Hey guys! I tried your game.

I think you might need to try playtesting it because I think the game is currently broken. I can't shoot and I just die straight away. Also whenever I click, a giant white box appears over my ship (probably an issue with transparency in your image), so I have no idea what's happening.

The music is cool, I think it should be on by default (although it might be copyright because it's based on the Disney 'It's a Small World' song). Also, I think the firework sounds are a bit too loud and annoying on repeat on the mainscreen - maybe make them softer?

If you fix up the bugs let me know and I'll try again!

Feel free to try my game too if you get the time: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/no-minor-task-party-of-a-lifetime

@Xavier_Indie_Gamedev It's strange I'm getting reports of a lot of bugs including the ones you mentioned, but game works fine with my system. Not sure what's up with the white box glitch, the asset was designed the same way and made into the same file type as everything else... :(

I am sorry but I couldn't play it. I die pretty much at the start without knowing why. And shooting doesn't seem to work too.

gameattack 2017-05-06 13:54

Sorry. nothing seems to work...

pragmascript 2017-05-06 15:07

When I try to shoot all I see is a yellow glow. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

alex-hart 2017-05-06 20:43

Yeah i start out with the boat, but then suddenly die. Something is definitely broken.

veralos 2017-05-07 05:10

I'm having similar issues to everyone else. I can't see the enemies shooting at me and pressing the shoot button just creates a yellow glow the first time I press it, which then becomes a yellow glow with a white square behind it when I try to shoot again. It also seems like the health isn't reset properly when you restart since you die almost immediately after restarting.

Despite those issues, the menu looks really nice, and the in-game graphics are pretty decent too. The music and sound effects are also good, though I'm not sure why they seem to be off by default. It's a shame about the bugs that make the game unplayable.

nice game!. i like the music and the sound effect very much!, the coin grab mechanics is clever and has good feedback! The special attack was good too , with the actual fire rate was a little difficult to aim because you can only shoot on and straight line on the sides of the ship and is impossibloe to determine when the robot will pass because the didnt follow a linear speed.Great work adding Leaderboards! was a great way to add it replayability and some healthy rivalry

Thanks Rixud! I'm glad to see at least one person is getting the game to work... I republished the game with an updated engine, can people let me know if the game is or isn't working? And if you're running Mac or Windows? I wouldn't think that makes a difference but it seems to be working fine universally on mac OS..

reactor-scram 2017-05-07 16:15

You asked for criticism, so I'll tell you: I didn't play the game because I don't like Flash and don't have it installed. Sorry. I didn't rate it either.

Hey!

I had the same bugs commented before, but I know how to "fix" it temporarily:

I just clicked on "Clear Data" and "Confirm" and tried again, and now I can play!!

Maybe is hard to see the theme here, but I like the 'feedback' when hit an enemy and when I use the 'space' skill.

Good job!

dalbinblue 2017-05-07 20:40

Okay, so I initially had the same glitch issues as others. Going through the clear data option does fix the issues people have stated. My guess is that you have something uninitialized by default that is good on your system because of persistent data. As a simple fix for the purposes of the game jam you can just run the clear data route in start so that others can play (you can fix this now as game breaking bugs can be fixed after the 48 hours).

In addition here is some constructive criticism: - It wasn't initially obvious that robots reaching the other side of the screen kill you. An extra line in the help screen. Likewise it wasn't obvious what finished a level. Have a countdown on the level or again information in help would have reduced the confusion. - The Polynesian (?) robots introduced in level 4 can be impossible to hit. At times they can start running at the bottom side of the screen and the time it takes to turn and shoot them is too slow until you are completely powered up. At level 4 that felt a little unfair.

I kept getting constant Game Overs. Hmmm. Lemme know if you get that fixed and I'll totally try it out again!

mr-mcgibblets 2017-05-08 01:14

No matter what I try I only die.

sparrow 2017-05-13 18:01

After clearing data I got the game to play properly, I had a good time playing. I like the graphics and the sound, the music fits the game well. I like your progression system and the upgrades felt powerful or handy. It's hard to aim at the robots because of the way they walk. Closing the leaderboards turns of the music because of the placement of the buttons.

calzep 2017-05-14 08:36

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO PLAY THIS. SOUNDS GOOD IN THE TITLE SCREEN THOUGH

drkr 2017-05-14 12:58

For everyone who can't play, select 'Clear Data' and it should work.

Now for feedback: The animations and sound effects make the game feel really responsive but the gameplay feels a bit lacking. The bullets feels too slow and inconsistent. Nice entry though, keep up the good work!

megabrutal 2017-05-16 18:25

– I often get a „Game over” screen while I'm not sure what are the lose conditions (therefore I'm not sure what to do to avoid them). There was an occasion when I got an insta-game-over whenever I restarted, however I guess that was a bug, „Clear Data” helped it.

– The bullets are very slow, thus it is very hard to aim.

– The controls are inconsistent and confusing: I have to aim with keyboard, shoot with mouse click, then collect the coins with the mouse cursor. Too many controls to keep in mind. Full mouse control would have been better.

– If I turn off the sound on the title screen, I still hear the fireworks.

– I couldn't get through even the first level. Because of this, I couldn't experience many of the announced cool features of the game, like upgrades, auto-fire and laser sight – I see them in the „How to Play”, but I never got a chance to unlock and try them.

– It is very subjective, but I don't really see the theme worked into the game.

– I like the graphics (especially the robots, assuming it is your work), and I also think the audio is pretty decent (assuming it is your work).

Keep it up, make more games, practice, stay determined! You will get better. :)

Once I figured out what I needed to do, it was pretty fun. I didn't enjoy how the movement of the enemies was a bit unpredictable, making it difficult for me to aim them at the first levels, though that improved later with the increased bullet speed. In general, good job :) If you have time, have a look at my game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/atomic-clicker
