33Z

@strato The Snail Mail gives you points, and the other things help you fly more easily. I agree though, if we had more time, we would have definitely explored the level design more. Thanks for playing it!

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-04T02:22:32Z

@johnnysix Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, we were talking about messing around with how the physics worked more to find the optimal fun zone, but it's 72 hours doesn't last quite as long as one would think it does!

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-04T15:22:02Z

Thanks @verttixpertti & @nathmate! I was feeling less confident about this one, so I'm pleased to hear that y'all liked it!

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-04T15:25:38Z

@alpie Thanks! I'm glad you were able to figure out the configurable equipment. Finding the right balance of how much to explain can be difficult.

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-06T02:16:29Z

@fabula-rasa Ooo yeah, I might fear for your health if you do that. :grimacing: I may have went a little wild with the theme title drops…

I’m glad you liked it, thank you for the kind words!

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-06T02:22:06Z

@bluedandelion I feel like I might have seen an advertisement on Amazon about that when my kids were watching TV some time, but I also have no idea what the name is.

I’m glad to hear the art worked out for you! For these jams I kind of just have to run with my first idea cause I never leave myself any time to iterate on them.

S-Cargo by floralvikings 2023-10-06T02:22:49Z

@lizik-vin Ha yeah I did too! @floralvikings is a masterful sound engineer.

Tiny Rocket by jacobwinters 2023-10-03T02:27:52Z

I started out thinking I was not going to get through the whole thing, because it is very difficult, but then, next thing I knew, I was at the end. Fun times!

Clogged Tube by braktheman 2023-10-04T02:57:10Z

I found the controls awkward at first, but I got used to them surprisingly fast. It was a pretty fun game! I liked the voice-overs a lot. I did find though if you stand in the very corner next to the line of blue people, you can pretty much just hang out there without a problem. Unless that was intentional since standing in the corner like a creeper is a good way to avoid people on the subway in real life.

Dark Reflect_ions by Victor Musteata Potatka 2023-10-03T02:42:51Z

Congrats on completing your first game! I'd recommend updating the description with the controls, I almost gave up in the first room with the note until I randomly pressed ESC. Also, when I got the key and left the room, the screen just went black. I think that was the end, but I'm not sure.
