Can't believe no one has rated this game yet, a good metro-like game, surprised to see this type of quality in just 3 days!! Good graphics, nice sounds, good music. 10/10 with the MGS reference, a nice experience!

AMAZING!! This is a great artstyle and the gameplay is cool!!! I like the cover mechanic, though the game gets extremely easy to the point of making it a bit redundant after you get the shotgun. The shooting enemies could telegraphs their attack to make the cover mechanic more interesting as well. But otherwise this is awesome!!

It's a tradition for an Arcane Rituals game to be stylish, but y'all really nailed it on the aesthetic this time! Really a delight to see in motion. I especially love the way the tie moves, but all of the visual choices were great and the feeling of the guns was really solid. I didn't end up feeling like I needed to use the cover mechanic at all, since I could just shoot the enemies before they shot at me. Bonus points for the snake eater joke!

@brineleaves @thristhart On my HDD I have a version of the game where the reaction time on the gun wielding enemies is reduced by 80%. It makes the game *far* more challenging. We wanted to implement difficulty levels, but we ran out of time :(

Cheers for playing guys!

Wow! That pixel art is amazing! I wish I could draw as well as that. Keep it up! :D

Nice artwork!

daniil-vakhrushev 2023-05-03 12:27

Nice artstyle!

Man, what a sexy game! Looks and feels great and feels very much like a cohesive experience. I love the character art with their weird abstract heads. Agree with the others about it being quite easy once you get the hang of the gunplay but I was still having fun by the end. The only other thing is the platforming feels a little imprecise but not so much so to ruin the experience. Nice one!

This has a really cohesive art and style. The gameplay is cool. I would change the keybinding of crouch to something else as "W" was kind of confusing. Fun dialogue :)

Awesome game. Tough but fair. Glad the checkpoints existed. Although I didn't finish it - got soft locked by dying in the executive suite and respawning with no ammo and enemies right on top of me. I tried to take the elevator back down but then it glitched out and I fell through the floor. Still was very enjoyable.

TeddyReid and HexyVexy thank you for sharing your game! It was exciting to play and I even got to the end. I hope you will listen to a few pros and cons I had about the game

Pros

Good combat feel and flow

Nice environments

Cons

Some drawn out areas near the end having to run up and down hallways

I feel this game excels in Fun and Audio! Good luck and Have a great Ludum Dare.

Really nice game! The presentation is very well done. The graphics are appealing and the character designs are unique. The music is great and fits the tone of the game well. I don't think I fully understood the story but it still gave the game a cool vibe. It feels very polished overall for a game made for in such a short time.

The combat is a bit simple though. A lot of the time you can slowly walk forward with your gun out and shoot enemies as they appear on the screen with little danger. My favourite bit was the shaft area with the ladder because the verticality made for more interesting combat scenarios. Regardless, the guns are still fun to use even in the simple scenarios. I especially liked being able to take out multiple enemies with one shotgun blast.

Thanks for the feedback folks, yeah we had a variable that directly affected the difficulty (enemy reaction times/fire rate) and definitely tuned it too low.

That was uhhhh, really amazing! Graphics are absolutely gorgeous, took a second to admire the background before I talked to the Director. Gameplay was nice and satisfying, especially the shotgun (I just kept using it even after getting the machine gun.) Audio was great too, the elevator music was a nice touch and I appreciate being able to move around in the elevator during those little sections. Loved the reference when climbing the elevator shaft too, had me laughing. Amazing work getting it this polished for a jam game, played real good!

This put a smile on my face. The graphics, the sounds THE STYLE! It's so cool  You really managed to make the player feel like an absolute badass. It reminds me a bit of Snes "beat em ups" like streets of rage, but now more guns!

Oh and the elevator ride was to die for. :trophy:

After playing it through once and reading the (very funny) story, I decided to speedrun it: 5f84d3330637af643287f9c8a8f9e075.png

This game had some STYLE. The graphics were really nice, paired with the lighting it worked really well. On top of that the sound effects felt really punchy, nice work. The gunplay with the cover was a lot of fun, but often I will be honest I just stuck with the pistol and spammed click until I was at the end. Similarly the levels tended to be a bit corridor-ey, I would have loved some more dynamic areas to play around in! Overall though this was a pretty fun game with a humour that definitely worked without being too over the top. Nice work!

Also that ladder had me in stitches

this was a fun experience! I really love the charming art style and music, that intro is worth a high humor score on its own lol, and don't you think I didn't notice that attention to detail where the game exe has the logo of the game, I know that Godot doesn't do that on its own. I had a lot of fun blasting the poor things into dust like a maniac especially in that level where you get attacked by so many knife wielding crazies "good grief" indeed! unfortunately I fell of the world at some point and kept falling forever, which was partially my fault because I was pressing move key randomly to checkout the animations but I wish there were tiles blocking me from falling. but other than that I think this game is really well made and don't you worry I never skip any dialogue in a video game ever! bonus points for using Godot! awesome work

teddyreid 2023-05-09 21:48

@0x-void-x0 Thanks for playing, and for appreciating our eccentricity! Can you remember where you were when you fell through the level? There should be collision on the floor and wall tiles stopping it, but someone above reported a similar issue - I've been trying to find it for ages but I can't seem to do it!

0x-void-x0 2023-05-09 21:56

@teddyreid yes, don't worry it's not that big of a deal, I picked the game again since I wasn't that far off, but you know the "good grief part"? it's somewhere after that I think, once you enter a room where you have to go right, the room is dark and if you go left instead you fall off the floor, that's what I can remember.. it's after you use the crowbar and play for a minute or two. sorry not very helpful but I can try to play again and hunt for it..

Thanks for helping us find it!

0x-void-x0 2023-05-09 22:14

@teddyreid lol that text is fitting, I'm glad I could help! and I hope this little bug doesn't discourage you your game is great, I mean it!

Love the art of this game, the player's run cycle in particular is so expressive! I enjoyed the combat for the most part, but occasionally found it frustrating that the enemies didn't have a clear behaviour. Sometimes they were brutally easy to kill, and sometimes they unexpectedly sniped you with little chance to dodge. I wonder if simply having visibility indicators (like an exclamation mark over their head when they see you) could help. Here's a link to the stream vod if you'd like to rewatch;
