LD53 — Delivery

Carry This by MrTroy 2023-05-03T01:25:30Z

Great game with some very funny moments! I was a little confused at first; mostly about how to tell what was inside each box, until I tried interacting with it. Also maybe the character could have been a little faster, but other than that I really enjoyed it! Good job!

Golden Hour by Tyrannas 2023-05-03T19:37:49Z

Great and addicting game; I think I played about 6 runs. The movement felt fine and it was fun to aim the cannons whilst also avoiding the firing line of enemies. Also a really unique take on the theme, having to disrupt the deliveries rather than doing them yourself.

The boat did feel a little slow, even after getting a few speed upgrades. It didn't feel even remotely possible for me to reach the last two ships in time. Also, I was a little unclear on what the + symbols on the upgrades meant. I saw some upgrades with two + next to them, and others which were highlighted yellow?

Overall, I had a lot of fun playing and the selection of different upgrades available was really great! Also, on top of all of this I forgot to mention that the art looks amazing!

Deliverace by sbeif 2023-05-03T19:06:18Z

Very fun game and some really nice artwork too, I didn't get to try it in multiplayer but it was still fun solo! I know other people have mentioned it already, but I really think colouring just the obstacles differently would make them stand out more, and keep the rest of the game in the same aesthetic.

I really liked the control method of hammering a key to speed up, although after a while it got tiring. Maybe having two keys which you have to alternate would take less stress off of one finger; and also imitate the motion of pedalling a bike?

I would also say that the difficulty level was not bad, but having checkpoints might have been a good idea as I failed often. Although, I think that to include checkpoints the level might need to be longer. These kind of levels could probably easily be randomly generated though if they weren't already.

Another good addition, especially for multiplayer might be a kind of progress bar at the top. This would show how close you are to the finish, and also show you how close everyone else is. Giving each player a different colour would help if that wasn't already a feature.

Again great game and I hope you continue to work on it!

Abyssal Transit by nidjo123 2023-05-03T01:50:03Z

Doesn't seem to work for me:

The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing: Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers) SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)

Let me know if it's fixed!

Abyssal Transit by nidjo123 2023-05-03T01:58:44Z

Just downloaded the Windows version instead; what a great game! Really unique take on the theme and unique as a game in general. I don't think I've ever had to use morse code and it's surprisingly difficult even with the symbols there to see, but rewarding to get the hang of.

On top of all that, the story was a really great touch. It would have been easy to just throw out random words to transmit, but having a narrative to it all made me so much more invested.

Really great game; I don't even have anything to add to it!

Demon Lord's Catboy Pizza Delivery Service by Tyler Slabinski 2023-05-06T20:43:30Z

Nice game with fun movement; I was a little unclear on where to go at first until I noticed the red indicator moving around. Maybe a different icon such as an arrow would have been more intuitive. There could also be more variation in the level such as different obstacles; but for a game jam this works well and it was fun just to grapple around.

Beelivery by Jejkobb 2023-05-04T13:37:51Z

Really great game; my favourite so far I think. The controls were great and the physics of the honey worked really well. The variety of obstacles was also nice.

Maybe I would have liked a little control over the camera e.g. making it move faster if I go forwards, or slower if I go backwards. In general, I think it could even work better without a constantly moving camera; but I might be wrong about that.

Even outside of gameplay, the art looks great and the little animation at the start was amazing. The music was obviously fantastic too, especially the surprise at the end! Overall this was a great game and I really hope you keep working on it, I'd love to play more levels!

Lern Island Letters by Andori_Paic 2023-05-03T15:59:19Z

Really great game, I love the concept of being able to read the mail you're sorting, rather than it just being random filler text like a lot of other games! I think I got the good ending by sending the confidential letter to Bernard. The whole puzzle element of having to sometimes use your better judgement on where to deliver the letter based on what you've previously read was also great.

I think this concept could really work in a full game with a longer story, with more intertwining parts to think about and more mechanics. Although, it might be important for there to be a way to view previous letters/information again, like you can with the letters addressed to yourself.

There were also some really nice details considering it's a game jam project too, such as all the letters using different handwriting fonts, and being given back the letters that you delivered incorrectly.

It may have been nice for there to be more of a penalty for delivering mail to the wrong place, e.g. needing to restart that day. Because sometimes it was unclear to me if I made the right decision or not, apart from the final day where you get to see the consequences of where you sent the letter, which was a really cool.

Overall, this was really nice to play and I'd love to see a longer version; but I also think it feels perfectly complete already if you choose not to expand on it!

Winged Delivery by Ninnec 2023-05-03T14:45:47Z

Great unique game, I like this take on the theme and I definitely found it difficult when it sped up. On my first run, I actually didn't notice that the columns were cycling, I thought it was just randomised. Maybe an animation of it sliding up would have helped with that, but I also should probably have noticed.

A good addition could be a way to anticipate what the next round will be; maybe displaying it on the right side of the screen so you can prepare after locking in the current one. Although, I'm not sure how you would display what's coming when there are multiple columns.

RogueLike Delivers by Ausstein 2023-05-02T15:32:49Z

The idea of switching between carrying the cart and attacking was great, although it was maybe a bit hard to tell at what point the enemies would come and attack me. Still a great idea with many possibilities - maybe some enemies that target your cart and try to damage the cargo?

The variety of weapons was good and being able to see the difference in each stat from my current weapon in the shop was a great detail to include for a game jam. Once I had a lot of weapons it became a little hard to manage them; maybe a hotbar or some way to sell your old weapons would be good, unless there was a way and I missed it.

Also, the ranged weapons seemed a little hard to aim, or maybe it just wasn't clear when I was hitting an enemy with them? Some control over the camera might have helped, but overall you did a good job of framing everything from the right angle for a fixed camera.

Overall the game was great and replayable, especially with the stat increases from the books staying permanently.

De-Liver by AlexFSmirnov 2023-05-03T18:35:35Z

Great unique take on the theme, and the core mechanic was really fun to get the hang of. The outlines could have maybe been a bit higher resolution, because often I was hitting pixels that were barely even visible. It was nice though to earn more money for a perfect cut.

It was also funny when I got a reptile body, but a little annoying to instantly lose when I had a good run going. It could have been less harsh to just make that body worthless instead, or any type of penalty other than a game over.

Overall a great and fun game with a nice upgrade system!

Get To The Summit by Russ Moonbase 2023-05-03T01:42:45Z

Really great game, honestly one of the best I've seen so far; I think you really nailed the level design here. Starting out with some unexpected obstacles and uneven ground was good and this was as much as I expected. But then the giant boulders and robot smashing the bridge made such awesome and surprising sequences. Also, being able to see the top of the mountain, your ultimate goal, from the very beginning was a great touch.

The physics on the barrels also felt great, and I liked that you could choose to eject some of them when they were getting too close to exploding. Also, the few times that they did explode were funny as my car was flung across the map.

One thing I would suggest is to remove some of the arrows and such, and the sign saying "slow". I think it would have been a lot funnier if I'd gone full speed up that ramp and lost all of the barrels on my first attempt. The arrows did help to make the path clearer, although I think I still would have found the route and ultimately the level should guide the player through the right path on its own.

Also, the camera could have been a little higher up to give a better view of the barrels. I noticed that it started off in a perfect position, but as my car sped up the camera mostly just showed the back of the car. Maybe this was to help give a sense of speed, but it would still have been nice to see the barrels moving around.

Overall great job, I hope you keep working on it!

Stamp-ede! by Nachodlv 2023-05-02T16:30:07Z

Great game; the control scheme was a little hard to understand at first, although it was very fun and unique once I got the hang of it. It was sometimes difficult to know why some packages were losing me money, aside from the ones specifically marked using the sticky notes. I'm assuming some of them were meant to be fake?

Overall, the game was great, with good art and great use of audio, and a good take on the theme!

EmailMadness by HermanLejter 2023-05-06T20:31:00Z

Nice unique take on the theme, I never even considered an email game! The mood was also nice, I think the music and visuals fit the game well.

I think the icons for the inbox and outbox could have looked more different; it wasn't clear at a glance which one I was looking at. It also could have been nice to have some goal other than high score e.g. deliver all the mail, or making it a survival game with more spam over time rather than the timer just running out.

Overall great game and a unique gameplay loop!

Styx and Stones by Baconeta 2023-05-02T17:34:27Z

Great game; it's a unique take on the theme with good art to back it up, and the dialogue was impressive in both writing and implementation for a game jam project.

It took me a while to work out that I should use space bar to start moving, I'm not sure if this was explained anywhere. The gameplay could have been more varied, although already having a mixture of different obstacle types is good. Maybe it could start easy and get more difficult over time?

I liked that hitting obstacles took away some of your souls, and especially that if you weren't carrying any it took away from your total capacity; this made the journey back a lot more tense.

Overall, the game was a lot of fun and has a good level of polish already!

Stroke Stork by spyranteros 2023-05-03T18:03:30Z

Nice simple game and I like the idea of the baby taking control and piloting the stork! There was a good variety of obstacles in each stage, and they all made sense.

RocketBox! by Lascif 2023-05-02T17:44:22Z

Nice game, the controls felt good and the levels increased in difficulty nicely. The only thing I can suggest is maybe allowing for zooming out the camera a bit more; I found it hard to see what was coming!

Deliverables - LD53 by potkirland 2023-05-03T23:32:24Z

Nice simple game, and a unique take on the theme. It was unclear to me at first that I was moving on to new levels; I think because of having to press the play button every time.

Some different obstacle types would also be nice, maybe the other cars could be driving too, but at different speeds? I really liked having to respond to the dialogue whilst driving though, it was interesting to have to multi-task.

Watch The Hungrys by PartySquadMember 2023-05-03T15:25:37Z

Nice game with a unique take on the theme, it was maybe a little easy but of course it's always replayable to get a better time. Could be nice to add some more varied types of obstacles; maybe some people that walk back and forth across rather than just standing still?

The Ferryman by Lomby 2023-05-06T20:21:30Z

Great atmospheric game, the story elements were really interesting too. I played through twice; the first time I searched the body but then got the good ending on my second try.

Like you already said, it would be good to have a few more things to interact with and some backtracking; hopefully you keep working on it!

Commutator by Sodoj 2023-05-03T19:51:34Z

Wasn't able to properly play this in Windows 11; the canvas size didn't get changed and there was nothing being drawn. However, I was still able to play somewhat just by looking at where the mouse cursor was, which is a crazy thing to say. Great idea and as a big fan of Paint I just wish I could play it properly!

Diseased Dirigible by Falk Hoeppner 2023-05-03T14:28:51Z

Really great game, I love the characters and the music, and the feeling of rushing around and managing my crew was great. At first, I thought that the fires etc. happened a bit too often, until I realised that you can leave a crew member dealing with them whilst switching to the others!

Parcel Larceny by amarokczukay 2023-05-04T16:32:43Z

Really great and well-designed game, I also love the art style. Having to get the dog to chase me into the street and get run over was really funny and a great mixture of two existing mechanics.

Crash Courier by Ategon 2023-05-02T17:55:55Z

I'm really impressed by the level of polish on this game; animations, particles, audio, slow motion etc. are all things that are often missing from game jam projects. The game could have maybe started out a little easier; it took me a run to work out what to do, but maybe that's fine.

There were times where I was confused as to how I died, I think it was because of cars spawning right behind me. The headlights gave some indication of where cars would come from, but maybe there could be something to make it a little more obvious?

I also noticed that the enemies often just crashed by themselves; it's always funny to see that so I think you should keep it as a feature, but it would be better if it was a rarer occurrence.

Overall, a great game and I hope you keep working on it!

Stork inc. by quabmara 2023-05-02T16:46:35Z

Nice game, it was interesting to manage which stork to send where, knowing that they would be unavailable for other deliveries for a while. At times I did end up waiting quite a while for more deliveries to become available, and sometimes the delivery instructions just said "baby view 6" or "baby view 8"

Overall, a good and unique game, well done!

Ultimate Package by Triangle Point 2023-05-02T18:07:43Z

Funny and unique take on the theme, I love the idea of a world ruled by packages!

The enemies were maybe a little difficult to deal with as they could also jump. The final boss felt especially impossible to dodge, but the campfire being there made it also impossible to lose.

Everything else about the game was great though; the art looks good and fits the game, and the addition of dialogue is impressive for a 48 hour project!

C.R.A.B. signal by unkilledshadow135_Alex 2023-05-04T00:01:51Z

Great game, I didn't understand what to do at first, but after that the puzzles were really great and well-designed. The artwork and sounds were also great! Well done and I hope you keep adding more levels!

Ninjanitor by zbugba 2023-05-03T16:34:23Z

Great and unique game, I love the idea of having to go through and replenish a dungeon, whilst also having to avoid the usual traps and monsters. The movement penalty for carrying multiple chests at once was also a great touch.

I think there's a lot of potential to expand this in the future; maybe cleaning up the mess of previous adventurers such as corpses of monsters and missed arrows etc. It could also be interesting to reset and replenish the traps yourself, and then have to avoid them whilst walking back through them, rather than them just being always on.

GobEx by WeirdBitGames 2023-05-04T00:30:55Z

Great game and a good take on the theme, the art style and sounds are amazing! The game was a lot more fun once I got the hang of using the number keys; the menu was a little annoying to use as I kept picking up things that were behind it. Also, if there's an unwrapped present behind the menu, anything you select immediately goes into it. Overall, the game was really fun and I hope you keep working on it!

GobEx by WeirdBitGames 2023-05-04T17:20:22Z

@weirdbitgames I found that the unopened packages don't seem to do anything when they land on the goblin's head. I just ended up with a huge pile and opened and repackaged them one at a time.

GobEx by WeirdBitGames 2023-05-04T17:52:41Z

@weirdbitgames Yeah I'm not sure, at the start of the game I can definitely reduce his happiness by dropping packages on him, but after a while he gets very surrounded by them and nothing boops him.

Space Express LTD by JamesW 2023-05-03T16:19:27Z

Nice game with a cool atmosphere and a good amount to consider with strategy. It was unclear to me how some of the stats impacted anything; I'm assuming they just triggered random events which never happened for me. For that matter, none of my employees ever died, but I'm assuming it's possible.

There was a couple of points where I was given a penalty for the customers not being able to understand my employees; I'm guessing that's a combination of language stat and species? But I was sending them based on "preferred species" rather than "customer species", so I'm not sure if that was the wrong thing for me to prioritise?

Overall, great game and I hope you keep working on it; there's a lot of potential for ways you could allow the player to expand their delivery service. Maybe discovering new planets through sending people to scout, rather than just being able to see them all from the start?

Cyndermine Mail Delivery Service by simmo 2023-05-02T16:15:22Z

Great game and very ambitious for a game jam, especially if you made all the music in this time too, and including a custom chart creator is very impressive. I liked how there seemed to be a narrative between the levels; the van going into space was a great surprise along with the change in perspective.

I did find the game quite hard, especially in the later levels, and generally it was hard to tell whether I had successfully hit a note or not. I also got a score of -1 a few times, which I'm guessing is a bug?

Overall, I would say it just needs polish like you said, but in terms of the technical implementation, this is very impressive for 48 hours; I haven't even dared to attempt making a rhythm game outside of a game jam!

Congo Premiere by Slightly Ajar 2023-05-03T13:57:18Z

Great and simple game with a nice level of polish for a game jam, the animation for the packages dropping down was a very nice touch.

The controls felt nice and gave about the right level of difficulty, although with it being a drone I would imagine it being able to also move left and right without turning?

One suggestion could be to award bonus time for hitting closer to the centre of the targets, e.g. +5 seconds for hitting the bullseye. This would make you have to think about whether to slow down and aim or just rush to the next target.

Overall a great game, well done!

Delivery! NYC by Obe Dot 2023-05-03T23:44:39Z

Initially didn't realise about the grappling hook, and for those few tries I've never been so afraid of trains in my life! I had a lot of fun with it once I did though, although maybe the grappling makes you move a bit too fast; I got flung into outer space a few times! Overall a nice game and a cool take on the theme!

Dungeons & Deliveries by sorreveloper 2023-05-03T16:59:17Z

Fun game and a very unique idea, I loved the possibility of having negative damage that heals your enemies, and I got really unlucky with that after taking the skill sword on my first run!

I would love to see your stats continue into each next level, as well as some new layouts; to me it felt like I was replaying the same level each time?

Overall, great game and I'd love to see it expanded upon because the gameplay feels quite unique.

Slow News Day by JosephGallear 2023-05-02T16:52:54Z

Thanks everyone for the comments!

@sass Haha, I made extra sure to include New Zealand! I even ended up making it way bigger than it probably is! I'll be sure to add an instructions screen; this should help with knowing what the bar is for, as @slightly-ajar said.

@ategon That's a great idea to add audience noises, I think it would go a long way to make it more clear how your response was taken!

@eric-nguyen A hard mode is a good idea! I might add a timer in general, as it makes sense that you shouldn't be able to leave a big gap between responses.

Slow News Day by JosephGallear 2023-05-03T22:59:41Z

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

@russ-moonbase Yeah I'll definitely add some sound effects or other feedback to tell you when you gave a correct/incorrect response!

@sbeif Yeah as I was making this I kept thinking that it felt similar to some Jackbox games, I think a multiplayer mode would work well if I decide to take the project in that direction!

@gametrodon Yeah, initially I just planned the inverse mode which would require you to give bad answers, but now I'm thinking I might switch the normal mode around to be that way as it's a lot funnier; I'm still undecided!

That's also true, when you start running out of different card types it's easy to lose more than one life. Although, ultimately the next story is always randomly selected; that may be the wrong way to go about it though and I definitely want to balance the game a bit better.

In terms of the news stories, they do start off more mundane, but then progress to some ridiculous stories in the final round. The middle round is 50/50 of normal and ridiculous, so maybe I could tweak that to make it get more exciting faster.

@patatenouille That's a great idea about your responses having actual consequences, it's something I didn't consider! It would be great if the stories in the next day somehow reference a comment you made the day before.

Piecing together multiple parts of a story is another great idea, and I think that could give the player a lot more to think about. Having the player not know what they're responding to would also be hilarious, I'll think about where I can fit that in!

Also yeah, like I said to gametrodon above, I think I'll make the stories get more ridiculous earlier on; my intention was for it to start off normal and get weirder over time. I'll still keep it that way, it just needs to happen faster.

DroneDash by Jason Kuo 2023-05-02T16:02:10Z

Great game, I really liked the way the drone controls and I think that's what made the game so fun. It felt difficult at first but rewarding to get the hang of it. I also really liked the idea of upgrading your drone to make it easier to control.

Navigating the shop with your drone was also a nice unique idea, although at times it was frustrating, such as when I spawned right next to the confirm button and wasn't able to buy anything that round.

Also, I'm assuming that all of the tier 5 upgrades had a larger impact on the movement than the lower ones. If this is the case, I think you should have to start at tier 1 from all the upgrades, and work upwards. Because I immediately bought tier 5 of most things and the drone felt a lot easier to control after only a couple of rounds.

Overall, the game was very fun and I think there's a lot of ways you could expand on it in the future. I would love to see some more obstacle types; maybe moving obstacles such as birds to get in your way. More food spawning at one time could also be good, so that you'd have to think more about your route.

Deadmail by vaps1k 2023-05-03T18:09:07Z

Cool game with a nice art style. The enemies felt a little fast, and the distances to travel were quite long; some shortcuts could have been nice.

Mail! by EthernalStudio 2023-05-02T18:36:32Z

Very difficult, but a fun game and rewarding once you manage to get the hang of it. Some ability to rotate the camera would be nice, and might make it easier to aim the letter
